Recalibrate compass in Maps for iOS 6

I've installed iOS 6 on my iPhone 4. In Maps when I turn on the compass feature it appears to be off by about 10-15 degrees. Is there a way to recalibrate the compass?

Strangely after doing the figure 8 motion it is now off even more. Strange. Now it seems to be off by about 30-45 degrees.

Unfortuately you are stuck with the new but not as good and deficient Maps app. This issue has been discussed on many threads here. Do a search on this forum and maybe there is a post that can help you with your problem, which sounds as if it is due because the new Maps doesnt have the same extensive data as the old Google one does.
    Good luck.
PS you can still access Google maps from Safari by creating  home screen shortcut from the browser. Not perfect but it is a temprary solution.

  • How to access the compass in maps for ipad

How do you turn on the compass in the new Maps app for the iPad?

For some reason the the compass app is not included in the pre installed apps on the iPad. You might like to try Compass 54 instead.

By "searching the net" do you mean looking for tutorials in the inspiration browser? If so, the video tutorials can now be found at tv.adobe.com.

  • Where is the bookmarks icon in Maps for iOS 8?

I'm having trouble sending bookmarks from my Mac (Mavericks) to my iPhone 5 (iOS 8).
I can't find any way to save or access bookmarks or favorites. In the documentation online, a bookmark icon is shown in the upper right corner of the Maps app. An action icon is in that position on my screen. Help!

What I had to do is send to my iPhone from my Mac, respond to the resulting alert, choose the action button while the destination was highlighted, and then save the address to favorites.

  • What's the best way to create zoomable map for iOS by using Flash?

We got a big location map that allows user to zoom in and out and do the panning but the image of the map is not very smooth when you  pan it in iOS (Android is ok) so is there a way to fix this problem?
    thanks!

Which one you use might depend on the nature of the picture, like, a picture with lots of flat colored areas will come out a lot smaller as a lossless PNG than as a 100% JPEG. It would be interesting to try an 8 bit or 16 bit PNG, see if that makes it use less GPU memory. JPEG is usually 24 bit, and it or a 24 bit PNG should take the same amount of GPU memory.
There is a chance that AIR is using 32 bit throughout on iOS, so it won't matter what the original image was if that's the case, just the width and height would determine the amount used.
The smoothing setting is more about whether you're going to scale the image, which I guess you would be if you want the image to be scaled down. If you could have a smaller version that the user then touches to go immediately to the larger version, both could be set to have no smoothing, which may improve performance.

  • Google Static Maps for IOS

    HI,
I'm working on using static maps on the iPhone and its running really well so far. I can add custom markers and the maps look nice.
What I'm having a problem with is having a link on the marker itself. I just can't see where the link goes and google don't mention it on the static map
help pages. Can it be done?
This is my URL to add map and markers, so I guess it should go in here...somewhere
    url = "http://maps.google.com/maps/api/staticmap?zoom=14&size=" + 310 + "x" + 320 + "&maptype=roadmap&markers=color:blue|label:A|" + mapLat + "," + mapLong + "&sensor=true";
    any help would be great
    KBN

No, it would probably be better to check with Google.

A lot has been written about the new maps application in IOS 6. Shame on Apple for releasing such abysmal software.

Bing Maps offers a very good maps service with Bird's Eye, a feature similar to Flyover. It's arguably better than Google Maps.

Although I have been using Google Maps App in India for a while now (without any issues) but I still want to know if there are any plans for launching Turn by Turn Navigation under the OOTB Map App for iOS?
It has been quite a while since Apple came up with Map App of their own and should be releasing improved maps with more capabilities in India.
    Cheers!

No one here can answer your question, as there is no one from Apple here, & no one here represents Apple or speaks for Apple.

  • When do we get Map Directions in india for ios 6

when will map direction and search local places avaliable for india in ios 6.

Safari does not help, while driving, just like Google map used to. It won't help you to reach to your destination. I have seen multiple forums, everywhere it is recommended to use Web application for google map. I have tested it, it is not helpful for directions purpose, as you need to keep on clicking on present location.
I had tried to use Apple map while driving, it was not changing the location, as per the speed of car. Also location was almost 500 meter, as compared to actual location.
Apple maps are not updated as well. It seems to be atleast 2 years old data for India. I have checked multiple locations, every where data is not updated. Do we have any procedure to share this feedback with Apple,so that they should work on update the maps for India as well.

    What can I do ?

I am getting a similar error when exporting a release build for ios.
It seems to be caused by the number of assets I include in the project. If I remove all of the video assets from the package it builds a working release. When the video assets are included, it fails to export the release build with the error "map failed".
So it seems to be the number of assets included or the total size of the included assets that causes the error for me. But I can't find a way around it so can't currently export a release build with all the required assets.
I'm starting to wonder wether I'm going to have to write some kind of "updater" to download all the required assts to the iOS device when the app is first run, which isn't ideal.

  • Is this the right to use or for iOS can use dynamic google maps embeded(can be embedded fo iOS)

    function displayMap(e) {

    $.mobile.changePage('#map', 'fade', false, true);
my phonegap (Adobe press, Powers jQuery with dw 5.5) book (old book (c)2010-11) says for above code: // is this valid for today, is this the right to use or for iOS can use dynamic google maps embeded(can be embedded fo iOS)???
On iOS, calling window.location loads the map directly
into the app. That’s great until you realize that iOS devices
don’t have a Back button, so there’s no way to exit the
map. To get round this problem, I loaded a static map as
an image in the map page block. It’s not interactive, but at
least you can continue using the Travel Notes app after
viewing the map by clicking the Back button generated by
    jQuery Mobile.

Well, this took me a while to get solved, but it is indeed solved.
I tried USB Overdrive and it could, and perhaps should work, but apparently it will not. When adding a device, it seems that USB Overdrive is not set up to handle any input device that does not register itself as either a Mouse or a Joystick. The VEC USB Footpedal that I'm using is "Device type: Other".
So, I went for Quickeys. And Quickeys can do it all. It did recognize the device, I was able to assign it to the scope of the particular audio playback app I wanted to use (Amazing Slow Downer OS X - which is truly amazing. Any musicians reading this who are looking for a way to learn pieces by ear, this does it better than anything else I've seen yet).
I created a shortcut in Quickeys for the ASD app; added the middle button of the foot pedal as the trigger; set one step, entering 'space bar' as the step (which toggles playback, similar to many audio players).
    It all worked.
Quickeys is very confusing and seemingly featured with an endless array of options. Enter at your own risk. Ask me for help. This was the only way to get it done that I could find. I did write to the author of USB Overdrive asking him to please support additional devices as I did find some traction from gamers who like to use a foot pedal in addition to other input devices. There was a Windows-only management utility for the foot pedal that was intended for custom input, assigning the buttons to any keyboard input or mouse click event. It would be nice to have a simple and easy to use utility like this. But, Quickeys did do the job.
Thanks for your help, you guys!!!

  • 2 Questions on Maps in iOS 6 on iPhone 4

I know that certain iOS 6 Maps features are not available on on iPhone 4, but my questions are:
    1. Is there a way to add the Maps to the lockscreen as advertised, or is that a 4s and above thing as well?
    2. Is there a way to plan a trip with multiple destinations in the Maps app?
    Thanks in advance!

Why is it bullying? You have a 2 year old phone and expect all the same features in newer phones with better hardware? The iphone 4 camera is no where's near as good at the 4S so that is probably the reason why. You would be complaining about the quality if they decided to give you panorama and it didn't work as well on the 4.
+1  It's the I'm entitled to everything mentality that is amazing.  I don't know many (if any) phone manufacturers who offer software updates to phones that are two years out of date, yet Apple does.  Only they can't offer all upgrades as the processor or camera, etc., on older devices can't be compatible with the newer features.  Yet, people will still complain.......
I wouldn't complain if they wouldn't be flashing these new features in my face for months at a time, saying that i'll get them in the new operating system, and then once i get it, i realize that none of them are things i can have.
just say "these features are only for ios 6, which will only be available for iphone 4S and up."
if they said that, i would have more respect for them. instead they just say you'll get all these things, then in fine print later after it's released 'oh yea, you can't take panoramic photos. yea yea i know you can do that NOW with a ton of free apps, but the one we're making, you can't have. no reason. doesn't require more processing power. you're able to do it with the processing power you have now. also has nothing to do with the resolution of your photos. it just has to do with stitching multiple photos together. but yea, you can't have it, but i'm going to get your hopes up till september so you download it anyway. you may be disappointed after you download it, but i never SAID you'd be able to have all these features."

  • How can I install Google Maps on IOS 6?

Since I upgraded to IOS 6, Google Maps has been replaced by a poorer Apple version that doesn't support public transport. I want Google maps back. How can I install Google Maps on IOS 6 or downgrade to IOS 5?
    Thanks.

Google Maps has not yet or does not look  like they are creating a standalone app at this time.
It is not easy to downgrade, not recommended by Apple, very involved in order to do that. Again, not recommended.
Use MapQuest for now if you are unhappy with Apple Maps. I was never happy with Google Maps, so I have been using MapQuest for a long time for all directions.

  • BUG - client-side iPad keyboard in MRD 8.1.5 is mis-mapped for remote VMware Player console on Windows 8.1 Pro

Client system: iPad 4 running iOS 8.1.1
    Client language/locale: US English
    Client app: MRD 8.1.5
Server system: 64-bit Windows 8.1 Pro
    Server language/locale: US English
Problem: client-side keyboard in MRD 8.1.5 does not work properly within VMware Player 6 console only
When interacting with VMs through the VMware Player 6 console app on the remote Windows 8.1 host, the client-side iPad keyboard for MRD 8.1.5 is not properly mapped. Letter keys and the top-row number keys send function keys or non-standard key scan codes
that aren't used by traditional PC keyboards. The spacebar sends the D key, and some keys send nothing at all. Many other keys work properly, including the client-side numeric keypad, and uppercase letters sent by using the Shift key (but not the iPad up-arrow
shift key). The only way to send the proper keystrokes to VMware Player from MRD 8.1.5 is to not use the client-side iPad keyboard and instead switch to the on-screen keyboard provided by the remote Windows server.
This problem only occurs within the VMware Player console app, and only with RDP connections that use the MRD 8.1.5 client on iOS. I do not encounter the problem with other iOS RD clients such as iFreeRDP by Thinstuff or Pocket Cloud Remote Desktop by Wyse.
    Steps to reproduce:
Connect to Windows 8.1 Pro system from the MRD 8.1.5 client for iOS 8.1.1
Using the client-side iPad keyboard within MRD 8.1.5, bring up the Run dialog by typing Windows-R
Launch Notepad by typing notepad.exe in the Run dialog and pressing Enter on the client-side iPad keyboard
Type some sample text in Notepad until you're confident that the client-side iPad keyboard is functioning properly
Launch VMware Player 6 and start up a VM (mine was Windows Server 2008)
Open the sign-on prompt in the VM by sending Ctrl-Alt-Ins from the client-side keyboard or by pressing the Ctrl-Alt-Del icon in VMware Player
Touch or click in the password field in the VM to ensure it has keyboard focus
Using the client-side keyboard, try to type letters or numbers in the password field, and notice that dots generally do not appear for most keypresses
Switch to the server-side on-screen keyboard and delete the contents of the password field if it is not already empty
Use the server-side on-screen keyboard to sign on to the VM
Inside the VM, open Notepad or some other text editor
Enter text into the editor from both the client-side and server-side keyboards to verify that only the server-side keyboard is functioning properly within the VM
This issue is the only problem I'm having with MRD for iOS, and I hope it is resolved soon.
