So is your "Messages" or "SMS" icon missing? Try to reset the device by removing the battery for 30 seconds. Also try to reset the theme by going into Options | Theme, hitting the menu button, and choosing Reset Theme Defaults.

  • Messages disappeared from my Inbox after Rebuilding

    Hi,
I accidentally clicked on "Rebuild" in Mail and messages of the last 3 months have disappeared from my Inbox. However, they are still there in the Mail folder on the hard disk. How do I make them reappear in my Inbox?? Help!!

I had the same problem, after rebuilding, the Inbox was empty. I tried all the fixes I found here and on the forum numerous times with no luck. I was able to recover most email using a Time Machine restore, but the Inbox still was not accepting any new mail. Finally, realizing that my MobileMe mail server was fine, and that Mail continued to work on my iPod, I opened my Mail preferences and deleted my MobileMe account from the machine, and then added it back, configured exactly as it was before. Bingo! Everything is back to normal.

  • Mail messages disappear from the Inbox, but are still in ~/Library/Mail

    Folks,
I'm encountering a perplexing problem on my parent's eMac; any input would be very much appreciated...here's the story:
Over the weekend, I upgraded my Dad's 1.25GHz eMac G4 to Tiger (it had been running 10.3.9). The upgrade went smoothly, and all seemed well. I applied all the latest Apple Software Updates to get the eMac to 10.4.6, and once again, all seemed well. I performed the usual Disk Utility "permission fixing," as well, and nothing came up that seemed unusual. I did notice that I encountered the "spinning beach ball" a fair amount during routine operations, but I attributed this to the fact that the eMac only has 512MB of RAM (it's going to receive another 512 in a few days), and that I was just being impatient, given that I am accustomed to my own machine, which is a relatively snappy dual 2.5GHz G5 with the full complement of 8GB of RAM. A day or so later, Dad reported that the Mail app was not starting; upon clicking the Mail icon, it simply bounced several times, and then simply stopped bouncing. I looked at the crash logs and found that Mail could not locate a needed file/library located in /System/Library/Frameworks/SyncServices.framework. In addition, I noticed that the iCal app and the Address Book app were also crashing (the icons of each would bounce, just like Mail's, then stop, without the apps actually firing up). The crash logs revealed that those apps were also looking for this mysterious file, which apparently had somehow been misplaced/lost. I used the "Pacifist" program to reinstall the contents of that particular directory (using the Tiger install CD). Much to my relief, once that directory was reinstalled, the apps once again started up and worked normally. HOWEVER, I noticed some odd behavior with the Mail app. The first thing that became evident was that the Inbox did not show all the messages that had been there before. Looking under the ~/Library/Mail/POP-Dad's account/INBOX.mbox/Messages directory, however, it was clear that all the messages were indeed there (in the form of the individual .emlx files). They just did not seem to be displayed in the Inbox of the Mail app. I tried doing a "rebuild" of the mailbox, but this did not result in any additional messages being displayed. Any thoughts?
The other perplexing behavior is this: the Mail app on the eMac can send and receive mail, but, once you click on a newly-received (unread) message, and then go to another mail box (say, for example, the "Drafts" or "Sent" folders), and then return to the Inbox, the message that was just received is no longer displayed/listed in the Inbox. Once again, looking in the ~/Library/Mail/POP-Dad's account/INBOX.mbox/Messages directory reveals that the message IS there (again, in its own .emlx file), but is simply not being displayed in the Inbox. I can click on the individual .emlx files, and they open new windows in Mail, from which you can hit "reply" or "forward," as normal; it just won't display the actual message that was originally in the Inbox. Sent messages, however, seem to be saved/displayed normally.
I've searched through the Mail discussion forum, and while I've found discussions along generally similar lines, I have not located an entry dealing with these particular symptoms. As such, any input/suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance for your time.

Regarding the missing package that you reinstalled with Pacifist, it would have been better to fix the problem by reinstalling the Mac OS X 10.4.6 Combo Update. Actually, you're going to have to do that anyway, as the package you installed came from an older version of Mac OS X and could now be out-of-sync with the rest of the system. Not only that, but if there was something amiss with that package, chances are that something else went awry as well, so you should really reinstall the latest Combo Update. Read the following articles for guidelines on how to properly install system updates:
    Troubleshooting installation and software updates
    Installing software updates
Basically, you should verify/repair the boot volume (not just permissions) before installing the update, and no applications should be running while installing it.
As to the missing messages, the conversion from Mail 1.x to Mail 2.0 is broken. Take a look at the following thread to better understand the problem:
Help! "You need to take this account online in order to download it."
If you see a strangely named Messages-XXXXXX folder within any of the *.mbox folders in the Finder, that means the conversion didn't proceed as it should, so be careful about deleting the old files, as they may contain messages that didn't come through. Better just move them out of there if you wish.
I partially disagree with Allan (and with Ernie, who also has troubleshooted a lot of similar cases and believes the old files could still be troublesome after a successful conversion as well) in that I don't think the problem with Mail 2.0 is the presence of the old files, but rather that, as a result of the improper conversion, there is something wrong with Envelope Index and with some of the converted messages themselves. IMO, the old files shouldn't be a problem if the conversion worked properly. Mail should just ignore those files when it sees a proper Messages folder in the mailbox folder.
The reason you cannot see in Mail some messages for which an *.emlx file exists is precisely that there is something wrong with Envelope Index. Mail will simply ignore any *.emlx file for which a corresponding entry does not exist in Envelope Index. Actually, Mail doesn't look into the Messages folder at all when displaying the mailbox contents, it just loads whatever there is in Envelope Index. If that information is wrong, the information displayed by Mail will be wrong as well; it may refer to messages that no longer exist, ignore messages that do exist, display one message but load a different one when you open it, etc.
Re-creating Envelope Index without cleaning up the mailboxes first would probably fail and it could even make things worse, though. That's what makes troubleshooting these issues harder than it should be.

  • How can I send and receive a message as an SMS?

I just got an iPhone 4S, an it's completely updated. I can send iMessages just fine when I am connected to wifi at home. I can't send an SMS at all, Cellular data or wifi. It shows that it's sent as an SMS(it's green and it says it's sent), but the receiver never receives it. Apparently they can't send an SMS to me either. It shows on their phone that it's sent, but I never receive it. Do I have to have my cellular data turned on to recieve an SMS? Even with it on, it doesn't work.

    Hi,
You can get quite simple standalone MQ Java programs from this site http://www.capitalware.biz/mq_code_java.html.
Also regarding the jars required for your application depends on the API being used. If you use MQI API few jars are required and if you decide to use JMS API you'll require few other jars. But you got to either install Websphere MQ Java Client, which will copy the jars to the respective location, or you can choose to copy the jars from some other machine manually.
Eventually, all the jars related to MQI and JMS API will reside under /usr/mqm/java/lib/ or /var/mqm/java/lib/ UNIX Environment. And in case of WINTEL, you should find the jars under C:\Program Files\IBM\WebSphere MQ\Java\lib.

Then today she sent me an sms and i answered and this "firts" converastion appeared.
She had less than 2000 messages! How can we restore them ??
Is there any solution?? There was important things inside.
And because she has a mac () , she couldnt backup before without a nokia suite...
    PLEASE HELLPPPPP

Try a reboot and see if it helps. To reboot, press and hold the power button for 8 secs or more. This is similar to a battery pull.

  • Suddenly hundreds of "sent" messages disappeared. Folder is empty, but 'properties' says there are 679 messages. So not deleted I guess. But where are they?

The only thing I changed before this happened was the 'retention' policy in my account settings with respect to retaining/deleting messages on the server. I had that set at 'never delete' while I was away for a week, but changed it to delete after 7 days on my return today. All sent messages then disappeared on the server, and I discovered later to my surprise in my computer as well. Next to the "Sent" folder in the computer there's now a small square that's filled in darkly. I don't know if the square was there before, but I'm pretty sure it wasn't dark if it was there at all. I really need those 'sent' messages - at least the most recent ones. Does anyone have any idea what's going on? Also - I could do a 'system restore', but have the feeling that won't affect my Thunderbird account at all. Is that right?

I suspect your account is an IMAP account. With IMAP all mail is managed on the server. If you delete a message in Thunderbird it is removed on the server as well, and vice versa.
So I think what happened is what's described in the article in the
'It's just doing what you told it to do' section.
    More details in this article.
    http://kb.mozillazine.org/Message_aging
If you want to avoid messages being deleted set the retention policy to 'never delete'.
I don't think I understand what 'a small square that's filled in darkly' is.
A system restore won't do you any good as the Thunderbird profile isn't covered.
Miscellaneous.msf won't help. Msf files are index files, and do not contain any messages.
Your best bet is to restore a backup of your profile.

  • Mail inbox messages disappear with gmail IMAP

I've just set up an IMAP connection to my gmail account in Mail and after reading a message in my inbox, the message disappears from my inbox and I can only find the email in All Mail.
Looking in gmail, the gmail inbox still contains all of the emails that should be in it, so I know that gmail isn't filtering or archiving read emails. Additionally, on my phone my inbox shows properly so I know that my problem lies with Mail itself.
I have deleted all my rules from Mail, so I know no filtering is going on at the Mail level either.
If anybody could please help me out...
    Thanks,
    Shawn

    Reappears on restart of Mail.
No rules set for this in preferenes.
No check box rules in Preferences seem to apply.
Others on web report same problem.
iPhone receives and shows incomeing mail for this box fine.
It happened upon resetting incoming SSL port per instructions from Web email Server firm.
This complaint in reported around the mac sites from Mail at least v. 2.5 on. Isn't anyone at Apple working on the problem??

  • Messages not removed from Inbox when deleted on iphone

My company has an exchange based mail system and they provide imap access for devices like the iphone.
I set up the iphone to connect to the server and can read messages just fine. I set the Deleted items option in the Settings app for Mail to be the Deleted Items folder on the server.
When I delete the messages on the iphone this is what happens:
    1) The message disappears from the Inbox on the phone.
    2) The message appears in the Trash on the phone.
    3) The message appears in the Deleted Items folder on the server (as viewed from my normal work computer).
    4) The message stays in the Inbox folder on the server.
So, in sum, things do what they are supposed to do on the phone. On the server, I wind up with 2 copies of the same message - one in Inbox and one in Deleted Items.
I will point out that the same behavior occurs when I try to move an item from any folder to any other from the iphone. The message winds up in both the original and the target folders....
What do I need to do to set it up so that messages are removed from the originating folder on a delete or move?
    Thanks

    Sounds like typical POP behavior.
Is your mail account POP or IMAP?
If POP, then your mail activities are normal, that's how POP operates.
If it's IMAP, contact your server admin, as IMAP should be reflecting all activity across all devices with that specific account on it.

  • 7390 Inbox Empty but Consuming 1.1Gb Memory

Hello!  My sister just gave me her old 7390 unit.  When I checked the phone memory status, it said Messaging is using 1.1Gb.  When I checked Messaging, I found the Inbox empty (she deleted all her messages), but it shows that 1.1Gb of memory is being used by it.  I tried to delete all messages in the Inbox again, just in case, but it being empty, got a message that there is nothing to delete.  Still, it is using 1.1Gb.
Does anyone know why this is so?  Can anyone help me?
    Thanks!

Looking at the specs of the 7390, I see you only have 21MB of internal memory. You can use a memory card up to 2GB. Reformat the memory card.

  • Can't receive SMS messages in inbox

self explanatory title, i can send but not receive sms messages unless i use the application crunchSMS. I receive stuff like bbm and the messages box in used in conjunction. I've been using crunchSMS for 2 months now and i've received messages in the message box and the app.
Have i pressed a wrong button or something

    Hi millz90,
    Welcome to the Support Communities!
The functionality of viewing All Inboxes has not changed from iOS 6 to iOS 7.
Take a look at the screenshot from the iOS 7 User guide below.
In this example, the user is looking at an inbox from one specific email account.
Notice the blue Mailboxes link in the top left corner of the screen.
When you tap on Mailboxes on your device, the new screen should have the title Mailboxes at the top and All Inboxes should be the first item on the list.
If you scroll down to the bottom of the screen, you will see your Accounts listed, and you can choose to open a specific email account to look at its Inbox or Sent mailbox.

  • Verizon iPhone 4S stopped being able to receive SMS messages last night.  Any ideas?

My wife and I have had our iPhone 4S's since they first became available in 2011.  Up until last night we had not had any issues.  All of a sudden a couple of our relvatives called us and said they could not send us text messages, they were getting Not Delivered messages or SMS Failure, depending on their carrier/device (they do not have iPhones).  My wife and I were still able to send iMessages to each other, but when I shut off iMessage to debug, we were not able to send SMS messages to each other.  Turned iMessage back on and we are able to message back and forth.
Note, our two iPhones share the same Apple ID, but each phone's iMessage is associated with a different phone number and email.  Both phones were on iOS 6.0.2
I searched this forum and Verizon for solutions, tried several starting with reboot, delete all existing messages, delete contact and finally did a backup and factory restore via iTunes for my device only.  Still no luck, I cannot receive SMS messages.
I had not yet installed iOS 6.1.x after reading of some of the issues.  However, since I tried a factory restore to fix this, I was foreced to updated to 6.1.2.
We did not receive the message that we have reached the 75,000 message limit, but just to be sure, we deleted all old messages and still nothing.
    So to summarize:
iMessage works fine, send and receive between the two of us and other iPhone users
We are able to send SMS messages, we have confirmed that people can receive our SMS messages
We cannot receive SMS message.  We never see the messages and the people who try to text us get undeliverable messages.
    All started yesterday evening.
    Any help is much appreciated.
    Darin

If I am connected to Wifi and send an iMessage to a party that is not connected to the Internet then he doesn't receive the message. How do I force my iPhone to send an SMS instead?

It is an interesting option but I am not sure how it works. I disconnected the other party Wifi and 3G on the iPhone, iPad and computer. I sent the iMessage 15 minutes ago and it doesn't give the small foot print "delivered" but equally said I didn't get the RED exclamation mark on the right hand side of the message in BLUE. So we know that the message was sent but not delivered. I don't seem to have the option of sending by SMS when I tap on the BLUE message and hold.
