Rebuilt library not recognized

My wife is currently managing >3800 photos in iphoto4. Recently had a problem with albums not functioning properly. Looked at the library and found that it was corrupted. That is, I have files that are obvious aliases that have .jpg extensions. Also, iphoto would not import photos -period! I have tried to follow the threads on this forum - I have reinstalled iphoto4 from my original disks and rebuilt the library. Whenever I start iPhoto with the rebuilt library, it loads and indicates no photos. I can still switch back to my corrupted original library.
Do I need to delete the rebuilt library and and rebuild again? Any advice is appreciated.
BTW, this is a G4 ibook, 768M, OSX10.3.9

I'm trying to imagine how a rebuilt library would not be recognized. How many folders whose names begin with "iPhoto Library" do you find in your Pictures folder, and how are you switching between them (particularly if one's not being recognized)? If you've identified a supposedly rebuilt library that comes up empty, I can't think of any reason to keep it.
You mentioned albums not functioning properly... What does that mean? Library corruption often manifests itself by preventing iPhoto from fully starting at all.
The fact that you're making "alias" references suggests you're spending time in the iPhoto Library folder. That may be related to some of the problems you're experiencing if you've made any manual "adjustments" there in Finder. The iPhoto interface gives absolutely no indication of alias files bacause that should be of no concern to the iPhoto user.

Movie Clips in Event Library not Recognized By Project Library

I downloaded Photos but when working on a project in iMovie 9 my iPhoto videos were not found. However if I revert to using iPhoto I regain my ability to move selected photos into my iMovie project so for now I will simply not use Photos. However I still have a problem. The movie clips in the projects in my Project Library don't find the clips in the Event Library in the iPhoto Videos folder. I see either: "This clip's media file is not currently available" or "Source clip is missing." Is there some way to refresh iMovie? Fortunately the projects shared to iTunes are still intact.

Many who post here use Preference Manager from DIgital Rebellion to trash preferences. It's reliable and the price is right – free.
I assume you've tried different events on different drives and the no-playback problem persists.
And just out of curiosity, can you play clips in a project timeline or if you open the clip in its own time line? And does the skimmer skim?

Library not recognized - can't import .itl or .xml files

Help! I opened iTunes today to update my podcasts and there's NOTHING there! (I have the newest version) I've been through troubleshooting to the best of my ability as well as checked the forums. My available .itl and .xml files are dated today - so they are empty. When I do a search for these files on my computer, I can find two older versions of them in the iTunes folder - one is listed under 'previous libraries' and one is just listed in the iTunes folder. But I cannot navigate to them through the import function of iTunes nor will it work if I use the 'open with' dialog box through the search window. They also do not show up in Windows Explorer. The only way I can see them is through the windows search function. I've tried copying them to different locations and then importing, but I get an error saying these were not properly exported files. The folder that I store my music in doesn't even appear to have all of the music in it anymore. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

I'm trying to add music to a slideshow in iPhoto . I can't see my iTunes library, says to open iTunes to populate list.
Never had this problem before, could be related to an update. Any ideas?

I just bought a new ipod and I'm trying to download my itunes library and games but itunes is not recognizing my new ipod. I have followed all the instructions from apple asistant except deleting and reinstalling itunes. What can I do.

If you are using automatic syncing with your old iPod, select that iPod in iTunes and go to its Music tab (next to Summary). Note how this Music tab is set up. Maybe you can do a screen shot.
Now, select the new iPod in iTunes. Go to its Music tab, like you did for the old iPod. Set up the new iPod's Music tab exactly like the old iPod, and Apply the change.
The music on your new iPod should now match the old iPod.

How did you rebuild?
Try these in order - from best option on down...
1. Do you have an up-to-date back up? If so, try copy the library6.iphoto file from the back up to the iPhoto Library allowing it to overwrite the damaged file.
2. Download <a href="http://www.fatcatsoftware.com/iplm/"><b><u>iPhoto Library Manager</b></u></a> and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.
3. If neither of these work then you'll need to create and populate a new library.
To create and populate a new *iPhoto 6* library:
Note this will give you a working library with the same Rolls and pictures as before, however, you will lose your albums, keywords, modified versions, books, calendars etc.
Move the iPhoto Library to the desktop
Launch iPhoto. It will ask if you wish to create a new Library. Say Yes.
Go into the iPhoto Library on your desktop and find the Originals folder. From the Originals folder drag the individual Roll Folders to the iPhoto Window and it will recreate them in the new library.
When you're sure all is well you can delete the iPhoto Library on your desktop.
In the future, in addition to your usual back up routine, you might like to make a copy of the library6.iPhoto file whenever you have made changes to the library as protection against database corruption.

Aperture 2.1.4 not recognizing my library

I have Aperture 2.1.4 and yesterday as I was importing photos, I got an error saying I needed to rebuild my library. So I go to do that, and get a permissions error (even though when I checked the details on the library it showed that I have read and write permissions, like usual). Now it's not recognizing my library. I've checked the preferences and the library is in the Pictures folder like it should be, and that library is selected, and even when I open the application from the library itself, it doesn't load it. I've checked the package contents on the library and all of the folders are still there, so what's the problem here, and is there any way to fix it?

Cannot download ebooks from public library. error "copy not authorized". not recognizing adobe account

Trouble downloading ebooks from public library. Have done it many times recent problem. Error "copy not allowed". Suspect that Nook is not recognizing the adobe account.

I've been downloading books from the New York Public Library to my PC and then I move the book into ADE and from ADE to my Nook without any problems. I've also been able to return the books from ADE to the library although I have yet to learn how to delete them Nook. You may want to recertify your computer for the ADE by selecting Library on the ADE b ar and moving down to "authorize computer"and click "finish" I also do that when I have the Nook connected and select device and once it has been confirmed as authorized I copy the book to the Nook. I hope this helps.

Why is the ipod nano not recognized on my computer in order to sync songs from m music library?

I need help. I was able to put songs on the ipod nano from songs that i bought from itunes... but how can i put songs on the nano from my music library already on my computer. I have tried dragging the songs to the folder. I have tried copying songs to the itunes cloud but the nano does not show the songs. How do i put songs on the nano that are from my cds? When I try to sync the songs, the nano is not recognized.

IPod Shuffle Not Recognized In Windows Or iTunes v7.0 - What Now?

Hello everyone,
I am having the same problem as many who have posted here. I have upgraded my software to iTunes v7.0.1.8. I also accepted the auto update for my iPod Shuffle - 512GB 1st Gen to v 1.44 (I believe). Of course, now my Shuffle is not recognized in iTunes and is only recognized in Windows for less than 5 seconds (as I have monitored it). I am listing below all of the actions I have taken today.
As none of these have worked, my question is now what? Does anyone have any other suggestions before I take the dreaded step of calling support? Any help is appreciated.
I am not happy with this upgrade issue at all. I expect much better from Apple.
Steps Already Taken:
1. Reset iPod.
2. Set Terminal Services to "Manual" and restarted my laptop PC.
3. Changed all USB Root Hub entries power management options to "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power option" and rebooted.
4. Assigned my external hard drive a different letter as it was assigned to "E" and tech support documentation suggested I changed it - I changed it to "M".
5. I stopped the iPod Service via the Services and Application interface from My Computer/Manage, reattached the Shuffle, and started the iPod Service. The Shuffle was still not recognized.
6. I uninstalled iTunes 7.0.1.8, the Apple Software update and QuickTime. I deleted all temp directories; program files folders and all possible traces of all three pieces of this software. I also deleted my iTunes library. I reinstalled all of this software and re-built my Library. NONE OF THIS WORKED!
My 30GB Video iPod works fine and always has - it is only the shuffle for which I have this issue any only since the upgrade.
What do I do now? If no one has another fix, I will be forced to call Tech Support after an experience with them over a year ago I would almost rather throw this thing away!

qswh - I too cannot play the songs that are loaded on the shuffle. Additionally, I get a green & orange light when I plug it into a USB port and then I either get a blinking orange light or a solid orange light from there after.

Fastforward, ipod is replaced. Windows will still not recognize it -- most of the time. The toolbar says USB device detected and hardware installed and ready to use, but the message that it's not recognized by Windows still appears. Now I said it was recognized sometimes. When it magically is (this is my only description for it because there is no apparent reason), and this is rare, usually after the computer has been turned off for awhile, the ipod will sync through about a fifth of my library then quit. The "disc cannot be found" message appears, and Windows stops recognizing and I'm back to square one. One would think that I now at least have a fifth of my songs on the ipod. Nope, just one for each time this has happened (being 2). Please do not respond with anything having to do with updating or uninstalling/reinstalling drivers, disabling USB 2.0, searching for E:\ drive, Windows Update, the whole appleipod.bat thing, updating itunes, or scanning for new hardware as I have tried these and a few other solutions. Nano 3rd generation recently purchased is not recognized by iTune Account

I recently purchased a Nano 3rd generation that has no songs or any other type of media on it. It does have a device name "user1". I need to change the device name to match my current iTunes account so that it can be synced with iTunes. I ran the diagnostics but while iTunes seemed to find the device, the sync test would fail. See below. I am trying to find out how to correct this problem so the device can be loaded with the current library.
