Received message in Safari about suspicious programs?
In Safari, I had a message with the Safari logo pop up that said:
"http://velikopopovecky.osa.pl
Caution! Your computer contains a variety of suspicious programs. Your System requires immediate checking! The system will perform a fast and fre check your PC for malicious programs."
I tried to quit Safari and it didn't quit, so then I went to Restart and it wouldn't let me. I took a screen shot of ther message and then Forced Quit Safari.
Do any of you know what this was? I'm guessing it's not legit, if for no other reason than Apple would never say: fast and free check your PC." It would say Mac instead of PC, and would get the grammar correct (i.e. of your PC, not PC).
Any insights? I couldn't find anything useful in a google search.

running macbookpro, snow leopard; got the same thing doing a search for mac compatibility on Safari.
I was unable to quit or to force quit safari; closed out everything else which was open;
still, I was unable to shutdown or restart without clicking on the 'ok' of the pop up.

In the interim, I was able to open and run mozilla and found this post of yours; thanks. allayed the panic.
decided to go ahead and click on the 'ok' because nothing else I knew to do was working.
I was then able to force quit and hoped that a restart would make it all right again.
so far, so good. I hope.
is the conclusion that this is 'harmless'?

It's a JavaScript scam that only affects your web browser, and only temporarily.
1. Some of those scam pages can be dismissed very easily. Press command-W to close the tab or window. A huge box will pop up. Press the return key and both the box and the page will close. If that doesn't happen, continue.
2. From the Safari menu bar, select
Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Security
and uncheck the box marked Enable JavaScript. Leave the preferences dialog open.
Close the malicious window or tab.
Re-enable JavaScript and close the preferences dialog.
3. If the Preferences menu item is grayed out, quit Safari. Force quit if necessary. Relaunch it by holding down the shift key and clicking its icon in the Dock. From the menu bar, select
Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Privacy ▹ Remove All Website Data
to get rid of any cookies or other data left by the server. Open your Downloads folder and delete anything you don't recognize. -

I to am having the same issue. I have a admin account and logged into it as well and still have the same message pop up. Contacted live support the woman i spoke with had to send it up higher. We went through every thing including her trying (taking over as a host on my laptop) still have not bee contacted this June will be a year that i have heard nothing from them sine She di everything she could and pushed it up higher.

I can't get new version of itunes to install on Windows 7 64 bit computer. Receive message that reads insufficient privileges to access c:\program files\ipod\bin. I've followed several threads I've read here but nothing is working.
For such situation, I'd suggest the following:
1. Remove current installed office with the fix-it tool in
KB2739501, and follow the "Remove Office manually" section to make sure there are no remaining files
2. Either download a trial version of Office 2013 from
http://office.microsoft.com/, or from
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/evalcenter/jj937170
3. Reboot your computer in clean boot mode, and run setup again

What does this mean: "The program can't start because MSVCR80.dll is missing from your computer. Try reinstalling the program to fix this problem"? I tried reinstalling, but I get an error message saying something about permission to launch services.

I am getting a message "can't open because PowerPC applications are no longer supported." What do I do about these programs?
In defense of the original poster, I just went through the Lion page (http://www.apple.com/macosx/) and the sub-pages linked on the top (including the 250 new features) and nowhere does it say anything about dropping Rosetta/PowerPC compatibility. A simple compatibility line in the tech specs page could help these kinds of threads. Nevertheless, the argument that Apple should have made this change more prominent is quite valid IMO.
Remember that Apple prides itself on being simple so don't expect everyone to be as up to date on compatibility issues as you. With the big uptake of new users in the last couple of years, these kind of questions should be expected, especially since most users are coming from Windows where compatibility is king (I can run apps from 10+ years ago with almost no issues).
Complicating the issue further is that there is no obvious way to see which older applications are PPC and which are not (who knew Warcraft 3 was PPC and not universal??).
A simple solution could be for Apple to provide copy of Rosetta that users can purchase if they want compatibility. Who knows, maybe such a solution is going to come from a third party -

Managed to get the installation sorted. Go to Control Panel, and where you have a list of all installed programs, repair all the Apple/Itunes related programs. Installation worked fine after that. Hopefully it helps you out too!

Please, I hd not paid my adobe plain, so, it´s canceled ... ok ... but just on few days I paid. You had purchased CC on 01/24/14 which was cancelled & then you again purchased CC 9/7/14, the error message that you are recieving is due to the cancellation as the server is trying to remind you, please log out & log back in of the CC desktop app to activate the new cc . The issue should be resolved.
You have 20 GB of space allocated indicating you have active CC.

Received message about "uncertified cable" when plugging phone in to Apple supplied cable
Connected my iPhone 5 to my iMac via Apple supplied cable, connected to my keyboard. Received message stating the cable was "not certified and could damage device if used" or words close to that ...
This is one of the Lightning cables I have purchased from Apple, used with this phone in this configuration with no prior issues.
I noticed this morning that the battery had not charged overnight, was dangerously low. Phone still showed in iTunes, was able to sync.
Charged phone using my iPad wall adapter, phone is accepting charge. Plugged it back into the iMac, no error message.

I'm using an earlier version of Firefox (v. 3.6.18), downloaded the add-on but it will not open. I received a error message saying safari can't open "firefox_sync-1.7-sm+fn+fx.xpi" because no available application can open it.
"Clear the Cache": Firefox > Preferences > Advanced > Network > Offline Storage (Cache): "Clear Now"

I am confused about messaging. Shouldn't I be able to send and receive messages with cellular data off and without wifi? I can send the message but often do not receive messages from others, iPhone or other, until I turn on cellular or wifi.
Depends on the type of Message.
SMS messages will send and receive with data off. and while you can guarantee you send using SMS you cannot guarantee that whoever replies to you does also. They may be replying thorugh iMessage if they are using iPhones.
However Android should be sending through SMS.
You can turn off iMessage if you want to, though people with limtied SMS text messaging in their plans may not appreciate it, and stop messaging you. -
