Receiving system mail

Hello,
I have just switched from Ubuntu. I'm very impressed with Arch. It's so fast! But just a quickie.
In ubuntu I installed the postfix package and I was able to receive system mail in thunderbird. I just selected movemail account type in thunderbird.
Is their anyway to do this on Arch? I have been through some wiki's. I installed postfix and fetchmail but i'm just lost. I have thunderbird pop settings set to localhost as thunderbird doesn't appear to have movemail support. Can anyone guide me on a solution? I want to be able to have logwatch installed once I get over this little setup.

Unfortunately no.
I ran an nmap scan and discovered I do not have port 110 open. It seems I do not have fetchmail configured properly. I will check my configuration.

Do not delete the old account yet. sign up for an iCloud account if you haven't.
I understand .mac mail will still come through. Do not delete the old account yet.
You cannot use .mac or MobileMe as type of Account, you have to choose IMAP when setting up, otherwise Mail is hard coded to change imap.mail.me.com to mail.me.com & smtp.mail.me.com to smtp.me.com, no matter what you try to enter.
iCloud Mail setup, do not choose .mac or MobileMe as type, but choose IMAP...
On second step where it asks "Description", it has to be a unique name, but you can still use your email address.
    IMAP (Incoming Mail Server) information:
              •          Server name: imap.mail.me.com
              •          SSL Required: Yes
              •          Port: 993
              •          Username: [email protected] (use your @me.com address from your iCloud account)
              •          Password: Your iCloud password
    SMTP (outgoing mail server) information:
              •          Server name: smtp.mail.me.com
              •          SSL Required: Yes
              •          Port: 587
              •          SMTP Authentication Required: Yes
              •          Username: [email protected] (use your @me.com address from your iCloud account)
              •          Password: Your iCloud password
Also, you must upgrade your password to meet the new criteria:  8 characters, including upper and lower case and numbers.  If you have an older password that does not meet these criteria, when you try to setup mail on your mac, using all of the IMAP criteria listed above, it will still give a server error message.  Go to   http://appleid.apple.com         then follow directions to change your password, then go back to setting up your mail using the IMAP instructions above.
    Thanks to dpepper...

  • I can send, but cannot receive E-Mail, suddenly.

I am a new convert to the entire world of Apple, aside from a longtime Safari proponent and user. A month and a half ago, I purchased a MacBook Pro 15" (you all know the specs, I went with 512 g flash drive upgrade) and am extremely happy with it. I have Windows 7 x64 installed on a 200g partition, solely so I can continue to use a few SONY apps that I need for video and audio editing for my business. These apps are NOT available for Apple machines and are essential to my photo restoration and video transfer and editing business. Ok, that's the environment.
Yesterday, as I normally do, I woke up, coffee, check on all of my animals, Mac starts with scheduled start-up at 7:20am as per usual while I am busy with my 'wake up' duties. After the wife was off to work and I was ready to check E-Mails and check for any correspondence from clients, I open 'mail,' (I have it set to start at scheduled start-up) and notice there is no E-Mail in my two pop accounts. I have a Gmail account and the iCloud account. 'This is odd.' I invoke 'receive' a couple times. Nothing. I turn on my phone (Blackberry) and it starts making noise as it normally does when E-Mail comes in. This is weird. I reboot my lovely Mac. No joy. No E-Mail. So I start troubleshooting. I figure out that I can send from all four accounts but cannot receive on any of them.
I reboot to the Windows partition. I open Live Mail. It fills up on my two pop accounts. Even more weirder. I have the Gmail account on this partition also, but it rarely receives E-Mail so it can wait. No iCloud on the Windows side. We all understand that.
On the Apple side, I removed all accounts from mail and re-established them with no resulting solution being apparent.
I have made no changes at my account on the server (webhero.com) so I am baffled. I looked for solutions here, but have found nothing, which is why this is being written.
Because I have seen no solutions, I consider that something unique has occurred to my computer that is not a new issue with many other Mac users.
My system is updated to all recent standards so there isn't much more to post
    Any ideas, anyone?
    Thanks for looking,
    Kelly J.

Personally I will never leave Windows behind. Mac just doesn't cut it for me. For one it is to much of a closed system and the door is closing even more as I type this. MS isn't that much better with the release of Win 8 (which I will not be using at all except for Tech supporting others).
Apple does not like to give the user options and if they do you have to know the command line to implement them, in some cases. In others there simply is no user choice, like sounds for events.
With the advent of the newer Mac's with Non upgradeability, IE the retina models and the newest iMacs, this is certainly not the systems for me.
The OS? Well IMHO OS X isn't any better then Windows and in most case I like Windows better. IMHO Windows is an easier system to use. Not sure about Win 8.
Been running Windows for 20+ years and I can count on one hand the number of BSODs I've had. But then I run Clean system and the desktops I built myself. Notebooks are mostly Dell Business line models and my one MBP.
BSODs happen from bad hardware or drivers for that hardware. OS X is slightly better but Apple is not immune from writing or using bad drivers and the hardware is no better built then most any Windows PC. It just comes in a different case.
Apple Lived on the "It Just works" saying for a long time. That is not the case today, as you may see from all the posts in all the Apple hardware forums.
I'm Fixento get back to work, Y'all. Ga day.

  • How to receive alert mails when communication channel fails

    Hi everybody,
Today there were in the "Communication Channel Monitoring" of the Runtime Workbench some Communication Channels in a "red" status and I would like to know if it is possible to receive per mail any alerts about a failing communication channel?
In SXMB_MONI the error is the following:

Usually, I receive mail alerts when messages failed since I have CCMS configurated but in the CCMS I don´t see any entries for this kind of errors with a Communication Channel...
    Thanks in advance,
    Regards,
    Olivier

    Hi!
You can receive Alerts even though you are configured CCBPM. Through Control Step you can throw alerts but only difference between PI7.1 and XI is in 7.1 you can easily create Alert categoy in ESR itself at java stack but in XI you can't create it in Java stack you need to create this ALert category though ALRTCATDEF   t code  in ABAP Stack even though in 7.1 you created in Java Stack it will be reflecting in ABAP Stack.
Next thing is later you need to Configure ALert Rules in RWB and in ABAP Stack at Alert Category you need to Add your XI SAP ID;s at FIxed Receipients and before adding this Ask your Basis people to link your company mail ID or any mail ID with SAP ID so that you can receive Alerts both in RWB ALert Inbox as well as your Mail Server.
Since the above experts given diff blogs you can easily configure...
    I hope u understand the flow....right ?

  • Modifying Connectors for Receiving Internet Mail - Anonymous setting?

I have a mail reflector for my domain to deliver mail on an alternate port, other than 25 because my ISP blocks port 25. I have the following default receive connectors:
Default Client Font End Transport (FrontEnd Transport) - TLS, Basic, Integrated, Exchange users, port 587
Default Client Proxy (Hub Transport) - TLS, Basic, Offer Basic after TLS, Integrated, Exchange Server Auth, Exchange Servers, Exchange users, port 465
Default Front End Transport (FrontEnd Transport) - TLS, Basic, Offer Basic after TLS, Integrated, Exchange server auth, Exchange Servers, Legacy Exchange Servers, Anonymous Users, port 25
Default Hub Transport (Hub transport) - TLS, Basic, Offer Basic after TLS, Integrated, Exchange Server Auth, Exchange Servers, Legacy, Exchange Users, port 2525
Default Outbound Proxy Frontend Transport (Frontend transport) TLS, Enable domain security, Basic, Offer basic after TLS, integrated, Exchange server auth, exchange servers, anonymous, port 717
Issue: When I initially had mail forwarded to port 2525, I received a mail delivery system message: host mail.skincdc.com[69.250.204.88] said: 530 5.7.1 .Client was not authenticated (in reply to MAIL FROM command).
I modified the “Default Hub Transport” connector to allow Anonymous Users in addition to what I already had selected in the security settings. Voila, email is delivered to my exchange server from external domains.
I wasn’t sure if adding Anonymous Users to this connector would pose any issues. In order to try an alternate port, I changed my registrar to port 2626 and created a new receive connector Hub Transport, with only Anonymous
Users and port 2626. I saw the initial connection in my TMG firewall logs, but mail never made it to my exchange server, and I wasn’t receiving the above error message right away as before. Disabling this new rule and modifying the firewall back to port 2525,
email immediately was delivered. So can I just leave my Default Hub Transport receive connector as is with the security settings and Anonymous set? Thanks.
Next….getting email to send out on a different port than 25 to external domains. Still having issues with this one.
    -SK

    Hi Slevin
According to your setup you would need to receive emails on different port apart from 25
You can do the following thing
    1) Create a dedicated receive connector for your ISP domain
    2) Grant relay permission only to your ISP subnet and IP ranges
    3) Change the port to your desired number on which you need to receive emails from them
    4) Disable the default receive connector since its not required anymore
So the mail-flow for inbound will be in the following type
    Inbound
From Internet - Mails comes to your ISP - ISP delivers to your firewall on different port - then it comes to exchange server
Let me know if you have any confusions on this and i will be able to help you further
Remember to mark as helpful if you find my contribution useful or as an answer if it does answer your question. That will encourage me - and others - to take time out to help you Check out my latest blog posts on http://exchangequery.com Thanks Sathish

  • Do not receive E-mail from apple.

have forgotten my password.assigning my E-mail for recoving password.i do not receive E-mail from apple

I have a similar issue: I can send and receive email on my MBA, from my iPad and iPhone, but suddenly I can't send or receive on my MBP (computers running 10.8.4). I can get mail from icloud.com.
In System Preferences I signed out of my icloud account and then re-entered my credentials and signed in again: No Change.
I have the Triangle with the ! in the middle of it next to my Inbox. I've gone to Mailboxes > Take all accounts on Line with no change.
In Mail Preferences nothing has changed and all Accounts tabs are exactly the same as on my MBA which succesfully receives mail.
The Connection Doctor indicates that there is a problem with iCloud IMAP mail.
I've tried turning off SSL: No Change

  • Unable to receive e mails

I am unable to receive e mails on my new Q10.
The account set up advice provided by my services provider, is for the Z10 model, but does not seem to work - in that i can send e mails but not receive them. There is also an anomaly with the smtp server settings which differ from those listed for the Z10 - but which work for sending e mails.
    the server settings i am using are;
    o/g; pop.outlook.com - port 995
smtp; pod51017.outlook.com - port 587 (setup instruction says to use smtp.outlook.com - but this doesn't work)
The above setup allows me to send but not receive
any other combinations and i get a message to say the server is not responding, when i try to validate the account.
i have searched but can't find any specific set up info for the Q10 - not sure if the operating system is the same?/
    can anyone help

The device model doesn't make a difference here. The OS might make a difference in UI organization, don't know, but in the bigger picture it doesn't make a difference.
Did you try the basic method of just entering email address and password in setup and let the BlackBerry and servers do the rest? For outlook.com that should work, I believe. http://crackberry.com/how-add-outlookcom-email-address-your-blackberry
    Also, I would use POP3.

i cannot find my account password, i tried to receiving e-mail but there is no answer from itunes store.

    like this.
so, i forgot it. but there is no way to find my password.
and i couldn't find any answer for this situation.
i think there is a problem that my account has + word. so maybe apple's automatic answering system does not work with that.

  • Can't receive e-mail on ipad 3

    Can't receive e-mail on new iPad...sending not a problem...using Comcast

Here is what I did to resolve the problem:
In Mail/preferences/accounts/account information/ and at the bottom of the box there is a toggle arrow up and down to edit the outgoing mail server, check the box "use only this server" and  hit this toggle button and select "edit SMTP Server List" at the very bottom of the email names.
Select Advanced tab.  Correct and/or add usernames and passwords as needed for each email account.  Be sure to select OK each time to get the passwords to hold!  Some changes don't seem to hold unless you click OK before you move on.
To test:       Window/activity (a little windows will pop up showing activity bars)   and then "get mail" button.  This should show any problems
    Another test:  window/connection doctor
This shouldl fix both pop and imap.  so far it worked on yahoo, mobile me, gmail, hotmail, and others.  Of course, you will need to know the incoming and outgoing mail server info, user name, and passwords.
Too bad we have to go though hoops to use an email program that used to work well.  Worse yet, many may not know for days that their email isn't working.
This is easy method of setting up your email accounts but may not allow enough detail to make the mail accounts function properly in Mail 5.0:

It details how to use the utl_smtp package to send emails.
I have to ask however, since you're not doing anything 'fancy' like adding email attachments, why aren't you using the (much simpler) htmldb_mail package to send email?
