Rebuild a masters db without reinitializing ?

Hi,
I need to rebuild the databases of one master in an ids5 multimaster environment without the need to (re)initalize the replication, because it would take to long (> 3days). Which other options I have ? Any ideas ?
Many thanks in advance...

Why do you need to rebuild the DB ?
Do you mean the indexes or the whole data ?
If the other master is OK, you can export the data to ldif using db2ldif -r and then import the result into the Master (using ldif2db). You will not need to re-initialize the replication (if all consumers are up to date).

I rebuild a photo library without a backup .. it shows
"The photo library needs to be upgraded to works with this version of photo library
Quit or Upgraded .. i exit the app .. and then i looked up in my application then i have few folders
Metadata backup . what it's ? All my pictures in it , is there anything i can do be4 i click on the upgrade version?
I dont want to lose my photos.. If i upgraded it will my pictures stil be there?

Make a temporary, backup copy (if you don't already have a backup copy) of the library and try the following:
1 - delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your
         User/Home()/Library/ Preferences folder.
2 - delete iPhoto's cache file, Cache.db, that is located in your
         User/Home()/Library/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto folder.
3 - launch iPhoto and try again.
NOTE: If you're moved your library from its default location in your Home/Pictures folder you will have to point iPhoto to its new location when you next open iPhoto by holding down the Option key when launching iPhoto.  You'll also have to reset the iPhoto's various preferences.

  • Rebuild Library from Scratch without losing what I bought

How can I rebuild my library from scratch without losing what I have already bought? I recently upgraded my system drive to a 1TB drive and all the drive letters changed. I had moved my library off of the system drive and I do not remember what the drive letter was. I have all the files just want to rebuild and resysnc. I have XP Pro and a lot of files prior to Itunes opening up to all mp3 devices.

    Welcome to AD!
If you have an older iTunesLibrary.XML file, you can open it using WordPad. It might refresh your memory on what drive letter was being used.

  • Rebuild Faces recognition database without losing Face associations

Does anybody know a safe way to rebuild a Faces recognition database without:
    1) disturbing already associated faces / pictures
    2) finding new faces
I've already done a huge amount of manual editing and auto-recognition on my 40K photo database and have culled many of the "don't care" faces and hand-identified literally thousands of faces taht reconitions didn't identify.  Unfortunately the recognition database appears to be corrupted, manifiesting itself in two ways:
    1) Count of suggested recognized faces doesn't match the number iPhoto claims to be there, plus several of the "suggestions" shown have already been previously Confirmed.
    2) Crashes that seem to be related to memory leaks - iPhoto use of memory piles up until it rolls over 1.7G on a machine with 4GB RAM, and now over 3.8GB on a machine with 8GB RAM, then crashes.
I'm hoping there is a way to rebuild recognition database based on tens of thousands meticulously identified, and seemingly accurate (no corruption), face associations.  Thoughts ?

    Thanks Terence,
Was hoping for some miracle, but your thoughts make sense.  I'm actually pursuing a 3-fold recovery strategy and will document what works best.
    1) Keep going with the current database despite issues. So far, recognition database corruption seems limited to particular faces that have huge numbers of the same person (3-7K), not smaller lists. And I don't appear to be getting cross corruption where I label a person, then they come back with a different name. Only the suggestion lists appear to have problems, and again, only for a few select people. I also upgraded to 8G of memory (vs. 4G) which seems to give me more running room to avoid/postpone crashes from memory leaks.  iPhoto databases is still incredibly valuable given all the hand work.  When it comes time to add faces I can still get recognition to work more quickly and without weirdness via two methods:
    * Start a new Faces entry, with a slightly different name, for a person in one of the "oversized/corrupted" Face entries. Gather up enough faces manually to support reconition, then run recognition for the new entry.  Once you have collected/gleened as many faces as one can, merge the entry into the existing, ovesized Face entry.
    * and bring any new photos/events in via iPhoto Manager from a clean iPhoto database (see next).  Faces come over from the clean database.
    2) Develop a new recognition database.  I have two physically different iPhoto databases (both Time Machined) that I keep on separate drives. I keep them synced via iPhoto Manager. I recently removed all the "faces" database files from the "shadow iPhoto database" and have begun rebuilding.  I now use that as my master for adding/importing new photos and runnign Faces (though Photostream makes that a little trickier).  When new events are the way I like, I copy over to the old "corrupt" database using iPhoto manager.  Working nicely, but I'm now begining to realize the scope of the naming I did in the "corrupt" database - hundreds of hours to get back to where I am with corrupt database.
    3) I'm also trying Picasa recognition on an "in-place" iPhoto database.  Of course, there is no way to transfer back to iPhoto, but a fun experiment in recognition nonetheless. Picasa's recognition is similar in concept but works substantially differently than iPhoto.  A few things I've noticed:
    - Picasa does a kind of clustering of very simialr faces that makes it very fast in some recognition steps.  instead of labeling one photo, you label clusters.
    - Picasa operates regularly on the whole list of unknown photos, instead of focusing in on recognizing just one person at a time, so one can very quickly wade through confirmation of many people.
    - Picasa seems less sensitive to one or two "wrong" persons in a long list of recognized faces vs. iPhoto. Even one wrong photo amonst hundreds appears to steer the iPhoto reconition to pick up many of the wrong person for the suggestion list, while Picasa appears more immune (I would love a utility to weed out a few offending, wrong faces in an already recognized database).
    - At the same time, iPhoto appears to go to greater depth in finding all images of a select person when it concentrates on that person.
    - Ultimately, both recognizers seem to suffer from "fatigue" and randomness - they get to a poitn where they can recognize now more, until some new random event comes along that frees up or catalyzes additional recognition.

  • NB505-508BL Rebuilding replaced hard disk without recovery media

    Hi All,
I'm hoping for some help.  My brother has an NB505-508BL mini netbook.  It doesn't have a DVD drive, and so when he got the laptop, he decided he couldn't make the recovery media.
Last week his hard disk completely died, so I ordered him a new one.  I've just installed it and asked him for the recovery disk / image / media, which he hasn't got.
So I've been checking these forums and I can't believe what I am reading: Toshiba don't supply a link to a downloaded image for recover for software that the customers already own, but will charge an outrageous $30 to send out an image by post.
The main problem I have is that I like in the UK, so Toshiba wont send me the recovery disk or USB. So I pretty much screwed unless someone else can help me out with any of the following:
Is it possible to download windows 7 starter from Microsoft (or anywhere, legitimately) and install it onto the laptop, at least to get it going?
If I got windows going and downloaded all the Toshiba drivers from the website, would I be able to create the recovery media and re-image the hard disk to have the hidden partition with all the recovery data on it?
I'm desperate to get this going for my brother - especially as he spent a lot of money on the computer, and then I spent a lot of money replacing the hard disk!
Many thanks for any help -

Probably your best bet is to have an acquaintance in the US or Canada request the recovery thumb drive and mail it to you.
       Order Toshiba Recovery Media
That's cheaper than purchasing a retail version of Windows and certainly much less trouble than installing all of the drivers and utilities (which are here).
Until recently it was possible to download Windows 7 for Netbooks from Microsoft. But that has for some reason been withdrawn.
You can still download Windows 7 from here. You'd want the x86 English version. That DVD contains all 32-bit Editions.
You can convert the DVD to a bootable flash drive.
Use a USB Key to Install Windows 7—Even on a Netbook
Note that Microsoft does not actually sell Windows. It sells product keys. Which edition you choose to install determines the price of the product key.
I'd guess you have a fighting chance of convincing the Microsoft activation people that Windows 7 Starter edition has already been paid for. If you're successful, they will issue a free product key for that edition (only).
This Microsoft toll-free phone number in the UK is for volume licensing, but maybe they will give you the number of the local Microsoft people for more info.

  • Mail won't run - can I rebuild without running Mail?

I was installing the latest update to Mail Tags in Mail and it crashed in the process of the update. Now mail won't run - it just hangs. I reinstalled Mail and it's still doing the same thing so it must be the mail data file (right?). Can I rebuild the data file without running mail? What to do?

Ok, I should have tried the easy solutions first. I deleted the preferences com.apple.mail.plist in my user's Library folder and that solved the problem. Of course your Library folder is hidden in Lion so you must reveal the folder first which can be done like this: hit command+shift+G from the finder and type ~/library/ You will ge temporary access to the Library folder.
    Problem solved for me.

  • Build Plugin without Exiting After Effects

Hi, I'm working in Visual C++ 2010 Express. I would like to be able to rebuild my plug-in without having to restart AE CS5. In the SDK Documentaion it mentions that you can do this by purging, however I have not been able to get anything to work. I have deleteed the effect and layer before purging and started a new project. Once the effect is applied, no matter what I do I am not able to replace the file, even through the windows explorer.
There was another discussion here that talked about being able to do it while debuging by pausing the debugger and then changeing the code, but I don't think that the Express version is able to do that.
    Am I missing something?

hi jesse, long time no see.
    in this thread:
    http://forums.adobe.com/message/3117259#3117259
it seems "edit and continue" is just not supported for 64bit in vs2010.
i googled that to see if it's still true.
most of the links just noted the problem, but the following link:
    http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2795795/cant-edit-and-continue-when-using-visual-studio -2010-on-a-64-bit-machine-app-t
    just might have a solution.
    i hope this helps.
i'm still using vc2008 so... ha ha!

  • How to do enhancements without allowing any downtime on user transactions

Hi i would like to know if there is any way to do enhancements and rebuild of setup tables without any user posting block.

    Hi,
If you have an overwrite ODS at the 1st level, then you can do enhancements and rebuild of setup tables without any user posting block.
    This is how its done.
    1) Do an init without data transfer. (A delta pointer would be set)
    2) fill in the setup tables.
    3) extract the data using a Full load and not Init with data transfer.
    4)  Execute the delta load.
There are chances that the same data would come in the setuptable and the delta queue, which is fine as the over write ODS will take care of the duplicate records. But in this way you wont miss any delta records.
    Hope this helps.
    Regards,
    Mahesh.

I have also tried to delete Envelope index file from the Mail folder in usr/library and forced mail to import all mailboxes but it started to crash importing some of mailboxes - I deleted the messages from that mailboxes, imported remaining mailboxes and tried to rebuild mailbox, but everything without a successes. Any ideas how to solve it?

  • This is making my head spin...  Please help!

I've been an Apple convert for a little over a year now and I love the devices and the simplicity of the apps...  Until now.  It seems that some things just aren't a intuitive as they appear.  I was unable to find an answer to my multi-pointed question.
I'm using an Intel iMac i3 processor (mid 2011) with a 1 TB drive and iPhoto 11.  Prior to this fiasco I had probably about 20,000-23,000 (about 150 GB?) pics imported into iPhoto.  Things were going great.
Some background...  Skip to the break for the actual questions if you're not into reading my sob story.
I am pretty paranoid about losing data, although I have never had a catastrophic data loss yet from keeping multiple backups everywhere when I was using PCs.  I could have stuff on my PC at work, on a Windows-based laptop, at home, on another computer, etc.  Pretty easy but not very integrated.  I have been slow to adopt this strategy to Mac because, frankly, it's sort of expensive to do things like this.  Time Capsules and all the various external hard drives for backup are pretty pricey and reliability appears to sometimes be an issue, so I've been carefully resarching things for a little over 6 months now.
My Mac's power supply blew out a few weeks ago and that scared me into action.  I settled on Dolly Drive, a cloud based backup service that has Time Machine capabilities.  From the reviews I read online it seemed to be an excellent solution.  I was going to eventually supplement this with a physical backup/time machine solution, but Dolly Drive seemed to be suitable as a starting point.
I decided that before I backup iPhoto, I should send the Masters folder to Dolly Drive Sync so that I can also download it onto my Macbook.  This is in keeping with my paranoia and desire to keep multiple physical copies of stuff.  I opened the Dolly Drive Sync folder and the iPhoto Library folder and copied the folder into Dolly Drive Sync.  Never having looked into the Masters folder I decided to open it up just to see how the Mac indexes everything, and man, it was way more complicated and impractical for keeping across several machines than I had thought.  I decided to interrupt the transfer by dragging the Dolly Drive Sync folder copy of Masters to the Trash bin and, as is my usual practice, I emptied it right after.
My hard drive started spinning like crazy.  I knew right away that my originals were being deleted off the hard drive.  I really have NO idea why that happened.  It should be pretty intuitive that only the copy of Masters should be deleted and not the original Masters which remained in the iPhoto Library.
So there's my problem.  I've lost about 23,000 pictures and short video clips, mostly family stuff and my young daughter.
Right away I began running File Salvage from SubRosaSoft.  It's been running for about a day now and it's been retrieving some of the photos onto my Macbook, which has been mounted as a network drive.  It's still in process and I anticipate that this will go on for a few more days.  Luckily I looked across a couple of my Apple devices and between my wife's iPad, my iPad, and our iPhones, I was able to retrieve 19,000 photos onto my Macbook (while File Savage is still spinning in the background).  There's still some missing and the ones missing aren't super important.  File Salvage retrieves the original file but not the original file name or folder directory structure, so that presents a problem for iPhoto's indexing.  Similarly the photos I'm retrieving from the iOS devices are being given sequential generic IMG_XXXX filenames which also isn't consistent with the iPhoto database, so that won't be very useful in fixing iPhoto either (at least I don't think).
    So here are my questions...
    1) In comparing some of the retrieved photos from File Salvage and the ones I lifted off the iOS devices, the iOS versions are about half the size (3MB vs. 6MB for most pictures) and the resolution is slightly less (5000 x 4000 for the originals and 4800 x 3900 for the iOS).  I'm not planning to edit these or spruce them up to be frank, so would you just call it a day and forget about wading through the thousands of File Salvage photos to pick out and put them into the appropriate folders?  Is there something about the iOS versions that a regular guy will miss and can only be found on the originals?  I'd still need to complete File Salvage to retrieve the missing videos...
    2) How do I go about re-indexing the iPhoto Library?  When I open iPhoto all the thumbnails are there but when I try to see the picture there's a big excalamation point that tells me the file is missing.  Do I need to delete the entire iPhoto Library (how do I do that?) and create a new one using the stuff I got off the iOS devices?  Is there a way to associate the current thumbnails in iPhoto with the files that I've retrieved but whose names are different and the Masters folder structure is gone?
    3) Any way to rebuild the masters from the thumbnails or from the iPod photo cache?  Aren't the iOS pictures I'm transferring now just a version of the iPod photo cache folder?
    4) What do I do about syncing through iTunes?  As far as I can tell the photo sync tab uses the iPhoto albums and events.  I'm newish to Mac, so I'm worried about starting up iTunes and having it destory all my iOS devices by wiping them clean through its auto-sync.
My apologies for the long post.  It's kind of a complicated problem and I don't know anyone who knows how any of this stuff really works.  I sure have learned a heck of a lot about Mac in the last few days though!
    Thanks to all in advance.

My guess is that it all went wrong here:
I opened the Dolly Drive Sync folder and the iPhoto Library folder and copied the folder into Dolly Drive Sync.
My guess is that you didn't copy but moved. It's the only thing that makes sense.
In comparing some of the retrieved photos from File Salvage and the ones I lifted off the iOS devices, the iOS versions are about half the size (3MB vs. 6MB for most pictures) and the resolution is slightly less (5000 x 4000 for the originals and 4800 x 3900 for the iOS).
Sounds like you're gettting previews rather than the originals.
I'm not planning to edit these or spruce them up to be frank, so would you just call it a day and forget about wading through the thousands of File Salvage photos to pick out and put them into the appropriate folders?
I'm afraid only you can answer that. How important is that information to you? Me? I would, but I'm like that... On the other hand, once they're back in iPhoto you can do there, you don't have to do it first.
That library is toast. Forget about it. To fix it you'd need to rename each file exactly right and put in a folder named exactly right (for the date and time of import)... you're in a 'start over situation'...
To delete a Library: Go to your Pictures Folder and find the iPhoto Library there. Drag it to the trash on the Dock.
    3) Any way to rebuild the masters from the thumbnails or from the iPod photo cache?  Aren't the iOS pictures I'm transferring now just a version of the iPod photo cache folder?
    No and No.
I'd ask on the forum for your iOS devices for information on the Syncing.
    Regards

  • After upgrading to Aperture 3.2.2 I can't edit my photo

    Laptop is new 2011 powerbook
    OS is lion 10.7.2
Previously I migrated aperature photos from old laptop to the new one via apple migration of the entire hardrive, one lap top to the other.  All photos were stored on the previous laptop and migrated to the new one with the rest of the data on the hardrive.  When I clicked into Aperture to open I got the update message and did so.  After doing so, the photos are intact, clicking the 'show master' shows the uneditted version but displays message that master is offline.  And I can't do any editing, the edit panel is dimmend and not active.
I tried the repair and rebuild of the library without any change.  The only thing that works is to import all the photo folders:  that returns to me the abilityt to edit photos but the connections to master is lost as all the versions are then treated as originals. So how can i get back both the ability to edit and retain the connection of the master to the versions.

    Thanks  Frank,
The Locate Refrenced File does the job.  It displays the photos (one by one) and their addresses in one frame (upper) of the pop up window and I find and click the matching address in another frame (lower) within the same window, then click to connect the two then "varify"  (Details for future readers.)
Since all I'm doing is matching addresses to addresses, I would've thought the program to do all that itself, but hey, as my uncle (concentration camp surviver) used to say "It's never so bad it couldn't be worse",  so I'm happy.  Besides, I've got nothing better to do during commercial breaks from Big Bang Theory.
    Thanks again.
    Cheers
    Greg.

  • How can I repair / refresh my photo albums?

    Hi all,
I am using iTunes 12.0.1.26 on a Windows 7 64bit computer. I am using an iPhone 5 & an iPad Air both running the latest IOS 8.1
Since updating to the latest versions of IOS & iTunes my photo albums on both iPhone & iPad are a mess. Duplicated folders & photos in the wrong albums. When opening the duplicate folder & selecting all photos, the delete option is not there, so I can't even manually delete them.
I have deleted the iPod Photo Catche, re-synced the iPad, same problem.
I have deleted the iPod Photo Catche, re-synced the iPad, unselecting all of the picture folders. I was asked if I wanted to delete all photos, which I agreed to. Then re-synced the folders again, same problem.
I downloaded iExplorer & deleted "Photos.sqlite" from the iPad. Re-started the iPad & it rebuilt the folders & they are still mixed up!
Helllllllllllp.............. how can I rebuild/repair my albums without resorting to restoring everything. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Roy.

I'm having the same problem on the iPad Aircand iPhone 6 Plus. I really don't know what Apple's problem has been lately, but it's become a joke, between the Remote app and other things. The only thing I can tell you is that I deleted all the photos from my devices and then resynced them again. That solved it until yesterday's software update and then it came back. I'm reaching my end with Crapple.

  • Possible to switch ide drives back to hdX or at least boot by UUID?

I have been messing around for a while on this machine trying to get it to boot properly from a compact flash card connected to the ide controller. It boots fine by using the /dev/sda designation in grub but will not work using UUID.
    Here is the set up:
It is a headless machine (not now though, until booting is properly set up)
The boot drive is connected to the only ide controller in the machine.
There are two onboard sata ports and a 4 port sata adapter that may or may not have drives connected on boot-up
So here is the problem; when a sata drive is connected to the onboard sata port they take priority in linux's naming of the devices. So with one sata drive connected my boot drive now becomes /dev/sdb under linux. The bios still boots off the ide drive and grub still finds the proper stuff on the ide drive. I tried to solve the issue by using UUIDs but the kernel is unable to locate the uuid upon boot. I tried using mkinitcpio to create an initramfs but either mkinitcpio doesn't prepare one with udev support or there is something else causing it just not to work.
So I am thinking if the kernel was able to be set to give all ide drives /dev/hdx designations like it used to pre-2007 everything would work perfectly. Anyone know if that is even possible anymore in recent kernels?
Or, if anyone knows what is needed to boot from uuid that would work as well.
Here is what I have in grub's menu.lst:
    # (1) Arch unRAID
    title Arch unRAID
    root (hd0,0)
    kernel /kernel-2.6.32.24-unRAID root=/dev/disk/by-uuid/3fba6525-8f8b-4ddd-bb18-4a1f61104aa0 ro acpi_enforce_resources=lax
    initrd /kernel-2.6.32.24-unRAID.img
The above is not working. The kernel panics with a statement about not being able to find the root under that uuid.
    Thanks again for any help.

slytux wrote:Try rebuilding the initramfs image without 'scsi' and 'sata' in the HOOKS array.  I had a similar problem when I had to remove 'pata' because I had an IDE drive that I was using for a secondary disk.
Ok I tried this and still got a kernel panic. Also, I'm not sure what you mean by removing pata as well. Isn't that required to detect the ide drives? I guess I could try removing it as well and see what happens.

  • Windows Vista won't start or install - firmware or EFI problem?

I am running Snow Leopard on a 2.4GHz MacBook Pro, late 08 - early 09 model. I have been using boot camp to run Vista for the past year with no problem. This morning, I tried to start up Vista and it wasn't working. I got the option key screen to choose between OSX and Vista, but after choosing vista, the cursor blinks once and I get a black screen. The computer is quiet and nothing seems to be running.
At first I thought it was a boot camp problem. So I went into OSX, de-partitioned the drive, and repartitioned it. I then stuck the Vista install disk in, and clicked through the boot camp assistant to reinstall. The computer restarted to begin the reinstall process, but instead of starting the install disk, it did the same thing - a single blip of cursor, and then a black screen.
I'm not technically savvy, but that seems like it's not a Windows problem, but a firmware or EFI problem. The computer will run OSX, but it won't run boot camp and it won't start from a CD-ROM. The only other steps I've taken are to run Software Update and the Disk Utility from Safari. Neither helped. I'm out of warranty and would love to be able to fix it without spending tons of money. Any help is appreciated.

    586072335 32 Sec GPT table
    586072367 1 Sec GPT header
    The first line:
"gpt show: /dev/disk0: Suspicious MBR at sector 0"
should be identical to mine. If the "Suspicious MBR"
line is missing, then it is a GPT problem, which indicates
that the MBR information is missing or more likely corrupt.
also the second and third lines will read:
    start size index contents
    0 1 PMBR
    instead of:
    start size index contents
    0 1 MBR
If the MBR info in the GPT partition is corrupt or missing,
then (obviously) Windows won't be bootable.
The only tool reliably capable (that I know of) of repairing (rebuilding) the GPT/EFI
without wiping off all partitions and repartitioning the drive
    is iPartition:

The command line program "gpt" is incomplete, so use
    it at your own risk:
    BUGS
The development of the gpt utility is still work in progress. Many necessary features
are missing or partially implemented. In practice this means that the manual page,
supposed to describe these features, is farther removed from being complete or useful.
As such, missing functionality is not even documented as missing. However, it is believed
that the currently present functionality is reliable and stable enough that this tool can be used
without bullet-proof footware if one thinks one does not make mistakes.
