Recent factory reset has taken me to OS X 10.2.8 - how do I upgrage?

The reinstall disc took away all the software updates obviously - but I have an old mac and am struggling to bring it back up to date. I never had to pay for any upgrades up to well into the 10.3s but can't find a download to make the jump from 10.2.8 up/
Can anyone help me?

Hi djc1001!
Here is some additional info.
As already stated, Mac OS X Versions 10.1, 10.2, 10.3, and 10.4, are complete system upgrades that must be purchased.
The point upgrades, such as 10.1.x to 10.1.5 (Final) 10.2.x to 10.2.8 (Final), 10.3.x to 10.3.9 (Final), and 10.4.x to 10.4.7 (Pending), can be downloaded for free.
Tiger is available for purchase at The Apple Store (US).
Panther, is no longer available directly from the Apple Online Store, as Tiger 10.4.x is the most up to date OS.
A Full Retail Version, of the Panther Install CDs, or a Full Retail Version of the Tiger Install DVD, can be purchased rather inexpensively, at some online Apple retailers, Amazon, eBay, AppleRescue, etc.
Be sure not to purchase grey, upgrade or machine specific CDs or DVDs.
Panther is only on CDs, not DVDs.

Software Update, Upgrade: What's The Difference?
Once Panther 10.3.x is installed, you can use the 10.3.9 Combo Update, to upgrade to the final version.
If your Mac meets the System Requirements for Tiger, you could also consider installing that.
And then use the PPC 10.4.8 Combo Update.

  • My factory reset has taken over 2 hours and still isnt finished any tips?

P.s. it was jail broken and I did this to remove it

    Jailbreaking sometimes messes up the iPod;
Jailbreaking voids the Apple warranty and also means that you will not get any support from Apple, including from this Apple forum. Jailbreaking can't be discussed in this Apple forum.

My computer (PC) does recognize that i plugged it in with the USB bc i can pull it up in "This PC"
You should also know that it (the ipod)  hasnt been updated system wise in years... so i dont know if that means anything... HELP ME!
i want to keep all my music on the ipod so i dont take up all my storage on my iphone.. THANKS!

    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try another cable (not necessary if using same cable that works for other devices)
    - Try on another computer (not necessary since other iOS devices connect.
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • Phone broken: factory reset has lost connection with icloud. Can you help?

I had a problem with my wi-fi.  It was a greyscale colour and would not let me sign on to wi-fi.  I took it to the shop and they said to do a factory re-set.  I did this but I cannot sign on to my icloud to retrieve my numbers and messages etc.  My wi-fi also still does not work.  I am very confused as I was just using wi-fi a few days ago with no problems. I also have been noticing the phone slowing down recently. When the battery gets to 20% and I go on my emails for example, it tends to just switch off, arghh! Can anyone help?

Apps are developed by almost anyone and are vetted and approved by BB. If the app crashes, contact the app vendor. None of the Apps I have loaded have shown any problems.
'The most recent OS' depends on your carrier releasing it. Rogers is still at 10.0.10.85
AOL? Really? Search this forum for email issues. Some service providers have not upgraded to the latest standards and have problems with Z10 emails.
I have never had a battery problem and I have had my Z10 since Day 1 in Canada. There were many reports of battery drain issues with the initial OS, but the last release seems to have fixed that.
If you have battery issues, but you also have Apps that 'crash' I would suggest removing the Apps you have installed and run the device without them for a while, see if your battery performance changes. Some apps run all the time and consume much power using location services etc.
Did you format the Flash card while installed in the device? I have a 32G card in mine and it is working fine. Perhaps try another card. Make sure you use one with a good speed rating.

  • OnPlus not initializing after factory reset

After a factory reset the unit is sitting with 2 steady amber lights, it doesn't move from here, it's been left for a couple of hours.
The factory reset is done by holding the reset button for 10 seconds or more then both red lights start flashing for 20-30min then they both turn to solid Amber lights.
The Factory reset has been tried multiple times.
    Any ideas?

    Hi Alan,
The solid Amber lights are part of the power on sequence. If both are steady the power on sequence may be hanging.
    Please follow these steps:
Could you try a factory reset again, this time hold down the reset button for 15+ seconds?
Also, this time could you try this on a different network? The appropriate ports may be blocked and it isn't able to download it's firmware.
f you could write the sequence of LEDs you see after resetting and post that. What do you see after the blinking red?
After trying the above steps and it still fails, an RMA may be required. Please let me know how the steps above turn out.
    Thanks,
    The OnPlus Team

I'm tryng to reconfigure the wireless config for a C4780.  I'm attempting to do this over USB with a MacBook running OS X v10.10, because this printer seem to require USB to setup wireless (hilarious).
I would really like to do a factory reset.  Clear the wireless setting, etc.  Anyone know how to convince this printer that it has not already been setup?

  • If I factory reset my 3GS will I be able to use it on any network?

Hi guys, first time I've been on here,
Basically I want to use my 3GS on a different network, by factory resetting will this allow this to happen or is it not as straight forward as this, any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.
    Many thanks.

Factory resetting has absolutely nothing to do with a phone's locked or unlocked status.  All factory resetting does is wipe all user data off the iPhone.
If a phone was sold as unlocked, it can be used with another carrier.
If a phone is locked to a particular carrier, only that carrier can unlock the phone.  Not all carriers (NONE in the USA) provide unlocking.

  • I have previously unlocked my o2 phone, if I carry out a factory reset will it relock itself?

I am thinking of selling my iphone 4, which originally came from O2.  I previously had it unlocked once the contract ran out.  I am thinking of selling it, but will a factory reset "lock" it back to O2?

That depends on how you "unlocked" it. As bhazel stated, if it was legitimately unlocked by the carrier, and restored using iTunes so that you got the "Congratulations, your iPhone is unlocked!" message, then you can update it and it will remain unlocked.
If you took it to a shop on the corner and had it "unlocked" it was hacked. Not only will it not remain unlocked if you update, it may become completely unusable, even with the carrier it was originally locked to.

I am having this problem.  At first with the new iPhone 5, and then with the iPad 2.  I am not sure why this is happening.
My gut feeling is this is an iO6 issue and here's why -
The problem mainly occurs with apps.  I have about 150 apps, and when I plugged in the phone, iTunes went to sync all of them.  The process would hang up after about 20 - 30 apps were loaded onto the phone. I could tell where about the process hung up because the apps on the phone showed up as "waiting".
Then on the iPad 2 I plugged in to sync and saw there was a huge "Other" component in my storage.  It required me to restore the iPad 2 from backup.  With this restore the same issues occurred - putting the apps back on the iPad would hang up.  The videos on the iPad also got stuck - maybe after about 10 hours of videos transfered iTunes crashed.
My solution has been to soft reset the device, restart Windows, and continue the process until it's complete.  This is remarkably inefficient and time-intensive but everything works with patience.
I have been wondering if others have had these same problems.

  • I recently updated Firefox and something called Fantistic Games has taken over my homepage and I can't get rid of it.

I used to get a field of 9 options to open when I opened a new page by clicking on the + button on the right side of the Search tab. After I updated Firefox a couple of days ago, my homepage had been taken over by something called "Fantasti Games". I can't find it anywhere to uninstall "Fantisti Games". I now have Google come up as my homepage when I open Mozilla Firefox, but each tab that I open comes up with the "FantastiGames" search engine. I need to get rid of that from my computer and revert back to what I had before, which was when I opened a new tab, I got nine large icons on the screen that gave me the choice of common sites to go to (such as AOL, YouTube, Weather.com, Google, etc.). Please tell me how to uninstall "FantastiGames".

This is embarrassing. It sounds like you have a third party program that has taken over your search engine, home page, and/or the default new tab page. Fortunately, this can be remedied easily:
    # At the top of the Firefox window, click on the Firefox button (Tools menu in Windows XP), and then click Add-ons. The Add-ons Manager tab will open.
    # In the Add-ons Manager tab, select the Extensions panel.
    # Select the toolbar you wish to remove.
    # Click the remove button.
    # Click "Restart now" if it pops up. Your tabs will be saved and restored after the restart.
After Firefox restarts, install the [https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/searchreset/ Search Reset Tool]. This will remove the rest of the traces of this program from your Firefox.
For further information, please read [[Remove a toolbar that has taken over your Firefox search or home page]].

  • I recently purchased an iMac from a friend who factory reset it, and now I can't reinstall Mountain Lion?

As the title says, I can't reinstall Mountain Lion. When I turn on the iMac, it send me straight to OX X Utilities. When I click on Reinstall Mountain Lion, it asks for my ID, but then states I did not purchase Mountain Lion. How do I fix this issue? I've tried asking Apple Support, but to no avail. I don't think the guy I spoke with understood what was going on.
I cannot get around OS X Utilities. There are only four options for me.
    Reinstall Mountain Lion
Back Up (tried, nothing comes up)
Get Help Online (which is what I'm doing here)
Erase or Restore Utilities (I've checked this, it says my disks are not malfunctioning)
My friend suggested signing into his ID to reinstall but when we did, it also said this ID has not purchased Mountain Lion. We logged into Apple Support went to registed devices and there was nothing there. I think he may have used another ID which is he searching for the info for. If we get the right ID, then maybe it will let us sign in on his name and reinstall Mountain Lion. But if he can't, or Apple won't take his ID, then I'm at a loss for options.
So now I'm here, hoping someone else who bought a used iMac from a friend who factory reset it and needs info on how to reinstall Mountain Lion can help me. I don't know what else to do. If I can't get this thing sorted out, I'll have to drive to the apple store. The closest one is 60 miles away, so I'm not looking forward to that. Is that my only option now? What can I do?
tl;dr I bought a used iMac from a friend who factory reset it, and now I don't know how to reinstall Mountain Lion. What are my options?

If the system didn't ship with Mountain Lion originally and you didn't purchase Mountain Lion yourself, then you will need to purchase. A purchase by the system's original owner cannot be transferred to you.
Unless you have another system on which you have purchased Mountain Lion, you will need to first install Mac OS X 10.6.8 on the iMac, for which you'll need either the original installation disks, if the iMac came with 10.6, or a retail copy of 10.6. Install 10.6 and upgrade to at least 10.6.6, and then you can buy Mountain Lion from the Mac App Store, presuming of course that the imac can support Mountain Lion. See:

  • I've factory reset my iPhone twice, about to be three times. has anyone else had issues that force them to factory reset their phones.

So I got my iPhone 6 on the day it came out and it has been the most frustrating experience I've ever had with apple.  I've had to factory reset my phone twice, probably about to be three times once i get home from work.  The first time was trying to transfer my stuff from my old iPhone and right after it finished my iPhone 6 turned itself off then turned on to the boot up screen (the one with the apple logo) and then shut off then did the same thing.  this forced my to factory reset my new iphone literally the day i got it.  The next day i was trying to upload my music and basically the same thing happened again, forcing me to reset my phone for a second time.  Just now (its been two weeks that I've owned my new phone)i tried to get on twitter and the app crashed then my phone reset itself and when it loaded to the unlock screen, instead of my background it was just a black screen with the time and the unlock slide.  when i unlocked it, it went back to the normal background and the main screen.  Because whenever i would turn off (not power off, but put it to sleep) the phone and turn it back on it would do the same thing.  I decided to restart it (actually turn it completely off and then back on) and now it will show the boot up screen then turn off.  I understand that there is the solution of factory resetting my iPhone, but 3 times in 2 weeks is pretty unacceptable, seeing as i had a 4s for almost 3 years and never once had to factory reset it and its also incredibly annoying to have to redownload all of my stuff.  Has anyone else had this problem? is there anyway i can keep this from continuing to happen?  is it a software issue or is it the phone itself that is messing up?

WiseJD, thank you for your suggestions.  Well the first two restorations were the first and second day (9/19 and 9/20) that i had my 6 and both times i chose to restore is as new.  since then there haven't been any issues until now.  granted the first time my phone messed up was after i used the At&t transfer app which made me think it couldve been something that corrupted my device.  the second time though started with me attempting to download music from the itunes store app on the phone.  for whatever reason it would download but not but it wouldnt process and install the music.  Then i tried to download it from my computer and thats when the second screw up occurred. that time i dont think it was an issue of my phone being corrupted because it was already acting strangely before i ever plugged it into my computer.  This third time, i'm at work so i havent been able to do anything about it, i wasnt downloading anything and my phone was not hooked up to a computer, i simply tried to open twitter and then all this happened. and it has been a solid almost two weeks without incident which makes me think its my phone and not corrupt files.  also looking at forums, not just these but other online, i haven't really seen anyone with the same problem which adds to my thought that its a problem with my phone.
Just to be clear, the first time this happened, the iphone would display the boot up screen then shut off then turn on and display the boot up screen, then shut of and kept going on like that until i put my iphone into recovery mode and factory reset it.  the second time the iphone would display the boot up screen and then shut off, but wouldnt turn on unless i pressed the power button again.  this third time is the same story.  i dont know if this makes a difference or if its symptomatic of different problems but i figured it wouldnt hurt to explain in detail the issues that happened each separate time.
Also on a side note, i havent done anything like jailbreak it, mess with it download or any third party apps not on the app store.

    9 hours??!
Twice the length of a cinema epic?
How are you expecting to distribute it?
    iDVD encoding settings:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=iDVD/7.0/en/11417.html
    Short version:
Best Performance is for videos of up to 60 minutes
Best Quality is for videos of up to 120 minutes
Professional Quality is also for up to 120 minutes but even higher quality (and takes much longer)
That was for single-layer DVDs. Double these numbers for dual-layer DVDs.
Professional Quality: The Professional Quality option uses advanced technology to encode your video, resulting in the best quality of video possible on your burned DVD. You can select this option regardless of your project’s duration (up to 2 hours of video for a single-layer disc and 4 hours for a double-layer disc). Because Professional Quality encoding is time-consuming (requiring about twice as much time to encode a project as the High Quality option, for example) choose it only if you are not concerned abo
In both cases the maximum length includes titles, transitions and effects etc. Allow about 15 minutes for these.
You can use the amount of video in your project as a rough determination of which method to choose. If your project has an hour or less of video (for a single-layer disc), choose Best Performance. If it has between 1 and 2 hours of video (for a single-layer disc), choose High Quality. If you want the best possible encoding quality for projects that are up to 2 hours (for a single-layer disc), choose Professional Quality. This option takes about twice as long as the High Quality option, so select it only if time is not an issue for you.
Use the Capacity meter in the Project Info window (choose Project > Project Info) to determine how many minutes of video your project contains.
NOTE: With the Best Performance setting, you can turn background encoding off by choosing Advanced > “Encode in Background.” The checkmark is removed to show it’s no longer selected. Turning off background encoding can help performance if your system seems sluggish.
And whilst checking these settings in iDVD Preferences, make sure that the settings for NTSC/PAL and DV/DV Widescreen are also what you want.
