Received Mail has wrong timestamp

This has been discussed before (and archived), but it hasn't been resolved.
I am using MacMail (I don't have a .Mac account), POP3 incoming, SMTP outgoing.
I just switched from 10.3.9 to 10.4.4, and the timestamp on all my incoming mail is now displaying incorrectly. It is displaying in GMT, not my time zone (Central).
I opened Long Headers and can see that the timestamp on the message is given in GMT. However, I don't think it's my server's responsibility to translate that to the correct time zone - that's the responsibility of my computer's OS, since the OS knows what time zone I am using. (My server doesn't.)
Thus, this isn't a server problem, it's an OS problem. If someone official answers this, please tell me what the fix is for Tiger.
Thanks,
David

David, Apple, and others,
I have the same situation, and I've duplicated it using several Macs. Apple changed how Tiger's Mail 2.x displays the received time (compared to how Panther's Mail 1.x did). Apple needs to revert to how Mail 1.x adjusted the received time to your time zone.
Apple says that received time is when the mail server received the message. Great. That's no excuse not to convert the time to the time zone that your computer uses.
Until someone fixes it, you can change your view to display date/time sent, and not the received value. Or you can use a different email client.

  • Mail has wrong path for Save

I am using v. 7.1 of Mail under OS X 10.9.1. When I attempt to save an email to my Documents folder I get an error message:
Could not save to path /Users/bob/~/~/~/~/~/~/~/~/~/~/Documents/Payment submitted.rtf. Choose a different path.
Clearly Mail has a bad pathname for the Documents folder. TextEdit documents save properly to Documents. Terminal shows the path to Documents as: /Users/bob/Documents
What is going wrong with Mail?
    Bob

Agreed.  I get a completely different wrong path, but only (so far) when I try for Documents.  Seems like a bug. Good catch.

  • Mails in Mail have wrong Timestamp

    Hello Communitiy
I had a problem with my Mail, the Mails weren't downloaded, so i decided to rebuild the Index with "Mailbox > Recovery". After the rebuild, 50% of my Mails had a wrong Received Timestamp (the Timestamp from 50% of the Mails where set to the Timestamp where the rebuilding Process finished).
I tried to recover my System from a TimeMachine Backup, but I had no lick. After opening Mail the first time, the rebuild/index process started, and again 50% of the Mails the Timestamp was set to the Timestamp after the Indexin-Process finished.
I found in the Logs following entry:
    30.01.14 06:59:50.883 Mail[3607]: Unable to parse date: "So Okt 02 08:03:17 2011"
    Stripped string: "So Okt 02 08:03:17 2011"
    Can anyone help me?
    Best Regards
    Patrick

i'm having similar issue.  huge amounts of my "archived" mail are now have a recent date incorrectly applied.
the problem is pretty easy to reproduce and demonstrate in mavericks.   for example, if you dig down into one of the mailbox folders until you find files containing individual message (.emlx files), you can preview them (with quick look - i.e., space bar in the finder).   this will generate a parse error viewable in console.   the preview of the message shows it has having no date.    inspection of the text file shows a date header like this: "Date: Thu Feb 13, 2003  5:22:20 PM US/Eastern", which to my eye appears to be out of spec wrt RFC 2822.
according to that spec, allowable time zone specs are of the form of the GMT offset expressed as a string consisting  of a '+' or '-' followed by a four digit offset.    there is also legacy support for "obsolete" timezone specs of certain legacy timezone formats such as "EST", etc. but not a full string like "US/Eastern".   also the standard does not seem to allow 12-hour time format, nor a single-digit hour format.  thus "5:22:20 PM" is not allowed and should instead be written as "17:22:20".
the mail in question may have originated on some other system.   it was likely originated on a non-mac system.   however, i know that the same files were handled correctly by earlier versions of mail.app (than my current version, 7.3).
i will probably try using a perl script or something to go through and re-write the dates to conforming values, then see if doing a "rebuild" would correct the problem.   shouldn't be necessary to do this, however.   within reason, i think no version of apple mail should ever fail to process an earlier version of apple mail's files.   apple should have plenty of data to use for regression testing this kind of stuff.    if they are going to break compatibility, then they should provide a translator or import utility or something rather than just leaving people hanging.
the irony is that when i encountered this bug, i was trying to bring in mail not from some old dusty osx box from 2001, but instead from  5-day old backups of my current/personal machine that i just lost, also running the latest versions of mavericks/mail.

I have 3 mail accounts in apple mail. One of them has had the spinning ball going for several days and I cannot receive mail in this account or delete messages etc. For some  reason, I CAN send mail on Apple mail using this account, although it takes several minutes. I can receive mail in this account on my iPad and by signing into aol on safari and internet explorer on my office PC. It's obviously a glitch in Apple's Mail. I've deleted this account and reopened it in Mail on my Mac Pro with no difference. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated, this E amil account is major to my business.

sounds like a corrupt database or index
the glitch is your home folder and mail folder, esp look at syncservices

My Mac has stopped receiving mail. I have a mac.com address. Mail is still coming through to my iphone and my wife's ipad but nothing is coming through to my imac.I have mail from half an hour ago on the phone but nothing newer than 18 Feb on the mac. Everythng was working fine until recently and I have not touched any settings! Can anyone help?

So I tried something else recently and it seems to have fixed the issue. My mail is now getting new mail again and refreshing after waking from sleep without having to restart mail. Give it a try and hopefully it will help you too.
First, make sure your Mailbox List is visible (Shift + Control + M). Then select all of your inboxes, mailboxes, and folders (not just the root folder for nested folders, make sure to select them all). Then under the "Mailbox" menu, select "Rebuild."
It may take a while to rebuild them all if you have a lot, but like I said it seems to have done the trick for me. I hope that proves to be more of a long-term solution.

I am currently volunteering in Uganda, so data is precious. I can no longer afford unlimited data, I pay by MB/GB. All of a sudden Mail has stopped receiving. I wait until about 60meg, but no new mail. Using Gmail. Connectivity Doctor says connected fine. No probs there. And weirdly, when I want to send an email. I write it, it takes absolutely ages to try to send but as soon as I click disconnect it sends the email. Very odd. I would just love to be able to write all my emails offline and save to drafts/Outbox and then just connect to send and check emails then disconnect again.

I can see that this issue has been quite extensive, and frustrating, and I am so sorry for all that has happened societygirl! I would like to help you work this issue out. • In my 16 gb iPhone 5, Mail has used up 5,6 gbs of memory.  Trash is empty and there are a few mails in my accounts with no attachments.  What's wrong?

In my 16 gb iPhone 5, Mail has used up 5,6 gbs of memory (and is increasing).  Trash is empty and there are a few mails in my accounts with no attachments.  What's wrong?

These are Apple's tips on this:
Will not turn on, will not turn on unless connected to power, or unexpected power off
Verify that the Sleep/Wake button functions. If it does not function, inspect it for signs of damage. If the button is damaged or is not functioning when pressed, seek service.
Check if a Liquid Contact Indicator (LCI) is activated or there are signs of corrosion. Learn about LCIs and corrosion.
Connect the iPhone to the iPhone's USB power adapter and let it charge for at least ten minutes.
After at least 15 minutes, if:
The home screen appears: The iPhone should be working. Update to the latest version of iOS if necessary. Continue charging it until it is completely charged and you see the battery icon in the upper-right corner of the screen. Then unplug the phone from power. If it immediately turns off, seek service.
The low-battery image appears, even after the phone has charged for at least 20 minutes: See "iPhone displays the low-battery image and is unresponsive" symptom in this article.
Something other than the Home screen or Low Battery image appears, continue with this article for further troubleshooting steps.
If the iPhone did not turn on, reset it while connected to the iPhone USB power adapter.
If the display turns on, go to step 4.
If the display remains black, go to next step.
Connect the iPhone to a computer and open iTunes. If iTunes recognizes the iPhone and indicates that it is in recovery mode, attempt to restore the iPhone. If the iPhone doesn't appear in iTunes or if you have difficulties in restoring the iPhone, see this article for further assistance.
If restoring the iPhone resolved the issue, go to step 4. If restoring the iPhone did not solve the issue, seek service.

  • HTM attachment in a mail has a wrong format/characters in IE

    Hello guys.
When receiving mails from the ECC6 system, the HTM attachment opened with Internet Explorer has a bad formatting and strange characters.
I'm not an ABAP developer, so I would like to understand if this has something to do with the ABAP code creating the attachment (this is a Unicode System) , or with the browser.
Can anybody help me to identify the problem?
    Thanks a lot, ciao

Yes, Please check with  ABAPer .

  • My mail has stopped sending. I can receive but I can't send.

My mail has stopped sending, even though I can still send via my iPod. Mail on my iMac can receive but not send. I've tried deleting the talktalk account and starting a fresh, but it's not made any difference. This has just started to happen, I was sending quite happily until now. Does anyone have a solution?
I get a message saying: Cannot send message using the server smtp.talktalk.net:(followed by my email address)

I would think that at the very LEAST you would be eligible for a COMPLETE refund of ALL charges for insurance paid thru Verizon!  They were charging you for something you were ineligible for!  Verizon has a record of whether or not you purchased the phone from them - otherwise how could they deny the claim!
It very sad to see how customer service and customer satisfaction has been lost here ... !

  • My mail has just crashed I cannot send or receive emails through my mac mail.

  • TS3276 I have my email set up, I can send, but I cannot receive mail.  What could be wrong ?

I have my email set up, I can send, but I cannot receive mail.  What could be wrong ?

SMTP is the protocol used to send mail, where IMAP and POP are the protocols used to receive mail.  ISPs can have different servers for these protocols.
In this case, the specified receiving (IMAP or POP) server, or the receiving user and password credentials, are likely incorrect.
What does the Connection Doctor diagnostic tool report?
Mail.app's Window menu > Connection Doctor
To check or change the settings, select Mail.app's Mail menu > Preferences... > Accounts and select the account you need to edit in the left column.
The receiving information will be displayed for the selected Account, with either POP or IMAP shown.  Confirm with the ISP that your POP or IMAP mail settings are correct per the ISP's recommendations, as well.   And in general, IMAP is preferable to POP, if you have the option of using either of those with your ISP.
