Receiving faxes - printing vs not printing

Weird thing just happened. I have my G5 set up to receive faxes, and rather than printing out faxes I have them saved as a pdf and e-mailed to me. It's been working fine for a long time now.
But I just received a fax that printed itself out on my Brother All-In-One. Only a half-hour ago I received a fax that saved to pdf properly, without printing, so I know that my settings are in effect and I haven't done any updates or configuration changes that might have changed that. And I just checked Printing/Faxing in System Preferences and my settings are still selected correctly.
Is there any way to figure out how this happened, and to stop it from happening again? Both faxes were junk faxes, and I like for faxes to NOT print out precisely because I don't want to waste paper and toner on all the junk faxes I receive.

Hi @CHP0801
Is Telstra an ISDN, ADSL, PBX, or VoIP line? If so, please take a look at the following document to ensure you have the fax connected correctly; How to connect your HP Fax Device to an ISDN, ADSL, PBX, or VoIP line.
If the issue persists, and/or if Telstra is not an ISDN, ADSL, PBX, or VoIP, please use the following document to troubleshoot the issue; Cannot Send or Receive Faxes: Troubleshooting Fax Issues.
I hope this helps.

  • Print extra blank pages & problem receiving faxes

Hi -- My Photosmart C7280 All-In-One begins most printing jobs by printing out a blank page. Also, if I'm printing multiple pages, many of them will be blank (but the document prints in entirety) It doesn't matter if I'm printing a Word document (which I know has a conflict with HP, and which I also know does not have a blank second page at the end), or an attachment to an e-mail, or information from a web page, or even pritnting an envelope.  In fact, I have to let the envelope roll through blank, wait for the error message that there is no paper in the tray, then shoot it through again before I'll receive a printed envelope. Also, if I'm copying multiple pages I'll receive the extra blank pages, but not if I'm copying pages one at a time.
Also, I used to be able to receive a fax automatically.  The call would go to my recorded message.  As soon as it ended, the incoming fax was recognized and it would print.  It doesn't do that any more.  I have to manually pick up the receiver of the phone before the machine will begin receiving the fax.
My HP printer is on a network.  I can't remember if it still worked or not after we placed it on the network.  Also, I recently downloaded IE 8.
This has been frustrating me for months, but have not had the time to seek help till now.

I have the same problem - print a document and a few seconds later a blank page comes out....  Any ideas?

  • Fax Server will not print faxes

I recently setup a new fax server on Windows Server 2012 using (3) USB fax modems. I'm able to receive faxes and route them to a e-mail address or store them in a folder. However, one of the modems needs to print the fax but this routing method is not working.
I've verified the printers are working correctly by printing some local documents. I've also restarted the fax and print spooler services. I've also checked the event viewer but cannot find any errors or warnings in the logs.
    Thanks for the help.

    Hi,
Based on your description, I understand that you configure Incoming Fax Routing methods. However, it didn't work when use Print method.
Please refer to following article and check if configure correctly.

My printer receives and prints my e mail but not the attachments. How do I rectify this?

    Hi robgpearce,
Your issue could be related to the file type or a setting with the file. In the help section of ePrintCenter.com, it goes into details on how the HP ePrint service does not support printing webpages via email at this time, HP is currently developing dedicated solutions to support webpage printing from mobile devices. Image files (like jpeg, bmp, tiff, etc) need to be at least 100DPI in order to print via ePrint. PGP encryption, digitally signed documents, macro-enabled spreadsheets and password-protected documents are not supported by ePrint at this time and will not print.
If I have solved your issue, please feel free to provide kudos and make sure you mark this thread as solution provided!

  • Won't automatically print received faxes?

    Hi all,
I turned on the fax option on my powerbook G4 today. I can send and receive faxes fine. The problem is that when I receive a new fax, it doesn't print. I checked off the box in fax and print setup to automatically print any received faxes, but it doesn't. The printer is hooked up to the airport extreme base station like it has always been. I can manually open the received fax and then print it out, but it is supposed to print out automatically when the fax is received. I already tried unlocking the padlock and resetting the print automatically setting, but it didn't make any difference. Can anyone help with this? I really need this to work.
    Thanks
    -Tom

    Hello again,
I got it to work finally. I didn't realize that you had to specify the printer in two places in the fax preferences. Now it is working fine.

    Hello there @51823MollyP!
Thanks for posting on the HP Forums!
I should be able to provide some help regarding the fax feature on the Officejet 4630.  Depending if your phone line is digital or analog will depend on the configuration of the fax portion of the printer.
I was able to located a document regarding Cannot Send or Receive Faxes.  I suggest following the document to ensure your fax machine is configured correctly and using the correct type of phone cable.

  • MFP M127fn can not received fax from sleep

I already upgraded lastest firmware, turn on fax event, the printer is connected directly to a wall outlet but still not working.
There is no option to turn off auto sleep feature.

I am having a similar problem. Once the printer goes to sleep, I cant get it to wake up even if I press the screen or power button on the printer itself. The only way to get it to print once it goes to sleep is by unplugging it and plugging it back in.

  • HP 7612 not receiving faxes

We've had an HP 7612 for months now and all of a sudden it's not accepting faxes. Rings once, makes a tone and shuts off.
Checked the settings and did a fax test and all looked good. What could be the cause?

    Hey @tamwolfe,
Welcome to the HP Support Forums!
I would like to assist you today with resolving the fax receiving issues you're experiencing with your HP Officejet 7612 Wide Format e-All-in-One. I understand that you have already checked settings to no avail. Thank you for also including that the fax test completes with no issues. At this time I'm going to walk you through some additional troubleshooting to resolve this issue.
Just so you are aware, faxing is old analog technology. However, nowadays Phone Companies use digital lines rather than analog. Digital lines should work just fine. However, there is a lot more static noise and interference on those lines that can cause intermittent issues when receiving faxes. Usually the digital interference doesn't affect sending faxes. If this machine was working for a period of time and suddenly stopped than there is a chance that the Phone Company updated something on their end that has caused additional interference. Our ultimate goal here is to suppress as much of that static noise interference as possible to allow for reliable faxing.
    Step 1: Disable ECM:
Error Correction Mode is a setting that is turned ON by default on your printer. This setting will cause your machine to stop receiving faxes should interference be detected. I am going to have you disable this feature to force faxes to receive.
On the touchscreen for your printer right arrow until you see the Setup menu (wrench)
Touch Setup to access this menu
Select Fax Setup to access the Fax Setup menu
Right arrow to Advanced Fax Setup and select it
Right arrow to Error Correction Mode (ECM) and select it
    Disable Error Correction Mode
Have someone fax you now to ensure that receiving is working again. Should you still be experiencing issues please continue to the next step.
    Step 2: Lower Fax Speed:
As I previously mentioned, digital fax lines can cause a lot of interference for fax machines. With digital phone lines the technology is much more advanced than on analog lines. The transmission speeds on those lines can also cause packets of information to be lost, resulting in a fax communication error when receiving. To correct this issue I am going to have you lower your fax speed.
On the touchscreen for your printer right arrow until you see the Setup menu (wrench)
Touch Setup to access this menu
Select Fax Setup to access the Fax Setup menu
Right arrow to Advanced Fax Setup and select it
Right arrow to Fax Speed and select it
Change the Fax Speed to Slow
Please try receiving a fax again on your machine to ensure that the interference issue is resolved.
Note: If you are using a DSL Phone Line you will need to have a DSL filter on your fax cable to cut down interference. Also, avoid splitters or phone cable extenders as they can contribute to the interference issue.
Please let me know if the steps I've provided resolve your fax issue. I look forward to hearing from you. Good luck!

  • Laser jet pro CM1415 will not send or receive faxes

I just bought a MAC OSX 10.9.5 and downloaded upgrades for my laser jet pro CM1415fnw printer plus the firmware upgrade from HP website. The printer will scan and print but will not fax. we are set up for wireless and I have spent the last 2 days trying to figure this out. The message says that no phone line detected. ??? This printer worked perfectly with my old MAC computer but is bing very obnoxious now.
Thank you for any help you can give me. collette

    Hi @dumtech ,
I see that you are unable to fax with the new Mac using 10.9. I can help you with this.
Did you mean you downloaded and installed the Full Feature Software drivers?
HP LaserJet Pro CM1415 Color Multifunction Printer series Full Feature Software and Drivers.
Are you trying to send a fax from the Mac or from the printer's control panel?
If you can't fax from the Mac, try the following:
Check to see if the fax driver is installed.
Click the Apple menu, and then click System Preferences.
    Click Printers & Scanners.
    If not, the + sign.
Select the printer from the list.
Beside USE: make sure it lists the printer's name only/fax.
    Click on the add button.
Check the driver name that is installed for the printer. Make sure it shows just the printer's name also.
If the full printer name isn't listed correctly, delete it and add the printer name back in from the list. Click the - sign to delete the driver and then click the + sign to add the driver, might have to click the drop down to select the printer's name to add it in.
    Try faxing again.
If you can't Fax from the Printer, please try these steps:
Make sure you are using the 2 wire fax cable.
Run this test for the fax.
From the Home screen, touch the wrench button.
    Touch the service button.
    Touch the Fax service button.
    Touch run fax test.
    You should get 4 passes.
    Turn the private receive off:
    Go setup/fax setup menu/advanced setup/private receive/turn it off.
    Turn off the error correction:
    Go setup/service /fax service/error correction/turn it off.
Change the fax speed to medium:
Go to setup/fax setup /advanced setup/fax speed/change it to medium.
    Clear the saved faxes:
    Go to setup/service menu/fax service/clear saved faxes/OK to clear.
If you are still having issues, then please follow the steps in this document.
    Cannot Send or Receive Faxes.
Can you fax from the printer?
Was the fax and printer driver both installed?
Were you able to fax from the Mac?

  • OS X 10.4.11 will send but not receive faxes on Power Mac G4 MDD

OS X 10.4.11 will send but not receive faxes on my Power Mac G4 MDD. Perhaps I should remove the relevant .plist preference file(s). But which one(s) is it /are they? Or is there something else I should do?

Thank you for your reply, BDAqua. I have set the fax feature to answer after 3 rings, but the phone rings only once when someone is trying to send a fax. The phone icon in the menu bar changes to "ringing ..." but nothing more happens. The phone line on which I receive faxes is dedicated to that use. I phoned in to its number earlier today from another phone. I heard it ring once and then it went to the busy signal. I then disconnected the fax phone line from its wall jack, connected a phone to the jack, and phoned in to it. The phone now rang and rang as it should. So this confirms the assumption that the fault is in the computer, presumably in the Print & Fax software. I should also mention that I don't find com.apple.print.FaxPrefs.plist in /Library/Preferences.

  • Hp 1040 fax prints blank pages

My hp 1040 fax machine receives faxes via the distinctive ring feature. No problem receiving the calls and feeding paper, but pages are printing out completely blank.

Hello there! Welcome to the forums @efalk ,
I read about your 1040 Fax printing out blank pages. I would suggest resetting the machine and if that does not help, call HP directly for your best options.
Press the Power button to turn on the product.
With the product turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the product.
Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
    Wait at least 15 seconds.
Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet.
Reconnect the power cord to the rear of the product.
If the product does not turn on by itself, press the Power button to turn it on.
