Receiving "The Itunes Library file cannot be saved. A duplicate file name was specified".

Itunes Version 10.5.3.3
Using Iphone 4 on Windows 7 Proffesional PC.
Keep getting "The Itunes Library file cannot be saved. A duplicate file name was specified" when trying to sync Itunes with Iphone.
Have tried the following steps;
first you have to locate your last library file, you can do this by clicking Edit-preferences-advanced. it will show you the itunes media folder location. then close Itunes
open your folder and locate the last library (libraries are saved with date names, find the most recent one or the one that was last modified).
change the name of the library to today´s date following the format it already has. you will have to change the name for libraries: .itl, .xml, genius and extras.
once you have changed the name to today´s date on the 4 libraries you will have to delete all other libraries existing on the same folder or on a folder named "previous itunes libraries". it is also recommended to delete the itunes "preferences file" .dat (usually 1kb) and the "sentinel" file.
so, you will have on your itunes media folder only 4 libraries: .itl .xml genius and extras.
the next step is to click the itunes icon holding the "shift" key . itunes will ask you to either "quit, choose library or create library" click on choose library. then locate the library you just renamed with today´s date and extension .itl
done, itunes will open with the last saved version of your library. keep in mind that some changes or songs will not be present if you added any while getting the error "itunes cannot save the library file. a duplicate name has been specified" just locate the songs and add them again, if you have the option "copy files to itunes media folder when adding to library" checked. then go to file-add folder or file-and locate the songs missing on the itunes media folder.itunes saves the files on the hard drive but does not save the changes on the library.
No luck.
Any help would be greatly appriciated.

  • The iTunes Library file cannot be saved A duplicate file name was specified

I keep my music and my library file on an external drive. I've been having this error whenever I try to download the updates for my iphone apps, and then after it's popped up once, it continues. After I quit the app, when I try to restart iTunes it won't open because of an unknown error 13014. If I trash the itunes genius and extras files, I can get iTunes to open again, but then I'm back to the library file cannot be saved problem.

  • The iTunes Library file cannot be saved.  A file was specified instead of a folder.

What does this error message mean? "The iTunes Library file cannot be saved.  A file was specified instead of a folder.

After trying a few other remedies, the tech at Apple Care suggested I reinstall Lion.
    Here's the article:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=Mac/10.7/en/mchlp1599.html
I have not had the error message since, even after importing about a dozen CDs and burning a couple playlists.
This seems to be the fix.

    Empty/corrupt library after upgrade/crash
Hopefully it's not been too long since you last upgraded iTunes, in fact if you get an empty/incomplete library immediately after upgrading then with the following steps you shouldn't lose a thing or need to do any further housekeeping. In the Previous iTunes Libraries folder should be a number of dated iTunes Library files. Take the most recent of these and copy it into the iTunes folder. Rename iTunes Library.itl as iTunes Library (Corrupt).itl and then rename the restored file as iTunes Library.itl. Start iTunes. Should all be good, bar any recent additions to or deletions from your library.

  • Error -1450 - iTunes Library faile cannot be saved

iTunes is the most frustrating software I have ever used. I'm written about this before, but no one came to my rescue.
    Can you help?
I am thoroughly up-to-date with the latest iTunes (installed 7.6 today). But as with previous versions, I start to capture a CD and I get an error message: The iTines Library file cannot be saved. An unkonwn error occurred. (-1450).
This has been going on for over a year... with various upgrades of iTunes. It happens when my 80 GB Gen 5 iPod is connected or not. It happens when I just open iTunes or when I open iTunes and then attach the iPod. It happens when I attach the iPod first and get it to open iTunes.
Some times I can get one CD added to my songlist (I still have over 40 BD avail). But then the error message occurs and no matter what I do, I can't make iTunes save the file and all the time I just spent ripping the CD is lost and I have to do it again.
VERY frustrating. It's a wonder I have ANYTHING on this iPod with the number of times iTunes has crashed.
Can you help? Any thoughts? I have used iTunes to "repair" itself many times, I have rebooted (warm and completely). Nothing seems to make this problem disappear.

I just updated to 7.6 myself, and am getting this exact same error. I have combed the internet, and although I've seen quite a few forums about this, I've not seen ANYTHING to help from Apple. Why is this? Does anyone have a fix for this, because it is the most frustrating thing I have experience, next to my WD passport crashing for no reason.

looking for help i try to open my itunes and i get an error message..... the itunes litrary itl cannot be read because it was created by a newer version of itunes???

Unless you've recently attempted to downgrade iTunes this is probably a sign of a corrupt library file. See Empty/corrupt library after upgrade/crash.

  • The computer that I first used to download iTunes is no more. I have a new computer that I set my wife up on.  While I can see all my music in the iTunes library I cannot sync my iPod

The computer that I first used to download iTunes, to buy songs and to sync my iPod Nano to iTunes is no more.  I have a new computer that I inadvertently set my wife up on.  When I sign in, while I can see all my music in the iTunes library, when I tried to 'sync', I have lost all my music in my iPod and I now have my wife's library on there instead.
I subscribed to iTunes Match, thinking that this would help.  It hasn't and I'm not happy!
I have arranged to take my iPod into an Apple store next Tuesday but isn't there something you can tel me to do that ties my iPod wth my music and leaves my wife's music for her iPod?  Please help, I am so frustrated and have wasted so much time on this, reinstalling iTunes, restoring my iPod....
    Can anyone help?

  • TS1717 When I try to open iTunes I get this message; The iTunes Library.itl cannot be found or created. The default location for this file is in the " iTunes" folder in the "My Music" folder.  I have uninstalled and re-installed EVERYTHING apple related.

iTunes used to open with no issues, then suddenly did this upon launch. So I found every file associated with apple and whiped the computer clean; reinstalled then tried to open iTunes, with fingers crossed............no luck. I am stumped and frustrated. Don't know what to do next. Can anyone help me?

Look in your Home > Music folder.  There should be an iTunes folder there and it should have a number of files and folders including one called library.itl  You want to guide iTunes to that file.  If you don't see that file or folder then in your next post you will have to be very specific as to what you do see or how you have your iTunes set up because that's where it should be according to default settings.

  • I get the error message itunes library.itl cannot be read because it was created by a newer version of itunes

    Hi,
I had my pc reformatted and win 7 64 bit installed. As I have come to put everything back on the pc I accidently installed the 32 bit version of iTunes. I realised this when certain functionality wasn't working.
So I uninstalled itunes and all the associated software, bonjour etc etc and have d/l the 64 bit version.
Now when I try to start up iTunes I get the "itunes library.itl cannot be read because it was created by a newer version of itunes" error message and the application will not load.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Cheers,
    Dave

  • ITunes library could not be saved

I recently installed iTunes on a new PC and had all my old files transferred over to the new hard drive. All my music loaded onto iTunes but after a few days I noticed an error message on the screen saying 'The iTunes library could not be saved, there is not enough memory available'. I still have over 200 GB left on the PC's hard drive so I'm not sure what's causing this message to appear. Any suggestions on how to stop it?

  • How do I fix "iTunes Library .itl cannot be read because it was created by a newer version"?

"iTunes Library .itl cannot be read because it was created by a newer version"?

In that case the "iTunes Library .itl cannot be read because it was created by a newer version" message may indicate that your iTunes library has been corrupted.  Either restore it from a backup (it is always a good idea to backup your library before installing an iTunes update), or see turingtest2's user tip on Empty/corrupt iTunes library after upgrade/crash.
