Receive e mail but when trying a link screen freezes
I receive e mails but when using a link from the e mail screen freezes for 15minutes or so.
How to overcome?
I would focus on getting just one of these services running first--Gmail runs fine for inbound and outbound mail on my Yosemite/Apple Mail system. Let's check your outgoing Mail settings for Gmail:
Is the "Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP)" for your Gmail account (under Preferences/Accounts) set to a definition you made for Gmail, as opposed to some other e-mail service? And is "Use only this server" for this Gmail account checked?
Is this Gmail outgoing server definition (choose it via "Edit SMTP Server List") set according to the Google documentation (https://support.google.com/mail/troubleshooter/1668960?hl=en&from=13275&rd=1)?
On my system, under Account Information for my outgoing Gmail server settings, I have "smtp.gmail.com" as the Server Name and "TLS Certificate" set to None. Under Advanced, I have "Automatically detect and maintain account settings" checked, Port set to 465, "Use SSL" checked, "Authentication" set to Password, "Allow insecure authentication" unchecked, and my User Name (which includes the @gmail.com extension) and password. If you're using 2-step verification, you need an "app password" from Google instead of the one you'd type in a web browser. I've seen Mail drop this SMTP password setting if I don't save the configuration before editing a different account setup.
If you've made changes, save them and exit Mail, then restart it and verify the changes took hold.
There could also be an issue with redundant or corrupt entries in your Login Keychain (via Keychain Access) for your Gmail account, but I'd focus on the Mail preferences first.

I receive an error message when trying to link my iMessage account to my Apple ID. My phone syncs fine, just my Macbook doesn't work. Same issue with Facetime.
HI,
In effect this is a DNS block.
You can do it.
You need to be in an Admin Mac User Account that has non blank password.
Go to the Applications/Utilities folder and open Terminal.
You should see your shortname (the one under the Little House icon) followed by the $ symbol
Copy and paste the bold text below into Terminal after the $ symbol.
sudo pico /etc/hosts
This will load the file "hosts" into and editor that works in Terminal.
Use the arrow keys to get to the line with Verisign in it.
Now type the # symbol and it will be added in front of the character that is highlighted.
The # symbol is either Shift +3 or ALT+ 3 depending on your keyboard layout
Now use CTRL and O keys together.
This Saves the changes.
Quit Terminal.

I keep getting a Windows Mail error when trying to run the assistant on my pc, but I don't have any email programs open.
You could of course use Safari your default browser as a quick method of accessing gmail until you figure out the Firefox problem. (More than one browser may be used on a Mac or other computer).
Is this the only site you have problems with ? and does Safari work ok ?
Often this problem requires the page to be reloaded

I have no SEND button when I write an e-mail. I am receiving e-mails but cannot reply
Everything was fine this morning. I received and replied to e-mails. Then all of a sudden I went to write an e-mail. Wrote the e-mail but did not have a Send button, nor the toolbar that it was on. In fact the whole layout of "Write" looked different. I am still receiving e-mails but cannot reply to them. Why?
Many thanks - I now have a Send button and used it to send a reply to you.

I am not receiving the verification email when trying to add an email account
I am not receiving the verification email when trying to add an email account to facetime and iMessage. Is there something else I can do?
Hi,
I don't ever remember getting an email when Adding an account.
Apple seems to verify it some other way (a self test to see if it is valid ? an actual email ?)
I tried adding an older @mac.com account that is not a valid email (gained when MobileMe was the Apple service and the @Mac.com registration was used for iChat names).
I then tried to add a Yahoo one.
This got past the first part and said an email has been sent.
As you say this has never arrived.
( checked the web Site for Yahoo Mail as well as my Mail App.)
In each case I also checked the Spam and Junk folders in both places.
I then tried an iCloud ID.
(FaceTime seems to treat the Original Apple ID and the iCloud issued email as separate IDs)
I did not get and email (Although it said it was sent) I did get a Pop up for the FaceTime app asking if I wanted to add an email and a second for the actual email itself. (It turned out it added an @me.com email also issued by iCloud before the @icloud.com was issued.
This is much the way iMessages adds emails when you add the emails to an iPhone, the Mac version gets pop ups.
I recently had something similar in Messages that might be related.
In Messages 7 (Mountain Lion) it seemed it could be any Apple ID that was used.
In Messages 8 it seems this has to be an iCloud linked one.
The @mac.com one I used above could not be added to iMessages either when I tried it about two months ago.
It might be one I have removed the creating/Recovery email so that i could create another Apple ID.
The name continues to work in Messages as an AIM valid screen name but I could not add it as the iMessages account and got sent to iCloud to "register" it but ran into problems that I have not sorted out yet.
EDIT.
Checked the Apple ID site and the @mac.com email I used has no linked Alternative/recovery email.

837 - can receive e-mail but cannot send.
Hi guys,
I've just installed a 837 at restaurant. The client checks his e-mail via outlook. He can receive e-mail but gets errors when trying to send. Any ideas. Everything else works great.
Thanks in advance.Hi Guys,
The guru in our office that configured this router
says that he cannot figure out why we cannot send e-mail via outlook. I put the old router and cable modem back in at the site and we could send and receive e-mail via outlook fine. ( PPOE setup )
Put the Cisco back in and no luck.
This is the config file. If anybody can point me in the right direction to make the change I will try it at the site. We are using port 4 (10.100.100.1)to connect to a linksys for public internet access. He is behind the 192.168.100.xxx subnet.
Hope this helps.
Thanks in advance.

I just purchased an ipad2 and I can receive e-mails but I can't reply to or forward them. I also can't send a new e-mail. I receive a message that the e-mail has been placed in the outbox because the server won't allow 'relaying.' On my laptop, using the same e-mail server, I am fine. What can I do to make the ipad2 e-mail function properly?
Contact whoever manages your email server and ask them what ports and security to use for SMTP from remote locations. ISPs and email admins often require different SMTP settings when sending email when not connected to the server's or ISP's network.

receive error code 2349 when trying to install iTunes. Any idea what that code means and how to correct?
It's a better bet with a 2330, but the first thing I'd try with that is running a disk check (chkdsk) over your C drive.
XP instructions in the following document: How to perform disk error checking in Windows XP
Vista instructions in the following document: Check your hard disk for errors
Windows 7 instructions in the following document: How to use CHKDSK (Check Disk)
Select both Automatically fix file system errors and Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors, or use chkdsk /r (depending on which way you decide to go about doing this). You'll almost certainly have to schedule the chkdsk to run on startup. The scan should take quite a while ... if it quits after a few minutes or seconds, something's interfering with the scan.
Does the chkdsk find/repair any damage? If so, can you get an install to go through properly afterwards? -
Mail crashes when trying to send mail
I am able to receive and read mail but when I select send mail, it brings up a new window and then crashes before I can enter any information.
It also has large circles (approx. 3/4 inch) where it would normally list the number of new emails in a given account.

I use outlook for my e-mail on my home computer. I bought an iphone5 and set up mail I am receiving e-mails but cannot send. Not sure what my outgoing mail setting should look like on my phone.
When you set up the email account on your iPhone you probably did not set up the outgoing mail server correctly. Incoming and outgoing are two separate sets of settings. You need to set up both, and also enter your username and password for both.

Try this first - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.)
Or this - Delete the account in Mail and then set it up again. Settings->Mail, Contacts, Calendars -> Accounts Tap on the Account, then on the red button that says Remove Account.

I cannot send mail from Firefox. Can receive E-mail but cannot send it. This worked OK until today. I have had firefox for many years. Just reinstalled Mozilla and still cannot send E-mail from firefox.

Any error message provided and if so, what?
Are you also accessing an email account and SMTP server provided by SBCGlobal.net with either email client and if so, are you able to send messages with this account and SMTP server when connected to the internet via SBCGlobal.net at home?
And let me get this straight - both email clients work fine without any problems sending messages with your Office email account and SMTP server when connected to the internet at a friend's house that uses another ISP besides SBCGlobal.net but this is an Apple problem?
If an Apple problem, then you'd have problems sending messages with this account and SMTP server regardless whose network and ISP you are connected to.
Regardless what this more than likely under-trained or just unaware person at SBCGlobal.net told you, all ISPs have restrictions on using an SMTP server that is outside of their network or that isn't provided by the ISP used for connecting to the internet.
Some ISPs allow the use of an authenticated server only that is outside of their network but some block its use regardless.
Within the last year or so, SBCGlobal.net made a drastic change in regards to such restrictions and conveniently neglected to inform their customers beforehand. Those using an SMTP server that was outside of SBCGlobal.net's network regardless if the SMTP server was authenticated were required to "opt out" of Port 25 blocking with SBCGlobal.net in order to use an SMTP server that was outside of their network which was working fine before this change was made.
Have you opted out of Port 25 blocking with SBCGlobal.net?
