Receiving emails sent to myself from Mail

For educational en printing reasons I often have to send files to myself via email. Emails sent from my own address using Mail don't ever appear in my Mail inbox.
They do however appear in my Mail inbox when I use the regular Internet browser to send myself emails via my Gmail account.
Can this be fixed?
Also, can someone tell me why Mail is putting emails sent from the Gmail application (on my Nokia E61) in my Mail inbox? I thought that maybe this Gmail app sends sent emails to the Gmail server and then to my Gmail account, and Mail just registers these sent/'saved' emails as new mail. That would make some kind of sense.
Kind regards,
Billy.

These are all Gmail issues. Mail has absolutely no bearing on them. Gmail POP access doesn’t work like a normal POP mail server would. Here are some of its idiosyncrasies:
1. Messages downloaded by any conventional POP mail client are marked as downloaded at the server (but not as read on the web), and no longer available to either the same or any other POP mail client.
2. To make already downloaded Gmail messages available for POP access again, you must go to Gmail’s Settings > Forwarding and POP page, select Enable POP for all mail, and click Save Changes, which will cause everything (and I mean everything) still there to be downloaded again. Alternatively, if you only want to download the last 30 days of mail, you can configure Mail in “recent mode” as described in How should I use POP on mobile or multiple devices?.
3. The Mail > Preferences > Accounts > Advanced > Remove copy from server settings have absolutely no effect on the messages stored on Gmail’s server. Gmail ignores any requests to delete messages from the server made by a POP client. What happens to the messages on the server after a POP client has downloaded them is determined by Gmail’s Settings > Forwarding and POP > When messages are accessed with POP setting alone.
4. Messages created and sent using the web interface will be downloaded by your POP mail client as if they were incoming messages. Although this may seem weird, it's good because it allows archiving all messages locally in Mail, regardless of how they were sent — as long as you don't access the same Gmail account with more than one POP mail client, that is. You can set up a rule in Mail to automatically route those messages to the appropriate Sent mailbox (or to any other mailbox for that matter) if that's what you want.
5. Messages created and sent using a POP mail client such as Mail are also treated as if they were incoming messages for POP purposes, just as in 4. What prevents them from being downloaded is that Gmail marks them as already downloaded immediately. They would, however, be downloaded if Gmail settings were changed as described in 2 above.
6. As a particular case of 5, messages sent to yourself will appear in your Inbox on the web, but cannot be downloaded by either the same or any other POP mail client without proceeding as described in 2.

  • Received emails are being deleted from Mail but still showing on webmail!!

Hey people! I wonder if anyone can help?
I hope i'm not missing something really easy here. A couple of weeks ago i thought i was deleting emails from my inbox and then from my trash with no problems and then imagine my surprise when i get a message saying that my mailbox is almost full and i can't receive any messages.
I promptly logged on to a webmail site and entered my details and was greeted with every single email i have received since i got my new mac!! I have rebuilt mailboxes to no real effect and was just wondering if anyone can offer a solution? After all i don't really want to keep having to log on to webmail to delete all my items every few weeks.
Just to add, my email account is with BT and is NOT a .mac account!
I look forward to anyone helping me please?? I'll wash your car in return or something
    iMac G5 Core Duo 2GHz Intel   Mac OS X (10.4.5)   1.07GHz G4 iBook + Dual 2GHz G5 both running 10.3.9

Is the account a POP type account?
If so, go to Mail > Preferences > Accounts and under the Advanced tab for the account preferences, is "Remove copy from server" selected? If yes, what is the setting below?
I use "Right Away" for my POP accounts.

  • Several hour delay in receiving emails sent from mail?

for 3 years i've had a pop email account with yahoo and it has worked flawlessly with my apple mail program until a few days ago when people started telling me that the emails i sent took several hours to reach them. so, using mail, i sent myself a test and confirmed the delay. emails i send immediately appear in my "sent" folder yet they don't reach their intended recipients until hours later. this problem is intermittent. there was a brief window the other day when emails i was sending from mail were arriving quickly. but, the problem soon returned and persists now. the problem does not affect the receiving of emails with mail. in other words, i am receiving all emails with mail. the problem only affects emails i send using apple mail.
when i access my email account directly through yahoo to send emails, those emails arrive immediately.
i hope i have described the problem clearly enough and i thank the community in advance for any insight and/or suggestions.

If you select a message in Mail's message viewer, then select the menu item View > Message > Long Headers, the message headers will be displayed. Depending on how the message was routed, there may be several "Received" fields - these get added at each mail server that handles the message. Each "Received" field contains information such as IP addresses, host names, dates, and times - these can be used to tell how the message was routed and how long it took. Note that a sender can fake, or "spoof", their information (usually these are spammers), but once the message reaches real-world servers the information will be correct.

  • One Yahoo! mail account does not receive email sent from .mac

OK, this is an odd problem, and any help would be appreciated.
My girlfriend's Yahoo! mail account does not receive email sent from my .mac address. If I send email from my Gmail or Yahoo! accounts she receives the message. No one else has informed me that they haven't received email from the .mac address. Additionally, the .mac account is in her address book.
Anyway, has anyone seen a similar pattern with Yahoo! or any other email provider?
    Thanks.
    - Jennings

Thanks for the reply . . . and yes, the recipient's email provider likely holds the answer.
However, I was hoping someone here might have had a similar experience and could answer as the email provider is Yahoo, and they are slow in responding to help requests . . . for a period I hosted a personal, paid website through Yahoo Domains and help tickets lingered for several days on multiple occasions (this being the reason the site is no longer hosted by Yahoo). I also doubt Yahoo will expend too much energy resolving a problem for a free email account.
Anyway, I posted in the Yahoo mail forums, and hopefully something will come-up . . . .

  • Gmail cannot receive email sent from SBO-Mailer

    Dear All,
I can receive emails from SBO-Mailer to my company email. My colleague can also receive email sent to her company email. However, I can not receive email if it is sent to my gmail or hotmail or yahoo. Did I miss something?

    Hi,
You may try to use this sap note solution if probably you are interested to use gmail smtp :
SBO Mailer doesn't work in Login Authentication mode
    Symptom
You test connection in SBO mailer with Login Authentication mode unsuccessfully and the error message below is shown:
    Login authentication failed. or
Login authentication not supported by SMTP server.
Also, you fail to send emls in SAP Business One with Login Authentication mode.
    Other terms
    SMTP
    Reason and Prerequisites
    Consulting
    Solution
This is usually because of wrong settings in SBO mailer. Gmail for example, you should set as the following:
    SMTP Server: smtp.gmil.com
    SMTP Port: 587
    Username: ***@gmil.com
    Password: ****
    Encoding: English (United States)
    SMTP Client: Microsoft .NET
    Authentication: Basic Authentication
    Use TLS Encryption: Yes
If you choose Microsoft .NET as SMTP Client, the "test connection" button in SBO mailer is invalid but it can still send emails in SAP Business One.

  • Can't receive emails sent from Windows Mobile

After much troubleshooting, I've found that I can't receive emails sent from Windows Mobile users. I never noticed the issue until recently, but I can't pinpoint when the problem began: Leopard 10.5.2, Mail 3.2... not sure.
When a Windows Mobile user sends me an email, it just doesn't show up in my inbox. It does show up in a web client, my iPhone, and in Thunderbird, so I know the mail is being delivered to my mailbox on the server. However, there is no corresponding message located in ~/Library/Mail, so it looks like the message isn't being downloaded from the server. I have emails before and after the stubborn email message, so it hasn't interfered with anything else that I can tell.
Anyone else been able to pinpoint this issue and figure out a fix or workaround? Anyone have any ideas?

I am experiencing precisely the same issues. Messages from Windows Mobiles v.6 (more than just a single handset) are not being displayed in Mac Mail 3.2
I have tried rebuilding mailboxes and changing the IMAP port connecting with Exchange server. The mail is there as I can see it in Outlook, OWA, and OMA
Similar situation to you in that I have no idea when this started to happen, but it can only be in the last 3-4 weeks max.
Please, if anybody has a fix or workaround, or knows what changes have been made to Mac Mail in the last few weeks.
    Thanks in advance.

  • Why some emails sent with OS X Mail is not delivered, and if I send the same e mail from the website of my hosting provider, to the same recipients, they are delivered?

Sometime, when I send an email with my Mac Book Pro, i receive the message:
Hi. This is the qmail-send program at smtplqs01.aruba.it.
I'm afraid I wasn't able to deliver your message to the following addresses.
This is a permanent error; I've given up. Sorry it didn't work out.
But if I try to send the same messagge, at the same email address, from the web site of my hosting providere, ther are not problem...
    Someone can help me?
    Thanks!!!

Could be a number of things, among them the fact that the recipient's inbox is full, or his/her ISP email server is a bit slow at hand-shaking with yours, and this of course can vary depending on the fact that the recipient's account is IMAP or POP.
When you send an email from a webmail, the grunt work is done by the SMTP server, and it's up to it to manage the multiple requests, their number, their frequency, their routing, etc... When you send an email from your Mail app, it'll send it once to your SMTP server, who'll process it a certain number of times before giving up, but you'll receive only one failure message.
If the recipient's an Microsoft Exchange account, you must know that those servers sometimes send and receive email in bulk, and at a variable refresh rate, hence the "Sorry, your email couldn't be distributed...".

  • Are emails sent automatically stored in Mail?

    Hello,
In setting up a Mail account there is an option in Mailbox Behaviors to check "Store sent messages on the server." If, like me, you have an IMAP account should this be checked or not?
With an IMAP account, if it IS checked does that mean email sent is ONLY stored on the server? And if it isn't checked does it mean it's only stored in the computer?
I'm confused because I thought with an IMAP account mail sent and received is automatically stored in both places. If that is so, does it make a difference whether it's checked or not?
    Thanks,
    iHope

You can try checking it, but depending on your provider it may, or may not do this task. My experience with Yahoo does not, but it seems to be "on this Mac" in sent.
(It does not seem to make any difference whether if if is checked or not when sending from my Mac, if sent from the web mail, they seem to be saved. This what seems to happen on mine, yours may be diffferent. I have no further explaination.???? They always seem to be stored on my Mac Sent.
Try it for yourself to see how it performs, send yor self some emails, and check to see where they are stored.
It also seems to be less pedicable with additional devices connected to the same acct.
I wait to delete till I have confirmed all the sent and received, then stored on my Mac before deleteing, that ay be for this provider only, as well as this extention. My suggestion is to test extensivly to confirm for your usage. There may be more advice/info from other users.

  • How to receive emails i already read from gmail online

I cant receive the emails I already read from gmail online, maybe because they have been marked as read. Cant mac mail download emails including both read and unread? Thx!

You can either set Gmail to automatically forward any mail you get to you IP email account so everything gets downloaded when you do a 'get mail'. Or, you can set up POP or IMAP settings within gmail for your IP account, set up a new account in Mail's prefs and tell it to bring in Gmail's messages, so when you do a 'get mail' everything comes down.

  • When I receive emails why doesn't the mail icon on the bottom of the home page indicate I have mail.  Only after I go into my mail do I find out I have mail.  My Blackberry always indicated when I received new emails.

I was wondering if the mail icon on the bottom of the home screen ever indicates that I have mail.  It isn't indicating and only after I open up my mail does it show that I have received emails.  Is there any type of indicator that is supposed to be on the mail icon that shows I have mail?  Thanks

Mail starts up wherever you last left it, or should do without any changing of settings.

  • I received email purporting to be from Apple customer support about my account. Is this spam?

I have received emails about my account. I am suspicious. Are they spam?

I am not an expert on spam but I got the same email yesterday and today. It appears to be spam to me and when I am suspicious I never click on any links in the email. Just go to the apple website in your browser and sign in as usual and check but never click on any links in emails to be safe. I seriously doubt that Apple would send out emails showing multiple addresses which is why I think it is spam. That is my 2 cents worth.
