Received message about "uncertified cable" when plugging phone in to Apple supplied cable

Connected my iPhone 5 to my iMac via Apple supplied cable, connected to my keyboard. Received message stating the cable was "not certified and could damage device if used" or words close to that ...
This is one of the Lightning cables I have purchased from Apple, used with this phone in this configuration with no prior issues.
I noticed this morning that the battery had not charged overnight, was dangerously low. Phone still showed in iTunes, was able to sync.
Charged phone using my iPad wall adapter, phone is accepting charge. Plugged it back into the iMac, no error message.
A bit confused by this.

Howdy Bob,
It sounds like there is an intermittent issue with the USB adapter cable or the iPhone. Take a look at the articles linked below, they will provide insight and troubleshooting suggestions that should help resolve the issue.
iPhone and iPod touch: Charging the battery
http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1476
Connect your device to a USB port on your computer (not an external keyboard) using the USB cable that came with the device. Your computer must be on.
Some third-party cables and accessories that aren't Apple certified, or are FireWire equipped, may not charge your device properly. If you see either of the alerts below, the device may not charge. Try another cable or accessory.
"This cable or accessory is not certified and may not work reliably with this iPhone."
"This accessory is not supported by this device."
If either of these alerts appear and nothing is connected to the dock connector, make sure that the dock connector is free of debris.

  • I am having some trouble with receiving messages from iMessage users when I don't have my iMessage turned on. When I called for support, I spent 30 min waiting and the woman's response to me was "Turn on your iMessage." I prefer not to use it

I have an iPhone 5s and a MacBook Pro. Ever since I updated my computer software to Yosemite, it linked my Apple ID with my phone number and I am not receiving messages from iMessage users on my phone, but rather to my computer. I don't like to use iMessage so I keep it off and would like to receive all messages as SMS texts. I have already tried changing my Apple ID password, logging off of my Apple ID in iMessage on my phone and turning it off, and changing settings on messages on my computer. Nothing is working. Either the messages continue to go to my computer or the messages trying to be sent say they cannot be sent.
After spending 30 + minutes waiting for technical support, the woman helping me (who did not give me her name) told me I should just turn on iMessage. After explaining that I don't like having iMessage on and asking why it worked for at least a year up until this point she said "things change and sometimes we don't know why things do what they do". She asked me about various other things on my phone such as bluetooth and told me to turn on and off airplane mode and the call disconnected. I have not been contacted since, even though she has my phone number.
I am hoping for some help and also hoping people don't get the type of service I received tonight.

I think you can solve your problems by removing your AppleID email address from BOTH the Messages setting on your iPhone and the iMessages settings on your Mac.
    On iPhone:
    Settings > Messages > iMessage > Dissabled
Settings > Messages > Send & Receive > touch the "(i)" < touch "Remove This Email"
    On Mac:
    Open "Messages" application
    Click "Messages menu > Preferences
    Click "Accounts"
    Select your AppleID account
Under the "You can be reached for messages at" settings, uncheck your AppleID email address and your phone number
Then uncheck the "Enable this account" setting
And lastly, ask all of your friends with iPhones to delete all iMessage conversations (blue bubbles) in their entirety.
To test, send a friend a new text using their phone number (not their email address) and watch the color of the bubble.  If it's green then you are using SMS.

Will not work.  To my knowledge, dual converting like that isn't supported.  The Mac must detect the connected video output device and that sort of info cannot be done across an analog component uni-directional connection.

  • When plugged into wall, iPhone 4 says to restore at iTunes.  When plugged into PC the apple icon flashes 10 seconds and screen goes blank 10 seconds. The device never shows in iTunes.  How do I restore?

I need to restore my iPhone 4 in iTunes.  I get this message when it is plugged into the wall.  When I plug it into the PC it doesn't stay on long enough for recognition.  How do I restore?

Sorry, disregard the last response; I can't edit it. You should dry it BEFORE trying different cables. The safest way to go about this is dry your iPhone inside-out and to not turn it on until it's dry. Maybe there is a little moisture stuck inside preventing it from booting, but if you're lucky, it's not permanently damaged. The best way I've heard of to dry it is to leave it overnight in a tight bag with dry rice or, better yet, silica packets (those anti-moisture things found in packaged items). Maybe longer if you want to be extra safe. If it still doesn't charge without the Apple logo flashing, try using different Lightning to USB cables. Maybe it's just a bad cable, but you shouldn't test that until you've dried your phone.

  • How to find messages sent to you when your phone was broken

So my iphone 4s running ios7 was having trouble for about a week. Whenever I plugged it into iTunes it said it was in recovery mode and had to be backed up, which I did and would never complete because it would say error. During this time my iphone would just keep restarting itself over and over and would show the icon with the charger at the bottom and the itunes logo in the middle when it would restart and would loop through this process until the battery ran out. I since replaced my iphone with a replacement and backed it up, but the text messages that I should have received during this week have not come through. I know that pictures were sent to me through imessage and none of the text messages that I got during this time are showing up.
Is there a way for me to see all of my imessages? or to find these lost texts?

SMS messages are not guaranteed to be delivered, so any which you have not received are most likely gone forever (unless you can get the NSA to give you copies they have).  As for iMessage, the message history should populate to your new device when you use it with the same Apple ID and send/receive iMessages with the same contacts.  My iPad Air uses the same Apple ID as my iPhone 5, and when I actually send or recieve an iMessage with a contact since signing into the iPad Air it has pulled the history of the conversation to that device as well.

  • How can i see text messages people sent from when my phone was turned off?

i was abroad for the past 3 months, and my phone was turned off (NOT deactivated). when i got back i received one text from 5 minutes before i had turned the phone on. I know for a fact that i should have received numerous texts/picture messages, etc. Is it too late to receive these in some way? There are also voicemails but i can accept that these are gone forever. Are pending texts/ whatever deleted after a certain amount of time?

If the text message is not able to be delivered for 5 days, it is deleted - so only the most recent days would be coming when when you turned the phone back on. New voicemails would be saved until the mailbox is full, I would think.

  • IMessage - How to properly receive messages that where sent to your phone number?

There's a really weird iMessage behavior,
I've got both my iPhone and my iPad configured with the same Apple ID, iMessage turned on, it would only arrive at my iPhone (as an iMessage), but not on my iPad - what's the point?! (no one should know that he has to SMS my mail address for my devices to show the message as expected)
Does antone else have this problem? Is there some kind of fix?
    Thanks.

Tried that on their phones, I was thinking that maybe since the "old" conversation is linked to my e-mail it might see that when I choose my cell number it takes it as  "new' conversation, but I would think that since both my e-mail and cell number is in my contact on their iPhones it would know to connect to the 'old" conversation. Another weird thing was a friend text me which I received on my iPhone not my iPad, but when I reasoned the texts started to show up on the iPad the original text was missing but the rest of the conversation was there, I was at wok when this took place and had no access to the iPad.

  • Receiving messages on 2 iPhones with different numbers but same Apple ID.  Went under Settings Messages and unchecked second phone

Receiving duplicate messages on iPhones and an iPad, all with different tele#'s but under same Apple ID# ever since upgrade to 7.0.4.  Went under SETTINGS>MESSAGES>SEND & RECEIVE and unchecked all but that particular iPhone tele# and Email address.  Still reverts back to same problem,  Any further suggestions to resolve?

Visual voicemail is a carrier feature, contact your cell phone provider and see if it is set up for you to use.

  • TS2755 iPhone 5 on ios7 doesn't receive messages from other iPhones when data is turned off

My iPhone 5 doesn't receive iMessages or texts from other iPhones when my data is turned off, obviously I do not expect to receive iMessages but I also cannot receive text messages. Text messages can be sent but not received. Text messaging to and from people with androids and blackberries is fine.

That is because iPhone users would be sending you iMessages. The only time you would receive them as a text is if they have theirs turned off, or it is set to send an SMS if iMessage fails. At some point you had iMessages activated, and if so, that is how the iDevices will send to you.
