Receive file too big for email

For me, the most significant function missing from iCloud is the iDisk Public Folder option so clients can send me files which exceed email attachment size limits.
These are not files to be shared publicly, and most of my clients are governmental entities with restricted networks so users cannot join a file-sharing service, but they could simply upload files to my iDisk Public Folder.
Without Public Folder we're back to burning CD/DVD and snail mail.
Alternatives?

Dolby 2.0 and .aiff are both audio files - the .aiff is not compressed, but the Dobly 2.0 is an AC3 file and will be about a tenth the size of the other, and run at a far lower bitrate.
Compressor produces both files by default when you use 'All' with one of the pre-sets. If you don't want them both, remove one from the batch window, or create your own pre-set which doesn't include the unwanted version.
Dolby 2.0 refers to it being a stereo track with 2.0 channels, it isn't a later version of Dolby.
When the encoding is complete, bring both the video and the required audio (I suggest the AC3 for space and bandwidth) into DVDSP and use them in a track for authoring to DVD.

  • Keynote - files too big to email/share, looking for PDF resolution solution

Has anyone worked out how to change a keynote presentation PDF resolution when preparing for sharing? The file I get is too big to email (6 photos gave me 55mb) as it appears to retain the input resolution of the embedded photos?

If using Acrobat 9 Go To Document>Reduce File size.
If Using Acrobat X or XI to tot he tools sidebar and use Optimize for Web Distribution.
If you do not want to fool witht he pdf in any way then download Adobe Send Now app and use their free service or subscribe for a year for a whopping $29.95.
The free version allows you to upload files upt to 500MB there may be limitis to how many files you can upload it sends an e-mail to the parties you want to download the files and they simply follow the link and it downloads.
The paid version allows you to upload files as large as 2 GB and gives you 20GB of storage. I immediately myself purchased the paid version.
If you hppen to upgrade to the cloud then you get the paid version free.

  • Archived file too big for DVD

    Hello
I have created an archive file that looks to be 7.4 GB - obviously too big to fit on one DVD. Is there a way to put this file onto TWO DVD's, or do I have to try and make two files that are smaller in order to put them on DVD?
It doesn't look like the archive file is much smaller than the originals put together - there was an M4V (iPod movie - 163 MB), a disk image of the same (iDVD - 1.77 GB) and the original file from iMovie (6.6GB). I'm afraid that even if I split them up into two files, I won't be able to get the iMovie file onto one disk just by itself!
I really want them on a disk rather than an external hard drive - at the rate my son is making these movies, I'll have no space left really soon! Please help! Thanks.

"SuperDrive" is just Apple's term for their internal DVD writers. In the last couple of years, SuperDrives have been updated with DL-burning capability.
A "regular" single-layer DVD has around 4.7GB of capacity, which roughly translates to 90 minutes of video.
Commercial movie DVDs have long used the DL format, meaning that they can fit twice the length of video onto the disk. You will specifically need "DVD +R DL" disks to record this amount of data. Apple sells them, but you should also find them at good office stockists.
DVD players/readers can read both formats.

  • .mov file too big for posting on my website

i am using i-photo to create a slideshow. i've used photos that were 72 dpi on one slideshow and photos that were 300 dpi on another. i have about 55 photos on each slideshow. the 72 dpi slideshow is actually larger than the 300. what gives? i can't post either on my website for display. they are both too big (over 42mb). can anyone help me out on this and maybe give me some insight?
    thanks-
    i-Mac   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

    Hi GinaP,
Yes, the 55 images equaling 42mb sounds right. What is the limitation that you have?
There might be 2 ways to reduce the total file size.
1: You may need to reduce the resolution (dimensions and file size) of each image. You can do this in iPhoto, select image, use the Share > Export, make sure you choose the 'Scale images no larger than: insert a smaller dimension that original. This will reduce resolution which in turn will reduce the file size. I would create a new folder on your desktop, name it appropriately and export into this folder. Afterwards, just take the folder and drop into iPhoto, will import and make your slideshow... BTW - you can batch export and resize
2: If you want to keep same image dimensions but need to reduce the file size, you will need to use export function again, but then you can open your images in PREVIEW, use the SAVE AS option, you will notice a 'Quality' slide, move this to the left to 'shrink' images... and again import and make your slide show.
It's alot of work, but I know of nothing else you can do to reduce file size w/o downloading another App...

Add the recipient to your contact list and then drop the file onto their name in it. The Skype method is the same.

  • Scanned file too big to email

I scanned some papers into a PDF file which came out to over 30mb.  It is too large for me to email.  Is there a way to divide up the file into smaller files.

Or re-scan with a lower resolution.
However, the basic issue is that e-mail is not designed to transfer large data files.  Upload it to a 3rd-party server (e.g. Dropbox or Adobe Sendnow), then send the download link via email.  This also limits the possibility of email attachments getting damaged during the transfer.

  • Encore CS6 - File Too Big For Disk

My Computer Stats:  Imac 3.4Ghz,Core i7, 8GB Ram, About 2 years old.
My Project:  Standard Definition, 16x9 Aspect Ratio, About 4 hours of raw footage captured from dv tapes to external usb drive dock with a 500 GB drive in it, footage edited down in Premeire Pro CS6 to 1:55:00 and used Dynamic Link to bring the project into Encore to make a standard definition DVD. Rendering the ISO file to the desktop of the iMac.
I have done this process many times with projects of similar length.  Each prior time I was able to make a DVD.  I have tried many of the DVD Presets.  The lowest quality preset estimates the file size at 3.4 gig.  But the resulting file is 5.43 gig.  I have adjusted many of the Project Settings and Quality Setting, even setting the quality to its lowest setting.  The resulting ISO file will not get any smaller than 4.92 gigs. Too big to fit a 4.7 gig blank disk.
I have tied this process on the iMac listed above and on a Mac Mini.  Prior to this project I had not had any issues making DVD's on either machine. The only thing that is different and common to both machines is that I had installed Premeire Pro CC recently on both to test it out.  However this project was captured in PP CS6 and edited in PP CS6.
My client wants the DVD's he has paid for.  My deadline has passed.  Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

The first preset has been selected.
Okay; but that is why I want to see the project panel. You can "select" a preset in the edit panel, but not "select" it as the actual transcode setting.
The Transcode Settings panel, not the Edit Quality Presets panel, is where you actually set the preset to be used.

  • How to send a Pages document to others? The file is too big for emails.

I want to work the same Pages document with a team. What are the options to be able to send to them to edit back and forth? It's over 25MB and emails don't support large files.

Personally, if this were my team, I would standardize on Office for Mac 2011 update 14.4.7 (latest) and then everyone would be on the same page, without any of the Pages v5 feature deficit, document incompatibility, and productivity drop trying to make simple things work. The Word documents would be substantially smaller, and have better support for team edits.
    Regarding Pages…
Is the entire team on Yosemite, and will be signed into iCloud? If so, you can use Yosemite Mail's new Mail Drop feature which can support up to 5GB files. Read about Mail Drop in this article.
The next challenge is one of file compatibility among Pages users. If you use the default file format (Single File) written by Pages v5.5.1 on Yosemite, it cannot be opened by Pages v5.2.2 or earlier on Mavericks. You must instead, change that File type to Package and save it again. Pages v5.5.1 has File > Advanced > Change File Type, and a choice of Single File (default), or Package. Pages v5 documents originated on Mavericks can be opened in Pages v5.5.1.
If a member of the team is using Pages '09 v4.3, then any work performed in Pages v5 must be first exported to Pages '09 format. Any functionality used in Pages '09 v4.3 that is not supported in Pages v5 will be filtered out when opened in Pages v5.

  • Exported files too large for email loop

I work with an online writers critique group. Since the most recent update, all files that I exported from Pages to Word to email to the loop  have been rejected as being over 500KB.
While the critiqued documents are in Pages format, I see a Reduce File Size option in the dropdown menu. When I click it, I receive the message that all media files are at their optimum size.
    Does anyone have a solution?

I don't know of any way to reduce file sizes for Pages output other than to export them to PDF and then use Acrobat's file compression option to squeeze out the junk.  There also are other apps out there for compressing PDFs. There are apps for converting PDFs to Word.  However, I do not think the PDF loop will solve the problem.  When the stuff comes back into Pages or Word, the overhead of these apps will be added to the text.
My suggestion is for your group to switch to Acobat PDF for review.  We use Acrobat PDF files for reviewers.  That way we do not have to worry about what word processing app a reviewer has installed, including on iPads and other tablets.  Acrobat has extensive features for annotation and comment.  And, Acrobat has excellent file comparison, which is character accruate.
    I hop this is helpful.

  • 59 minute, 337 MB .mp4 file too big for DVD disc in iDVD 6???

Going crazy here!! I have several 59 minute TV shows that I would like to create a menu for & then burn on a DVD that I can then easily watch on my DVD player. The file was originally an .avi file in PAL format. I tried creating the menu using the 'Pass Through' theme and dragged one .jpg image to drop zone 2. I then used 'Add Movie' to create a drop zone, and dragged my 1st .avi file to it. Then, I checked the Project Info window and see that the DVD Capacity is already in yellow, saying it's at 3.3 of 4.2 GBs. Video Mode is NTSC (since I'm in the US), Aspect Ratio is Widescreen, Encoding is Best, Project Duration is 59:37 minutes, Motion Menus is 0:37, Tracks and Menus are both 1 of 99, and in the Media window my file is listed twice, once for video and once for audio.
I thought maybe the format or file type wasn't compatible. So, I then went back and used ffmpegx to re-encode my show twice. Both times to NTSC, once to .mov and once to .mp4. Tried it exactly the same way again for each, with exactly the same results.
I tried downloading Xilisoft's DVD Creator to see if it worked there. No problems AT ALL with the .mp4 versions. Was able to put 4 episodes on one disc on medium quality, but the menus leave a lot to be desired. I'd like to use iDVD. I've made beautiful Photo DVDs with it. What am I doing wrong???

    +What am I doing wrong???+
Did you switch to High Quality or Pro Quality encoding?

  • Video files too big for Vision W 30

I have movies that I converted to .avi files. They are 480x272 resolution. The problem is that any movie longer than hour 40 minutes (about GB) won't play through. For instance I converted a movie (about 2.5 hours, .7 GB), When I first look at the file on the Zen W it says 2:30 hours (or so), then after I start it, it shows hour 39 minutes and it only plays to that point and freezes. I have tried a few movies and always get the same result. What am I doing wrong?
Any help would be appreciated. I have been using iri'verter to convert. Fimware version .0.0.

An update: I don't even seem to be able to use MPEG Streamclip to convert the files. "unrecognizable file type."

  • 2 gigs of .mov files too big for dvd?

I have 3 .mov files that I want to burn to a dvd. Each individual file is approx 700 meg or so. When I try and add the first file, it appears that it takes up 3.9g of 4g. Dragging the 2nd file in gives me the "Project Duration Error"
"Your project exceeds the maximum allowed content duration. You will not be able to burn your DVD while your Encoder Setting is Best Performance. This can be changed in your iDVD Preferences."
Changing that pref allows me to get the 2nd file on the dvd, but I can't get the 3rd file on the dvd without idvd complaining. Is there really that much overhead to make a dvd? I would think that with < 2g of media there should be no problem burning a dvd..
BTW-I have made sure that I checked that project->project info and set the size to a single layer dvd....
seems really difficult for something SUPPOSED to be easy
thanks in advance for any help....

ahhh, that is the problem then. I have 3 movies, each one is approximately an hour, so that must be why...
On another note, does anyone know if another application will allow me to write the 3hrs of video on 1 dvd? We have DVD studio pro, I figured iDVD would be quicker/simpler to get up and running with, so that is why I tried using that first...
    thanks again

  • Is a 17GB mp4 file too BIG for Adobe Send ??

I have a file containing photo images, video and music files which have been mixed together using Corel Video Studio Pro X6 to form a "movie".
There are 18 separate chapters within the folder file, with the total file size being just under 17GB saved in mp4 format.
I now wish to share this "movie" file with recipients around the world (fellow travellers), and would like to know if Adobe Send is suitable, and if so, would I be able to send the entire file in one, or would I need to send the smaller individual files in blocks.??
    Cheers for any advice. AAABigDog

We don't support files that large. You would be advised to keep your files to less than a couple of GBs.
