Rebuild library one song at a time? Is there a work around?

Just got an email from Apple saying they cannot help me with this, even if i pay their service charge! Great customer service apple. My library crashed during the fix so i am attempting to rebuild my library from my hard drive and transfer it to itunes
all on the one same computer, but its not working.
I followed the instructions on Apples website:
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1451
But when i got to:
7. Choose *File > Library > Import Playlist.*
8. Navigate to the "iTunes Library.xml" file on the Desktop.
  - *Mac users:* Click Choose.
I open the file and it says "some of the songs in the file "itunes Music
library.xml were not imported because they could not be found".
So, THEN I tried copying all my music files into a folder on the desktop,
and then going:
File>Library>Import Playlist>itunes folder (desktop) > Artists
folder>Artist album> individual song>Open
THEN it WILL transfer to itunes library but only ONE SONG AT A TIME and is
not letting me "select all" and am having to import my songs one at a
time!!!!
Seeing as though I have 4,000 songs, this will take me forever!!! Please
help!!!!

You will notice this has just added the tracks as brand new tracks.  I think what Apple was trying to help you do was rescue your old library and in doing so keep things such as playcount, ratings, last played, artwork, and playlists in which things belonged.

Sound like something messed up somehow. Maybe you can consider reinstalling the drivers again? @28.86.2.0

  • After iTunes update it won't import a whole CD, only one song at a time.

I just updated iTunes on a Win 7 64 bit system and now can't import an entire CD. Import stops after 1 or 2 songs, and I get error message "Error occurred while converting the file "(song name)". The disk is not available". I can import the entire CD one song at a time, but cannot get the whole disc to import with one command. Already tried repairing the install and a few other suggestions I found online. Nothing has helped. Any suggestions?

For general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.
The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down the page in case one of them applies.
Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there is backup and recovery advice elsewhere in the user tip.
Although not directly matching your symptoms see also TS2308: iTunes for Windows: Optical drive is no longer recognized, or "Disc burner or software not found" alert after install in case anything there is useful.
You could also try ripping with Windows Media Player to see if the issue is specific to iTunes, or perhaps related to the drive itself or to particular discs. It is always possible that your optical drive has started to fail and can no longer seek reliably.

  • Can I import more than one song at a time?

Hello all, this is my first post so go easy on me...lol
I just purchased my first iPOD today and seem to notice so far that I can only import one song at a time into iTunes library. I cannot select more than one song at a time by holding down the shift button. These are songs that I already have on my computer, not songs just ripped through iTunes. Also how can I get album art onto all of my songs? I've noticed that only one album so far has album art on it. The others don't. Thanks in advance.

Thanks Rachyl, I'll try that when I get off of work. What about the album art? How can I make sure I get it every time in the future. Can I rip my CD's using another software to make sure they are tagged right?
BTW I used to live in NC not too long ago and went to school there....GO HEELS!

  • One song at a time

Since I downloaded iTunes 10.0.1(22) about a week ago, it's only playing one song at a time - not just within playlists but in the music library too. I can't find anything in Preferences that helps. I didn't change any settings anyway. Has anyone any suggestions as to how I might rectify this?
    Thanks.

  • Only Plays One Song at a Time ???

I'm trying to listen to albums in my library but iTunes will only play one song at a time, very annoying to have to down arrow and click play after every song. How can I make iTunes play through my library without stopping?
I'm using iTunes 10.1 (54) and YES all the songs are checked.
    Thanks~

    <SOLVED>
I disabled the Ping drop-down from the Terminal with:
defaults write com.apple.iTunes hide-ping-dropdown -bool TRUE
and viola! Now my library plays without stopping after just one song. Not sure why this fixed my problem but it did? I guess it's just another reason to get rid of Ping!

  • How to play just one song at a time

I have been looking around in iTunes to see how in the heck I can tell it to only play one song at a time when I double click a song in my library (and not the next song). Anybody have any idea if this is even possible? Am I overlooking something?

If you don't use the checkboxes for any other purpose then ctrl+click any checkbox to check/uncheck all visible items. If all items are unchecked iTunes will play any track you double-click on and then stop. As and when you want to listen to an album or a playlist straight through you can make use of the Up Next feature which plays all tracks added to it regardless of checked status.

  • ITunes will only play one song at a time, I can't select an album or artist and have it keep playing the next song.

I just can't figure out how to keep itunes going.  It plays one song at a time and will not go on to the next.  Do I need to change a setting or something?

At a guess you've somehow managed to uncheck the entire library. Select the Songs view, the CTRL+click an empty checkbox. All boxes should become checked. If you don't see the checkboxes use Edit > Preferences to enable them.

  • ITunes only plays one song at a time

After much toing and froing on my new computer, I now have all my songs re-imported into the library. However, iTunes will now only play one song at a time: after it plays one song it just halts; the forward arrow is just greyed out. Any ideas would be most welcome!

Try checking all of those little boxes. To check all at once, hold ctrl while checking one.

  • Unable to move more than one song at a time

For some reason, iTunes has stopped allowing me to move more than one song at a time to playlists or my manually-managed iPod. I can grab as many songs as I want, but when I drag them over to the sidebar, i don't get the little green plus sign that means you can add the songs.
If I only select one song, it woks fine.

Did you by any chance uncheck the the boxes beside any or all of the songs in the library? Unchecked songs won't play in a playlist or the library unless you select them individually: iTunes: Understanding the Symbols Next to Songs
Holding down the Control key and clicking the checkbox next to a song in the library or a playlist will toggle the marks for all the songs on or off: : iTunes 7 Keyboard Shortcuts for Windows

  • My iPod only plays one song at a time

I don't store any music on my iPod - only music videos. They all play fine, and they're stored as properly tagged music video files under Menu->Videos->Music Videos. After I first synced them from my PC, I noticed that they also all appear under Menu->Music as songs. I can play them all just fine, either by selecting one through Menu->Videos (in which case it plays as a video) or by selecting one though Menu->Music, in which case it plays as a regular song with a little picture displayed instead of the video.
    So far, so good.
The only problem is, I can only play one song at a time. I navigate through the menu, select either a song or a video, and the iPod will play that just fine, get to the end, and then bring up the menu again.
How can I get it to play the one I select, and then just play other random songs? It makes no difference whether or not 'shuffle' is selected, it still only plays one then stops. Also, putting the songs in a playlist doesn't seem to make any difference.
    Any advice gratefully received.

Are you sure you don't have Shuffle on? There are a couple of ways to Shuffle on a 5th Gen. iPod. You can't simply choose Shuffle Songs from the Main Menu and shuffle the entire library...or you can go to Settings > Shuffle and choose Songs or Albums and apply that to any playlist you select. The behavior you describe is what happens when Shuffle is turned on and items are set to Skip When Shuffling (an option found on the tracks under Get Info). If Shuffle is on, you should see the little green crossed arrows in the upper right of the iPod window.

  • I can't drag and drop iTunes music files into Roxio Jam 6 anymore and, now I have to import music one song at a time by using the " " or "-" buttons on the bottom. What is going on? G5 Dual 2 Ghz and OS 10.4.11

Hi. I have not used Roxio Jam for quite a long time and I just wanted to make a few CDs. Jam used to work easily and well. I have a problem. I can't drag and drop iTunes music files anymore and, now I have to import music one song at a time by using the "+" or "-" buttons on the bottom. What is going on? I trashed the preferences file and restarted Jam to no avail. I also have selected that Jam should open files with iTunes in the Jam preferences. I have a G5 DP 2Ghz PPC  machine with OS 10.4.11, iTunes 9.2.1 and Quicktime's version is 7.6.4. I have 2 GB of RAM and the machine has dual 1.25 Ghz. processors plus a 500 GB HD. Can anybody give me any suggestions?
    Thanks in advance,
    Larry

    I found an solution.
Uninstalling AirParrot as well as the two offending AirParrotDriver.kext and APExtFramebuffer.kext files in System>Library>Extensions was the fix. All problems disappeared.

  • Apple tv 2 only plays one song at a time.

Apple tv 2 will only play one song at a time from iTunes library.  When I click "play" on an album or playlist it plays one song and stops.  Was fine until recent update.

  • AppleTV plays one song at a time

Apple TV 2 works for me as advertised. I've used it to play music and films off my iPad and desktop. However, when I use the AppleTv remote or the Remote app on the iPad to play albums off my desktop iTunes library, it will play only one song at a time. (it will play entire albums only when streamed from the iPad). Is there a solution?

It turns out that although I thought I had checked all the songs in my iTunes library, I had not. Only a few were checked. When I did check all songs, my problem was solved. I can now play entire albums and playlists rather than one song at a time. Thank you for the solution to this problem. OS

  • After i have downloaded an album from iCloud to my new macbook pro. Itunes will only play one song at a time. If i hit the fast forward or back button will not do anything. I have to use the mouse to hit the next tidal in the album then hit play for it

after i have downloaded an album from iCloud to my new macbook pro. Itunes will only play one song at a time. If i hit the fast forward or back button will not do anything. I have to use the mouse to hit the next tidal in the album then hit play for it to play the next song. Or put it in the UP NEXT.

First, make sure these items have checkmarks next to their names in iTunes. Continuous playback only works on checked items. Itunes will play all checked items in a list whether or not they're from the same album.
If you see that nothing in your library is checked and you want to check everything, hold down Ctrl while checking an item. This checks everything.
Next, fixing the "1 of 1" problem is easily. Select all the tracks that make up the book/album. Let's say there are 15. Press Ctrl-I. Doublecheck that the album box is filled in with the name of the book, and if not, type it there. Enter "15" in the box for the total number of tracks. Click OK. Now all the items should be "1 of 15," "2 of 15," and so on.
