Receiving calls while in text screen

I have a Curve, and if I am reading or writing a text in SMS the phone will not ring to notify me of a call, nor will it indicate "missed call." If I am reading or composing an email, an incoming call interrrupts and I can choose either answer or ignore. How come I can't do that while in the SMS screen?

I have the Bold 9650, so the options may be a little different, but if I go into the Options, Sounds and ringtones, then profiles, and set alerts for chosen profile, text messages - at the bottom is a checkbox to "Notify me during calls" - it's buried kind of deep into the menus, but it's there. Mine is unchecked by default, but my LED goes off so I can see an incoming call that way.

My phone will no longer make or receive calls and I can't text after upgrading to iOS 8.1.1. I've tried everything except chucking the phone out the window. Any ideas? What else is there to do? I can't get a new phone for another year.

My wife is having the exact same issue after updating to the new iOS 8.1.1 and we've tried all the same steps even restoring the phone as a new phone. We've contacted our service provider and they've told us to go to apple to potentially "remove" her serial number from their servers to allow it to work properly on the service we have. We are desperate as purchasing a new phone right now is not an option and she desperately needs her phone for work and life.

I have had signal problems since I have got this phone which is an s4 my wife s3 mini gets better signal while at the same location. Tried everything customer service doesn't know and now I can't even make or receive a call. I can though send and receive text and use data but when I try to make a call it just says dialing then quits. Anyone trying to call says it will ring until voicemail but I never got the call. Can anyone help

Yikes! I want you to be able to make phone calls on your cell phone! I would recommend what others have stated on here as well. Remove the sim card for a good 30 seconds while the phone is off. Then try to make the phone call again. Have you ever replaced the sim card on your device before? Can't receive calls while on the internet...

I've noticed that while I'm on the internet I can't receive incoming phone calls and I SOMETIMES receive texts. Does anyone else have this problem? Is there a setting I can change so I receive all calls and texts??

When actively accessing the internet via the EDGE network, it is likely/common for an incoming call to be missed and go straight to voicemail - it isn't possible to place calls when doing the same either. This is an EDGE limitation but doesn't apply to WiFi access.

Receiving call while in the middle of a "sync opperation.

the other day, I received a call on my iphone 3g while it was in the middle of a sync opperation..
the GUI on the phone wouldn't allow me to accept the phone call...
the "syncing" progress status was displayed on the phone with no way to answer the incoming call..
is this intentional? can't use the phone app while there is a sync in progress? If so, maybe it's better to send the call straight to vmail rather than frustrate a confused customer with a phone that's ringing but can't be answered.. Many people might be inclined to cancel the sync, and pull the phone off the USB cable to answer the call (which is exactly what I did).. and probably not the best thing to do for the data integrity of the syncing process.

yeah.. that works here as well..
still seams inadvisable to cancel a sync operation midstream.. lots of things don't cancel all that "elegantly".. though maybe this one does fine...
I think my questions of
1) was this apple's intent that we cancel the sync operation to answer an incoming call?
2) during a sync operation is the iphone incapable of running the phone app in parallel with a data sync? or is it just not showing the "answer incoming call" Gui, because instead it's "showing you" the syncing progress dialog on top..
3) could they just make the answer incoming call button pop up on top and then you wouldn't have to cancel the sync?

In the short time I have had this phone there have been three occurrences where the phone will not receive calls or SMS (the screen shows full carrier signal). This usually lasts a few hours after which you get a whole lot of missed call SMS from the carr

If I notice this problem (eg. someone calls me on another phone) and I make a call from my phone to someone else (which DOES work) then all the missed calls and SMS will come through. Almost as if the phone put the cellular radio to sleep and only wakes it up when I try to make a call.
I havent called Apple support yet, thought I would see if anyone else was having similar problems with their 5 (or maybe IOS6).

For some reason we cannot receive calls when people are trying to reach us through our Skype number...
When people call the number it goes on to voicemail... which, furthermore, does not send me a message telling that I've got a message on voicemail untill hours after...
We are losing customers on this problem every single day so I would really appreciate a fast answer on this one !

You didn't mention what you are using Skype on - a computer, smart phone, or other device.
In Skype's privacy settings, you will need to allow calls from anyone on your Online Number(s). This is not enabled by default, but needs to be in order to receive calls while you are logged into Skype.
If you are using an Apple i-device (iPod Touch, iPhone, iPad), you have to go into the Notifications part of the Settings, and add Skype to the Notification Center. Then turn on an alert (banner across the top of the display, or a larger visual alert in the center of the display), and also enable the other 3 options (Badge App Icon, Sounds, View in Lock Screen) to get the Skype app to ring for incoming calls.

Unless you are connected to an available wi-fi network, or a 3G network when doing so, you can't place or receive calls while actively accessing the internet. You can receive a call while actively accessing the internet when connect to a 3G network, and you can access the internet during a call when connected to a 3G network. This is not supported with EDGE or GPRS.
