Receiving Mail (2 Accounts)

I have a quick question about mail. I have my work email set-up and nothing changed in the last year on my end. Just started noticing today that I was not receiving mail but it was making it online to my "smartermail" host. I set-up another account in mail and that one is working and able to send and receive. Any ideas?
I have about 11k messages in my inbox for my work email. Is it something related to the app or my ISP/Hosting company?
thanks,
j-

I set-up another account in mail and that one is working and able to send and receive.
This other account that you just setup, is it the same email address as the one that seems to not be working, or a different email address?
It's entirely possible that your Mail preferences have become corrupted, so you can test for that by going to ~/Library/Preferences and moving the com.apple.mail.plist file to your Desktop, then restart Mail and setup those accounts again and let Mail find your existing mailboxes. If that solves your problem then we know that old file was corrupted and you can delete it from the Desktop.

  • Why can't my dad's OSX-10.8.2 receive mail - Comcast account?

My DAD cannot get MAC mail from Comcast account as of yesterday, even tho it worked before.  He has been on Comcast for hours and his password and the POP port etc. are all correct for that account, including smtp, authentication, etc.   He was with APPLE for hours too, and they didn't solve it at all, despite a big reboot process.  Again, mail sends, doesn't receive on the Comcast account.  The cloud account works fine.
Note: The wierd part - he can hear the mail be delivered with a noise on his MAC, but no mail can be found in the inbaox.  Also,  his mail is sending.  Does anyone know what happened?  Why was it working before?  Why no mail receiving now?

Hello, I had a problem with Silverlight when installing 10.8.2, and that's why I found this topic.
I solved by going (again) on this page with Safari: http://www.microsoft.com/getsilverlight
It turned out that it installed the version 4.1 of Silverlight instead of the most recent (which is 5.1).
I opened Terminal and used "sudo rm -rf " on the following items: (although only the first one was installed)
    /Library/Internet Plug-Ins/Silverlight.plugin
    /Library/Receipts/Silverlight.pkg
    /Library/Receipts/Silverlight_W2_MIX.pkg
    /Library/Internet Plug-Ins/WPFe.plugin
    /Library/Receipts/WPFe.pkg
(You find the same list in the "Uninstalling Silverlight" tab in the website above).
When I opened the page with the "wrong" version of Silverlight, a message showed up telling me that the latest version was 5.1 and not 4.1 which I had installed. I then downloaded the right .dmg.
You can skip all of this by going to a site that provides you with the latest .dmg directly. Such as this for      example: http://www.macupdate.com/app/mac/26623/silverlight

  • Cannot receive mail from .Mac account on port 143

I use my laptop at work. I used to have a 12" Powerbook G4 running OS X 10.4.3. I had no problem receiving mail from my .Mac account. Now, and all of a sudden, I can no longer receive my .Mac mail using the Mail app. The error I get is:
The server "mail.mac.com" refused to allow a connection on port 143.
I called AppleCare about this issue last night and they told me to perform the following steps:
    1. Choose .Mac in System Preferences and delete my username and password from the Account tab.
    2. Move com.apple.mail.plist and the Mail folder from my ~/Library folder to the desktop.
    3. Restart the Mail app and re-import the Mail folder from the desktop. I was told not to directly copy the Mail folder from the desktop into the ~/Library folder.
    4. Go back into .Mac in System Preferences and re-enter my account information.
According to AppleCare, things should now work. But there's a little problem with this "solution." I spoke with my network admin and he told me that incoming traffic on port 143 is blocked. That being the case, I fail to see how any of the above steps will solve my problem. It seems nothing more than an issue of trying to get my network admin to open port 143 and he seems reluctant to do that.
    Any feedback would be appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Richard

I've solved this problem. Well, actually, I didn't do anything other than:
    1) Rebooting my computer, then...
    2) Following the instructions at the top of the following thread to re-create my email accounts (I had two):
    http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=1598309#1598309
Not sure what this fixed, and how I got into this issue in the first place.
I had four or five days worth of email to come in... it took...
    ...a...
    ...long...
    ...time...
But its looking like its working.
A few things I tried, and although they didn't have an immediate effect to fix the connection refused problem, they might have kicked something to start something working again:
    1) Created a new 'test' user on the system, restarted, logged in as that user, and started Mail.app setting it up with .Mac settings (it was after this everything worked)
    2) Changed SSL ports in the accounts settings (no difference)
    3) Turned firewall on and off (no difference)
    4) Attempted to use Thunderbird to read .Mac email as IMAP mailbox (didn't work)
Hope this rather obvious help helps anyone else

  • TS3276 Mail account set up. Can not receive mail-Everything is green in Connection doctor but when checking activity it shows stop signs.  Was able to receive mail until last week  then all of a sudden stopped receiving mail but no changes were made.

My mail account has been set up and working to send and receive mail for several months.  All of a sudden I can not receive mail.  The connection doctor shows all green lights.  No changes have been made and nothing has been changed on preferences on IMAP and SMTP.  I can send mail.  My other accounts all send and receive mail.  When you click on activity the list shows stop signs. All accounts show that they are online.

    UPDATE:
I deleted all the messages off the server of the offending email address and everything works fine now.

I have 3 mail accounts in apple mail. One of them has had the spinning ball going for several days and I cannot receive mail in this account or delete messages etc. For some  reason, I CAN send mail on Apple mail using this account, although it takes several minutes. I can receive mail in this account on my iPad and by signing into aol on safari and internet explorer on my office PC. It's obviously a glitch in Apple's Mail. I've deleted this account and reopened it in Mail on my Mac Pro with no difference. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated, this E amil account is major to my business.

    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3276
sounds like a corrupt database or index
the glitch is your home folder and mail folder, esp look at syncservices
I'd post in the mail or Lion forum where you will find similar issues being discussed.

  • How can I set up my mail account to receive mail?

I have a brand new imac i'sight 3.06 Ghz, 500GB etc. I have added my UK hotmail email account to the mail application and I am able to send email directly from the application from my hotmail mailbox, but when i press 'Get new mail' the bar flashes and shows that I am receiving mail but I cannot see it in the inbox.
    Can anyone help?
I can send email, but I cannot see email in my inbox.
    Thanks
    J

I don't have Hotmail, but generally, web based email accounts need to be set up within that account (in this case Hotmail) - you need to go to your Hotmail account and check if it can be set up as an IMAP or POP account with emails automatically being forwarded to Mail. Hopefully someone with a Hotmail account will chime in with more specific info; in the meantime, check out the options in your account there.

  • I can no longer receive e-mail messages through my @mac/@me account. I can still send e-mail messages, though. I believe there may have been recent attempts to hack into my account. I have changed my password, but wonder how to start receiving mail again?

I can no longer receive e-mail messages through my @mac/@me account, though I still seem to be able to send messages. I believe there may have been recent attempts to hack into my Mail account (my LinkedIn and Facebook accounts were both hacked three days ago and a scam/phishing message sent to my contacts, and I know there was at least an attempt made to hack into one of my e-mail accounts). I have already changed my Apple password, but how do I start receiving mail again?
(And I should also say that I'm a little surprised there was no alert from Apple of suspicious activity on my account, if such was the case. Instead, when I logged into my account via Mobile Me three days ago I noticed that all messages in my inbox were gone as well as all of my contacts. I assume this was related to the current problem.)
    Thanks for all responses.

The problem has been solved with the help of a MobileMe online counsellor. My MobileMe account had in fact been hacked into and the fraudster had been redirecting my e-mail messages to a phony account that he controlled. We took the forward off and reset all my passwords and security questions, which solved the immediate problem.
    Thx.

  • After I downloaded Yosemite I can no longer send mail with my google account only receive mail

I installed Yosemite and I wish I had waited , I can now receive mail on my google account but can't send

My laptop works fine but that still has maverick on it any help would be appreciated.
I have already deleted all my mail accounts and rebooted but no luck after reinstalling mail as per laptop installation

    Well, it happened again.
This morning I was sending out a bunch of emails and around the 10th one they started kicking back.
This time I did not fool with any of the settings on my computer.
I turned off both the modem and router.  Started them back up and the problem still exists.
The last time this happend, about a week ago, it started working again within an hour.
This problem ony crops up when I am sending many emails at the same time
Throughout the rest of the week it works fine.
This time I by-passed the router and the mail will go out.
So it looks like someting is going on with the router.
Whenver I hook the router back up, outgoing mail will not work.
It says it cannot send mail using my server.
I double checked all of my mail setings and nothing has changed
I also did a hard rest on the router, but it did not help.
Again this problem is with 2 computers.
I have an early version of Airport Extreme Model A1143.
    It's around 5 years old.
Whenever I call my ISP they claim everything checks out on their end and they don't offer any help.
I am sure if I leave the router unplugged for a day or so, it will start working again.
Is there any way a router can break down and allow incoming mail and internet but not outgoing mail?
I am am at wits end with this problem.
I would be willing to go out and get the latest Airport Extreme if I knew for sure it would cure this problem.

Google them to confirm the settings that you need for the outgoing server, then check the setting you entered on the pad.  Pay real close attention to the outgoing server name, and port.  You may need to change in on the pad.

  • Am I backscattering?  and non mail user accounts having mail received.

10.6.4 Server fresh install on a new Mac Pro. I have configured our mail server using only Server Admin. Junk mail is set to be redirected to the junkmail account and not bounced.
FIRST ISSUE - am I backscattering? In looking at the logs I see what looks to me like attempts by our server to notify a presumably forged sender that their message was being turned down by our server. The log listing below for 1 message as an example uses the term bounced once each for the destined user (who is set NOT to receive mail in WGM) and our postmaster account.
I am seeing lists of delayed items in the mail queue in Server Admin > Mail > Maintenance > Mail Queue. All of those messages are going from the Mailer-daemon to the presumably forged FROM: address of items delivered to our junkmail account.
SECOND ISSUE : The requested user in this example does not exist as an email recipient on the server. Shouldn't the message be refused outright? These messages are being accepted by the server and Server Admin > Mail > Maintenance > Accounts keeps showing mail accounts for the user here and another user that are the server is not accepting mail for. If I delete the account in Server Admin window above, they return again within a day or so. Ideas?
    Thanks for looking at this.
