Received notification re iTunes 12.1.1 can't download

TThis also happened with the 12.1.07something update.
i Receive the official update notification and click to install but the download starts and never completes.
last time I had to google the update and install the full iTunes software over the existing version.
WHY doesn't the update install from the official notification??

Clear space on your iPhone (go to Settings > General > Usage) and complete the download there.
If you rented the movie on your iPhone, it can only be viewed on your iPhone.

The GB size of the download file is the compressed size (like .zip or .dmg). When the file is installed/uncompressed it can be 2-3 times larger.
How much space is used by your Other? You may be able to reduce.

Yes, but back up the library first. Note that if you're using Mac OS X 10.5.8, you won't be able to update iTunes past 10.6.3.

Yes I assume so, I was just wondering if anyone could enlighten me as to how. I'm running version 10.6.8 on a macbook, as far as I can see there's no reason why it wouldn't work.
What happens is when I connect iPhone 3GS it alerts me that the iOS5 software is available, but that itunes 10.5 needs to be downloaded first. I click through to start the download for itunes, then it runs software update, which says that my software is up to date, and that's as far as I seem to be able to go. The version of itunes that I am currently running is 10.2.1, and because I can't update itunes, I can't get the ios5 software. No error messages or anything else, just says my software is up to date, when it isn't.
Any thoughts/help much appreciated!

1Password4 is an app for IOS iphones, etc. that is being sold in iTunes, but you can only download it. I want to give it to some people as Xmas presents. You cannot buy an app yourself and then give the file to someone else. The download is tied to your iTunes Store account and cannot be authorized and used by anyone who does not have your account information. You need to use the Gift This App option that will appear when you click the arrow to the right of the app's price:
You'll be asked the name of the recipient and given the option to either have the redemption code emailed to them or for you to print out a gift certificate with the code. The recipient then redeems the code though their own iTunes Store account to download the app.

If it's a Surface Pro, you might be able to do it since the Pro has an Intel processor and a more-or-less standard version of Windows 8, though trying to use iTunes with a touch interface might be cumbersome. If it's the normal Surface, then no, you can't.

Upgraded to iTunes 9.0.2 -- can't download from iTunes Store (Error 1008)

So... I wanted to download Pearl Jam's new album, "Backspacer", and due to the video content iTunes asked me to upgrade from iTunes 8. Then I got a dialog box saying that I had to upgrade Safari and Quicktime as well. So I did all that, only to find that I can't download anything on iTunes anymore. I get "Could not download (album name). Error message 1008"
I've had one suggestion from iTunes Support, which I've done and it hasn't worked.
1. I went to the system preferences of my Mac and then into sharing and remove all special characters in the "Computer Name" field. There was an apostrophe in mine but when deleted, that didn't help.
2. Also I've seen on bulletin boards that pending purchase can cause an error message like this, but I don't have any.

Everytime I click onto download now, it brings me right to the page that says thank you for downloading iTunes.
That can sometimes be caused by pop-up blockers and/or web accelerators. If you switch all your pop-up blockers off (in the web browser, security software and any other utilities with that function) and or switch off your web accelerator, does the download go through any better?

Depending upon which store you use you may be able to recover some of your past purchases. See HT2519 - Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store.
Go the iTunes Store home page, click the Purchased link from the Quick Links section in the right-hand column, then select Music and Not on this computer. You should find download links for your tracks there.
While downloading select Downloads in the left-hand column and make sure Allow Simultaneous Downloads is unchecked. (This should reduce the risk of corrupt downloads.)
For the future backup your library regularly with this User Tip.
If you have an Apple device see: Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device.

The older version of Apple Software Update cannot be removed. Contact your technical support group. I was update the iTunes software and it gave me that message. I ended up without iTunes and not I can't download info for my iPad.

I have tried Revo, CCleaner, COMODO, "find" in Regedit. Nothing finds anything related to Apple Software Update.
