Receive Connector accepting oversized messages

Hi. Weird thing...
Exchange 2010 SP3 UR5.  Organization was 5.5 --> 2003 --> 2010.
Current settings are:
Global Transport max send/receive size = 20MB
Receive connector max size = 10MB
User mailbox Message Size Restrictions = not set
Distribution Lists user is a member of's Message Size Restrictions = not set
User received a number of messages ranging from 16MB to almost 20MB.
How is this even possible - shouldn't the Receive Connector's smaller limit apply here?  What am I missing?
Screenshots of RC configured for 10MB and Message tracking showing it pass a 16MB message:

Hi,
From your description, I would like to clarify the following thing for troubleshooting:
The Receive Connectors are configured at the Server Level which means that if you have a group of Hub Transport behind a Load Balancer, all servers must be configured the same way related to limits, otherwise, you will experience weird issues.
Hope this can be helpful to you.
Best regards,
Amy Wang

  • Receive Connector stopped working after Update Rollout 2 for Exchange 2007 SP2

One of the Exchange 2007 servers receive connector has stopped working since installing the latest rollout update for Exchange 2007 SP2 - for some reason the following error is received (when troubleshooting on the adjacent server) :
"Remote server server.domain.co.uk failed the mail acceptance test. MAIL FROM command: Respond = 530 5.7.1 Client was not authenticated."
Most admins will know you usually get this when first setting up Exchange and the receive connector not allowing anonymous connections. But our setup has been working for well over a year with no problems. Even enabling anonymous connections still doesn't fix the problem.
Our setup is 2 exchange servers across 2 sites, with the problematic server never receiving email from the internet, only from the other Exchange server (which is internet facing). The above error is received when the internet facing server is relaying email over to the problematic server. Though in the message queue the following error is received:
    "SMTPSEND.DNS.NonExistantDomain; nonecistant domain"
After testing DNS that all seems fine, so I don't believe it's a DNS problem.
Any ideas why this would happen?
    Thanks,
    Matt

    Hi Matt....
To receive e-mails from the external servers or domains or clients, you can setup a new receive connector on Hub Transport Server. To do this task, you can go through the steps mentioned in this blog....

    Hi,
If the CAS and MBX servers are collocated on the same server the SMTP Receive connection for the Transport service will listen on 2525 instead of 25. This is because two services (FET and Transport Service) can’t listen on the same port.
    Refer from this article:
    http://blogs.technet.com/b/rischwen/archive/2013/03/13/exchange-2013-mail-flow-demystified-hopefully.aspx
Please try to create an endpoint for 2525 on default receive connector to test mail flow by the following steps:
EAC -> mail flow -> receive connectors -> Default EXCHANGE
Click Edit then click scoping tab.
    Under Network adapter bindings, click
add button to create port 2525 for all available Ipv4/Ipv6 addresses.
    Best Regards.

  • Exchange 2010 Receive Connector intermittently getting an SMTP RSET from sending SMTP servers causing missing user email

Users are receiving about 95% of their messages from sending SMTP servers. Intermittently, sending SMTP servers send the Exchange 2010 Server a SMTP RSET command for no apparent reason. The RSET Command (by SMTP specification) causes the Exchange 2010 Server
to drop the message. The sending SMTP servers then do not resend the message after asking the Exchange server to drop the message. This means the message is marked as Sent by the sending servers but the dropped messages never show up in the users' Outlook
    inbox.

    Hi,
According to the receive connector log, your emails were failed to be deliverd with DNR. If I misudnerstand the meaning, please feel free to let me know.  If yes, I'd like to confirm the detail information in the DNR to narrow down the
    cause.
Additionally, based on my research, the RSET command performs an SMTP reset, and then aborts the message that is currently being sent. Thus, the log didn't provide more information for troubleshooting. Is there any other error in your event log? please check
the event log when the issue happens again.

  • Receive Connector

    Hi,
I am running Exchange Server 2013 and after a reboot all works fine for an undetermined amount of time, then for some reason the receive connector stops working, well I presume it is the receive connector. Using the Microsoft Remote Connectivity Analyzer
I get the following error (See Below). As far as I can tell only a reboot of the Server will resolve this error as I have tried stopping all the Exchange Server's services & restarting them and did not fix the problem. As you could imagine rebooting
the server during the day is almost impossible but also not being able to receive emails is very painful. Any advice would be helpful as at this point I am fresh out of ideas except a re-install and hope it doesn't do it again (not really an option). I have
also deleted the receive connector & re-created it.
Delivery of the test email message failed.
    Additional Details
The server returned status code -1 - The operation has timed out.
    Exception details:
Message: The operation has timed out.
    Type: System.Net.Mail.SmtpException
    Stack trace:

    Elapsed Time: 100001 ms.

    Hello,
Regrettable the original fault is still there. somewhere between 2 1/2 hours to 3 hours after the server has rebooted it fails the connectivity test & we stop receiving emails same error as above. The only to resolve this issue is to reboot the server
again (almost impossible during working hours). I receive the same error as before, listed above. I have tried deleting the receive connector & re-creating it, have also tried as a frontend connector and a hub connector same thing happens on both.

  • Receive connector anonymous or authenticate

    Hi,
Does anyone know a way to set a receive connector to only request authentication in certain circumstances?
Let me explain the scenario: If you have a receive connector that is set to accept general inbound emails from anyone then it will be set to accept emails from any sender address.
However, if someone is trying to spoof the sender address and they use an email address which is valid within your organisation then it would be really useful if it could request authentication at that point, since emails from internal users should only
    come from authenticated devices.
Is there any way to do this?
    Thanks in advance.
    Neil

    Hi,
According to your description, there are spoofing emails in your environment. And as far as I know, the authentication of receive connector cannot only work in certain circumstance.
However, I recommend the following methods to prevent emails spoofing.
    1. Remove ms-Exch-SMTP-Accept-Any-Sender for anonymous users on the receive connector
    2. Remove ms-Exch-SMTP-Accept-Authoritative-Domain-Sender for anonymous users on the receive connector
    3. Enable Sender-ID validation on the receive connector, with a corresponding TXT (SPF) record in DNS.
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff714972.aspx
    4. Enable the Anti-Spam functionality on the mailbox server:
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb201691(v=exchg.150).aspx
If you have any question, please feel free to let me know.

  • Blackberry won't receive all split text messages

I have a blackberry pearl 8130 and its character length for text messages is 140 characters. so when someone sends me a message that is over this length my phone splits it into 2 separate messages. The problem is sometimes I will only receive 1/2 to messages or 2/2 (bot not 1/2). Does anyone know if this is a problem with my phone or with my service provider (I am with vrigin mobile)? also there is only one person that sends me such long messages so could it be a problem with her phone?
    Thanks

This issue lies at operators end. You better check with them and try to know what policy they maintain on multi-part SMS.

  • Receive Connectors for Internal Relays - Before & After 2007-2013 Co-existence

I have just completed the process of migrating from Exchange 2007 Standard SP3 RP10 to Exchange 2013 Standard. I now have Exchange 2013 Standard CU3 installed on two Server 2012 Standard systems. The two new exchange servers are members of a DAG.
With Exchange 2007, I had to include the IP addresses of multi-function devices (MFDs) with scan to e-mail capability in a receive connector in order for the scan to e-mail to work.
Five of the MFDs were on the same subnet as our Exchange 2007 servers, and one MFD was not.
It is on the same subnet as our Exchange 2013 servers.
I created new Receive connectors on our Exchange 2013 servers for this purpose.
The one MFD on the same subnet as the Exchange 2013 servers was mistakenly excluded from a receive connector.
Much to my surprise, it is able to relay mail.
I removed the IP address of one of the other MFDs to see if the fact that it is on a different subnet than the Exchange 2013 servers made a difference.
I replicated our domain controllers to help ensure that a lack of AD replication would not be an issue with this test.
The excluded MFD is still able to relay items.
I have an application on a server.  The application relays messages, but the IP address of the server it is on is not included in any receive connectors.
By searching through  the SMTPreceive log, I found the IP address of the MFDs I did my scan to e-mail tests from in the log.
I also found the IP address and relayed messages from the application server.
The log indicates that the Default Frontend connector is handling this traffic.
Does Exchange 2013, by default, relay messages from all internal IP addresses?
Does this mean that I don’t need receive connectors for any internal devices (MFDs, servers, etc.).
Our Exchange 2007 servers have been decommissioned.  Would I have needed connectors while we were still in a co-existence situation?
Am I likely to need them when we have our next co-existence situation in a few years?

Hi Cara. Thank you for the response.
If I understand you correctly, you are saying that the MFDs are able to relay because the Default Frontend connector allows them to.
That makes sense for the one MFD that was not included in the customised connector I created.
Thank you for helping me sort that out.
By analysing the Front End Transport logs at the following location on my server, I determined that the included MFDs were using the customised connector I had created.
    C:\Program Files\Microsoft\Exchange Server\V15\TransportRoles\Logs\FrontEnd\ProtocolLog\SmtpReceive
If I removed the IP address for one of those MFDs, it was still able to relay, but it was doing that through the Default Frontend connector.
That makes sense.  As explained near the end of the following article, Exchange uses the most specific connector.
    http://exchangeserverpro.com/exchange-2013-configure-smtp-relay-connector/
The one that includes the specific IP address of the MFD will be used, but if the IP address is not specified in any connectors, The Default Frontend connector will automatically be used by
    the device.
I believe that I now understand how the have the relaying from MFDs is taking place, but I am not certain how some applications are completing their relaying.
Another department in my organisation has their own network.
I have a customised receive connector that includes the IP addresses of two application servers on their network.
Applications on these servers relay messages through the Exchange server on my network.
The headers on the relayed messages suggest that the messages are being relayed by the Default Frontend connector.
The logs for that connector, however, do not contain any entries for the two IP address.
The message tracking logs suggest that the Default <servername> connector is relaying for these applications.
If the most specific connector is supposed to handle the relaying, why is that not happening in this case?
Also, two other application servers from this network are not included in any customised connectors I have created.
The logs show that they are relaying mail through the Default Frontend connector.
If I understand you correctly, you are saying that this should not be happening, as applications and external users require a customised connector, rather than a built-in connector.
If I have mis-understood you, please clarify this for me.
    Thanks!!

  • IPhone calls via Mac not possible: I can't make phone calls on my Mac (via iPhone) although I am able to receive and accept those from others.

I can't make phone calls on my Mac (via iPhone) although I am able to receive and accept those from others.
I have activated all relevant options in FaceTime (either on the iPhone or Mac) but without success.
    Mac > Yosemite 10.10
    iPhone (5) > iOS 8.1
After trying a call via the iPhone in the "Message App" on my Mac - it says "iPhone and Mac must be in the same network"...
They definitely are... also I have logged in with the same Apple-ID's, etc.
    Can anybody help?
    Zadek

Thank you for your reply. Unfortunately, it does not make a difference. It still shows "iPhone not available. iPhone and Mac have to be in the same network"
Are there any settings which are fundamental on the iPhone, I have activated:
    - iCloud Drive
    - FaceTime (FaceTime and iPhone Mobile Calls activated)
The only strange thing - on Yosemite I can activate mobile phone number AND email in FaceTime whereas I can activate just my email in the FaceTime app on my iPhone...
