Receiving 8 1/2 X11 scans as 17" X 22"

A colleague of mine uses a Lexmark Pinnacle Pro 901 scanner. She emails me a large number of scans as PDFs that open in Adobe X as long, skinny documents that display as opened at 34% original size in order to accomodate the size. A check of document properties reveals the size to be 17 X 22.
She is a remote colleague of mine so I cannot examine her scanner, and I have failed in my attempts to advise her how to check her scanner settings.
Can anyone tell me how to either have her reduce her scan size OR change the document at my end so that it displays at 8 1/2 X 11?
Not only are these documents awkward to view, but they are very difficult to annotate, or other wise manipulate. (eg use typwriter to add a note).
Thanks so much!!
Sandy

There is a workaround which I think may work for you.
Open the PDF in Acrobat ->Print, select Adobe PDF -> In Page Set-up( at lower bottom) select A4 11.69*8.27-> In size options select "FIT".-> Now click print.
Your PDF with new dimensions is created.

  • Received Alert after installing X11

    Hello all-
I've just installed X11 off of the Tiger install disc and all seemingly went well until directly after the install and I got this alert:
    Alert
You have an existing ~/.xinitrc File.
Windows displayed by X11 applications may not have titlebars, or may look different to windows dispalyed by native applications.
Would you like to move aside the existing file and use the standard X11 environment?
I have no idea what a ~/.xinitrc file is and if it might be important. I've looked for it in the computer and in the forum and no luck. So, what should I do? I am trying to use Gimp (my first time for that as well). Basically I need to know if answering YES to this is potentially going to screw with another application I have installed on my MBP, and there are many. Any and all help is much appreciated.
    Thanks in advance.

Thanks for the quick responses you guys. All seems to be running well now. Littleshoulders your link to Macworld was just the fix I needed, so thank you. And Grant Bennet-Alder you were totally right about the update, I never would have checked for it automatically otherwise and I'm sure it will be needed shortly. Now I can play with Gimp to my hearts content. I'm a happy woman.
Once again, the Apple Support Forum to the rescue.

  • HP 3330 MFP scanning function doesn't work

I have a HP 3330 MFP wirelessly networked to (2) computers via a WPSM54G.  I am able to wirelessly print from both computers, but I am unable to scan from either.  When I open the HP LaserJet Document Manager, and initiate a scan, I receive a message "hp LaserJet Scan Control Viewer...Unable to communicate with the device.  The device is disconnected or powered off."  (The MFP is "on", and if I power the HP 3330 MFP "off" and "on", the result is the same.)
If I connect the printer directly to the computer(s) via a USB 2 cable, the scanning function does not work - since the Linksys printer drivers were installed.  (I also noticed in Control Panel -> Printers and Faxes, there are some printer functions (ie., Scanning, Fax) have been removed - since the Linksys printer drivers were installed on the computer(s); and Network HP LaserJet 3330 (shared) was added as the default printer.
Since the printing function works fine, I'm wondering if 1.) the installation of Linksys printer drivers on the computer(s), removed or altered the HP drivers/scanning function, 2.) if there is a printer driver that will allow the computer/printserver to recognize a scan command and/ or the printer, or finally, 3.) if the HP 3330 is simply not capable of perfoming all of the functions (scanning, faxing) that the WPSSM54G claims it is capable of perfoming...
    Any ideas?
    Thank you for your thoughts.
    saj

Got it working.  The problem was with the firewall (Bit Defender).  Once I turned it off, and connected the print server (wirelessly), the scan function worked like a charm.  (It would be nice - in a perfect world - if when the print server experiences a problem, the Linksys software/ drivers would identify the cause, and at least point you in the right direction....you know, something like "...can't communicate with device, try turning off your firewall")
    Hope this helps someone.

  • Can't Scan to Photosmart 5520 on OSX 10.10

I am trying to scan from my HP Photosmart 5520 to my Mac which is running OS X 10.10.1 (Yosemite).  I used to be able to scan just fine but now that I've upgraded to Yosemite it no longer works.  I can print just fine but scanning doesn't work at all. I  can't scan from the Printer utility (System Preferences | Printers & Scanners | Scan). I can't scan using the HP Scan utility (I receive an error saying HP Scan can't communicate with my device).  And I also can't scan using the scan to printer option.  In fact, I can't even enable the scan to printer option in the HP Utility because I get a message that the software isn't installed despite having just downloaded today the most recent HP software for this device and installing it and ensuring the HP Scan option was selected during installation.
This is incredibly frustrating. I'm hoping someone can help me resolve this.
    Thanks

  • Scanning in Acrobat 9.2 Results in Windows DEP Closing Acrobat

I started having this issue about a month ago and have done some systematic testing regarding this.  First some particulars:
OS = Windows XP SP3, all updates installed and current.
Scanner = RICOH IS330DC with TWAIN driver
Adobe Acrobat Pro 8.x and 9.2 (see S.O.E below for explanation)
Scanning operations were typicaly done through AA using the scanners "Native" interface.  MSOffice Document Scanning was also used.
    Sequence of Events:
Installed WXP aprox. June of 2008, have been installing all updates automaticaly
Installed AA 8.x at the same time, installing all updates as they are released.
Performed scanning operations on a daily basis of over a year with NO DEP errors (thousands of scan operations on a daily basis)
Scanning operations slowed beginning of October of 2009 but still had not received any DEP errors.
Scanning resumed November 5, 2009.  Started scanning process from within AA (Create new PDF from...Scanner).  AA scan dialogue window opened, selected scan button.  Waited for Adobe to open "Native" scanner interface.  Received the following message instead:  "To help protect your computer, Windows has closed this program".
Attempted to scan with AA 9.2 NOT using native scanner interface, received identical result.
Upgraded to AA 9.2, on November 10, 2009
Scanned a document both with and without using "Native" scanner interface.  No change in DEP message.
Attempted to add AA 9.2 to "exclusion" list in DEP settings (OptIn setting).  I did not receive the message regarding DEP "must be enabled for Adobe Acrobat" that some have reported (possibly specific to Vista/W7 installations?).  Although windows allowed adding AA to DEP exclusion list, results were the same. Note that when adding items to the DEP exclusion list, it will only allow the addition of ".exe" (executables).  I have not been able to find a way of adding .dll files or any other extension types.
Scanned a document using MS Office Document Scanning feature and using scanner "Native" interface.  NO DEP MESSAGES RECEIVED.
Scanned a document using MS Office Document Scanning feature WITHOUT using scanner "Native" interface.  NO DEP MESSAGES RECEIVED.
Disabling DEP (AlwaysOff) does resolve the problem but is NOT recommended as DEP is a critical security feature.  As such this work-around is NOT acceptable.
The results of the testing were:
Windows and specificaly DEP are allowing the Microsoft supplpied MS Office Document Scanning utility to use the same RICOH supplied drivers and "Native" scanner interface that DEP is NOT allowing Adobe Acrobat to use.  Simply put, even though in WXP I can add Acrobat 9.2 to the exclusion list, Windows DEP still will not allow Acrobat 9.2 to exectue programs or drivers on it's own.  Which is why I believe this is not a RICOH driver issue but either a Microsoft issue or Adobe issue or most likely Microsoft having an issue with Adobe Acrobat.
Yes, a workaround would be to use MS Document Scanning and right now that is what I am having to do.  However I find it terribly inconvenient that I have to go an extra step to convert thousands of pages of text from tiff to pdf. when I have paid hundreds of dollars for Acrobat to do it directly to .pdf .  Besides, the custom programming and batch job features I use and rely on were developed specificaly for Acrobat and REQUIRE me to use it and not some other utility.  It is simply NOT cost effective for me to use MS Document Scanning and still be able to provide the services I provide.
    My questions are these:
Is Adobe actively addressing this issue?
Why is MS Office Document Scanning able to use the scanner drivers and dialogue window when Adobe Acrobat can not?  Why is MS Windows specificaly identifying secondary code execution by Adobe Acrobat as a problem while secondary code execution by MS office is considered acceptable?
What happened over the last three months that suddenly made DEP aware of Adobe Acrobat being untrustworthy in regards to code execution where as before it WAS trustworthy, at least in regards to Windows XP installations.
Prior to this issue I had NEVER even heard of DEP (again Windows XP user).  Did Microsoft release a DEP upgrade to Windows XP users that we were not aware of?  Did Microsoft include DEP as a new feature in a recent WXP SP3 security update (over the last three months) and this is why we are seeing this now?
Regardless of When DEP was released and for who (WXP, Vista, W7), my questions #1 and #2 are still valid.  Can someone at Adobe please address this?

  • Windows DEP error when scanning in Acrobat Pro 9.2

    Hi--
I scan in Acrobat Pro using create docuemnt>from scanner, via a TWAIN driver.  I upgraded from 9.1.3 to 9.2 recently, last week sometime, and this is the first time I've tried to scan.  If I try to scan, I get an error that Windows DEP is closing the program (note: I don't know why the image below says 9.1, as the version is 9.2).  I triec the DEP settings from the defualt for essential windows programs and services to specifically excluding Acrobat 9.  I also repaired my Arcrobat 9 installation.  I have Windows XP SP3, no new Windows updates are available.  None of those things fixed the problem.  Help!

  • Barcode scan on WPF agentry client

    Hello to all,
I use a barcode scan field type on window screen for WPF agentry client. When I try on our tablet device, user input is not enable but the barcode scan does not work fine. It seems that the field does not recognize the scanning.
In particular we need a input field that receives in input only a scanning and no user input from keyboard.
What kind of agentry field can I use ?
Can I use barcode scan type on WPF agentry client ? There are some restrictions ?
    Thanks in advance.
    Regards.

    Hi,
you may want to have a look at the new OpenScan API. To my knowledge the WPF Client does not support barcode scanners, NFC scanners etc. out of the box.

I have a hp photosmart premium C310.  I can print no problem but have recently tried to scan a document.  I received the message 'Try starting scan from computer.  Refer to documentation details'.  This prompted me to look for the relevent file in order to scan from computer and it appears that the HP Solutions Centre has not downloaded properly.  I have tried to reinstall software but each time the installation stops before it is completed. • Receiving Error - 66450

Hello. I revised a LabVIEW project in 2012 to acquire data and control valves from C Series Modules using the cRIO-9082 real-time hardware. I am receiving error -66450  "The NI scan engine cannot perform the requested operation while in fault mode. Clear all major faults and try again." I went into the project Scan Engine and changed the period from default of 10 ms to 25 ms and it appeared to help but I still get the error every once in a while. I don't want to increase the scan engine period any higher then necessary. Could someone offer a suggestion why I am getting this error and how to fix this problem?
    Thanks, Bill

    Hi Bill,
Do you have any other similiar cRIO setups which you can try on? What happens if you try to restart your cRIO and build a simple cRIO RT project? Let's put aside the code which you have revised. Else, maybe you can try to reformat your cRIO and restart it from scratch and see how it goes.

  • Autocrop multiple images in scans

    Hi
I am receiving a bunch of raw scans and the first thing I need to to with it is cropping them into individual images. We are talking hundreds of photos, with 6+ images on each raw scan. Doing it manually takes time and might not be 100% accurate.  One should think some kind of software was made able to do this automatically (PS plugins?), if anyone have any clue please let me know!
To avoid all confusion I made a quick illustration of what functionality is needed:
I suspect I *might* have to resort to something other than Adobe * - but in desperation I am trying this forum anyway..! It would be GREAT to be able to just do this repetetive work in one batch.
Thanks for any input on the approach to this

As a follow up, to automate the whole process, I found a script that processes entire folders and outputs crops in a sub-folder. Incredibly useful for my project. In case anyone want to know here is how to batch process:
    1.
Copy the script in this thread (I used the jpeg one):
    http://forums.adobe.com/message/3430842
and save it out as a .jsx, load it into photoshop from file->scripts->browse
    2.
Follow instructions and let it process.
Credits to Robdogg and Paul Riggot (as with "all" scripts it seems) for the work, thanks a bunch!

  • Scan to Email Application not found

    Hello support,
I'm having a problem with the Scan to Email program. When I use the HP Scan app and I want to make an Email as PDF, the app starts to make the scan, but when i want to send it to my email i receive the error that the Scan to Email Application is not found. The HP Scan application cannot find an email application installed on the computer.
On the computer we have a local installation of Lotus Notes. Is it possible that the program doesn't work with Lotus Notes? And is there a way to make this work?
I made the Lotus Notes program as default email program on the desktop.
Can you please help me with this problem?
    With kind regards,
    Leedur

    Hello,
If you are initiating scan to email using the printer front panel, then your printer need to be connected to Internet ( Web services should be enabled ). After which the printer would prompt you to key in the recipient email address before you touch SEND.
If you are initiating the scan to email using the printer software ( HP Printer Assistant ), then you need have an email Client ( like MS Outlook or Mozilla thunderbird ). The software would open a new compose email with the scan pdf as attachment .
