RECALL- iPhone 3g adaptor

Apple announced the Apple Ultracompact USB Power Adapter Exchange program because of the following:
"Apple has determined that under certain conditions the new ultracompact Apple USB power adapter's metal prongs can break off and remain in a power outlet, creating a risk of electric shock. We have received reports of detached blades involving a very small percentage of the adapters sold, but no injuries have been reported."
For all the information go to http://www.apple.com/support/usbadapter/exchangeprogram/
This includes iPhone 3Gs sold in the U.S. You can exchange your adaptor at an Apple retail store or via the web starting Oct 10. Shipping may take 3 weeks, so just take a trip to the mall.

Thanks again Apple. For wasting our time.

How does this waste your time? Go on the internet, fill out the information they will send you a new one, you send yours back. How long can it take?
This was actually sort of a blast from the past for me, when I grew up prongs being left in the socket occurred pretty frequently hence you spent a significant amount of time replacing cords on lamps, televisions, etc.
So I'm assuming if you had a MacBook Pro you reacted the same way regarding the battery?

  • Can I charge my UK iPhone in USA with USA iPhone USB adaptor?

I'm going to the USA for a holiday and I want to know can I charge my UK iPhone 4S with a USA iPhone USB adaptor? I don't want to take my UK iPhone USB adaptor. So can I use the USA iPhone adaptor?

Why would it? ALL iPhones charge using industry standard USB power of 5 volts DC. All iPhone chargers output 5 volts DC.

  • IPad 3.2.1 update will no longer let me use the apple iphone VGA adaptor?

Has anyone else have this problem. I was using the apple iphone VGA adaptor I purchased from apple for $49 on my iPad, but since the update I can no longer use it? I dont know if anyone else is having this problem, I don't know if Apple purposely put an update to force you to purchase the "iPad VGA Connector", but if they did thats just plain messed up.

Can you try the modem plugged directly into the master socket without any ADSL filters. You will lose your broadband connection during the test, but it will eliminate any problem with the BT Home hub, or the microfilter.
ADSL does not start until 30kHz, which is well above the range that an analogue modem works at.

well if it doesn't do it when the car charger isn't connected. i would try using a different car charger. that would be your first step to troubleshoot

  • Charging battery: usb-computer vs usb-iphone power adaptor

My new 3GS charged from shutdown to full using the Apple power adaptor that came with the iPhone, in only a few hours. Seems fast. And I read that the computer gives a trickle charge. In general, a slow trickle charge is preferable, if one is not in a hurry.
Does this imply that the wall adaptor does NOT give a trickle charge, and might be harsher on the battery, even though faster?
IF there is a difference between the computer and wall adaptor, then, I will use the computer (when it's not sleeping) to charge, rather than the power adaptor.
    Thanks,
    Sonny

This link provides info on how the iPhone's battery is charged, regardless if connected to the wall charger or to a USB port on your computer, or to a vehicle charger.

  • Can I charge my iPad 3 with my iphone 5 adaptor

I have an iPad 3rd generation... Can I charge it with the adaptor i received with my iPhone 5, but the wire coming with the iPad?

You can but it won't be the most efficient thing you'll do. iPhones put out half the power the iPad wants, so you'll  get a not-charging warning and it'll take longer.
I'ts one of those 'in a pinch' things, but not something I'd do on a regular basis

  • Power cord on iPad has 10w adaptor but on iPhone no adaptor on plug. Are they interchangeable?

Are power cords in UK/IRL on iPad and iPhone interchangeable?
My iPad has a 10w adaptor on the plug of the power cord and the iPhone power cord has no adaptor. Do I have to carry both power cords when travelling or will one safely charge both devices?
Also I have a usb charger in my car - can I charge both devices on it?

The cord itself is interchangable. The power bricks are different. The ipad wants 10W, the iPhone 5W, however you can safely use an iPad charger to charge your iPhone.

  • How do i know if my iPhone 5s is recalled for bad battery?

I heard apple is recalling iphones for bad batteries. How can i find out if my 5s is affected by the recall. Will apple contact me?

I didn't hear anything about a recall but they did say some bad batteries are in a limited number of iPhones. Best way to check would be to call AppleCare.

  • I updated my ipad2 to ios7 and now it won't allow me to download photos from my iphone..it says connected device is not supported (on the iphone)

I updated my ipad 2 and my iphones to ios7...now when I plug the adapted in to download my images from the iphone to the ipad..I get a message saying that the connected device is not supported...It worked before ios 7  what do I do?

Same problem here. I am trying to load photos from my iPhone 5 to my iPad 3. The iPad asks me to trust the iPhone, and the iPhone says "iPad: device not supported". I am using the camera connection kit w/ USB connector and my iPhone lightning adaptor. This worked before iOS 7.

  • Mic adaptor for touch 3G?

sorry if this has been dealt with before, i did do a search, but it didn't turn up the answer.
i have a nice stereo mic with a minijack connector and i'm wondering if there's an adaptor i can buy for my 3g touch, so i can use it with voice memo etc. there are a few nice mics about specifically for the touch, but it would be much cheaper for me to buy an adaptor and use my existing microphone!
    many thanks

Thanks. Let me see if I get this straight: the reason not to use the iPhone 3G in the universal dock is that the universal dock is so wide that the iPhone 3G might wobble in there and break or bend a pin?
The iPhone 3G DOES work with the UNIVERSAL dock! This dock comes with multiple adaptors to fit various iPods, original iPhone and iPhone 3G. I don't know if it yet comes supplied with the iPhone 3G adaptor, but these can be bought separately from the Apple Store.
And same question for the original iPhone's dock that had a slot for the Bluetooth earpiece: is the reason not to use it that the 30-pin connector won't connect with the old dock's receptacle, or is because the bay is too wide to hold it firmly in place?
The original iPhone dedicated and combo (with BT set) doesn't fit the iPhone 3G and doesn't accept adaptors. Some users have physically modified them to work as described in a earlier post.

  • IPhone 5 turns off and then does not turn back on easily

My iPhone 5 was working great, that is until I woke up this morning.  It was fine and then about 30 minutes later it just turned off and would not turn back on.  I tried a hard reboot and no luck.  I went out to the support communities and found where someone suggested toggling the silent button on and off.  I did that and it came back on.  But, it was only on for about 4-5 minutes and turned off again.  I was able to get it to turn back on again, did a back-up and upgraded to the new iOS.  After the update the phone was fine while it was plugged in.  I then unplugged it and it turned off again a 4-5 minutes later.
I was able to get it turned back on again after many attempts and did a factory reset and wiped the device.  Once again, once I unplugged the device it died shortly after that.
This tells me that with the newest iOS and the phone returned to factory settings, I'm really thinking a hardware issue.
    Anyone else having this problem?
    Michael

Might be a bad battery. Check to see if it is eligible for the battery recall: iPhone 5 Battery Replacement Program - Apple Support.

  • IPhone 4S not working with TomTom Car Kit

    Hi,
I have the TomTom car kit for 3GS and have just upgraded to iPhone 4S.
I have one of the iPhone 4 adaptors from TomTom for the car kit, but even with this on, and trying some of the other suggestions online about a strip of velcro, I cannot get the cradle and the iPhone 4S to work together.
Has anyone with a 4S managed to use it with the car kit?
    Thanks,
    Graz.

    Hi All
    Right, this is what worked for me;
I had a iPhone 4 running ios 5 and all was fine. Since upgrading my to 4s my TomTom car kit wouldnt regognise the new phone.
Remove the iPhone 4 adapter (retangular stick on thing that comes with the kit specifically for the iphone 4)
turn it over so it is facing the wrong way. You should still have enough stick left behind on the kit itself to stick on again - must be the wrong way around!!
    Job done!!
    Works a treat
