Receiving a email to iMessage

I would like to receive emails from a computer to my iphone 5 via iMessage, is this possible to do?  It only needs to received I will not be replying back, this is only to monitor the status of some computer systems.

You are trying to get this to group into a single thread, correct? Unfortunately, if the device (computer) that you are sending from has to send as a text (SMS), then you are going to get the IDs that you list. That has to do with the way that the AT&T server identifies the text as coming from a computer. A lot of the advertising SMS or SMS groups that you subscribe to also show.
To expand on what one of the other posters stated, why not do this as email. That will thread the responses. Does this inability to email have to do with your data allowance, or does it have to do with the capability of the system that you are receiving these notifications from?
I belive the only way that you could get even close to what you want was if you had a Mac computer that was capable of iMessage, and had that send the iMessage to your phone. However, even then I'm not sure that the program that you have to report these status messages would be able to access iMessage.
I used to get server messages in the past about computer errors/status change messages and those were delivered to email because of the configuration of the reporting device. I think that email is going to be your best bet, and an email account that supports push, if these notifications are that important/critical.

Make sure the pdf has the '.pdf' extension on the file name. I've seen this a few times and adding the extension usually solves the problem.

  • How do I remove my phone number from iMessage so that I could only send/receive via email?

I Need to do this because my postpaid line has recently been disconnected and after updating to IOS8, I couldn't activate iMessage anymore. I know that everytime we active iMessage and Facetime the carrier sends an international text to Apple for activation; so I'd like to temporarily delete my mobile number (since it won't activate yet) and only send / receive via email - so I can still use iMessage.
I Couldn't tick on the number because its greyed out.
Hope someone can help me. Thanks.

I spoke too soon. I tried Facetime again last night and had the same problems. Another factory reset did not work. I think it may be time to just call Apple support.

You can take a look at this support document for troubleshooting iMessage and FaceTime activation. If you have difficulty activating FaceTime or iMessage - Apple Support
I believe with the iPhone, you need to have a SIM installed, since the activation sends an international SMS to servers in the UK. Check to see what that support document states.

  • I received .mov via email and iMessage and quicktime tells me it can't open and to click tell me more for help

I tried to open .mov from an email and imessage and quicktime says it cant open and to click tell me more but then it doesnt give any information. Ive never had a problem opening videos made from an iphone and emailed before. These arent long clips.

i downloaded Quicktime 7 on my imac but it still wont open?
MOV refers to the file container. (MOV is the generic Quicktime file container.) Unfortunately, there cam be many different problems here.
    1) People with different system configurations can place audio and/or video data not compatible with your system into MOV files, send them to you, and they will not play if you do not have the proper codecs installed for the QT 7 player to play them. Therefore, it is normally recommended that you determine what audio and video compression formats were used to create the original file. If the files do not open in either the QT X or QT 7 players, then you can check the file's "Get Info" window to see the the Mac OS X Finder recognizes the compressed data format(s). If it doesen't, them you can try opening the file in an alternate media player like VLC (free download) to see if that play can open, play, and/or tell you the compression formats. Lastly, if an app like VLC can't help you, you can download a generic media information app like MediaInfo (also a free download) to examine the file.
    2) Once you know the compression formats use in the file and the Mac OS X version, and QT player being used, it is usuall a simple matter to determine if the compression format is supposed to be compatible with the QT player used for your Mac OS X or IOS device. This will tetermine whether or not the file can be played natively or must be converted to a different compression format for playback
    3) In a very small percentage of cases, it may turn out that the file sent to you is either correpted or violates a security update installed on your system that prevents plaback. In the case of a corrupted file, about the only thing you can do as request the file be resent to you and hope for better results. In the case of a security problem, the file may be playable and/or convertable by a third-party application that gets around Apple's security trapping that prevents playback.
    4) In the future, if you have problems opening or playing a file, please be more specific as to the nature of the problem. Specify the specific modal message you are getting or describe whether the player quits without a message, crashes, or will not open under one user account but does open under another.
and how would you resolve this issue on your iphone but updating quicktime player?
Your original message did not indicate that you were trying to play the file on your iPhone. Since the QT 7 player better handles the playback of "legacy" compression formats—especially under Mavericks—many users are advised to install the QT 7 player to handle compression formats no longer playable by the new AVFoundation software embedded in Mavericks. In addition, the QT 7 player is supported by an older 32-bit structure embedded in the Mac OS X v10.6, 10.7, 10.8, and 10.9 operating systems which can still access third-party codecs if your system is configured for their use—another reason for keeping QT 7 installed on a computer system. Unfortunately, such options will not fix blayback problems on an IOS device where it is normally easier to convert unsupported compression formats to natively supported compression formats—primarily H.264 video with AAC audio in MOV, MP4, or M4V file containers.

  • Haven't been able to receive any email today

Is the network having trouble today? I haven't been able to receive any email on my iPhone today at all. It just says "checking mail" with the spinning wheel. I can access the internet, phone, and voicemail functions, but no mail. I have regular mac mail (no gmail or yahoo) so I can get my mail on my mac laptop, but not on my phone. Was working fine yesterday...any clues anybody? I did the big update last week and it has been working fine till today...

If you registered your iPhone with Apple using a support profile, try going to https://supportprofile.apple.com/MySupportProfile.do and unregistering it.  Also, try changing the password associated with the Apple ID that you were using for iMessage.

hi guys, i just a 4s and i setup imessage, but on my imessage settings it says "receive at email" and it wouldn't give me a option to put in my phone number. can you guys please help through this, thanks

Than perhaps you don't have your mail system configured properly, such as a missing "smart host" or missing smtp relay in your sendmail configuraiton, or perhaps security options on your smtp gateway, or a networking or DNS issue, etc, etc.
I suggest to try sending a normal e-mail and check the logs to make sure that it works, before troubleshooting the script.

  • Friends on Android galaxy do not receive my emails with attached photos sent from my iPhone.  Why

I have an iPhone 4 running 6.1 OS.  Several times I have taken photos with my iPhone and then tried to email them from my iPhone to friends using Android Galaxy.  They never receive the emails. When I select the photo to be emailed from "Camera Roll", several options appear  (Mail, Message, Photo Stream, Twitter, Facebook etc).  I select "Mail", then select an email address from my contact list, add some text to the message, select the size of photo and send.  The email with attached photo is never received.  Any idea why?

Well, your response about MMS is beyond my understanding unfortunately.   Don't understand too well this issue of MMS and IMessage. I checked my settings and "Send as MMS" was OFF.  I have turned it ON and tried to re-send the photos.  No word yet if it was received..  Also, the "send and receive" addresses in the "Messages" setting only included my "@me" email address, and not my Yahoo address, which I am trying to add.  It doesn't seem to be able to complete the verification process for that Yahoo address (it remains in a perpetual state of "verifying"), although it did add an "icloud" address, and my cell phone number.   I have my "cellular data" turned OFF because I am in the States (I am Canadaian) and wish to restrict roaming charges.  So are you saying that I cannot send photo attachments in emails from my iPhone, while connected to the in-house internet modem/router - ie., that I can do so only if my "cellular data" setting is ON?  Then why do the messages still appear in the SENT folder?  Do the settings on the recipient phone have an impact?  It doesn't seem so because they were able to receive the messages from the PC/Hotmail source.

  • I'm not receiving all of my iMessages?

    Hello everyone!
I've ran into some trouble with iMessage. This isn't the first time and I doubt it will be the last. I've heard a lot of people have been experiencing problems with the IOS 7 update, so hopefully I'm not alone. I'm not receiving all of the iMessages that are sent to me by other iPhone users. According to them, the little grey "delivered" stamp appears underneath their message and as far as they know it's been sent and I'm just ignoring them. I missed out on a party that I would've really liked to go to and no one at Apple Tech can make up for that. As I previously mentioned, this has happened before but it was easily remedied by switching iMessage off and then activating it again. I've tried that again, to no avail. I also removed my Apple IDs from my other Apple products, took my email off of the send and receive list, and reset my network settings. I spoke to someone at Apple's Support Chat who offered little to no insight.
I'm about to turn off iMessage for good. Any suggestions before pulling the plug?
*This is my only phone associated with my current number

Check your spam folder.  Before I completely gave up on Verizon mail I used to find about 10% of the legitimate emails ended up in the spam folder.

  • Received an email saying someone used FaceTime w/my ID

I upgraded the operating system on my iPad 2 to iOS7 earlier today and then received an email tonight saying that my ID was used to sign in to FaceTime and iMessage. Said if it wasn’t me then I should change my password. I didn't actively sign in to either of those today, but is it possible or likely that those sign ins occurred when I set up the iPad again after the upgrade?
I appreciate any help with this.
    Jim

No. It's phishing. Please forward that email to:  [email protected]
Never click on any links in the email.
Apple will never send you an email such as the one you received.
Changing your password immediately was the correct thing to do. Change your password on a timely basis for security.

  • When sending/receiving an iMessage (from gmail address) how can I then receive or access my iMessages on my actual gmail account/inbox?

When sending/receiving an iMessage (from gmail address) how can I then receive or access my iMessages on my actual gmail account/inbox?

    Hi,
The Messages app can join 5 different services.
The "iChat Originals" that include AIM, Jabber and Yahoo (although they were added at different times to the app)
The Bonjour account that has been present for LAN based Mac to Mac chat and lastly the iMessages account in the Messages app that iChat has become.
Google email IDs can be used as a Jabber ID in Messages as Google run a Jabber server.
As the Google server does not follow conventional naming formatting it has it's own Add option in Messages.
Effectively all the services are separate.
Any email used as an Apple ID can be the iMessages account.
Of course this may be a Google one like you have that can also be used as  Jabber/GoogleTalk ID or it may be an Apple issued ID (@mac.com @me.com or @icloud.com) that will also work as a Valid AIM Screen Name.
It may be that someone has their Yahoo email as their Apple ID.
