Received back from repair - wierd startup issue

I just got back my macbook from repairing the plastic, but now it starts up alot differently:
When it starts up (and shuts down), there is a bunch of text, showing a bunch of stats or something, reminds me of starting up a pc. How can I change this back to a clean startup?
Also, there is no longer that 'bing' whenever I start it up. The startup sound is nowhere to be found!
Is there something wrong? Can I change it back?
Thanks!
MacBook 2.0 - 2GB RAM - 100GB HD   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

Hi,
I have never heard of an Apple not making the "Bing" sound when it starts up. The text is also very odd, and seems a lot like what a Windowz box would do. I would call AppleCare and see what they have to say. That sounds like something may be wrong with the computer, or some testing software is still left on the computer from the repair center. (You would think that these machines would be tested before they were sent back after being fixed.) Hope this helps.

  • Got iPOD back from repair in worse condition

    Hello,
I just got my iPOD back from repair due to a defective LCD screen. I had kept my iPOD pretty well taken care of and kept it in a silicone rubber iPOD glove type thing. It had some smudges and scrates on the back and the front when i shipped it. During the servicing i was told they were supposed to clean it well they didnt clean my iPOD and they shipped it back in a box where the thing would shake and roll around. Also on the back of the iPOD where the chrome is the brilliant minds who worked on it decided to put the stickers on the back there and i took them off and had sticky crap all over my iPOD where the stickers had been. I paid $300 for an iPOD that shouldnt have these problems in the first place and i paid for the extended warrenty for situations like this this and im NOT happy with what i have paid for. I would at the very least like a new iPOD to copensate for this issue.
    Thanks,

  • MB back from repair but with a new problem

I got my white MB back from repair today. The top case has been replaced because of the discoloring issue, but now the click botton only works in the middle and seems to be loose in both sides.
So I'm thinking that I have to send it back?
I must admit I'm getting really tired of this MB!

Michelle: If you sent it through an Apple Store, insist they have it sent to the store after the repair, instead of to you directly. That way they have to check it before you pick it up.
My experience w/ Apple's repair depot (Flex) has been bittersweet--they've done some repairs so well that you can't tell it's been touched, others, quite the contrary.
From what it sounds like, it's not the replacement of the top-case, but the top-case they replaced it with. Maybe not a "repair quality" issue, but part quality.

  • My macbook is back from repairs. It is not working with my apple led cinema display. It was working prior to the repairs on the laptop. Is there a setting I don't know about that might have been changed?

My macbook pro is just back from repairs.  It is not working with my apple led cinema display. I have followed the directions in the cinema display manual.  am I missing something?

Take a look at the Displays preference panel to see if everything is ok, particularly the resolution and refresh rate.  Displays will probably try to put the panel for the ACD on the ACD where you won't see it.  So click "Gather Windows" to get the ACD panel on to your macbook.
One more thing, make sure you fully seated the mini displayport plug.  They can be sneaky little devils in that they need to be fully pushed in.

  • Mac -Mini running at 100C CPU temperature after receiving back from servic

    Hello,
I just received back my Mac-mini from Apple service.
As other users reported, the fan was going mad, running at full speed all the time. By using: http://www.bresink.de/osx/TemperatureMonitor.html
I could see that the temperature-sensor connected to the heat-sink did not show up in the list of sensors. Service replaced the main board, and now the heat-sink sensor shows reasonable readings, and the fan is running silent, at least with no work load.
However, while performing a little web browsing, I found that the fan still goes wild.
What I noticed: The "TemperatureMonitor" utility reports that the CPU core temperature goes up beyond 100C/212F, even under mild work load, while the CPU heat sink is still reported at moderate temperatures around 35 C/95F !??? Environment temperature is below 30C.
Before I give away my MAC for another week or two, I would like to check whether this is usual behavior. Other users report max CPU temp of about 80-90C. Intel specifies max core temperature of 100C. According to the digital thermometer build in, my MAC sometimes exceeds this max spec by Intel.
Is this usual behavior, or did Apple service not properly install the heat sink after service, such that the CPU is only running with limited cooling ??
    Thank you for your suggestions

Mac Mini 1.5GHz core solo   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

Only an internal investigation would show whether the heatsink was correctly reinstalled, but quite clearly since the temperature being reported is at the operational limit specified for the processor, what you are experiencing is not in any way 'usual'. There are sites with content such as flash animations, which can cause high CPU load and thus push system temperatures up and cause the fan to spin up, but not for prolonged periods of course.
Since the fan is running up to full speed on your mini as a result of the temperature rising, it is clearly not an issue with MacOS or the fan control cable, and as such I would urge that you return your system to the service provider with a description of the problem and a list of website addresses you have visited which causes these problems so they can set about replicating the issue.

  • MacBook just back from repair, whining now?

    Hello Everyone,
My Macbook suffered from that awful discoloration issue, and I sent it in a month ago to get the case replaced. While it was there, the Apple people said that they needed to replace the logic board too...
So it took them a whole month to get it back to me. And now, finally - I just plugged it back in! But, now, to my dismay, there is an awful squealing whenever the power supply is plugged in. What the **** is this all about? Is there a solution? Should I send it back!?
    - Alex
Macbook   Mac OS X (10.4.9)   1.83Ghz Core Duo, 2GB ram

If you send it back you'll probably get another whiner. It's annoying, but typical for MacBooks (MBPs too). The whining is caused by the CPU saving power (if I'm correct) when it's hardly being used.
Try to not let it get to you and in a while you won't even hear it anymore. I'm speaking from personal experience. I'll sometimes hear it when I'm in a really quiet room studying or during lectures/seminars at college. I let it go.
Just enjoy your fixed MB !
    Billy.

  • I-pod mini back from repair

Just got it back from second repair - battery faulty this time - click wheel first time - wont' charge , wont even come on!
"How crap is that?" (as my daughter said, its her machine - I have more sense than to own one!!)
Does anybody have any ideas short of getting it an early visit to meet its maker via a large sledgehammer!
    i-pod mini

Does the iPod do anything at all, or is the screen blank, no matter what you do?
Have you tried doing a quick reset? This can be done by holding down the Select and Menu buttons together for about 5 seconds.
See this Apple Support document for full reset instructions.
Also, try doing a reset with and without the iPod plugged into a power source if one method doesn't work.

  • My computer will not connect with the store online. Just got it back from repairs. Any Ideas?

Can't connect online. Just got it back from Best Buy for virus removal. Have no clue what to do.

Take it back to Best Buy. They're the ones that charged you for removing something that doesn't exist.

  • Just got my MBP back from repair and VERY confused...

    Good Afternoon,
Well, I just picked up my beloved MBP 2.2GHZ SR / 128MB Video Ram 8600GT from repair after a LCD / Logic board / Top case replacement under warranty.
When I powered it up to test things, I went to System Information and my Mac stated it was a 2.6GHz SR / 256MB Video Ram 8600GT / 800Mhz FSB.
Am I just really confused or did I get a serious upgrade wih this repair?
    Thanks in advance!
    DebtManWalking

maybe it was cheaper for apple to replace with an equivalent/better model than fix the old one, the warranty terms allow for this
