Recent files not listed in desktop search of gnome 3.

My recent files are not listed in the desktop search of my gnome 3.
.local/share/recently-used.xbel is in place and contains information about my recent files.
gnome-search-tool is working and was able to find files.
tracker-needle is also working and was able to find files.
Please help me debugg this problem.

My guess is that the desktop search uses locate and thus, it cannot find files that are created after the last run of update-db (which is run by a cron job).
edit: I'm probably right (from gnome-search-tool man page)
GNOME Search Tool uses the find, grep, and locate UNIX commands.

I try to publish my book create with ibooks author( with publish button) and in delivery(using itunes producer) process a itms-9000 errror cancel the whole thing. To be accurate a big list of itms-9000 errors which contains the message:
ERROR ITMS-9000: (name of my file).ibooks: the book asset contains files not listed in the OPF manifest: (name of my file).ibooks:/OPS/assets/widgets/?????????-1/???????.c3d or dae or jpg.
Does anyone had the same problem or can anyone help me to fix this issue???. thank you.

Today I received the same error that you all have been discussing. I tried selecting the DRM
and this did not work for me, though I'm glad it did for some. Here's what I did as a work-around. . .
Since iBooks Author did not have a problem with Videos, I simply used one of my video programs, ScreenFlow to turn the audio into a video file m4v. I added an image and extended the length or timing of the image to span the length of the audio file. Then exported as an .mov. I then opened QuickTime and opened the file and exported the file to iTunes.
You can use iMovie, Camtasia or any other progam that will allow you to export the audio as a movie file. Does this make sense? I hope this helps, at least in the short-term.

Files not displaying on desktop but visible in Spotlight

Hi,
Im running OS X 10.4.7 with all of the latest updates installed. I have this problem where I save files to my desktop but they do not come up. When I search for them in spotlight, they are found and listed as being on the desktop. When I then drag them to the desktop, they appear. Also, when I put files in the trash, I try to delete them and the trash makes the noise but the files remain in there. They dont seem to disappear until I restart my computer. I have tried repairing permissions a number of times but it doesnt mention any permissions as needing repair.
Help please? Im assuming this is a OSX bug but dont have it on any of my other macs.

I dont know what haxies are and am not running any themes. Just running standard Mac OS X.
I deleted the trash from the dock, heard the sound. The icon was still a full bin so I open the trash and saw the three files... when I then mouse clicked on the files, they disappeared and after doing the last one, the icon changed to empty bin. Similar thing happened when I dragged files from spotlight onto desktop, as soon as the files were above the desktop from the spotlight screen, they appeared.

Opening files not listed alphabetically

I have Adobe Illustrator CS3 running on Windows XP Professional. I recently started having a problem when I open files, a window opens showing folders and files in list view by default, and the folders are not listed in alphabetical order. I first thought this was a Windows XP issue, but I'm not having this problem with Windows Explorer or any other applications on my computer, only in Illustrator. Also if I select a different view like Details, I can sort by alphabetical order, but if I close and reopen Illustrator, the view defaults back to List, and the folders do not appear in alphabetical order again. Has anyone run into this problem and know a fix? This is very annoying when you have to work with many folders and looking for a specific one.

You changed the global default folder view. This may not show in normal Explorer views when you chose to store individual settings, but it always affects file dialogs. Set any Explorer view to the desired view, then Tools --> Options --Y View --> Apply to all folders. You may need to temporarily turn off individual folder view settings for Windows to correctly reset all folders.

Why are .xlsm file not listed under spreadsheet in finder?

In finder (os10.8.2) the .xlsm files are listed under documents not spreadsheets. Is there a way to get all spreadsheet listed properly?

There are many, many ways to access your files in iPhoto: You can use any Open / Attach / Browse dialogue. On the left there's a Media heading, your pics can be accessed there. Command-Click for selecting multiple pics.
(Note the above illustration is not a Finder Window. It's the dialogue you get when you go File -> Open)
You can access the Library from the New Message Window in Mail:
There's a similar option in Outlook and many, many other apps. If you use Apple's Mail, Entourage, AOL or Eudora you can email from within iPhoto.
If you use a Cocoa-based Browser such as Safari, you can drag the pics from the iPhoto Window to the Attach window in the browser.
If you want to access the files with iPhoto not running:
For users of 10.6 and later: You can download a free Services component from MacOSXAutomation which will give you access to the iPhoto Library from your Services Menu.
Using the Services Preference Pane you can even create a keyboard shortcut for it.
For Users of 10.4 and 10.5 Create a Media Browser using Automator (takes about 10 seconds) or use this free utility Karelia iMedia Browser
Other options include:
Drag and Drop: Drag a photo from the iPhoto Window to the desktop, there iPhoto will make a full-sized copy of the pic.
File -> Export: Select the files in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export. The dialogue will give you various options, including altering the format, naming the files and changing the size. Again, producing a copy.
Show File: a. On iPhoto 09 and earlier: Right- (or Control-) Click on a pic and in the resulting dialogue choose 'Show File'. A Finder window will pop open with the file already selected. 3.b.
b: On iPhoto 11 and later: Select one of the affected photos in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Reveal in Finder -> Original. A Finder window will pop open with the file already selected.

In search results, Summary sometimes shows the top of file, not the text I searched for

I'm searching lots of html files, it's a web site that's not imported into Sharepoint. Search is returning the correct files, but about half the time the Summary contains the text at the top of the html file, not the text surrounding the text I searched
for. It's a big problem, users have to open the file then find the search text to see if it's useful.
If I search for 'potato' here's an example Summary which is ok:

Here's a Summary just showing text from the top of the file, 'potato' is present, but lower in the file:

You can't attach a screenshot to the first post that starts a thread, but you can do that in subsequent replies.
Does this only happen on one specific website?
Can you post a link to a publicly accessible page (i.e. no authentication or signing on required)?
It is possible that there is a problem with that web page and that there is a clear:both CSS rule missing that causes Firefox to start the next line at the horizontal position where the previous line ended.
If you have made changes to Advanced font settings like increasing the minimum/default font size then try the default minimum setting "none" and the default font size 16 in case the current setting is causing problems.
*Firefox > Preferences > Content : Fonts & Colors > Advanced > Minimum Font Size (none)
Make sure that you allow pages to choose their own fonts.
*Firefox > Preferences > Content : Fonts & Colors > Advanced: [X] "Allow pages to choose their own fonts, instead of my selections above"

Time Machine files not listed?

I just backed up with Time Machine for the first time onto an external hard drive. Because I'm paranoid, I wanted to go through the Time Machine files and make sure everything backed up properly but when I looked through them for individual songs, photos or documents, they weren't listed on the external drive (just on my hard drive in their original location). Am I doing something incorrectly or is this the way TM is supposed to work? Thanks.

Thanks - I went into Finder and looked through the Time Machine backup files, and while I saw certain applications, etc. when I searched for specific files they were not there.
In the past, when I'd backup just by dragging folders onto a CD or external drive that was still connected to my computer, when I'd then search for the files in Finder it would list them twice - once in each location (the hard drive and the external drive) but that didn't happen with Time Machine - just wanted to make sure I was using the program properly and that all the files are indeed backed up so that I don't need to go back to the old method....

Files not appearing on desktop after downloading

I've had this problem for the last few months were my downloads don't appear on my desktop (my default location for both Firefox and Safari) for maybe ten minutes or so after finishing. The don't even appear in the desktop folder in finder. When I use safari to download, the temporary "download progress icon" stays on my desktop after the download has finished. Then when I single click it, it disappears. If I move on to something else or leave the room or something when I come back the downloaded file will be on the desktop. This only affects the desktop. When I choose a different folder to download to it works fine.
This same issue, whatever it is, seems to affect my trash also. Whenever I notice a full trashcan I always immediately empty it. Well lately, when I try to, nothing happens. So I open it in finder, and the trash looks to be still there. But when I single click any of the icons they disappear. I have to click every icon to empty the trash.
Usually now if I have either of these problems (especially the downloads issue) I just reboot. This solves both problems. When it boots up, the download is on my desktop or the trash can is empty.
Does anyone know what the heck is going on?

I have what seems to be almost exactly the same problem. The only difference I can think of is that I notice it when I try to "save" something to the desktop. It takes a long time for anything I save to the desktop to show up. It doesn't show up in the finder either. If I do a search for it, however, it will show up all of a sudden.
I also have the same problem with the trash. It sounds as if they're related.
Any thoughts would be welcome

Pdf files not listed in the preferences/application list, pdf won't load

I am using Mountain Lion and have Adobe reader 10.1.4 installed. When I click on a site to download a pdf file, I get a blank screen and no download (worked fine before mountain lion) I went to the preferences/applications screen and pdf isn't listed in the app list. How can I get to appear there so that I can assign an action to use reader to open it.

I disabled Acrobat as you suggested and it immediately corrected the problem. Then I changed from preview to Reader in the open with dialogue.

Bbb backup file not listed 'Select a backup file to restore'

Hello Forum
Today i made a full backup of my z10. After that i installed OS10.3 and wanted to import (parts) the backup via BB Link. That did not work; Link could not 'see' the bbb-file.
So I reinstalled 10.2 and tried the same thru BB Link. Did not work either.
BB backupextractor could not read the file ('can not read it as a zip file')
Winrar says 'unexpected end of archive' and cannot extract even one single file.
The bbb file in itself is 2.79gb
What to do?

Not my expertise but I am replying because no-one replyed, maybe after reading this post someone who knows more will reply.
Winrar creates rar or zip files so backup cannot read those files, maybe if you delete those files but keep them in the recycle bin just in case (because you can open them and see your data) then see if backup can read the bbb file if you have one, as you did say the bbb file is 2.79 gb.

IPod recently does not mount to desktop, intermitten problem

My iPod dos not want to mount to desktop on my G5. This is something of an intermittent problem. I plug into firewire port, iPod comesalive, shows main screen. Nothing happens. After a while iPod goes to sleep and shows chargin icon.
This is pretty intermittent, but seems to be getting worse as time goes on. I began to think there was something physically wrong with the cabel, port etc. until I realized it had to be getting a signal to be charging.
Any good ideas?

Interestingly enough, it mounted fine when using a USB cable. Now I wonder if the problem is in the firewire cable of the firewire port.

I would try resetting the photoshop elements 6 preferences and see if that makes a difference.
reset preferences
Press and hold the Shift+Ctrl+Alt keys down just after starting the launch of the photoshop elements 6 editor
Keep holding the keys down until you get a dialog asking if you want to delete the adobe photoshop elements settings file
Press Yes
Are these files ones you made in photosghop cc?
