Recent iPod Undater will not install.

I recently downloaded the latest (6/28/06) iPod Software Update. Last night when I connected my 4G iPod Nano to my G5 iMac I got the message saying there was updated software available and do I want to update now. I clicked update and was brought to the Update/Restore screen. The Update button was grayed out so I selected the Restore option.
After doing a restore I could not get the iPod to be recognized by iTunes and everytime I connected it I got the same update notice but the Update button was always grayed out.
To "fix" the problem I opened the iPod Update package released prior to 6/28/06. That one worked fine (the Update button was active and the update was applied) and once I did that update the iPod was again visible in iTunes and I reinstalled my music.
My question is, has anyone else had a problem with the 6/28/06 update? If so, is there a work around? This is the first time I have hasd an issue with an Apple software update.
Any help and/or suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks.
David

Lots of people have been complaining about the new updater. I have no probs except the contacts won't show on the main menu, this is for everyone. I'm skipping this one and don't worry about it apple really screwed up this updater

  • IPod Shuffle will not install or connect to iTunes!

I recently got a Toshiba laptop so had to transfer everything from my old laptop to there. As expected I re-installed iTunes and install my iPhone 4S, iPod Classic, Touch & Nano all work fine. However, my iPod Shuffle 3rd Gen (the one with no buttons) will not install its driver to my PC or connect to iTunes. I dont have a clue what is wrong as when I plug it in it charges with the light and it plays music thats on it from my old laptop fine! The only onboard button is the 3 way switch (OFF/REPLAY/SHUFFLE).
I give many thanks to any help given!
    Thanks,

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode

    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • IPod Classic will not sync since installed iTunes 11

iPod Classic will not sync properly since installed new iTunes. Always stops at or around song 2 and just hangs there, even if left all night. Tried restoring the iPod, made no difference. Tried syncing just some songs, sometimes it will do 20 or so but not more than that - and I have 10,000 songs.
Saw something about problem with Winsock and reset that but no effect.
Recently been re-recording CDs in Apple Lossless with 'Convert to AAC' selected for iPod. Maybe the conversion process is causing the block? But it did not before.
I also tried moving the itunes material from the Synology NAS to the PC as I thought the processing power might be the problem. It synced once after that, now it is blocked again. Tonight I tried selecting only the original AAC files and it seems to have worked for them, my problem therefore seems to be the Apple Lossless - unless the syncing of AAC files is another one-off.
Not for the first time I wish I had not updated iTunes because it so often leads to problems of some kind. Why do they not care?
    Any

Update: following successful sync of AAC files, I changed the setting to 'manual' for music & videos, used the View menu to restore the old sidebar, and manually added the Lossless files to the IPod. That actually seems to be working (very slowly). But it would be better if Sync worked as it should.

  • I have installed the most recent version of Snow Leopard on my MAC, and I am trying to install Mountain Lion from the Apple Store.  It will not install, because it says I do not have 2GB of memory, even though I have over 200GB available.  Please help.

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
One thing is the memory, and another thing is the hard disk space. You are telling me that you have 200 GB of free space on the hard disk, but the App Store is telling you that you have to install 2 GB of memory or more on your Mac if you want to upgrade to OS X Mountain Lion.
First of all, open  > About this Mac > More Info, and copy "Model Identifier" here, so we can know what Mac you have got and how much memory you can install.
We recommend to buy the memory in OWC or Crucial (Crucial is cheaper and offers the same compatibility warranty as OWC) because you won't probably have any problem with the memory you buy there

Need to know your Mac model. If it's a PowerPC, the max OS is Leopard 10.5.x. If it's an Intel procesor, you can upgrade to Snow Leopard (for $29) & later to Lion.

  • Ipod Touch will not sync with Itunes 12.1.1.4 64 bit

I have recently updated itunes and on the back of doing so my Ipod touch will not sync my library. The Ipod itself is a couple of years old but using iOS 6.1.6.
I have deleted and re-installed Itunes. I have wiped my Ipod to start again. I have set it to sync over Wi-fi and nothing has worked. I physically plug the Ipod in and it gets detected. If I change a setting and click apply it briefly says syncing and then nothing.
I have set automatically download Itunes songs etc etc etc and absolutely nothing seems to get it to sync!
    Help!

You said " If I change a setting and click apply it briefly says syncing and then nothing.".
How many steps are completed? What is listed in the status bar of iTunes when it stops?

  • HT204095 Apple Mobile Device USB Driver will not install

I've followed the steps to stop and restart Apple Mobile Device Service.  I've deleted 3rd party software I thought would conflict.  I uninstalled/reinstalled ITunes several times, but it will not recognize my iPod.

For general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.
The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down the page in case one of them applies.
The section Install missing components may help if a particular component will not install when using the main iTunes setup program.
The further information area has direct links to the current and recent builds in case you have problems downloading, need to revert to an older version, or want to try the iTunes for Windows (64-bit - for older video cards) release as a workaround for installation or performance issues, or compatibility with QuickTime or third party software.
Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there are also links to backup and recovery advice should it be needed.

  • I am trying to use an education program that needs Java applets to install and use and it will not use Safari. When I download IE from the web it will not install. How can I get a browser that will work on my MacAir for travel use of this program?

I am trying to use and education program that needs Java applets and it will not run on Safari. IE will not install from the web. How do I get a browser that will work to install so I can use this program when I travel.

Try using FireFox. IE will only run on a Mac if you run Windows on the Mac.
    Windows on Intel Macs
There are presently several alternatives for running Windows on Intel Macs.
Install the Apple Boot Camp software.  Purchase Windows 7 or Windows 8.  Follow instructions in the Boot Camp documentation on installation of Boot Camp, creating Driver CD, and installing Windows.  Boot Camp enables you to boot the computer into OS X or Windows.
Parallels Desktop for Mac and Windows XP, Vista Business, Vista Ultimate, or Windows 7.  Parallels is software virtualization that enables running Windows concurrently with OS X.
VM Fusion and Windows XP, Vista Business, Vista Ultimate, or Windows 7.  VM Fusion is software virtualization that enables running Windows concurrently with OS X.
CrossOver which enables running many Windows applications without having to install Windows.  The Windows applications can run concurrently with OS X.
VirtualBox is a new Open Source freeware virtual machine such as VM Fusion and Parallels that was developed by Solaris.  It is not as fully developed for the Mac as Parallels and VM Fusion.
Note that Parallels and VM Fusion can also run other operating systems such as Linux, Unix, OS/2, Solaris, etc.  There are performance differences between dual-boot systems and virtualization.  The latter tend to be a little slower (not much) and do not provide the video performance of the dual-boot system. See MacTech.com's Virtualization Benchmarking for comparisons of Boot Camp, Parallels, and VM Fusion. A more recent comparison of Parallels, VM Fusion, and Virtual Box is found at Virtualization Benchmarks- Parallels 10 vs. Fusion 7 vs. VirtualBox. Boot Camp is only available with Leopard and later. Except for Crossover and a couple of similar alternatives like DarWine you must have a valid installer disc for Windows.
You must also have an internal optical drive for installing Windows. Windows cannot be installed from an external optical drive.

  • II have downloaded several Apps that state they work with iTouch but they will not install and give error message that I need updated software, while all my updates available are installed on both iTouch and my computer iTunesWhy will Mindtools app not

My iPod Touch will not function with certain updated apps ie MindTools, YP.com, Mint, Ymessenger etc and I get the error message that I need to install updated software to load these apps to my iPod Touch; however, I have double checked and all the software updates have been loaded in obht the iPod touch and my computer. There are no updates availabe; yet the error message on App is a software update is required for App. "was not installed because it requires a newer version of iPod software."
The iPod Touch is using 3.1.3 software and it tells me that is the current and updated software version.

You are correct in that your 1G iPod Touch has all the latest software updates.  It can only be updated to version 3.1.
However that Apps you are trying to download and install likely require iOS version 4.0 or later, which is not compatible with your iPod Touch.  So either you'll need to buy a newer iPod Touch or find other Apps that are suitable replacements if possible.
    Sorry.

  • IPad 2 Restore - Apps Will NOT Install

I have recently been having intermittent problems with my home button being unresponsive on my iPad 2.  I decided I would try a restore to see if this would resolve the problem.  The home button issue may be better (more time will tell) but whoa did this create an entire new set of challenges.
    What I did:
    1) Went into iTunes to update all apps afterwards performed multiple syncs and backups just to be safe.
    2) After restore to factory settings was completed I attempted to restore iPad 2 to my latest backup from earlier in the morning.
    3) Attempted restore multiple times each time an error message states:  The app "x" was not installed on the iPad because the app could not be found
    4) The 26 missing Apps appear in iTunes with a "Will Install" button.  Pressing this button changes it to "Install".  Attempted several additional syncs but apps would not appear on iPad.  I also tried to restore with the iPad off, USB disconnected, holding down the home button, attaching the USB Factory Restore to no avail.  All of the missing apps are current and available in iTunes such as:  Amazon, Google, Facebook, LinkedIn, AroundMe, Yelp, Cards, BBC News, etc...you get it...common basic apps all gone missing.
    5) Went into iTunes Store on the iPad 2.  Searched in folder for Not on this iPad and Purchased.  Several purchased apps were missing from the list but some were there.  I tried to manually download the apps that were listed from the Cloud as well as manually enter the app name to re-download and install.  All of my missing apps when searched had the Cloud download icon even if they didn't appear in the Not on this iPad or Purchased screens.
    6) I am currently attempting to download all the missing apps from the Cloud and will try another sync.
    7) What should have been a very short an easy restore has now gone on for over 5 hours as I try multiple syncs, restarts, restores...
Does anyone know what is happening and how to prevent it in the future?
All of my software is up to date.  I am running OS X 10.8.4, iOS 6.1.3, all apps were updated on both device and iTunes library this morning prior to restore.
My iTunes settings for backups is set to iCloud automotic however I performed a backup to computer before attempting the initial restore.
    Please help!
    Thanks!!!

I have a similar issue. I recently purchased an iPad Mini, and I started off by backing it up from the apps I had on my iPhone. Now, I have a number of apps that never downloaded and that I don't want on the iPad. Some of these are apps that I don't need, while others are the iPhone versions of apps. There are something like 23 apps that I have no use for, but iTunes tries to install every time I connect. I've also tried clicking the 'Will Install' buttons. There's no way to delete these apps from the iPad without first installing them, as far as I can see, and there's no way to NOT install them, in iTunes.
It''s not just annoying, it's causing problems with installation of larger files and movies. Now, every time I sync to the computer, I get a warning that I'm over capacity by 580 MB, and larger apps will not install! Clicking Revert and a bunch of other things doesn't work, either. And I can't just delete some of the apps, because I or my wife use them on our phones!

  • 10.6 Will not install from disc to a S.M.A.R.T. verified, zero-wiped, manufacturer's original, internal hard-drive.

I recently wiped my main drive using zero-data process.  It seems to be "okay" when verifying its integrity.  It is also "verified" according to S.M.A.R.T.
10.6 from Apple's Installation Disc will not install.  It makes 20 estimated minutes remaining, then tells me it cannot copy necessary files.  Is my superdrive defective out-of-box and also a year later or is my installation disc a defect?  Online communities fail to provide any other causes.
By the way, using Recovery HD to download and install Lion is a failure.  It tried three times, each ending in failure, unable to verify said package.  Apple, try harder.
    [email protected]

I think my superdrive might be defective.  It ratchets an awful lot while trying to copy necessary files for installing Snow Leopard.  I am taking to a Genius Bar, running a hardware test consistently gets locked up.  Here is more on that!:
Inserted retail Hardware Test disc, booted holding D.
Probing took 12 hours and counting, I hard reset my computer.
(Suggested by others) I unplugged my Logitech mouse and, wow!, probing completed.
During pass one of mem test, it locked up showing no progress for an hour-- hard reset!
Apple's Hardware Test was a total failure on my end.  An ethernet connection to a router and my Apple keyboard were the only things connected to my 2011 iMac while booting to this hardware test!  Bummer!  I trust my Apple team will have better diagnostic equipment.
Can Apple Hardware Test even determine if an iMac's superdrive is bad?
