Received warning re. McAfee ScriptScan 14.4.1 extension won't work with FF 10.0.2 update, and will be disabled. How should I proceed?

MY system is Windows XP, SP3, laptop, running FF 9.0.1. When trying to update to FF 10.0.2 I got a msg that the McAfee ScriptScan 14.4.1 addon won't work with FF 10.0.2 and will be disabled. Shall I go ahead and install the FF update? Would it be a security risk either way? Which one is worse?

I don't know what ScriptScanner does, but I think it's always a good idea to update Firefox to eliminate known vulnerabilities, particularly if it's your main browser. You can see what security problem were fixed in Firefox 10.0.2 (and earlier versions) on this page: https://www.mozilla.org/security/known-vulnerabilities/firefox.html
According to the end of this long forum thread, there's a good chance it will still work (based on experience with the previous release): [https://community.mcafee.com/message/226187 McAfee Communities: McAfee ScriptScan for Firefox 14.4.0].
However, it has been reported that the McAfee add-ons can cause Firefox to use much more memory. If you notice a performance slow-down, consider disabling them. More info: [http://blog.mozilla.com/nnethercote/2012/02/17/the-mcafee-site-advisor-add-on-has-an-appalling-memory-leak/ The McAfee Site Advisor add-on has an appalling memory leak | Nicholas Nethercote].
Hope this helps.

    I am confused. Do you mean you found the music, not the tones, or you can't find either?
    If the former, then this is normal. You can't redownload tones from the Cloud.

    As long as the report ends up with 'Permissions repair complete' then, as far as permissions go, you are fine. You can ignore the various statements in the report:
    Permissions you can ignore on 10.5 onwards:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1448
    Using 'should be -rw-r--r-- , they are lrw-r--r--' as an example, you will see the that the permissions are not changed, but the | indicates a different location. This is because an update to Leopard onwards changed the location of a number of system components.

  • Confused: Keyboard doesn't have batteries, warning "batteries low replace them" now numeric pad won't work!

    http://www.bestbuy.com/site/apple-keyboard-aluminum/3142351.p?id=1218379768576&s kuId=3142351
    I KNOW THIS IS THE WRONG AREA FOR THIS QUESTION, SINCE ITS NOT ABOUT MAGIC MOUSE OR TRACKPAD, BUT THERE IS NO OTHER COMMUNITY EVEN CLOSE TO DISCUSSING KEYBOARDS - CAN ANYONE HELP PLEASE?
    I have the Apple wired keyboard with attached numbers keypad. For appx a week I have had my mac popup and warn me "keyboard batteries are low, replace them". I just laugh and thought how weird since I do not have anywhere to replace batteries on this keyboard. I have flipped it over and I see no battery compartments. See link.
    Well today I wake up to discover my numeric keypad does not work, as in when I press numbers nothing happens at times and every once in awhile I can get a number to work. But everything else works incl the numbers above letters (at the top, left of numeric keypad).
    This # is on the back of the keyboard: CC2402209WKDPQVAT
    I am at a loss, how do you make it think you have "replaced batteries"? And why would the numeric keypad stop working correctly?
    I DESPERATELY need the keypad thats why I purchased it so any thoughts or suggestions?

    I do have the wireless, but it is packed in a box, in the garage. That is great bluetooth reach if it is.
    So I need to mention, I run our auto glass company on my mac, but have parallels for software/windows compatibility issues. When I disconnected from the bluetooth wireless listed one, I could no longer type from this keyboard. I also clicked on Parallels and chose keyboard/numpad in settings. When I did I could type away all functions working on the keyboard. HOWEVER, now on my mac side, nadda! Numbers, letters, return, etc nothing worked. I then unplugged keyboards usb from back of mac and shut off mac and then turned it back on. Still didn't work, so I reconnected from that list, and now it works on both mac and parallels...and now it is back to low batteries!
    How do I get my mac to recognize I have this non wireless keyboard? I have looked all thru keyboard in preferences and I don't see how.
    Again, thank you for your replies and suggestions!!

  • Firefox 5.0 won't work with mcafee site advisor-will this be fixed soon?

    When I downloaded firefox 5.0 it checks for incompatible add on etc. and it deleted mcafee site advisor which shows which web sites are safe to use. I went back to firefox 4.0 because it works with site advisor. I'd like to use the newest form of firefox, but want mcafee site advisor enabled. Will this be fixed?

    It will work again if McAfee does a full update...

  • Auto upgraded last night, Norton popped up with warning about using an exe file - Nortorn removed file now firefox won't work - what to do to restore firefox and keep bookmarks, etc. or is new exe safe to use?

    After Firefox upgraded, I closed the upgrade window and started firefox. When I went to bookmarks and tried to open a program a Norton window opened warning that this was untested...only 10 users in the community and gave three options:
    1. Block program
    2. Remove file
    3. Let it run.
    Not really knowing what was going on, I picked option 2. The "removal" was still running 7 hours later so I shut the computer down manually. All other programs seem to be working fine (email, Internet Explorer, etc.)
    When I now open firefox I have the option to start a new session or restore. I have not restored and a new session will stay open a few seconds before microsoft closes the program ( program has stopped working). I would like to restore firefox and get it working without loosing my bookmarks, etc.or have Norton try to block the program. Also, I think the exe file in question is a launcher.

    What are the names of the files? That is your beginning. One
    option is to isolate your computer from the web while you get
    back control.

  • I am running Firefox 5, McAfee Site advisor is blocked. I contacted McAfee and they said it won't work with Firefox 5 and that I should use an ealier version of FF or use IE. Is there a patch coming to allow Site Advisor to work on FF 5?

    As above McAfee apparently feels the fault is with FF. I will admit that under the latest 3 version it worked fine. I skipped version 4 because of some things a read about it. I did go with FF5.

    The McAfee Site Advisor add-on is blocklisted by Mozilla due to that Site Advisor extension being the #2 cause of crashing the Firefox 5.0 betas. McAfee was notified of the problem long before that extension was added to the blocklist. Now it is up to them to fix it. <br /> https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/blocked/ <br />
    https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=660111
    I have read that McAfee is working on a re-written version that is projected to be available in the 3rd week of July.
    Quite honestly, with McAfee taking the position that this problem is with Firefox or is Mozilla's fault, when that add-on has a long history of being [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Problematic_extensions PROBLEMATIC], I have lost the little respect I had for McAfee being a respectable, ethical company. ''Of course, my level of respect for McAfee was low to begin with due to problems I had with their software 10 years ago causing me to re-format my PC bi-weekly immediately after their security scans on a Win98 PC, and haven't used their stuff since once I discovered their software was causing my problem with lost video card drivers repeatedly.''

  • Tried downloading itunes version 11.4 and received an error code 2324. Now itunes will not work at all and I cannot sync my phone, ipad or ipod. How should I proceed?

    I have tried several times to load version 11.4 and keep getting an error code2324, now I cannot sync any of my apple products. I set my machine to a previous recover date,  now iTunes will not work at all. I get a message stating I do not have the administrator rights to download. Any thoughts on this issue?

    For general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.
    The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down page in case one of them applies.
    Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there is backup and recovery advice elsewhere in the user tip.

  • Macbook Pro received kernel panic from Mavericks update and will not turn on

    Hi, I have a 2011 MBP and have had kernel panics since updating to Mavericks. Even in safe mode the computer just teuns on shows the kernel panic and then auto restarts and does this about three times before it shuts off completely. I have been informed the some of the hardware is not capable of running this software but even so I cannot even put MBP back to Mountain Lion. If anyone is having similar issue please let me know and any help would be great.

    Take it in for a service diagnostic so you can determine if it's worth fixing or if you should buy a new one.

  • My iphone 3Gs won't transfer new appointments to a shared ical and will only receive 3 out of 4 calendars when connected via itunes to our imac.  Help!?

    Usually I just connect my phone, itunes opens automatically and the phone syncs.  It downloads any new appointments from my husbands updates into my phone from the computer and updates the ical on the computer with my new appointments.  This system has allowed us for a whole year to keep a joint family calender.  One phone still works but not the other.  Any suggestions would be greatly apprciated!

    I should add that I get the message "iTunes could not sync calenders to the iPhone because the iPhone disconneced".  My iPhone is still connected and my husband uses the same cable successfully to sync his phone with our computer.  My apps, contacts, music etc. all sync without any problems.  Thanks again anyone who can help

  • Just installed updates, and now not protected when I go to the web! Message from Firefox warns my Norton won't work with their updates.

    A window on the screen appeared saying Firefox updates are ready to install. Which is what usually happens. So, I installed. Then, I get a popup that says:
    This version of Firefox is not supported by Norton Confidential. You will not be protected while browsing the Web. Norton Confidential cannot protect you while you use this version of Firefox. Phishing Protection requires Firefox 1.5 or later.
    I have Firefox 15.0. Isn't that "later" than 1.5? Had I known installing updates would kill my antivirus protection, I would have chosen to NOT install the Firefox updates! But, they don't tell you until after you've installed.
    So, crap. Now I'm not protected when I go online. What now?

    also, firefox has phishing protection already integrated

  • Warning from Lenovo re: using the workaround to get TVSU working with SP2

    Do this at your own risk.  TVSU will not be supported on Vista SP 2 until we release a version we've qualified with it.  While this mod will make the client recognize Vista SP 2 as the installed OS, it will do nothing to compensate for deeper code issues between the client, the packages and the service pack.

  • Receiving warning: implicit function declaration: memset

    We have the Sunstudio 11 compiler: Sun C 5.8 2005/10/13 and I created a C program and am receiving the above message:

    #include <stdlib.h>
    int
    main(int argc, char** argv)
    char formatString[200];
    memset(formatString, 0, sizeof(formatString));

    return (1);
    sprintf(formatString, "Hello %s, from old hello world program", argv[1]);
    printf("%s\n", formatString);
    return (EXIT_SUCCESS);
    When I compile, I receive
    "warning: implicit function declaration: memset". I also have code that uses strcpy and strcmp and I receive:
    warning: implicit function declaration: strcpy
    warning: implicit function declaration: strcmp
    When I compile with Workshp 6.2, this warning does not occur. This problem is a prototype issue. In Workshop 6.2, this was resolved if the string.h was not included. The compiler searched until it found the correct header. Is there a way to get the compiler to do what Workshop did?

    Thanks, I was just wondering why in 6.1 it was resolved. By including the appropriate header, the problem goes away. With the stub, I wrote, the program compiled on 6.1 with no warnings. But with studio, it compiled with the warning. This was a little bit strange. The developer really should include the appropriate header.
