Recent Applications remain seated

I've just noticed some strange behavior on my OS2.0 Playbook and can't determine if it's the Playbook itself or software.  After opening/closing up to 6 apps, they seem to remain seated in the background of "Recent Applications" 2.0.0.56 and I am unable to open a seventh app or more.  There seems to be no way of clearing this cache (assuming that's what it is) without rebooting.
While I'm on the subject... I purchased my playbook approximately 4 months ago.  As far as you know, have there been and hardware changes to the Playbook since that time?  Not referring to specs like RAM or anything.  I just wondered if there was any chance the BB Playbook has had any product tweaking that I may have missed out on at all.
This thing does a few things that it shouldnt be doing.  For instances the backlight seemsto have a mind of its own regardless of manual setup.  Sometimes out of the blue the screen will suddenly brighten up or down for no reason and at other times, applications start and then dissapear within a split second of starting up.
It's been like this since I bought it and wiping and reinstalling makes no difference.

I have seen this before as well. To explain it I think it is the android player in which the apps you see are android apps. They always seem to be open in this recent list even after you remove them from the home screen. I have asked the development team if they would be able to make it easier to find out what apps are android or blackberry playbook apps. However they didn't see why we wanted to know the difference.
For now I just don't install ones I think are android apps because even now it seems very experimental. I love the playbook but I wish they would open it up more and give developers more of an edge for developing not just through an api.

  • All previously installed applications remain after "fresh" install of OS X 10.8.4

    Hey guys,
So this may or may not be a problem.  The issue is that I was having some system screen flickering/freezing on my Macbook Pro (Early 2011) so I decided to reinstall 10.8.4 Mountain Lion to see if this would solve the issue.  Went through the procedure of creating a reinstall flash drive and proceeded.  Chose the drive containing my old OS (10.8.4) and installed.  Process took about 1:30 hours to download and install necessary files.  When the OS install is complete and the machine boots back up nothing has changed.  All previously installed applications remained and the machine home folder is still named for the previous owner? (bought on ebay)  Does Apple auto reset all previous settings through my AppleID?  Or did this OS re-install not complete correctly?  I need to FULLY wipe this machine and after going through the process I am not even sure if anything took place.  Any help would be appreciated.  Thanks

I am reading an article suggesting that I can use boot utility to format all drives if I boot into the recovery partition.  From there I can reinstall using the internet recovery.  Is this a wise move to avoid buying Snow Leopard?
The Early 2011 Mac originally came with 10.6
10.7 and 10.8 are paid upgrades tied to the previous owners AppleID, therefore you can't apply security updates to that previous owners copy as you don't have their AppleID and password.
The object to go back to Snow Leopard 10.6 is so that when you upgrade to 10.8, it's yours and you can upgrade all your paid software and operating system through the AppStore concept.
Later, if you need to erase and install 10.8 fresh, then yes, you use Internet Recovery or RecoveryHD as then your AppleID and password will work as intended and there is no need to use the 10.6 disks any longer, they can be sold if you wish as you don't have 10.6 on the machine anymore.

  • Is there a setting such that the application closes (quits) when the (last) file is closed? Why does the application remain active when there are no files for it open?

I honestly did try to find my own answer, but cannot.  Not sure why a simple question would have its answer so difficult to find. I'd just like the application to simply close after the last file is closed.  It seems strange to have the application remain active.  Thanks for your help.

It's also a bit strange that even though I searched throughout the community for questions like this......so that I wouldn't take up space for something already discussed........that immediately after I posted my question, the "
More Like This" side window comes up that describes questions just like mine.
So, sorry to have bothered anyone with having to read another duplicate question.  I see that the answer to my first question is "No", and there's likely not a good answer for "Why".
    Thanks anyway.

  • After upgrading IOS 7.0.2, will my data an applications remain same in my iphone 4S?

after upgrading IOS 7.0.2, will my data an applications remain same in my iphone 4S?

If all goes well, there should not be an issue.  However,
you should always perform a backup before doing any
update or upgrade as anything can happen.
Perform both a backup via iTunes and via iCloud and perform
a sync of all apps, music, photos, etc. with iTunes.

  • Why does my "recent items" show recent applications in duplicate?

    Why does this happen?
Just applications show up in duplicate, not recent documents. All I can do is to clear the recent items list. I'm not sure when this development began, and I can't bring it on at will either.

I was revisiting this situation again and explored into one of the Links that "Limnos"
posted, namely, "X Lab Resetting Launch Services".
    Thanks-Limnos.
    It suggested:
    1. Use a third-party utility, such as Cocktail or Yasu, to rebuild or reset, respectively, the Launch Services database. Be sure to employ a version of the utility that is compatible with the version of Mac OS X you are using.
    OR
    2. Reset Launch Services manually: follow the steps in the order specified for the version of Mac OS X you are using.
I tried the easy way out.
I have had "Cocktail" for a long time (v. 4.4-current for Tiger 10.4.11) and let it rebuild the Launch Services database.
Then after a restart The problem seemed to be cured.
    Cleaned it all up nicely
    So far so good.
    No duplicates at all.
I was afraid I would have to re-associate everything in my system all over again, but no, it seems to be behaving nicely.
    I'll re-post if the problem re-occures , thanks.

  • When I open a PDF, I want to choose from 3 applications, not just 2 plus other. How can I change the number of recent applications that get listed for opening a file type?

I'd like firefox to remember the 3 most recently used applications per file type, not just the most recent 2.

On my Windows 7, with any browser, all downloaded files go into the Downloads folder.
If you can't find your downloaded PDF docs, try a search for *.pdf

  • Service Application Remains in Stopping State Between Reboots

These SharePoint service applications are a real pain!
I'm trying to stop a service application, but it remains in a hung "stopping" state (even between reboots!). I've also tried to delete the service application from powershell using "Remove-SPServiceApplication $spapp". But it doesn't
work. Additionally, this service application is associated with a SQL database that no longer exists. Is there a best practice for how to address this?
    Please help.
    Dave

    Hi Dave,
Please provide more information about the issue service application.
You could try executing the following command to unprovision the service:
    Get-SPServiceInstance
    $srvc = Get-SPServiceInstance "GUID"
    $srvc.Unprovision()

  • Printer applications remain open

We are using Deep Freeze on our public machines. Along with the applications that "remain open" the printer applications do not close when you are done printing you have to close them before you can shutdown.
    Any thoughts?
    Mark

CTRL- or RIGHT-click on the printer's Dock icon and select the option to close automatically.
You may need to do this before "deep freezing" or the preference may be lost when the default system is restored by Deep Freeze.

  • Installing 10.6.3 or recent applications.

I just purchased a second imac that comes with OS X 10.6.3. I wanted to upgrade the itunes on my 1st computer (10.5.7, intel) from 8.0 to 10.0. However, I get a message saying I need to install 10.6 before I can do this. When I try to install 10.6 it says that it cannot be installed on this computer. How can this be? My 1st computer is less than two years old and only one version down in OS X.

You can purchase the Snow Leopard install DVD for $29.

    Hi,
I have recently updated my iTunes to the latest version in order to sync music onto my new ipod shuffle. However after a successful installation the application does not launch or open? There are no error messages. The application is just unresponsive.
I have already checked the compatibility with Safari, my operating system and checked my firewall is not blocking it - all is fine.
Does anyone have any other resolutions?
    Many thanks

    Hi Carolyn,
Thank you for your time and response. The trouble is I am unable to launch iTunes? I have restarted my macbook air a number of times to try and initiate the application but the issue persists and the application remains unresponsive. Will not launch?
    Thanks

  • Limiting time that an applescript application can remain open

I've written a short program to allow me to rapidly access and automatically logon to a number of servers that I frequently use. I got help from kel on setting up a user authentication requirement (in case I'm not at my computer) and have set up the window to close each time I select a server to mount (application remains open). I now am wondering if I could include a loop that will let the application remain open for 2-5 minutes (allows me to mount several servers with only one login for transfers etc.,) before automatically shutting down. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi jar2005,
I'm not sure what you want to do, but you can usually use an idle handler for stuff dealing with time.
    global target_date, delay_time
    on run
    set delay_time to 5 -- seconds
    set target_date to (current date) + 5 * minutes
    end run
    on idle
    set current_date to (current date)
    if current_date > target_date then
    set delay_time to 1
    quit
    else
    -- do whatever
    beep 1
    end if
    return delay_time
    end idle
When you first run the script it initializes a delay time of 5 seconds and a target for quitting of 5 minutes from the time the scirpt is run. After it exits the run handler, it starts idling for 5 seconds on each run until 5 minutes has passed. Then it quits. You save idle handlers as stay open script application. You can use a repeat loop also, but the idle handler gives up the cpu during the delay.
I'm not sure if you wanted the script to wait or continue getting user input. If you mean that you want a dialog to quit, then you can use the 'giving up after' parameter.
display dialog "Enter something:" default answer "" giving up after 10
this dialog will wait for 10 seconds before closing. Note that you can find out if it gave up and have the script quit right there.
    gl,

  • HT201365 How do you now deactivate an application?

My Safari application remains active and I now can't figure out close it down (no X appears on the app after holding it down for a full second). I'm worried that Safari is active and eating up my data plan minutes.

Double click the Home button to show the screen with running and recently used apps. Each app icon will have a sample page above it. Flick up on the page (not the app icon) and the page will fly away and the app icon will disappear. This quits that app.
