Rebuild iWeb projevt from uploaded site (or other rescue attempt)

Hi!
This is my first post here, so please be patient with me...
I have built a website with iWeb 09, and it is published and is working very well... At least to my intention! Last night I reformatted my computer and installed everything all over. Now, since I have moved my pictures from the Pictures-folder to a network storage, iPhoto (and hence iWeb) cannot find these pictures. For the iPhoto-part it was as easy as to re-import the 17000 pictures, but the project I created with iWeb is a little lost at the moment. Is there a way to "sync" with the site I created so that the iWeb project is up to date again?
Any other solution?
Regards
Magnus

You need to find a copy of the Domain file that was used to create your site. It has the data. Nothing can be done with a published site. The Domain file is normally located in Home/Library/Application Support/iWeb. Hopefully you have a backup from before your reformatting.

In trying to transfer iWeb pages (not uploaded) to another computer I went into the Library and transferred the domain onto the desktop. Disaster! On opening iWeb all previous (uploaded) sites have disappeared. On opening the domain all I can recover is the many component parts, and when unzipped the code. Help! Mike

Code in a domain file - really?  That is not possible because the domain.sites file does not contain any html or css code at all - the domain file is your iWeb data file and you won't see any code until you publish your website.
If you can see html code, then you have the wrong file and it is a published version of your site which iWeb can do nothing with - iWeb has no import facility so cannot open any html files.
Go back and ensure that you have the correct domain.sites files that can be found under your User Library/Application Support/iWeb/domain.sites and if you have Mavericks then you need to go to Go and press the alt key to reveal your hidden User Library, so that you can then get to Application Support and then iWeb and then your domain.sites file.
You will also need to go and download either DomainCracker or iWebSwitch which allows you to open individual domain files under Mavericks, because from Lion onwards, you cannot open individual domain files.
Also, it says that you are still using iWeb 08?  If this is so, you'll either need to upgrade to iWeb 09 by going to Amazon and purchasing the iLife 09 or 11 boxed set, both of which contain iWeb 09 or you need to switch to newer software that is actively being supported and developed such as EverWeb (http://www.everwebapp.com).

  • Restoring iweb domain from published site?

I totally gaffed and didn't copy over my domain file from my old iweb application preferences. I just got a new intel imac and opened iweb and lo and behold my site wasn't there. I have it published to my .mac account and I can copy the web site files over from my idisk. Is there anyway I can use these files to get iweb to construct my domain and all its pages again so that I can edit them? I unfortunately don't have any way of retrieving my old domain file. If this isn't possible, can anyone recommend the least painful way of getting there?
    Thanks!

    Kevin...
unfortunatly.. if you don't have access to the old domain file then it's not looking good.
The best way for you to rebuild your site is to cut and paste them from your idisk into a new templet in iWeb.
I did it early on with my site and it took less time than you think... a couple of hours.
    Sorry for the bad news.

  • My old computer died. Can I retrieve iWeb info from somewhere or do I need to start from scratch?

I built a nice website with iWeb.  My old computer crapped out and I recently bought a new Macbook and installed iWeb to work on it so I can transition to a new web hosting service.  How can I get my iWeb info from the site I have up? Is it possible?

Go to the folder containing your website files on MobileMe. From the Finder Go menu, Follow the path - iDisk/My iDIsk/Web/Sites.
Drag the folder and the external index.html file off the iDisk onto your desktop.
Now you can use an app like the freeware Cyberduck to upload the files to your new host.
You can either upload the index.html file and the folder containing the rest of the files "as is" or use this method to cut out the folder name in the URL...

Note that some features of your site may not work as they did on MobileMe but here are alternatives...

  • Getting to the forum from MSI site

I'm pretty sure I'm not the first to notice, but the only way to internally navigate to this forum from the MSI Website is through the site map. This was changed yesterday as you could previously navigate from the 'Service and Support' menu.
    Anyway, figured someone should know.

Can't duplicate your report. Still works fine getting here from Service & Support -> MSI Forum (at least from global site)

  • Can other people upload pictures to my iweb site and other people comment or rate them? if so how?

can other people upload pictures to my iweb site and other people comment or rate them? if so how?

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. If you use a MobileGallery from iPhoto to house your photos and videos you can set it up in the settings so visitors can upload items to the gallery via email.
You can them embed the gallery in an iWeb page like this: MobileMe Galleries and Quicktime Movies.
I've not tried emailing a photo to a gallery so can't comment on how well it works.
For photo pages or album pages in iWeb visitors can add comments and attachments, photos, which other visitors can view. How they are added I don't know. Here's what the iWeb Help says about that:
    +*About visitor comments and attachments*+
+If you publish your site to MobileMe, you can let visitors add comments and attach files (which other visitors can download) to blog, podcast, and photos pages. These comments and attachments are visible to anyone who visits your website. To prevent automated programs from posting spam to your site, anyone who posts a comment is first required to type a displayed group of characters.+
+Comments appear as soon as they’re posted, and you can delete a comment and its attachment at any time using iWeb or by visiting your site with any browser. You can also turn off comments to prevent new postings without affecting the comments already posted.+
+Comments and attachments are stored on your iDisk. Each comment can be a maximum of 32 kilobytes (KB), and each attachment can be up to 5 megabytes (MB).+
+IMPORTANT:Before posting anything to your website, make sure you own the copyright and other rights to what you or others are posting, or that you obtained all necessary permissions.+

how long does iweb take to upload to idisk re 11 page site, please

How long is a piece of string? There are so many variables it is impossible to say for sure, how many graphics, videos, what broadband speed you have all have to be taken into account. Why don't you try it and tell us the answer.

  • IWeb wants to upload the entire site

I'm using iWeb with UK2.net to host my site. The problem I'm having is this; iWeb will take six hours to upload the site to uk2.net, and it seems to fine online but after the upload I get an error message telling me something went wrong. All the side bar icons remain red. So that means I have reload the entire site any time I want to add an update. It seems to want to upload the main hosting folder by over-righting it and that is why it takers so long. Has anyone else experienced this problem and has anyone any suggestion how to fix this?

The iWeb FTP does upload the whole folder of files created by the application although it shouldn't take 6 hours !
The alternative is to publish to  local folder and upload using an FTP application. This way you can see the files on the server too to make sure they are all being uploaded and to the correct place...

An alternative to uploading the whole folder is to upload the contents...

The fact that you are getting an error message and the pages remain red in iWeb means the all the files aren't getting uploaded or the application is not creating the assets.http file correctly. Try the troubleshooting steps under "Fix iWeb" on this page...

  • I want to transfer iWeb pages from my computer to a friends computer. How do I upload the pages to them?

I want to transfer iWeb pages from my computer to a friends computer. How do I do this?

What is the friend going to do with the website?  If he's to edit and publish it follow Wyodor's links on moving the Domain.sites file to the other Mac.  If it's just so he can open the site locally you need to publish your site to a folder on your hard drive and move that folder to his computer.

  • How to create in iweb but upload to something other than .mac account

I bought my own domain name and have a hosting server all setup through a friend.
My question is can I create my page in iweb and upload it to my own hosting server which is not .mac?
If not, how can I pull all files and folders out to copy up using Classic FTP?
If I cant use iweb at all, what can I use to build my page on my macbook?
    Thank You
    Patrick

    Hi Patrick,
all you have to do is go to File=>Publish to a folder when in iWeb and then upload the resulting files (index.html & folder named with name of your site in iWeb) to your server using an FTP application.

  • Upload PDF directly to printer via Citrix from off-site computers

Is it possible to upload PDF documents directly to the newer HP printers, especially the business printers and copiers (MFDs)?  We have HIPAA-containing data that home-based users must print at work, and therefore cannot be sent via the cloud.
Our current printer vendor supports uploading PDFs directly, which our users are using.  The workflow involves printing via PDFCreator, then opening the web interface print tab of the device they are printing to and uploading, via a browse button, the PDF document.  The connection is handled through our Citrix remote access servers, everything is encrypted, and all data stays out of the cloud.
Because HP's ePrint is in the cloud, we cannot submit HIPAA-containing data via that route.
If no current HP products have that capability, can it be added?  I would think a firmware update to have an upload option would be very doable.  It appears that the ability to print PDFs is already present via ePrint--this would only be another way to submit a print job.
Our current printer vendor's device functionality includes being able to upload and print other print-ready formats, including .PCL and .PS files, but we aren't using that capability currently.  It would be nice to be able to upload .DOC/.DOCX formats directly.

    Hey SPS64,
Thank you for participating in the HP Consumer Support Forums!  The steps you desire are not going to be found on Consumer grade printers, but may be able to be found on some of the Enterprise level printers from HP.  I would advise posting this question on the Enterprise printing boards where there are many experts who would be willing to assist with your question.

  • How can I set Firefox 8.0 to accept 3rd party cookies ONLY from selected sites but NOT from any other sites?

I do not like to accumulate 3rd party cookies and would simply not check the Accept 3rd Party Cookies box in Preferences. BUT in order to use my bank's web page I have to accept 3rd party cookies from a separate site that manages some of their transactions (like paying bills). This means I have to accept 3rd party cookies and then delete them by hand OR I have to check the accept box each time I use the bank's website and then uncheck it when I am done.

Thanks, but that is not what I was trying to do. I do not want to block cookies from a single site. I do not want to block all 3rd party cookies.
What I want to do is ACCEPT 3rd party cookies only from ONE site but NOT from any other site.

  • How can I edit or remove iWeb pages from Mobile me after I have published it to another site?

I have published iweb pages to another server and now I need to replace the mobile me version with page "pages moved to..." or at least I need to delete old version. However I can't find any way to do this from mobile me or from iWeb.
From Mobile me I cant find any way to even delete pages.
With iWeb I cant edit the old version because I cant find way to have two version of same pages. As I understand what I need is a version of my republished pages that only contains the index page "pages moved to...". But I cant create that because I cant have two versions.

  • Uploading a single iWeb Page to an existing website other than mobileMe

I need to make an occasional contribution to my local community's website.
Is it possible to prepare the page(s) using iWeb and then upload it to the relevant part of the website?

    It is possible.
Set up a FTP connection to the server.
Note that iWeb creates an index.html file in the root of the webserver. Make sure it doesn't overwrite the existing one, which might be the homepage of their website.
To prevent it, create a folder on the server first and let iWeb publish to the folder.
Th pathname would be something like: public_html/SomeFolder/
The webmaster will tell you more.
The URL to your webpage would be:
    http://www.yourcommunity.com/SomeFolder/iWebSite/Welcome.html
