Received all my old emails after downloading update

I downloaded the ios5 update and got all my old emails back that I deleted

Delete the email account and add it back. When you add it back it will give you the option of how far back you want to sync. It sounds like it may have defaulted back to 'forever.'

Try a reset by pressing and holding the home and power buttons until the white Apple logo appears.
If the issue persists, delete the email account then add it back.

  • IOS7 mail downloaded all my old email.

How do I delete all this old email at one time? How do I stop this massive downloading?

After a frustrating time trying just about everything that was suggested both in these forums and others I decided this morning to try a 'workround'.  My email is via BT (UK) so went to source (yuk! BT Yahoo Mail), created a folder '2013' (I usually do this at the end of a year to archive everything) and moved all but the last couple of months emails to that.  Went back to ipad and all the supposed unread mail had disappeared.  I suppose now I should be brave and move it back out of the folder and into the inbox and see what happens but, to be frank, life is too short!
Apple still needs to sort this bug.  It shouldn't be this difficult.

When creating an antiquated POP account with a new email client, all received email that remains at the incoming mail server is downloaded as new and unread email.

  • IPhone 4 downloading old mail after iOS update

I have the mail app set up to download my comcast email. I have it set not to delete messages from the server because I still want them to download into outlook on my home computer. I have had it set up this way since the original iPhone and never had a problem. Now after installing the new iOS, it is downloading all my old emails over again. How do I make it stop doing this? I have not changed any settings. I only installed the new iOS that came out when 4s was released.

The phone will still download the most recent emails from the server. The number of recent emails it will download is in Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendar > Show [50 or 100 or 200] Recent Messages.

  • IPhone 5 downloads all my old emails

This has been stressed for many years and yet Apple does nothing about it. The only solution I have came upon was to set your POP email to delete email off the server. Or, make a separate folder on the server and place all the old emails into this new folder. This is just crazy. All the new phones on the market, except for Apple, has a feature that you can actually tell the phone that you don't want to download mail more than a week old. Come on Apple, fix this as this problem goes all the way back to 2008.
At this moment, my IPhone is still downloading over 1,000 emails that I cannot delete as I'm a tax accountant and need to keep emails for as long as 3 years since my practice is paperless office. Emails are important to me and I don't delete them unless I know for sure that it has nothing to do with my business.
Well I guess I'll spend some time deleting 3 years worth of emails off my new phone.

What steps have you done to try and fix the problem?

  • New Mac - Don't want Mail auto downloading all my old emails.

I am getting a new Mac and from previous experience, once you open Mail it automatically downloads all the old emails situated on your ISP's mail server.
As I have got these emails saved on my present computer I don't want all 1,500 of them downloading to my new Mac.
I could prevent it by deleting the emails on my ISP's mail server but I want to keep them there as an independent  backup.
Is there any way I can configure Mail to ensure that it only downloads new emails and not the old ones?

I've been mulling this over overnight and wanted to follow up.
The only thing I can think of is if your email is set up using the older POP technology, you could do this one of two ways:
1/ migrate your mail across, then from within the mail app, delete whats there (ensure your delete from server settings are switched to off - if only for this section).  This will tell the server that you've already downloaded the existing mail and it ill only download new emails.  IMPORTANT: this will only work for a POP Account.
2/ Again, POP only but you could alternatively redownload all the mail, and perform the #1 steps.
As for IMAP accounts, these by nature Sync with the server, so I think you're firmly out of luck.

  • How to stop iphone 5S from downloading all my old emails

How to stop iphone 5S from downloading all my old emails? I keep deleting the "latest"old emails and older ones just keeps popping up!

Well Thank you for everyone's help.  I contacted the service provider, who uses google to support their email.  If anyone else has this problem....with google supported email here is the solution.
    Go to your email account
    click settings
click "settings" (again) under the settings button
    click "forwarding and POP/IMAP"
under POP download click "enable POP for mail that arrives from now on"
    save changes
    Then go to your iphone
    erase your email account
    re-install your email account
now only new emails should show up on your phone, all your past emails will be saved at the server.

  • How can I stop all of my old emails from downloading to my new iphone?

When I upgraded to iphone 4S a few years ago, hundreds and hundreds of old emails suddenly downloaded to my iphone, and I couldn't stop it. I can't remember how I resolved the problem then -- but it is happening again with my new iphone 6. My badge is showing 1,000 new emails. How to I correct this?

Move your profile to that drive.
    See: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/profiles-tb

So the .ini file might read:
    [General]
    StartWithLastProfile=1
    [Profile0]
    Name=default
    IsRelative=1
    Path=E:\Z - THUNDERBIRD\Profiles
Is that correct for location of:
    E:\Z - THUNDERBIRD\Profiles

  • Weird: receiving and sending old emails

I am both receiving and sending old emails - from about a month ago.
Emails that I've previously received are turning up again in my inbox. They are flagged as newly received, but the send date is from about 6 weeks ago. No message appears more than once and they are appearing in the order they were originally sent.
In addition, my contacts are receiving emails from me again, also sent from that same period, about 6 weeks previously.
There's another thing. Often, an email will appear in the Outbox from nowhere. This can be either an email I previously sent, or an email I've previously received. When I delete it, it goes to trash. However, when I go to inbox, or another folder, then BACK to Outbox, another email will appear in its place.
    Weird, huh?
I've talked at length with my ISP about this and they've had me rebuild my account, only for the problem to persist.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks!

Some if not all the problems you’ve described are caused by some index corruption (which in turn might be caused by some filesystem corruption) that makes messages to randomly appear in a mailbox different from where they’re supposed to be. If that mailbox happens to be Outbox, Mail thinks the messages are waiting to be sent and dutifully proceeds to try to send them.
Verify/repair the startup disk (not just permissions), as described here:
The Repair functions of Disk Utility: what's it all about?
After having fixed all the filesystem issues, if any, and ensuring that there’s enough space available on the startup disk (a few GB, plus the space needed to make a backup copy of the Mail folder), try this:
    1. Quit Mail if it’s running.
    2. In the Finder, go to ~/Library/Mail/. Make a backup copy of this folder, just in case something goes wrong, e.g. by dragging it to the Desktop while holding the Option (Alt) key down. This is where all your mail is locally stored.
    3. Locate Envelope Index and move it to the Trash. If you see any other “Envelope Index”-named file there, delete it as well.
    4. Move any “IMAP-”, “Mac-”, or “Exchange-” account folders to the Trash. Note that you can do this with IMAP-type accounts because they store mail on the server and Mail can easily re-create them. DON’T trash any “POP-” account folders, as that would cause all the mail stored there to be lost.
    5. Open Mail. It will tell you that your mail needs to be “imported”. Click Continue and Mail will proceed to re-create Envelope Index — Mail says it’s “importing”, but it just re-creates the index if the mailboxes are already in Mail 2.x format.
    6. As a side effect of having removed the IMAP account folders, those accounts may be in an “offline” state now. Do Mailbox > Go Online to bring them back online.
Note: For those not familiarized with the ~/ notation, it refers to the user’s home folder. That is, ~/Library is the Library folder within the user’s home folder, i.e. /Users/username/Library.

  • Mac mail received all my old mails

mac mail received all my old mails from outlook server, but i only want to receive the recent 50 mails just like the mail app in my iphone, and i don't want to waste the storage of my macbook.
    how can i do that.
    thanks

Though the original question is old, people are still viewing it when they need help with the problem.
    I found this possible solution:
Apple Mail - Removing Messages from the Server
To have your Apple Mail remove messages from the server when you check mail (using POP), you will follow these steps:
After opening the Apple Mail program, click on "Mail" from the menu at the top.
    Click on "Preferences"
Click on "Accounts" (the @ symbol)
If you have more than one mail account, select the one you want to work with
    Click "Advanced"
Make sure the box next to "Remove copy from server after retrieving a message" is checked.
You can also remove messages currently saved on the server by clicking the "Remove now" button.
Click "Save" when you close the Preference pane
Using "Remove copy from server after retrieving a message" will make sure your messages are always downloaded to your Mac, and prevent your mailbox quota from being exceeded.

  • I can no longer receive short videos in iMessage after downloading iOs7 on my iPhone 4 it says "Downloading", only 4.3MB in size

I can no longer receive short videos in iMessage after downloading iOs7 on my iPhone 4 it says "Downloading", only 4.3MB in size

I had the same problem today and was able to resolve it without having to do a restore or reset. The problem had something to do with my mail accounts. The upgrade reset my mail settings, switching both my gmail and my .mac mail to "archive all mail". I went into the General Settings, disabled that setting, and resynced the phone. The "other" storage allottment dropped back down to less than a gig.
Before you restore or reset, I would try that first.
