Receiving an error message: An unknown error has occured (1415)

I have had a shuffle unit for a few months without issue. When I changed tracks the last time, my ipod shuffle no longer played music when pressing play (changing volume settings, etc.). I have followed the 5 R's successfully until I get to the last 'R'estore step. When I go to restore, the subject error message comes up. It also appears that there is a unadentifiable file on the ipod as 320 KB of space shows to be used up when no tracks appear on the ipod (having tried to delete them all).
Any help/guidance would be greatly appreciated.

I have not read anything yet about this error code in the combination iTunes and Mac. It could be Windows specific.
According to the comments on this and this page it is similar to error 1417 and the solution presented there might work for you. It seemed to work for some people experiencing a '1415'.
You have more change to get an accurate answer by searching or posting in the iTunes for Windows forum however (I guess you accidently posted in the Mac forum).

Lots of 1415's in the iPod forums. Search for 1415 in the iPod forums and you may find a solution.

    I had the same problem so (assuming under the Purchased items in the Store you have a song stuck at 'Downloading'):
    I went to Music, then Artists.
    From there I chose the album.
    The song that failed to download had the cloud symbol next to it.
    I clicked the cloud symbol and the song completed the download for me.
    (Please note this was in iTunes for Windows - I expect it to be similar in iTunes for Apple)

    First try killing Words. When on the home screen double press the HOME button, then swipe the screen image of Words up to close it.
    Next, reset your iPhone by holding HOME and SLEEP until an Apple logo appears. If the problem is not resolved delete the app from your phone, reset the phone again, then reinstall the app.

    Are you using a proxy or a VPN to connect to the internet? If you are, this is possibly the reason why. I suggest using anothe connection which is not a proxy.

    "Today I was in an Apple Store, and four Apple Geniuses could not solve this problem. It seems to have something with large iPhoto Libraries, because when I started iPhoto up with a small library (1,100 photos), the problem did not occur. In iTunes, under the Photo's option "Sync Photos," if the iPhoto library is large (38,000 photos), the option to select the radio button "Selected albums, Events, and Faces" is grayed out, and you cannot select it.
    My guess is that since the large iPhoto library will not fit on your iOS device, iTunes throws the 1140 error.
    As others have noted, if you uncheck "Sync Photos" in iTunes, the rest of things will sync instead of throwing the 1140 error message.
    But you don't have synced photos then.
    The Apple Store told me they have no solution for this error. We should file iPhoto Feedback, and that this issue has been escalated to Apple Engineering."

  • Unable to log on with apple ID - error message "an unknown error has occurred"

    When I try and log on to apple website using my apple ID, I get an error message saying "an unknown error has occurred".  How can I fix this?
    I've changed my password several times and was able to successfully make a purchase from Itunes using new password, so I'm not sure what the problem is.

    For whatever reason, I can now log in to the apps store with one of  my ids. It says my other account no longer exists so I can not update pages and numbers. It will not let me rebuy these programs under the working account because my computer recognizes that I bought them before.
