Receiving mail in Outlook Express 5

I have an IBOOK OS 9.2 from 2001, with Outlook Express 5, which Microsoft no longer supports. Cannot send or receive mail currently. I think mail may be blocked by receipt of an email with 4 photo images. How can this be fixed?

Over the past few days I have talked to several levels of Tech Support at AT&T DSL Mail, but none of them could solve the problem. They basically gave the same answer that you got: Outlook Expreses v5.0.6 running on OS 9.x is no longer supported. However, I pointed out that the AT&T Support web site still says Application: Outlook Express and Operation Systems: Macintosh (all). The last tech I talked to said he would put in a request to change the web page. He told me that AT&T put in higher levels of security (SSL) on their servers to cut down on SPAM. This causes the problems with older email clients on both PCs & Macs.
However, I did a Google search of alternate email clients for OS 9.x and found one - Eudora v6.1.1 @ http://www.eudora.com/techsupport/kb/2350hq.html
Eudora works. You can import all of your OE names/addresses and emails. The user interface is totlly different from OE so you need to download the user manual @ http://eudora.com/techsupport/kb/2515hq.html

  • Mac OS 10.4 Mail takes longer to receive than on Outlook Express 5

I receive email via Outlook Express 5.0.6 within an hour (but hate to use it). It can take Mac OS 10.4.8 Mail up to 24 hrs longer. Mail Preferences are set to: Check for new mail:” Every 30 min.” Under Accounts>Advanced: “Enable This Account” and “Include when automatically when checking for new mail” are both checked. The ISP is Comcast. What is the problem?

We have the same problem. The user rights under Leopard are not interpreted correctly while the Tiger clients show the correct entries. I´ve posted another topic to that thing...

  • Stopped receiving emails in Outlook Express.

Two days ago I suddenly stopped receiving emails in my Outlook Express.
Outlook Express is configured to receive from my old Orange address which has never been a problem. Thinking it might be a problem with my Orange account, I checked with them and they assure me my account is still active. (I regularly log into my Orange account to keep it active.) Everything's been working fine for the past 2 years.
None of my settings have been changed. Outgoing mail is mail.btinternet.com, and incoming mail is pop.orangehome.co.uk.
I have just realised that around the time this happened I got an email in my Hotmail about changing from Hotmail to Outlook. When I opened this it said thank you for switching to Outlook, and then instead of being in Hotmail I was suddenly in Outlook! It didn't even ask me if I wanted to or not. But I noticed there was an option there to switch back to Hotmail which I did immediately.
Of course, I don't know if it was that that stopped my Outlook Express from receiving mail. (I can still send mail from Outlook Express.) But it's the only thing I can think off and it does seem an odd coincidence.
I've tried doing a System Restore back to the day before this happened, thinking there might have been a registry change or something which could be undone, but this didn't help.
I'm now at my wit's end and panicking a bit. I'm a disabled pensioner, living alone, and rely on Outlook Express for all my financial and shopping stuff.
Does anyone have any ideas where I might go from here?
    Thanks.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Solved!
It was Orange's fault. They no longer require the @fs appendage at the end of the account name in Outlook Express account properties.
    Wish they'd told me.
    Phew!

  • Cannot receive message in Outlook Express

I recently (for the first time) accessed my ISP's e-mail service. Since then I have been unable to receive messages in Outlook Express although I can send them. When I check for new messages I do get a connection but no new messages. Some of my messages are diverting to my ISP provider's e.mail service. I have checked all my account settings etc for OE and they look fine. It was all working perfectly before. Any ideas, help would be appreciated.

    Hi to all
Well, the Outlook express is a part of the Windows OS and if you want to reinstall it you need an original Microsoft Windows CD. The delivered Toshiba recovery CD proffers only the whole OS image. In this case its not possible to install only the Outlook Express. You have to recover the whole OS.
I know its not the optimal solution. You can try to use the system restore tool. Then you can roll back the OS to the early point.
But if it doesnt help, the recovery procedure is the last chance.

  • How can I read my incoming emails in one folder?Like I do in Live mail and Outlook express.

Now we can only read emails in different folders if I am managing multiple email accounts.
It does not feel so comfortable as we use Live mail and Outlook express.

'''Unified Inbox for pop and Imap mail accounts:'''
If you use the Unified folder view, this will show an Inbox with all emails from all accounts, with sub folder Inboxes for the individual Inboxes for the various accounts. Then you can choose to view the collective Inbox or the individual Inbox.
This method can be chosen simply and quickly.
    * View > folders > Unified
'''Setting up Pop mail accounts to use Global Inbox.'''
Pop mail accounts can be set up to use a Global Inbox in Local Folders.
Imap mail accounts cannot be set up to use Global Inbox, but can use the Unified view.
To change Pop mail accounts to use Global Inbox, you would need to move all emails into Local Folders Inbox.
Then change the settings for each pop mail account.
Tools > Account Settings > Server Settings for the pop mail account
    click on 'Advanced' button
select 'Inbox for a different account' and 'Global Inbox (Local Folders)
    click on OK
You need to do this for each Pop mail account.
Then close Thunderbird. You must do this before downloading anything otherwise the emails may continue to go to the wrong Inbox.
Wait a few moments for Thunderbird to fully close and then restart Thunderbird.
Please read more info on global inbox here:

  • Can I read mails in OutLook Express in Java ?

    Hi Guys,
Just curious if I can access mails in Outlook Express in Java.
    Thank you for your consideration.

If memory serves (OE is heavily outdated, haven't used it in years) OE stored its messages as flat text files in a directory on the user's harddisk.
Reading those files should be child's play.I checked my system and there are only .dbx files created for each mail folder (my filters).I am using Outlook Express 6.0.

  • Can't send E-mails using Outlook Express on WRT300N

Hello, I searched through the forums to find problems similar to mine, but everyone had a different router than mine, plus none of the solutions worked for me.
I just purchaced and installed my router yesterday. Since the install, I have not been able to send e-mails using Outlook Express, but I do recieve e-mails. I am using the WRT300N Wireless-N Router.
Trying to get my local news service up and running, and right now, e-mail communication is vital........
    Thanks.

Well of course, but the error message says socket error, which doesn't tell how to fix it. Even the Outlook Express help site doesn't give any suggestions to fix anything, other than "Your internet connection has failed," which is not the problem.
To the disable firewalls suggestion: I did try disabling my firewalls and all of my virus/ e-mail scan software just to check it out. The thing is, I don't see how my Windows XP Firewall, or anything I've been using could be a problem. Right now, because of the error all my sent e-mails are stuck in the outbox, when I disconnect my router and connect everything back up leaving the router out of the picture, the e-mails are sent out as normal. This problem only occurs with the router connected.
I also need to stream live audio, and I've heard it's a pain using a wireless router...
Thanks for the suggestions, hopefully someone will provide the winning suggestion so I don't have to call customer service!

  • Transfer mail from Outlook express 6 on Windows XP to Mail on iMac

I want to transfer mail from Outlook express 6 running under Windows XP to Mail on a Macbook Pro running Tiger.
I have a network set up and can access the outlook identities, but neither Entourage nor Mail will recognise the entities when I try to use the import function. I suppose they are looking for outlook express 5 which runs on Mac OS 9.
Is there a way to do this. I would think that if Apple is keen for people to move over to Mac, this would be an area which will be a concern to a lot of people.
    Thanks

  • Cannot read my E-mails in Outlook Express anymore as they now appear as Firefox webpage attachments, how do I rectify this?

I use outlook express to download my E mails from gmail and used to be able to read the content of the email in Outlook Express. The content of my emails has now disappeared and been replaced by two attachments, one Firefox HTML which has the content of the email and a text file which also has the a content. How can I return to the original format of Outlook express?
    Many thanks
    Stuart

Does this only affect new mail you download, or does it affect older messages as well?
If it only affects new messages, is it possible that you've made a change that indirectly affects emails, such as new security software (spam filters or virus filters that intercept and check mail as it's received)?
If it affects older messages as well, there might be a problem with Outlook Express (how it is decoding HTML messages). In that case, if you haven't tried restarting Windows, you might try that first.

  • Mail To Outlook Express on PC

I am having problems sending graphical attachments to a friend of mine who has a pc. He is running OE, and when he receives a message, the file I sent as an attachment embeds itself, and doesn't show up as attachment he can save.
Any ideas on how to fix this?

Ok, now the problem has spread. I not only can't send to this one user on the domain (ranchovistachurch.com), but now another user on the same domain is having the same problem receiving mail from me. Both are on Windows machines using Outlook Express, and they are using the same ISP (Cox)
So, I tried sending from another email address from another domain (my email: steve-at-steveeller.com). Same problem. Yet, everyone else I know can receive mail from me. The problem is I work with both of these guys, so it makes my work communication a problem. When I send them emails they never get bounced back either.
They are receiving email from my gmail account, but only when I send it through the gmail page. If I try to send it through apple mail, they don't get it.
I also had them check their junk mail to see if I was filtered out, and no to that.
Could this be an Apple Mail problem? My IP address?
I never had this problem until a couple of weeks ago. Your help is appreciated.

  • I need to use Outlook Express to apply for jobs and I either don't have it but when I try to send an e-mail on Outlook Express, it won't go through and gives me an error report.....I really need to be able to use Outlook Express to apply for jobs. Help!

When I try to apply for job and when I try to e-mail my resume' and Outlook Express comes up to reply to on, I put in my information, etc but when I hit send, it doesn't go through and says? POP and then error report and doesn't go through.

I can't provide a solution with or without the error message, but without an error message, you are making everyone guess at what you see. I have no idea what you see, and I think someone who might be able to help you solve your problem would need to know what that message says. Is "Outlook Express" (Windows Live Mail) your default email processor, if not what is?

  • Can't send or receive mail from Outlook

just purchased a wireless router and hooked up recently. Can access the internet & outlook express but can't get my mail from outlook which is my main email account. Message says can't find exchange server. I can access Outlook from my laptop wirelessly at work but not at home.
    Any suggestions?

checked the ip address of the computer when its connected to the router using the command promt.(example.....ip address: 192.168.1.100; Default Gateway:192.168.1.1).
Open an internet browser (ie, mozilla, netscape,etc.). Type at the address bar the default gateway (192.168.1.1). and you will see a username and password promt for your router. Leave the username blank and use admin for your password, if it doesn't work use the password you setup the router to..
Once you see the setup page.... you'll be at basic setup sub tab under setup. Look for MTU. Set it to MANUAL and LOWER IT TO 1300.  Save the settings. Check your outlook if its working....If its Does't work do this
Go to Applications and Gaming tab.
Look for a port triggering sub tab. type it this way
Application NameTrigger Port RangeIncoming Port Range
    application       triggered range     forwarded range
    E-mai                 l25 ~ 25                   113 ~ 113
forwarded range is equevalent to incoming port rage...
hope this will solve your concern....

  • Can send but not receive mail in outlook 2013

I just started to have the same issue. I have multiple PC's all running outlook 2013 and one of them just stopped receiving mail.
The others work fine, and yeah I check that it is set to receive mail in the options, along with many other typical tasks  like dissabling the av.
This is on WIN 7 pro.
I have uninstalled office. Deleted my ost and pst. Reinstalled office and re-created my mail account.  Same issue. There must be some other setting in my profile or registry that is persisting
I am about to go back to Office 2010, I have already gone back to Win 7 after a terrible experience with 8.1 and its media centre licence issue and lack of driver support (which worked under WIN 8!!).
Seriously Microsoft! Do you just hate people?

    Hi,
What is the account type? Exchange, IMAP or POP3? Is it working fine to receive emails on Webmail(OWA)? It is preferred if you could provide any error code/message.
The first thing that should be checked up is if the account has been setup properly, you may need to contact your ISP(Internet Service Provider) to get the information you need to setup the account.
If you press Send/Receive All Folders button, can you get new messages? Please go to
    SEND/RECEIVE tab -> Send/Receive Groups ->
Define Send/Receive Groups -> For All Accounts, under
Setting for group "All Accounts", set Schedule an automatic send/receive every "X" minutes, we can set
    X as you need.
Please create a new profile to test if the issue persists:

Why don't you try disconnecting your Internet connection.  This may delay things enough that you can stop the email in its tracks.
