Receiving billing calls for previous owner

One of our lines is getting either billing calls or scam billing calls for the previous owner of one of our numbers.  Is << removed >> actually a Verizon billing number?  I've Googled the number and can't tell if it is a scam or not.  This number keeps calling and is very annoying.  Blocking the number does not seem to work on the phone.

Let's check into this, kerrccaz! I know it's important to understand your options for managing incoming calls. While I was unable to confirm the source of the number, I want to be as helpful as possible in this. We do have a few options available to block incoming callers http://vz.to/KQCmRY. It's very unusual that you won't be able to block the phone number via your my Verizon account. Did you receive any type of error message when trying to do so? Please share.

Find My iPhone Activation Lock- Removing a device from a previous owner’s account
Only the former owner can remove the Find My Phone lock and erase the device. That can be done remotely. Without this the device is useless to you because it will be permanently locked.

  • 2nd hand iPhone 5s. Prompting for previous owners apple ID on restore.

    Hello,
I recently bought an iPhone 5S 2nd hand. I was told that the person selling it had recieved 2 for Christmas and so was selling one. I have since got the phone and noticed that although the previous owner had deleted messages, contacts etc he had evidently used it as his Apple ID was still logged in and call history, emails, photos and music was left on the device. I restored the iPhone so that I could wipe it and set it up for myself but on restore I am being asked for the previous owners Apple ID in order to proceed.
I now believe the previous owner has probably sold his own iPhone and then probably plans to claim it was lost / stolen so that he can get a new one on insurance. I have contacted the seller and asked for a refund / his Apple ID details but he has not replied to me.
Is there anything I can do about this?
Thanks in advance for any help!
    Thom

Ah this is really depressing. I think the seller falls into both the idiot / scammer camp. I think he plans to claim it lost on insurance and therefore get a new phone while keeping the money he mad on the sale. I don't think he realised that I wouldn't be able to use the phone and therefore this fuss would be kicked up.
I've contacted the seller for a refund and said I'd have to contact the police if he didn't reply so hopefully he gets in touch so I don't have to go down this route but the fact I've yet to have a reply makes me think he is going to go quiet.
Luckily the emails he left on the phone include a CV with his contact details / address on so I'll be able to at least give the police further details. I've made it clear to the seller that I have these details so hopefully he'll come through.
    Thanks for your help.

  • Clean Install done but still showing updates required for previous owners apps needing apple id?

    Hi All,
First time post and newbe to Macbooks so be gentle please... :-)
I have bought a second hand macbook pro retina, the previous owner had removed all his data but not reformatted. I was having issues that some apps updates were showing that i couldn't update, as it kept asking for the previous owners ID. I thought the best thing to do was to reformat and start again to get a frsh machine...
First issue after wiping the drive was that when i went to install the OS, it came up saying i didn't own a copy, as it was the provious owner who had installed the OS.... so after buying Mountain Lion under my account (still not sure if i needed to???) i was then able to install a new OS. Went through all the new user screens to set time and keyboard etc so i assumed i now had in effect a new machine.
Again though, when i went to update the software, the previous users apps, that no longer appear on the machine, were showing as needing an update, and again were asking for the previous owners apple id to update????
How do i get this sorted so i have a new machine without the history of a previous user, his apps and the required updates?
I was also worried that after the fresh install i seem to have lost iPhoto, garage etc... i thought these came as standard, am i going to have to buy these also?
Hope someone can help, desperate to get myself properly up and running and enjoying my new toy!
    Rob

Selling Macs has become rather messy what with the different license requirements.....
if the Mac had ML preinstalled, then the owner is allowed to make a one time transfer of the OS license; however, he needs to wipe the drive and use internet recovery to reinstall the system without using an Apple ID
If, however, the Mac came with something other than ML (SL or Lion), then the seller needs to wipe the drive and reinstall the original system because any license obtained from MAS is NOT transferable.
So, if it did come with ML originally and unless you wish to contact the seller, try internet recovery - pressing Command + Option + R while restarting ( a slightly different process than recovery) , wipe the drive in Disk Utility and download the OS. It should work - if not, I'd suggest a quick visit to the nearest Genius Bar and ask for help (reminding them that the license does allow a one time transfer).
As for any other apps, you will need to purchase them (such as iLife, iWork, etc) - none of those licenses are transferable. If you encounter a problem doing so, you might want to address that issue at the Genius Bar as well; you do need to buy them again, but in some instances, someone testing that scenario was not able to, so just be aware that there might be a glitch.
Edit: In order to do an internet recovery, you will also need to make sure that you are connected only via WiFi.

  • The message on my iphone 4s delivered late and I can't receive any calls for some time

It's almost 6 months since I've encountered this problem. I already requested my carrier to have my iphone 4s replaced
and a series of testing was done to my iphone 4s before they found out this it was defective. Now, I have my new iphone 4s but
the same problem was again encountered. The message delivered late and sometimes messages aren't received at all.
Though I have a complete network bar as seen on the upper corner of the screen, incoming calls aren't received and out
of coverage area. Hope you can help me on this.

My brother had this issue, was the carrier. He had a company called Metro PCS, texts and calls would have the same issue that you are having. Given it's a new phone, it's gotta be your carrier.

  • Turn off Find my iPhone for previous owner?

I purchased my iPhone on eBay from someone selling theirs a week ago.  Today I received a message from them, asking that I turn off "Find my iPhone" for an hour so he can switch his iTunes account.  Has anyone heard of this before?
I suggested that he log into his iTunes account to remove it from his account, but his reply was that Apple support told him to do this.
Is there any possible harm that can come from me turning this setting off for an hour?

DON'T DO IT. Assuming that the phone is not still locked to his account, there is no possible reason that you would have to log out of your Apple ID for him to do anything for his.

  • Prompting for previous owners account when downloading free App updates

Hi, this is my first time here so apologies if I don't follow correct protocol! My brother in law gave me an iPhone 3G 2 weeks ago after using it himself for a couple of weeks only.
I have a new iTunes account and have synched calendars and contacts ok. I have removed all of his content from iPod on the phone and now have only the tunes I have purchased from iTunes on my phone. I have purchased and downloaded apps, and downloaded free apps ok. My homepage tells me I have 3 free updates to download, but when I try to do so it prompts me for my b-i-laws iTunes password. have tried to do this when logged into my iTunes account and when not and still can't get past this issue. Only happens with free updates. Can anyone please help me? Thanks.

I worked out the solution to the problem - remove the free apps my b-in-l had downloaded that there were updates for; reinstall them under my account.

  • Looking for previous owner

bought clean iphone 5 but has activation lock

You have no way to know if it is lost or stolen. The fact that a message doesn't show does not definitively indicate that one way or the other.
You have been sold a device that is unusable. Take it up with the seller. A reputable seller would check the devices before selling them to unsuspecting customers. This is on the seller - not Apple.

  • I just bought a used iPad 2, how do I change the previous owners info for the app store? Whenever I try to buy an app it asks for the previous owners password for the iTunes account. I have my own account Nd would like to use it.

Need help Changing the previous owners settings for the app store. I can't buy any apps. Because it asks for previous owners information.

I had this same problem, and it was erased.
For some really odd reason iPads sometimes retain the last user iTunes account on first visit to the iTunes store.
I am thinking it is actually the iTunes store recognising the iPad, and so 'helping' by showing the last log in settings.
So I would also recommend Erase All Content and Settings to start.
If that was done then what you need to do is log in, or create your own itunes account.
    This is in Settings, Store.
create your own iTunes account (or log in with an old one).
    Purchase something.
Then (as long as you don't have any app from the last owner on) it should never ask for the old account again.

  • HT5622 How do I erase the Apple ID for this IPads previous owner. When I went to update one of the games it asked for his  password?

HOw do I erase ID for previous owner. I was asked for that PW when updating a game?

The content on your device that was downloaded with previous owners I'd will be forever associated with that I'd.
It would be best for you to restore the device to factory settings and make it your own.
    How to restore
    Via itunes

  • HT201441 what if previous owner is not present and cannot delete the cloud

I have iphone wth icloud logged in with previous owner so when i restore the phone its askin for previous owners icloud id and i cant find the previous owner is there a way to start phone as a new one

Yes, that means you cannot use the phone without the previous owner removing their AppleID.
The IMEI and ICCID are useless to you. Only the AppleID password of the previous owner would help.

  • Post here if you have received a call from BB only

Let us know if you have received a call for an appointment or just to come in.
If you know how many iphone 4's they received.
What number you were in line.
    What model(gb)/color you ordered.

I was the 2nd person in line that day and some how I got bumped to 3rd and that the people in front of me ordered a total of five phones.  She didn't give me models.  So I called and asked to speak to a Manager.  He took down my information and said he would get right back with me.  About five mins later He called back.  He stated that he had my phones there and he was looking at them.  He never explained how I got bumped down.  But, did say that a rep. from the mobile department would call and set up an appointment.

You don't. It will have to be removed by the owner of the account that was used to lock it.

  • I am receiving previous owners Bills.

I moved into this house 6 months ago and have been receiving the previous owners bills ( my bt bill is paid regularly by direct debit) - I have forwarded bills to him and also informed BT of his new address - have today received bill (which I opened inadvertently) to previous owner demanding payment straight away or will be passed to debt collection agency - which will affect credit rating.
Have informed Bt previously of his address and have rung again today with the new address -   I do not wish my property to have this debit against it and my credit rating to be  affected if the previous  owner is refusing to pay the bill owing on the property that I now own - can you please help.

    Hi Burgil,
AFAIK the credit rating is applied to the person not the address so this should not aafect your cerdit rating at all.
That said I am sorry that you are still getting the last residents bills.
Could you drop me in an email please with your BT account and telephone number along with a link back to this thread and I'll take things from there.
Just send to the email addy in my profile with an FAO Craig in the subject field.
