Received mail not showing up in folder

A while back I reformatted my drive. I backed up all my data to an external drive. Then copied it back afterward. Everything went fine except my old received mail doesn't show in my Received folder. I can find the old mail and open it up and read it, how do I get it to populate in my Mail application?
Thanks

try rebuilding the mailbox file, if you haven't already done so.
in the mailbox pane, selecte the mailbox you want to rebuild in the list of email boxes (e.g inbox, etc.).
then select the last menu item "rebuild" in the mailbox menu with the mailbox still selected.
i believe that you can use rebuild only when a single mailbox is selected, and not multiple mailboxes...
each mailbox has a "info.plist" file, which i believe is an index of the messages with the metadata from the messages... if you look in ~/Library/Mail/Mailboxes, you can see these files and the individual messages... i believe that "rebuild" will make the mail program scan the message files and rebuild the plist file...
at least technique this has worked for me...
good luck-

  • Mail not showing in any folder...!!!

The mail database where all the mails are stored (documents and settings/application data/thunderbird), that folder size is more than 14 GB. but no mail showing in thunderbird.

One of the hints in [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Disappearing_mail Disappearing mail] may help.
Otherwise you could please give more information to better understand your problem, like what you did before mails stopped showing etc.

  • Mail - IMAP folders not showing up in folder list

I have several mac mail imap folders and a few of them are not showing all imap folder - yet I can use move to folder to move emails to that folder.  Any ideas?

Check on the IMAP settings (Gmail.com) that Pop is disabled.
It should be in the IMAP/Mail forwarding section.
When it is enabled, folders do not show up in mac mail

  • Disable remote control IR receiver is not showing up in system pref.

My remote for my iMac is not working. I originally thought it neeeded a new battery but that was not it. I had a power outage the other night and since then have been noticing the problem.
    The apple support says;
    'To turn on IR reception:
Open System Preferences and click Security.
Deselect "Disable remote control infrared receiver.'
When I go to system preferences and then security, the option to 'disable remote control infrared receiver' does not show up.
Yesterday I restarted and the option came back, this morning after turning my computer on it wasn't there again. Any idea how to resolve this problem for good?
    Thank you
    Dan

The next time you notice the line gone from the System Preferences, open up your System Profiler (from the /Applications/Utillities/ folder) and check to see if the "IR Receiver" is listed under the USB section in Hardware.
If it doesn't appear there, then perhaps you're having some kind of failure of your receiver? If it does appear there, then it would seem more likely that you're having some kind of preference file or setting problem.

  • How can I receive mail not addressed to me?

This is a security question. Have any of you been receiving mail not addressed to you?
Lately, after the installation of MacOSX 10.4.10 on her G4 PowerBook, a family member has been receiving letters in Apple Mail not addressed to her. Had they arrived by mail, they should have been moved to her Junk Folder by her junk filter.
At first this alarmed me greatly (well, it still does): I removed her computer from the internet & performed examinations for break-ins; for I believed these letters were not mailed, but inserted into her inbox. Because she doesn't believe in security, I was limited to examining logs, and scanning her computer in firewire target disk mode. Both MacScan and ClamXav revealed nothing.
Puzzle 1: About a month ago, there appeared a finder image (happy blue face) at the bottom of her desktop (which is a unique grey-green designed by me). This disappeared in a day or two, at 5:00p on the dot, suggesting an application was involved. When I checked the logs at the exact date & time of desktop photo switches, there was an hiatus (which could have been natural).
Puzzle 2: Today she again received a letter not addressed to her, but to '[email protected]'. (I sent a letter from a mail alias to this address, but it did not appear in her mailbox.) The letter, by the way, was a phish from Germany, so I reported it immediately to Spam Cop. An addendum to this question contains the header of this letter, with the real person's name replaced by [email protected]. (Nothing here need be removed by a moderator.)
Has anyone an explanation for either of these puzzles? I think they're both important. (Before the internet was released upon the public, Postmasters would read the recipient and subject lines of dead letters, then forward them to whoever they thought it was for. 'Krystal2' has no relation to 'correctname', so that's unlikely.) Also, my wife has allowed me to secure her computer better, and no problems similar to 1 or 2 has ever appeared. Thanks very much for any ideas!

    David,
Sorry, migraine over the holidays. Thank you: you're right! The reason I don't get any like this is because the SPAM must apparently use RFC822. This protocol appears deprecated. It appears stamped on some mail initially sent by Apple, but not others.
Thank you very much, for these have been concerning me. I'm used to seeing my name stamped by each relaying computer. A test letter I sent from my local ISP with a BCC to myself at a school across the country stamped my name at each step.
Your first sentence is slightly ambiguous. In my opinion, any problem whose only explanation at the moment is a security breach is then a security problem, and should be treated immediately as such. The Finder's image is still one.
    Thanks again.

  • Mail not showing new messages on 10.8.3

Mail not showing new messages on 10.8.3, but messages show just fine on iPhone. Nothing changed to make this happen, not sure where to start. Thanks.

    Back up all data.
Select the problem mailbox in the mailbox list, then select
    Mailbox ▹ Rebuild
    from the menu bar.

  • Apple mail not showing all the messages?

In Apple mail, for my icloud account, I have some mailboxes which show the wrong number of messages, it shows too few.
As an example, a mailbox contains 150 messages, but apple mail reports there are only 146.
I rebuilt the mailbox and let apple mail do its thing. In the activity window I can see there are 150 messages. Yet, once apple mail has finished rebuilding the mailbox, it still tells me there are 146 messages. What's going wrong? Why would apple mail not show all the messages while in the activity window it clearly shows it knows there are 150?

    Solved!
This was too weird to be real. Apple mail does not show messages it believes to be duplicates, and buy, does it make big mistakes in deciding what are duplicate messages and what not! Some of my mailboxes had over 100 "duplicates" not showing according to apple mail.
I found a solution thanks to this topic:
    https://discussions.apple.com/message/18265121#18265121
    defaults delete com.apple.mail AlwaysShowDuplicates
does yield an error in 10.8.2 ( Domain (com.apple.mail) not found. Defaults have not been changed. )
defaults write com.apple.mail AlwaysShowDuplicates -bool true
    Does work brilliantly though!

  • SMTP sent mail not showing up in sent mail folder

    Hello,
    Setup:
    Exchange 2010 SP1
    Outlook 2010
C# for sending mail, or Pentaho Kettle
Not really sure how to explain, but I have the following scenario:
Automatic programs send email using credentials (an active username / password on the domain. account linked to a mail box).
    Mail gets sent.
Mail does not show up in the sent mail folder of the account
I was wondering if there was a parameter on the Exchange server to configure so that the email sent via SMTP would show up in the sent mail box of the account.

  • Sent mail not showing in folder

    Greetings,
Our Mac has three email accounts. For the last two days, one of the accounts does not show sent mail in the sent folder. The other two accounts are working properly. I have reviewed the MobileMe settings and the Preferences on Mac Mail and can't find the issue.
The accounts are all MobileMe (IMAP) accounts and accessed via iPad, iPhone and Mac, but no device is showing sent mail since Monday.
    Any suggestions?

Quit Mail. Force quit if necessary.
Back up all data. That means you know you can restore the Mail database, no matter what happens.
Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
    ~/Library/Mail/V2/MailData
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. In the Finder, select
              Go ▹ Go to Folder
from the menu bar. Paste into the box that opens by pressing command-V, then press return.
A folder window will open. Inside it there should be files with names as follows:
              Envelope Index
              ExternalUpdates.storedata
Move those files to the Desktop, leaving the window open. Other files in the folder may have longer names that begin as above. Move those files, if any, to the Trash.
Relaunch Mail. It should prompt you to re-import your messages. You may get a warning that the index is damaged and that Mail has to quit. Click OK. Typically, the process takes a few minutes, but it may take hours if you have gigantic mailboxes. In that case, you may be able to speed things up by temporarily adding your home folder to the Privacy list in the Spotlight preference pane. Remove it when Mail has finished importing.
Test. If Mail now works as expected, you can delete the files you moved to the Desktop. Otherwise, post your results.

  • Mail not showing in mail box

For three days, I was not receiving any email.  I talked to my email provider and they found that my email was being forwarded to another unknown account.  I called that email provider and learned that the email address supposedly receiving my emails has not been in service since 2004. My email provider has stopped forwarding my email to the bogus account. I have created my own gmail account and now have my email fowarded to the new gmail and have deleted my old account from my mac.  HOWEVER, I now see email activity in the lower left corner of the mail window saying messages are being sent and received--in large numbers, but they are not showing up anywhere on my mac.  When I compare what I am receiving in my mac mail account to what is on the gmail server, they all match up.  Why I am getting this activity? Where would it be coming from?

Perhaps you can tell me how to restore my old emails from my old email account.
If you moved your backup folder for that account (not the entire Mail folder) into the Home/Library/Mail folder, the next thing you need to do is launch Mail and setup that Gmail account again. But before you can do that, you need to login to the Gmail web interface and change your password to something secure (something that cannot be guessed, preferably at least 27 characters long and using a string of random characters). I use 1Password to generate these, but you could also use LastPass, which is free.
If you don't use one of those password managers, copy the new password, paste it into a Sticky Note or TextEdit and save it.
After you've done that, then setup the Gmail account in Mail again, and after you've done that, Mail will import the existing messages again, and sync them with Gmail.
Where do you think the password was stolen from?  The email server or my computer?
It wasn't stolen at all; it was just too easy to guess using standard hacking tools. That's why you have to use secure passwords that can't be guessed.

  • Sent E-mails Not Saved In Sent Folder

A while back I posted a topic about randomly sent e-mails not being saved in the Apple Mail Sent folder. At the time I thought it had something to do with AOL. BTW, I am using Apple Mail to access AOL's e-mail servers.
I am also using Apple Mail to access the e-mail servers for a web account I have with Your-Site.com. The same thing happened. I was sending an e-mail with a 6MB attachment. The Apple Mail status bar was holding steady at the half way mark. But it was not moving for about 2-3 minutes. Eventually the status bar disappeared. I checked my Sent folder and the e-mail I sent was not listed. No error messages. I did happen to bbc myself to another e-mail account that I have and it did make it there. But I have no idea if the e-mail was received by the company who I addressed it to.
I sent a follow-up e-mail to ask if they have received it but have not heard anything back.
Should I assume they got it since the bbc was successful?
Also, is it possible for randomly sent e-mails not to be saved in the Apple Mail Sent folder? And if so, why is that?

I have the same problem, and I think my mail is an older version 1.3.11 (I don't know why it's not updated though!!) Anyway... it's very frustrating, but I know that even it's not copied in the sent forder, the recipient receive the message. But We don't have any proof until the recipient reply or tell us that he had it. I could say that 97% of my message are copied in the sent folder and the other 3% is lost I don't know where... Why ? I don't understand... I there a probleme with the server .mac or the Mail app. ???
    Thank you

  • E-MAILS NOT SHOWING UP

I had the same issue with the original iPhone (I now have the 3GS). I can be sitting at my computer and receive an e-mail on my PC, however, when I manually (I have Fetch turned-off) attempt to check for mail, it does not show up on my iPhone. Also, sometimes I may receive three or more e-mails (at one time) on my PC, and maybe one or two (but not all) show up on my iPhone. Is this normal? Lastly, I can send myself an e-mail from my PC or iPhone and receive it on my iPhone within seconds.

How do you get a Yahoo account to even push.
I do not think that you can get it to push.
You need another services like ActiveSync with and Exchange server or MobileMe for the push function to work.
So you need not even turn on push and just set the Fetch frequency to your desired interval or just manualy fetch them.
How do you connect to your Yahoo account?
    i.e. POP3 or HTTP?
    Either one will not push.
Here are the features with MobileMe. This will explain it all.
    http://www.apple.com/mobileme/features/
If you want MobileME you need to purchase this for $99 annually.
Since Yahoo is a free account is your e-mail that important that you need it pushed to you? Most likely not if you are just using a free Yahoo account. So I think that set frequency to a desired interval or just open your e-mail and force a fetch is the right option.

  • Mail not showing emails with attachments

Mail doesn't show/download emails with pdf attachments, although I can see the emails and attachments on my iphone no problem. The whole email is missing, not just the attachment.
Please help as this means I sometimes miss important emails, and well as the inconvenience of only being able to access the email and attachment from my phone

Please follow these directions to delete the Mail "sandbox" folder.
    Back up all data.
Triple-click the line below to select it:
    ~/Library/Containers/com.apple.mail
Right-click or control-click the highlighted line and select
    Services ▹ Reveal
from the contextual menu.* A Finder window should open with a folder named "com.apple.mail" selected. If it does, move the selected folder — not just its contents — to the Desktop. Leave the Finder window open for now.
Quit and relaunch Mail, and test. If the problem is resolved, you may have to recreate some of your Mail settings. You can then delete the folder you moved and close the Finder window. If you still have the problem, quit Mail again and put the folder back where it was, overwriting the one that may have been created in its place. Post your results.
Caution: If you change any of the contents of the sandbox, but leave the folder itself in place, Mail may crash or not launch at all. Deleting the whole sandbox will cause it to be rebuilt automatically.
*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C). In the Finder, select
    Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar, paste into the box that opens (command-V). You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.

  • Inbox mail not showing up.

I just set up a iMac. Having a problem with mail.
My iphone is not showing my mail that is in my inbox on the imac. All other mailboxes have the mail in it. I tested by sending a email to my iphone from the imac. It shows up. However, Mail sent from the imac is sent from "first name Last name" Mail sent from my iphone is sent from "apple ID"
Did I set up the imac mail incorrectly?

Mail uses files called “Envelope Index files” to keep track of messages in your local mailboxes.
    Quit Mail.
Locate your Mail folder in your User's Library. Your home Library folder is hidden by default. To display it, choose Finder > “Go to Folder” and then enter “~/Library.”
Delete any file that begins with “Envelope Index,” in ~/Library/Mail/MailData
    Open Mail
Mail creates new Envelope Index files. This process may take a few minutes, depending on how many messages Mail is reindexing.

  • Mail not showing up on lock screen

    Here is my scenario.
When waking up in morning noticed that emails received during the night do not appear on lock screen. When going in to the iPhone I swiped down to see notification center and new emails were not there.  However once I opened mail, and it received emails, I was then able to see them in the notification center.  Should it not show the emails on the lock screen without opening mail program?
BTW, I checked settings for Mail notification center and the following options were set.
    Notification Center: ON
    Alert Style: Banner
    Badge App Icon: ON
    Show Preview: ON
    View in Lock Screen: ON
Thanks and I look forward to your reply.
    ...Bruce

@razmee: Negative. the emails are arriving, (sound plays) but no notifications are showing up.
I just fixed this: Force Mail out of memory in the app switcher. All notifications in mail now working!
I've seen mail do odd things like this before. Be sure to let John Gruber know that sometimes you DO need to do this!
