"Error occurred while converting the file 'songname'. The required folder cannot be found."
CD/DVD ROM is no longer recognized until computer is restarted.
I have the same problem. I recently moved my music from a Vista PC to a new Laptop with an external CD drive. It will copy one song from the CD and it will show in the Music file and then I get the message ' Error importing a CD - Folder not found'. I must unplug the CD drive and plug it back in. I have seen no fix for this problem.

Choose Help > Check for Updates to make sure that you're using the latest version of Reader. You should have Reader 11.0.09.

I'm getting a couple of messages after importing a table through Dreamweaver into a page developed in Muse. I have compared the code of the page with the table with the page before I inserted the table and cannot find anything missing. the web address is http://gourmetdreams.com/weekly-menu.html

I imported the table into Muse, then exported the site as html and opened it in Dreamweaver. I should've tried that in the first place but gave up when I couldn't edit it in Muse. I didn't know you could edit the html right in Muse. Also, my styling and the images I was using weren't showing up in Muse but once I opened it in Dreamweaver, everything fell into place. AND I could edit it! My client needs to edit this page every week, so I needed to be sure she could do that. She doesn't use Muse but does use Dreamweaver. At this point, I think I'll leave it alone and not try to style it with inline css. Maybe when I get a little more time, I'll try it. I just don't want to mess things up now that the're working.

iTunes 10.6, running on a Mac Mini with OSX 10.6.8

A bit of backstory. Been using iTunes to manage my music collection for over 8 years. At one point, I moved my music off of a primary disk to an external disk, although perhaps oddly set up, in that the 'iTunes Music Library.xml' file was still local (under ~User/Music), and just the music files were external (under /Volumes/Media/Music). When the iTunes Media directory structure upgrade happened, the only way I could access my music was to put a soft link from the Music folder to my external drive.
For awhile now, I've been in a state where for the most part, I can listen to all of my music, but when I try to import a CD, I get the 'required folder cannot be found' error.
Help! Do I have to rebuild my file somehow? Edit the xml file directly?

I get this message when I try to import some CD's to my library.
A window pops up and says
Error occurred while converting the file "name of song"
The file name was invalid or to long.
Anyone else ever get this message, and how can you import CD's???????I have had this exact same problem. I'm not sure how to fix it...

While trying to import 3 different CD's into iTunes, the message "Error occurred while converting the file "song name. The required folder cannot be found." The song name is the first song of each of the CD's I tried to import. Have imported over 3,000 songs and never had this happen before. Help?
I think I found out why this happens. I am using an external hard drive, not sure if this is relevant, but I believe so. I went into iTunes and deleted the songs, and asked that they be deleted from the library as well. Got same message when I tried to re-import. Went on to the external hard drive, where library is located, and none of the songs had been deleted. Deleted the songs, as well as the albums folder, re-imported, no problems. Hope that helps.

Hi, I saw this issue in an archived discussion, and I just had the same problem, but figured out how to resolve it.
I think this error is a result of:
A) downloading a new version of iTunes, and;
B) storing my iTunes library on an external hard drive.
Because when the new version of iTunes was downloaded, I found that the destination folder for my iTunes music was no longer selected. Therefore, I was getting the error message: "Error occurred while converting the file 'song name'. The required disk cannot be found" when I tried to import CDs.
To fix: go to:
iTunes>Preferences>Advanced
and specify your destination folder for your music.
Just wanted to share!Thank you so much! I was in the same situation (iTunes library stored on external hard disk). Strangely, iTunes knew where my music was stored (i.e. if I clicked a song it would link to the library location and play with no problems). But in the "Advanced" settings, the location of my iTunes Library was blank. So I just pointed to the correct location and now everything is working OK! Thanks again.

In ITunes 12, while trying to import from CDs I keep getting this message "error occurred while converting the file "song name". The required folder cannot be found". It will import 2 or 3 or 5 songs and then this message. I have tried multiple CDs, a few seem to work fine, but most don't import completely.
I think I found out why this happens. I am using an external hard drive, not sure if this is relevant, but I believe so. I went into iTunes and deleted the songs, and asked that they be deleted from the library as well. Got same message when I tried to re-import. Went on to the external hard drive, where library is located, and none of the songs had been deleted. Deleted the songs, as well as the albums folder, re-imported, no problems. Hope that helps.

Importing CD's to iTunes fail with "The required folder cannot be found"
I have my iTunes library on an external drive. Everything works fine, except that I cannot import CD's into iTunes. When I try, I get the error "The required folder cannot be found". My work around currently is to:
1. Upfdate my preference for "iTunes Media Folder Location" to the standard location by clicking on the "Reset" button.
2. Import the CD
3. Copy the folder that it created with the songs to the correct location on the external disk
4. Update the preference or Folder Location back to my external library location
5. Double click on the first song where I get the message that it cannot be located
6. Locate it manually, and iTunes then searches for the others and fix the location.
This is extremely frustrating and impractical. I am on the very latest release and it is still happening. Does anyone know how to get around it?I have the same problem as pyzaptys' with the exception that there is no My Music folder in the default location. I created one but the iTunes install cannot see it. I used the tweakui as suggested in the response to the original post but the app does not see the My Music folder in the special folders selections.
I have tried many angles but to no avail.

Error occured while converting the file first song on CD . Required folder
Required folder cannot be found. There is not a network problem because Window media player can rip the CD and it is also writing to the Acer Home Server.
It is not a CD problem because Windows media player can read the CD and import just fine.
This just started suddenly. I had 3 new CDs to rip and the first ripped fine and then the errors came on the second and third. So I tried Windows Media to make sure the network and CDs were good. I have ripped dozens of CDs in the past week (since I got my iPod) with iTunes without any trouble and have not installed any software.
I found a "fix" on a website that involved MS Cachereset tool. I tried that but the tool will not allow you to change the cache. Probably the tool was designed for XP and I am running Window 7 Ultimate.
There is a 3rd party software that I guess I could use to sync Windows Media player with my iPod. But I actually like some of the features of iTunes better.
I would really appreciate any help.

DavidI did, sort of. the end of what would not fit in the subject is the first few words of the message. "Required folder cannot be found." That is all the rest of the message that there was. I got Apple support to call me (probably because I have a brand new iPod). They do not really know what the actual issue is/was. However, thru trial and error working with them for 1 hr & 45 mins, we found that creating a new folder for my iTunes media on the Home server worked. So I have copied my itunes media files to the new folder and pointed itunes to that folder then deleted the old folder. That seems to have fixed the problem for now.
Thru the trial and error we un-installed itunes and re-installed. We deleted the library. I am rebuilding the library now. My library is huge and will not finish being rebuilt until tomorrow. The point is that none of that worked and creating a new folder did work.

while updating the older version iTunes to latest one it shows "a network error occurred while attempting to read from the file: C:\windows\installer\iTunes64.msi. pls help on this matter to connect my i5 to PC. Thanks in advance
(1) Download the Windows Installer CleanUp utility installer file (msicuu2.exe) from the following Major Geeks page (use one of the links under the "DOWNLOAD LOCATIONS" thingy on the Major Geeks page):

(2) Doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file and follow the prompts to install the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. (If you're on a Windows Vista or Windows 7 system and you get a Code 800A0046 error message when doubleclicking the msicuu2.exe file, try instead right-clicking on the msicuu2.exe file and selecting "Run as administrator".)
(3) In your Start menu click All Programs and then click Windows Install Clean Up. The Windows Installer CleanUp utility window appears, listing software that is currently installed on your computer.
(4) In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any iTunes entries and click "Remove", as per the following screenshot:
(5) Quit out of CleanUp, restart the PC and try another iTunes install. Does it go through properly this time? -
in Itunes 10.7.3 I get a message: error occurred while converting file. You do not have the privilege to make changes. This just started and I can not import my cds. Any thoughts?
Do you have read& write permissions to your iTunes library?
