Receive Mail Error?

I just installed Tiger on an older machine and when I configure the email I keep getting the message:
The POP server “pop.xxx.net” rejected the password for user “xxxx”
Please re-enter your password, or cancel.
I have quadruple checked the Server name, Username & password multiple times - deleted & recreated the account multiple times - had someone else do the typing - in case I was making the same mistake over & over again. Entered in a different accounts settings which are working perfectly on other machines. Double checked firewall & port settings - all other machines on the network work beautifully.
I can log into this account via webmail (using the user name & password I have specififed in Mail's settings) - but - cannot using Tiger's Mail (worked fine under Panther mail) but I did a complete erase and install on this machine so I didn't import settings).
Any suggestions on what I might be missing here would be appreciated -
Thanks -

    Timothy,
I'm in a similar situation. I'm trying to retrieve mail from a Domino POP3 server using the javamail package. I noticed that you have done this successfully using javamail. I can retrieve the message from the account but, the problem I'm having is when I try to process the multipart mime message. An exception is thrown when I try to get the part count in the MimeMultipart message.
    MimeMultipart mp = (MimeMultipart)message.getContent();
    int count = mp.getCount();
I get the following exception -
java.lang.NoSuchFieldError: javax.mail.internet.MimeMessage: field contentStream not found
         at com.sun.mail.pop3.POP3Message.getContentStream(POP3Message.java:114)

         at com.lotus.sametime.calendarserver.CalendarServer$Handler.run(CalendarServer.java:153)
         at java.lang.Thread.run(Thread.java:512)
When I inspected the message object in the debugger the parts vector was empty. It's like Domino didn't send me the mimemultipart with all the parts. Do you have any idea what's wrong or how I can debug this?
    thanks,
    -miles

Can not receive Mac mail -error Outlook cannot find the server. Verify the server information is entered correctly in the Account Settings, and that your DNS settings in the Network pane of System Preferences are correct.  Account name: "MacMail"
What are the correct mail account settings and more importantly the correct DNS settings
Thank you for any help you may be able to provide
    Cheers
    Chris (iMac i7)

Do not delete the old account yet. sign up for an iCloud account if you haven't.
I understand .mac mail will still come through. Do not delete the old account yet.
You cannot use .mac or MobileMe as type of Account, you have to choose IMAP when setting up, otherwise Mail is hard coded to change imap.mail.me.com to mail.me.com & smtp.mail.me.com to smtp.me.com, no matter what you try to enter.
iCloud Mail setup, do not choose .mac or MobileMe as type, but choose IMAP...
On second step where it asks "Description", it has to be a unique name, but you can still use your email address.
    IMAP (Incoming Mail Server) information:
              •          Server name: imap.mail.me.com
              •          SSL Required: Yes
              •          Port: 993
              •          Username: [email protected] (use your @me.com address from your iCloud account)
              •          Password: Your iCloud password
    SMTP (outgoing mail server) information:
              •          Server name: smtp.mail.me.com
              •          SSL Required: Yes
              •          Port: 587
              •          SMTP Authentication Required: Yes
              •          Username: [email protected] (use your @me.com address from your iCloud account)
              •          Password: Your iCloud password
Also, you must upgrade your password to meet the new criteria:  8 characters, including upper and lower case and numbers.  If you have an older password that does not meet these criteria, when you try to setup mail on your mac, using all of the IMAP criteria listed above, it will still give a server error message.  Go to   http://appleid.apple.com         then follow directions to change your password, then go back to setting up your mail using the IMAP instructions above.

    hi,
    1. create your directory configuration using directory wizard
and you'll be sure that everything will be ok
    2. make sure you use outbound asynchronous message interface (for mail)
    3. make sure you check quality of service to Exacly once

  • HT4863 I composed a response to an e-mail that came into my iCloud mailbox.  When I sent it out i received an error message.  Will I be able to retrieve the e-mail I composed?  If so what are the steps.  It is not in my drafts.

    Hi LeeJennie,
If your email didn't go out, you please check other mail boxes as well, including checking online with a browser.

  • I receive an error message when attempting to check my e-mail

I receive an error that it doesn't reconize my user name or password for the SMTP address, even when I did nothing to change the settings just a few hours before.   I tired to power off my phone, I checked my e-mail on my computer and it worked, and I tried to delete the account on my phone and set-up a new account.  I even changed my password on the account to see if that helped.
How do I trouble shoot this?

Thank you for the link and response.  I did everything on the link, but my iphone 4s still has the same error box  " Cannot Get Mail - The user name or password for ATT is incorrect".   I triple checked my password entry after removing the account and re-entering the account.  I was reading on another strand that some people have had issues with AT&T, but with their computers and no one seem to have found a resolution other than it happens and may go away and/ or it may reappear and unfortunately, AT & T apparently did not help and just blamed Apple.  I received your message when logged in on my computer so I know that the account is active and functioning.
If you have another suggestion I'd appreciate it, otherwise I guess I will see if it goes away by tomorrow before I try contacting an Apple Store/ AT & T/ Verizon representative.

  • Receiving bogus error message sending mail

    Hello all,
I've configured an Exchange ActiveSync account on my iPhone 3GS to connect to my IceWarp mail server (I turned SSL off btw).
It connects fine, my IMAP folders sync beautifully and I can receive mail without any problems.
However, when I attempt to send mail using this account (either to an external address such as GMail or an address on our mail server) I get the following error message:
"Cannot Send Mail: An error occurred while delivering this message"
Then the message sits in my outbox.
    HOWEVER... here's the kicker...
I actually receive the e-mail without any problems on my GMail account (or my own internal account I sent the test message to).
I don't know what's causing this incorrect error message to appear, but it's starting to drive me insane.
Any help on this would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks!

If anyone was still interested, the issue has been resolved.
It turns out, the iPhone was attempting to create a "Sent" folder and the mail server was claiming that the name was invalid. The server had a folder named "Sent Items" already on it to store the sent e-mails.
I re-named the "Sent Items" folder on the server to "Sent" and everything was fixed.
