Recent Airport Update knocked out my wireless connection???

The recent Airport release which I understand was significant in patch some hacker holes... but doesn't do me any good if I can't reconnect with my network. Is anyone else having the trouble or does anyone have a suggestion? I have a Netgear 54Mbs wireless that worked with no problem before I installed the update. The network is still working fine on my Windows laptop. My macbook can connect using the ethernet just not wirelessly. Please help!!!

I had this problem, too, with a Linksys WR54G Router. After my Mac auto-updated a few days ago, it constantly dropped the connection, while my XP machine kept flying right along. I looked through all these forums, and tried the easier ideas, such as deleting and reloading the network preferences, repairing disk permissions, etc. None worked, and I was beginning to think I'd have to archive and reinstall the OS.
What seems to have worked, though, is updating the firmware on my Linksys router. When I connected to the router, I found it had firmware that was over a year old. A more recent version -- only a couple of months old -- was available, so I downloaded and installed that. Presto, the Mac seems much better.
So, I would check this on your Netgear router. Perhaps Apple designed this update to work only with the latest firmware from each manufacturer. Linksys made no specific reference to their firmware upgrade improving any issues with Airport in the info file that came with the upgrade, but it seems to have done the trick, regardless.
Each router/base station manufacturer will have their own interface and method for doing the firmware upgrade, so check their website for instructions. It's actually pretty easy, compared to -- say -- the kernel extension fix. Probably worth a look before attempting more extreme measures.

  • How To Stop After Effects From Knocking Out My Internet Connection As It Is Downloading?

    Greetings,
Yesterday, January 20, 2015, I purchased an annual subscription to After Effects.  And, after numerous attempts at downloading the software with the same abysmal results, I am now going to the forums for a possible remedy.  Everything goes well in beginning my download, including getting my McAfee Anti-virus program to accept Adobe Creative Cloud, however after a few minutes, the download process knocks out my Internet connection, forcing me to re-boot.  I do receive two back-to-back error messages; none of which are listed by Adobe set of error messages in their FAQ section.
The first one reads:  "Core: Creative Cloud - Application Error.  The instruction at 0x100014a0 referenced memory at 0x100014a0.  The memory could not be written."  The second error message is likened to the first, only with a different number...
"94% Complete: explorer.exe - Application Error.  The instruction at 0x80001610 referenced memory at 0x80001610.  The memory could not be written."
Finally, do you know if I can bypass all of this trouble by having Adobe After Effects disks shipped to me?  Any assistance will be greatly appreciated.
    Joy in the Lord,
    A. Landis Jones

    Greetings,
And thank you both, Mylenium & Dave.  After I compose this note, I am going to mark your answers as correct.  I just wanted to write this qualifier, first.  I tried to do as both of you suggested, however, I could not figure out how to disable McAfee Anti-Virus.  I did manage to turn off McAfee Firewall.  And when that was done, I tried to download After Effects.  However, that trick did not work the first couple of times I tried it.  A few re-boots later, After Effects (as well as some unknown program I did not expect called Media Encoder) finally downloaded on my computer.
After I began this thread, I recalled that, oftentimes, when I view YouTube videos online, the same thing happens - my Internet connection gets disrupted.  Then I remembered that the trouble began when my computer crashed and I tried to re-install Windows 8.1 Pro.  So, maybe that is the real culprit - my system crash, that is.  A little while ago, I tested viewing YouTube videos to no avail.  So, I am suspecting that your solution to turn off my anti-virus (in my case, my firewall) did the trick, and I thank you two, Mylenium & Dave, mightily.
    May you have many blessings.

  • Airport Express knocks out internet connection in bridge mode

I have an Airport Extremem (one of the first 'N' versions) and an older (also 'N') Airport Express that extends my network in bridge mode.  I want to add another Airport Express (also an older 'N' version) in bridge mode.  The new one can be connected in client mode successfully, but when I try to connect it in bridge mode I lose my internet connection.  Both of the Airport Expresses are the older model that hang directly on the power outlet and everything has the latest firmware version.  Any ideas?
    Thanks!

The new one can be connected in client mode successfully, but when I try to connect it in bridge mode I lose my internet connection.
Client mode is also Bridge Mode, so I am not sure what you are referring to here.
In other words, when the Express is in the "join" mode, that is client mode which is also Bridge Mode.
When the Express is in "extend" mode, it is also in Bridge Mode.
So, the AirPort Extreme is operating correctly, correct?
If yes, does the first AirPort Express extend the network wirelessly, or is it connected to the AirPort Extreme using a wired Ethernet connection?
Once we understand the relationship between the AirPort Extreme and AirPort Express, we can tackle the issue of your second AirPort Express.
BTW, the second Express cannot extend the signal from the first Express wirelessly, if that is what you are asking about here?

  • Does the recent Airport update help connectivity issues?

I always have issues with my D-link router, which I haven't been able to test since the update. Are people still having connectivity issues and dropped signals since updating?

Usually a update is released to fix and improve functionality. This time a lot of users reported the update caused bugs and even connection problems. If you're already in troubles you can install it and see if it fix your issue.
Consider that your router could be faulty. I replaced mine with a US Robotics after having used my old d-link for 2 years.
    I hope that helps, bye

  • Manual duplex times out on wireless connectivity only - D5560 printer

The printer is set for manual duplex. I use a Dell Insiron laptop (OSW7) with a wireless connection to Netgear Wireless-N 3000 Router. IP address is 192.168.1.5:3910 for the wireless printer.
The pages print on the one side and then simply stop printing on the last page just before the printer should be releasing it.
If I leave everything alone, approx 15 seconds later the page gets released and the print cancels.
If I manually tug the final page out of the printer and manually insert for the second side the page has a small area at the end unfinished. The first page of the second side may have this data printed on it.
I've reinstalled the software and all hardware has driver updates etc.
My PC is cable connected to the router and I've never had this happen. It is only on the wireless connection for the laptop.
    Is there a solution?

Does the printer recover by power-cycling your switch or unplugging the LAN cable to the printer?

  • MacBook Pro and Leopard knock out my wireless network

I am new to Mac, just having purchased the MacBook Pro with Leopard 10.5.1. installed. I have a Netgear WPN824 router that works perfectly with windows based computers. I use WEP 64 bit security. The MacBook connected with no problem and surfs the web fine until I try to download certain files on the MacBook (such as the HP drivers for my all in one printer) or try certain video feeds online , such as a cnn video. The download not only stops midstream but actually knocks out my entire network causing me to have to unplug my cable modem and router and restart everything. This is a real problem. Does anyone have a clue why this is happening? I can download the same files on a Windows laptop with no problem. Help.

Hmm. It might not be the MBP. Are you using Safari? I've noticed that Safari at times is incompatible with many websites. Try downloading Firefox and try the same downloads.

  • The eFax firmwear Update Messed Up the Wireless Connection

I followed the directions to reconnect eFax on my HP Photosmart 7510, installing the firmwear update. Unfortunately the update disconnected the printer from the wireless connection and I was unable to reconnect it.
I contacted HP support by phone at approximately 5:45 p.m. The first person I talked to was able to get the wireless working again by taking over my computer and reinstalling the softwear. Unfortunately, the softwear he installed does not resolve the eFax problem. So I was back to square one. He transfered my call to a different support rep who after considerable time was not able to get eFax to work. She "escalated" my case and I am supposed to hear back from HP in seven working days. I just got off the phone with HP support at 8:30 p.m. Not bad three hours of support and I still don't have a working eFax.

  • AirPort Extreme conection cuts out! Wireless Connection problems, Solved!?

If you are having the same problem I was with not being able to stay connected wireless to internet using OS X 10.5.6 and Airport....
    Try this......
Fingers Crossed its working! For now 3 days and still going.
    Open Airport Utility
when your base station shows up ( good luck it kept vanishing when I did this )
    in Manual Setup / Summary
Wireless mode > access > MAC Address Access Control Local
(set up every devise you want to connect to - Wireless clients gives you the codes)
Wireless options > (tick) Create a closed network and Use interference robustness
Hope this works for you all too and keeps Working!

FYI we aren't the only ones with this issue. Check out this thread:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=8577849&#8577849
I have the EXACT same problem, intermittent bars, click on the network name and you get brief connectivity, and - perhaps most importantly -- this only really started in the last 4 - 6 weeks or so. There must have been some weird update back in November/December.
Unfortunately Apple is doing it's usual thing: No response.

  • Security update knocked out AP Extreme

Have connected my old eMac (1 Ghz G4, OS 10.3.9) via Airport Extreme since last August.
Only two interruptions since then - both followed installation of (Apple update) software.
The main reason I switched from direct to wireless DSL connection is that it's 5X better than trying to run wires for this computer now that I have a Mac Pro running in another room.
Latest instance (still can't get a connection) is the result of installing the latest Security Update (for 10.3.x). Problem is, I cannot remember how to restore connection (have treated this setup as "set and forget" and will continue to do so).
Apparently, the Airport is trying to connect via PPOe - I know that won't work!!
I get the "cannot find server (name)" message even though the Airport menu bar icon shows "connected." Also - while fiddling around - I got a "please enter password" message but tried *three* (the only three which apply) without success.
How to I go about "changing back" to the settings which will re-enable a connection to my DSL service? Please make it simple - I just need to know which panel to go to and what settings I need to enter / change.
If anyone has any idea of which password to apply, please tell me - I think Apple is needlessly "opaque" in their manual and in the way this software is written. I never have this problem with any other software - Apple's or any third party's. (Sorry - I quit smoking recently and am NOT "in the mood" for this kind of "stuff.")

This is an update! to my Airport Extreme situation:
I "gave up" trying to get the Airport connecton and just let the eMac "rest" for
a couple weeks. When I came back and tried (again) re-posting all the settings
in Airport Utility - the connection came back and has remained for about 2 weeks
    now (as of Feb. 13th).
But - today I see that the strength of signal as indicated by the Airport icon in the top
menu bar is fluctuating from 75% to 100% and - once - the connection broke completely.
I restarted the eMac and the same pattern is repeating - signal fluctuating 75 to 100%.
(I'm using the eMac with that connection to post this.)
So - if anyone has further info or suggestions on "keeping" the connection and can
explain why, with the base station 3 feet away on the other side of a conventional interior
residence wall, the signal strength is fluctuating - I'd appreciate hearing from you.

  • Mac OS X Software Update Wiped out my Wireless!

Hello everyone- Perhaps someone can help me. I currently connect my G4 tower to the internet via a Sonnet Aria Extreme PCI card, to my Linksys Wireless G. In addition, I also connect my Powerbook G4 via its own built in Airport card. All has been great until 2 days ago, when I installed the update for OS X 10.4.8 The laptop still connects fine, but now the tower cannot connect. When I click on the Airport logo on the top bar (now grey, not black), it shows the option to join "linksys" as always, but now I get "There was an error joinging the Airport network linksys". If I launch Safari and open Network Diagnostics, and follow the prompts, it asks for the WEP password for the linksys network. We never had or assigned a password. Anyone have any suggestions? I have repaired my permissions after the update (not sure if that matters), but thats about the limit of my knowledge with this stuff. I'm sorry if I left out any important or key details. Any help would be great. Thanks a million guys!

It looks like the Software Update Helper is crashing. I've logged a bug at http://radar.apple.com: 7408619.

  • Boot Camp installation knocks out my network connection in OS X?

I've tried doing an installation of Windows XP in Boot Camp on two different occasions, and both times have resulted in the same odd finding: the network settings in OS X are altered or affected and I can no longer get the computer to connect to any network, either wireless or through ethernet. I can't see anything noticeably different in the settings, but nothing seems to be able to get it to connect. The only thing that has saved me has been doing a restore from Time Machine to right before the Boot Camp install. It makes no sense to me what might be happening here and I haven't found other reports of this. Anyone have any ideas?
(If it makes any difference, when I got the new MacBook, I did a migration of a 10.4 system from my PowerBook G4 and sometimes wonder if something weird was inherited from that... but that is just a pure guess in the dark. And since, I've had the WIndows 7 beta and RC running in Parallels and Fusion with no problems. But I'd like the Boot Camp option.)

Free space? 15GB or more free.
    chkdsk comes up clean?
    cleaned out temp/tmp and cache?
Programs can be repaired right from the control panel "Programs"
Go into Services to check properties and make sure Apple Mobile, Bonjour, iPod etc are all set to running and automatic. I have to restart all of those usually to get my iPod to connect.
Windows 7 DVD to check for system repairs.

  • Recent firedfox update immedately cause break in connection between computer and printer

about 2 weeks ago Firefox offered an update. I clicked to start this. right after the printer failed to respond to the computer and a message said: check cables (done) restart computer(done) check firewall - I don't know how to do this. I have a McAfee contract.
Could this update have caused the problem? was this update offer legitimate or a virus?

    here is the same problem
    i cant switch between vc7,8,9...only between 1 and 7.
when i switch to vc8 or 9 only comes nothing but a blank black screen.
there is no problem on vc1 to vc6, login screen works there.
gdmflexiserver command doesnt works, same blank black screen.
but when X is not in work all virtual consoles works without problem.
ive searched everywhere for this problem but nothing works.people have recommend same things; gdmflexiserver etc.
i think it is a problem with X server,  maybe a bug of this version.Mine is xorg-server 1.5.3-4.
    Any?

  • Slow wireless connection after 10.4.11 update

    Hi,
I have a 17-inch iMac (2Ghz cpu) and ever since I updated to 10.4.11 my wireless connection has been very slow. I used to have download speeds between 150 and 200 KB, and now I can’t get past 20 or 30 KB. I have an XP laptop right beside the iMac, using the same wireless router and the connection is a lot faster, achieving the 200 KB I used to have with the iMac.
I also used to transfer files a lot faster than I do now. I connect to a pc through smb and transferring files is really, really slow. It takes ages just to begin the transfer, and a 5MB file can take up to 15 minutes. It never took this long…
The connection is quite stable though, it rarely disconnects, so I’m not sure whether I’m having the same problem other users have been posting in the forums. What I do know is that the update messed with my wireless connection.
I’ve tried running Disk Utility’s repair disk permissions, Applejack’s AUTO repair, trashing plist files that I saw in other posts, nothing works.
Anyone with the same problem? Any ideas?
    Thanks,
    josemagalhaes

    Hi again,
I think I found a solution for this. It’s not the best solution, more of a workaround, but it’s been working for me.
Searching other threads, I found this topic about users who had intermittent connection to the internet (http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1027382&tstart=0). I tried changing the settings in my wireless router – not Linksys, it’s an Asus WL-520G, but has similar options – and the speeds were up again! SMB file transfers work at good speed, and the internet connection is back to normal.
I’m not sure what these settings are for, but anyway all I did was change the “Beacon Interval” to 50, “RTS” to 2304 and “Fragmentation” to 2305 (I didn’t change the MTU because that seemed to be a PPPoE setting, not wireless).
As I said, it’s not really a fix, because nothing changes in OS X, but anyway it may help some users who’ve been having the same problem.

  • Wireless keyboard and mouse knocked out by skype

Hi everytime someone skypes me it knocks out my wireless keyboard &mouse any suggestions

On a new computer running 8.1 with an AMD 6300 I got hangups of my mouse and keyboard whenever I use Skype. I ran the system's file Checker utility and that stopped the problem. File Checker said that I still had some DLLs that it couldn't fix they seemed all to be AMD related.
I had uninstalled and reinstalled Skype about three times .
I used easy transfer from a Windows 7 machine to this new machine, and after installing the files on the new machine I had lots of errors. I had to use the recovery Windows 8.1disk to reinstall the operating system and then most stuff worked all right except for the problem with Skype locking my mouse and keyboard .
