Receiver with non-Nike shoes

What options do I have if I don't want to use the special Nike shoes meant for storing the remote receiver?
Dell Inspiron 6400, Windows Vista   Other OS

I had the same problem and my boyfriend found online this little case that fits around your sensor and attaches to your shoe laces. It seems to work great. It was like $20 online from some chinese company i think its called the SwitchEasy "runaway". I would recommend it as I don't wear Nike shoes because i the fit. I use it with my Brooks. Hopw this helps!!

  • Nike + with Non-Nike shoes

Has anyone used the Nike+ with a pair on running shoes that are not Nike brand? I really like my current shoes and don't want to buy new ones.

I use mine with a pair of Saucony's too. I just taped the sensor to the laces (lowest lace on the right shoe) and then did the calabration. I calabrated it running and walking, each for 1.25 miles. I went to the track and was careful to run 5 lapes in lane one to ensure I was running (or walking) 1.25 miles. Once I dd this, I found it to be very accurate, it registered 5.02k for a 5k race I ran. I ware my iPod on my right hip.
At least until I started having a problem where my workout is ended early, when t shouldn't.

  • Non-nike shoe first experience

I used the sport kit for the first time today with my New Balance shoes. The distance was off terribly - distance was actually 3.7 miles but it monitored it as 1.52 miles. I put the sensor under the insole of my left foot...and it did move around slightly during the run...Not sure if I need to buy the Nike shoes or if calibrating the sensor would help - this is a really BAD reading and I am slightly discouraged!

Of course, Nike makes a great shoe, so for most people the simplest & best solution will be to buy the Nikes. But having different shoes will not keep you from using the Nike+ Sport Kit.
I have heard many excellent runners who have a problem with Nike shoes (because they need custom made shoes or they have wide feet or any number of issues) say that they are successfully using the Nike+ sensor with non-Nike shoes. Some people carve out the same kind of hole in their non-Nike brand that the Nikes have. (It's not that hard to carve a hole to fit the sensor.)
Others have simply placed the sensor under their laces where the tongue attaches (making sure it is really secure--this is problematic with some brands). Others have used various means to attach the sensor in roughly the same position.
Still others, like myself, have cut a SMALL slit in the fabric of the underside of the tongue just above where it attaches and popped the sensor in there.
As long as the sensor is not moving sliding around freely but is fixed in position and is relatively level, your readings will not be affected.

  • Suggestion for Sport Kit in non-Nike Shoes

Like many of you, my Nike+ shoes just don't fit me right, but I don't want to take the Dremel to a new pair of New Balance shoes.
I contacted New Balance and asked if they had plans to offer a compatible shoe in the future. They replied that they probably wouldn't since it seemed too gimicky, and they were concerned about potential patent issues. When I told them that Apple announced a couple of months ago that they had sold 450,000 kits in three months, the guy replied that he'd bring it up at the next sales meeting.
If you're interested, you should contact your shoe manufacturer and let them know. The more of us that do so, the more likely your favourite shoes will have a built-in transmitter compartment. Here's New Balance's contact form.

I just bought a gadget from Marware that has a neoprene sleeve that fits on your laces that the sensor fits in. I just got it today so I haven't used it yet but here is the website.

  • HT1602 Hi, does my iPhone need to be on the left side of my body to work well with the Nike+ sensor in my shoes? I used it on my right side and the calibration was so off point.

Hi, does my iPhone need to be on the left side of my body to work well with the Nike+ sensor in my shoes? I used it on my right side and the calibration was so off point. I recently got a Bluetooth headphone and the antennae is on the right ear piece. For seamless connection am required to have my iPhone on my right arm if am using the headphone outdoors.

I was wondering this too.  Did you ever get an answer?  I just bought a non-nike pair of sneakers and have a pod pouch now on my laces.  I have it tight, at the lower part of the laces so its flat.  When its on the left side my time is very similar to what it was when I used the nike shoes.  When it is on the right side, my time is about 35sec/mile higher.  I wonder which is more accurate and if you are supposed to have them on the same side.  If so, then that is as accurate as with my nike shoes.  Hope we get an answer soon.  Im about to return everything its so frustrating.

  • Problem with Nike plus and running in non-Nike sneakers

I love running with my Nike plus and my itouch, but I've been having trouble with my Nike plus logging incorrect mileage when I attach the foot sensor to my non-Nike running shoes (in one of those little velcro pouches secured to the shoelaces). For instance, I ran a half marathon and it logged 4 miles. When I put the sensor back in my Nike plus shoes (which aren't quite as comfortable for me) everything is fine. Is anyone else having this problem? Should I carve a hole in the insole of my other sneakers to embed the sensor?

Seems something got corrupted with this VI. Copy things over to a fresh VI and things should be OK.

  • Using ATV2/3 with non-HDMI Receiver and theater projector and also need iTunes downloaded movies to work.   I'm thinking to use the Toslink digital out for surround sound and an HDMI to RGB converter for video but not sure the iTunes DRM will prevent?

I have a theater with a Runco projector but non HDMI. alas, my receiver is non HDMI. Changing electronics and projector is a non-starter.
I would like to be able to buy HD movies on iTunes and watch them by streaming via Apple TV3. My plan is to capture surround sound from the TosLink digital out, which my preamp/receiver can handle. For the video, I need to convert the HDMI to RGB component to feed my receiver.
This is where iTunes DRM and HDCP issues might arise. I am under the impression that I need an non-HDMI compliant converter so that ATV3 can even talk to my receiver. It is my understanding that this is possible and takes care of the HDCP issue. But what about the DRM issue? All I want to do is buy and watch HD movies, no bad intentions. I find it incredible that iit might not be possible.
Anyways, is there a 100% certain approach even if it costs up to $300-400. Again, changing hardware is a non-starter so please avoid the obvious "buy an HDMI amp and projector".
    Thanks

Problem with non iPhone users receiving my text sent pictures.  Can I make them smaller files? I know that is possible for email sent pics.

My bad,  It was a Verizon problem.  When they upgraded my phone they were supposed to remove all blocks on messaging . Found out they did not do this.  All messaging now works.  Thanks for listening.

  • Options re: Nike+iPod compatibility with non-nano iPods?

    Hi,
I'm a runner who bought a fifth generation ipod (mainly for running) in late 2005. I am interested in the Nike+iPod system but was disappointed to learn it is only compatible with iPod nano, though many nanos use OS 10.3, like the fifth gen. ipod.
Any suggestions beyond selling the one I have and buying an ipod nano?
    Thanks

    {quote:title=Jeff Bryan wrote:}
The compatibility of the Nike kit with the nano has more to do with the nano being more suitable for running as it has flash memory and not a hard drive (no skipping or moving parts), and is lighter and smaller too. Much more suitable for activity sports. It has nothing to do with the Mac OS version.
Thank you for the reply, Jeff.
I appreciate your points and I don't mean to belabor the issue. I meant to say I purchased the iPod in late '06, which makes it just over a year old. Technically the Nike+ kit was available then, but it was basically brand new and I don't recall being aware of it.
To respond in support of the 5th gen ipod, personally I've run with it well over 500 miles, up to 13+ miles at a time, over steep hills and through heavy rain and skipping has not been an issue once. The same is true for a few other runners I know who use this model. While the nano is smaller, the 5th gen is a good size as well, and a marked improvement over older devices runners used happily for years, so it is far from a critical issue.
There's nothing you can do other than replace your 5th gen with a nano. There are no options to make your 5th gen work with the Nike kit.
I understand and appreciate Apple's making an iPod tailored to running, but logically activity sports would have been considered a key use from the first iPod, and the pre-nano models are suited to this very well also. I am a usually-happy and consistent Apple customer, am just once in awhile annoyed when good (and relatively new) products are not included for compatibility with new systems. It seems to me that the points you mention, while logical, are far from critical, and that a product less than 18 months old using the same OS could easily have been made compatible with the Nike kit.
Thank you again for the reply, I'll forward my thoughts to iPod feedback.

  • Nano 7th Gen resets when I attempt to calibrate niki shoe sensor

I cannot calibrate the Niki Shoe sensor.  As I get close to completing the calibration the Nano shuts down and restarts.  Also, I can never see the calibration of just doing a basic run registering as a run, the data is registering as a walk.  Yesterday during a basic run, the Nano did a restart just before I completed my three miles.
Is this a Nano defect or a Niki Sensor defect?
    Thanks,
    Ray

How do I calibrate or recalibrate the Nike + iPod system?
To learn how to calibrate Nike + iPod system, please read "Nike + iPod: How to calibrate the Nike + iPod Sport Kit" or the Nike + iPod User's Guide.
Ordinarily, the sensor does not require recalibration. You may want to consider recalibrating if your fitness level changes or if you would like to try to improve the accuracy of your results.

  • Problem with Non-English Fields Output to PDF by JASPER in JDev10.1.3

I am using jsprx files(designed in i-report) to generate pdf reports out of an oracle database.
The non-English fields are shown correctly when I output the report into an HTML or when I view it with JasperView.
If I try making PDF files (JasperExportManager.exportReportToPdfFile) the static fields containing e.g.Arabic/Chineese characters won't be displayed and dynamic fields from the database with non-English contents will be shown as ??? or null.
I received some suggestions about using PARAMETERS to feed the report instead of FIELDS, which I think can not be helpful in this case and in general.
I think this should be a common problem. These are the components I am using:

    commons-digester- 1.7.zip
    jasperreports- 1.2.8.jar

  • Text Messaging in Japanese (or other language with non-Roman script)

Is it possible to send/receive text messages written in non-Roman characters with Verizon?
More specifically, I'm using a Droid 2 with Verizon, and I'm trying to text a friend in Japanese.  She has an iPhone (AT&T), and is physically in the U.S. (so I'm not asking about international text messaging).  I've already installed apps on my Droid (e.g. OpenWNN, or Simeji) to input Japanese, which work fine in and of themselves, and the Droid of course displays Japanese text or other languages just fine on the Browser or in E-mails.
However, I'm having lots of trouble with Text Messaging.  When I send a message containing Japanese text (typed in perfectly fine with OpenWNN or whatever), she either never gets the message, or the text comes out unreadable (as ???????).  Messages with a mix of Roman and non-Roman characters typically show the Roman characters ok, but the non-Roman ones (i.e. Japanese) are garbled.  If she sends me a message containing any non-Roman characters, I generally don't get the message at all (i.e. not even garbled-- just no message at all).   This deficiency seems to be specific to Text Messaging, as far as I can tell.  I can send and receive e-mails containing Japanese just fine, read foreign language web pages, and type in Japanese into search boxes on those web pages and so on with the Droid.  However, sending an e-mail message to (myphone#)@vtext.com, predictably, results in any Japanese text being garbled, though Roman characters come through just fine.
Is this perhaps something specific to Verizon's network?  Or is text messaging in non-Roman scripts just inherently impossible?  My friend says she knows others who can successfully text in non-Roman scripts (e.g. Korean Hangul, Japanese Kana or Kanji), and claims some of these folks are Verizon customers too.  A search on droidforums.com yielded someone who supposedly could text in Korean within Verizon.  So, I'm hoping this is possible, and I'm just missing something. However, this is perhaps all secondhand information and rumor.
(Incidentally, I know for certain that messaging with non-Roman scripts is possible in general.  During my last vacation in Japan, I rented a phone there, and could send messages in English or Japanese scripts.  However, I believe the phones there actually have their own e-mail addresses, and so the service there is more like regular e-mail-- my understanding is that text messaging as we know it in the U.S. is a distinct technology, though I could well be wrong.)
So, to restate my question: is it possible to text message with non-Roman scripts with Verizon?  Has anyone out there done this successfully-- if so what did you do, or what app did you use?  Or is it in fact impossible? (e.g. Maybe text messaging here only uses 7 or 8 bits, instead of 14 or 16 needed to encode all the various Asian, European, and other scripts?)
    Thanks for any help available.

I'm trying to figure this out as well, but my understanding on the matter is that Verizon's CDMA network uses unicode which will display, roman characters, loa, thai, and serveral other languages, but not hirigana, kanji, katakana, or simplified or traditional chinese.  The Romaji should work however.  It would be nice to hear some input from a Verizon rep on the subject, because like you my info is all second hand.
If my understanding is correct, the simple answer is no, it's not possible.
