"Recent items" doesn't display servers

"Recent items" shows applications and documents - but doesn't display servers. In System Preferences Appearance I have display 10 items set for them all. I tried trashing com.apple.recentitems.plist - but it hasn't helped.
It used to show everything correctly - but after I cleared the menu - the "servers" bit stopped working.

Hi John,
First of all, you have connected to a server(s) since you cleared the menu? If that's the case, I believe that "Recent Items" is a function of Finder so try this:
Navigate to ~(yourHome)/Library/Preferences and trash these two files:
com.apple.finder.plist
com.apple.sidebarlists.plist
Then log out and back in again. Or restart.
(You will have to reset a few finder prefs the way you like them.)
Let us know.

  • Apple Menu: "Recent Items" doesn't work proper anymore

    Hi,
i switched from 10.5.8 to 10.6.4 and recognized that the "recent items" in the Apple Menu doesn't work proper anymore.
While OS X is running everything works fine. When i restart the computer all recent items are cleared.
I want it to behave like it did in 10.5.8, that all recent items where displayed even after a restart.
I recognized that the "open recent" command in applications like TextEdit or Preview behave the same. While the Program is running everything works fine . If I close and restart the app, open recent is cleared.
I tried do adjust it under Appearance in the System Preferences, but if i set all Numbers of recent items to "none" for example and restart the computer it will be set for each (Application, Document, Server) back to 10 again.
Hope someone can tell me a solution because i use "open/ recent Items" alot and it really disturbes my workflow.

p.s.: I did a quick forum search and did not find any topic about it.

    Hi Andy,
thanks..i checked the preferences for the com.apple.recentitems.plist and didn't find one.
It seems like the system doesn't write down which items i loaded. I trashed this .plist earlier because i
    saw that hint somewhere else.
i did like you said and created a new user account, tested different apps and documents, restarded and everything was displayed proper in the "recent items" Appel menu and in the "open recent" of every App.
I searched in the test account for the com.apple.recentitems.plist, copied it to the preferences of my account and restarted the computer. In the "recent items" displayed the Items that i used with the test account but after several tests it is clear that the system doesn't write down the recent items when i open my account. The com.apple.recentitems.plist still showes only the items i used with the Test account and the info of the file says that it wasn't touched sinced i copied it from the test to my account.
The Terminal command didn't change anything. The question is why doesn't the system write down wich items and documents i used when i'm in my account?

  • Genius Mix item doesn't display in sidebar

On both my Macs - a Mac mini and a MacBook Air - the Genius Mix item does not display in the sidebar. I've tried turing off and on Genius, updating it, etc, and nothing works.
This did work when the feature was first released, and I turned it off after a while. It's odd that it simply doesn't display, even though the Genius feature itself works fine (within the limits of the music it recognizes).
Any ideas on how to get it to display?

click here and follow the instructions.

  • "Recent Items" doesn't show all recent items

I have a file type I use commonly that never shows up on the Recent Items list. Why?
Actually, none of my InDesign files show up. Is this just Mac acting like Microsoft and only showing recently used MICROSOFT files instead of all files?
I thought that Mac people were better than that! After using Mac's since 1985, I am SERIOUSLY frustrated with the lack of Mac I'm getting with Leopard. It's been terribly MICROSOFTED.
    This *****!
Not to mention wasting hours of my time finding absolutely NO DATA about this in the help, or the knowledge base (talk about copying windows).

I just tried it and my InDesign files show up in the Apple menu's Recent folder after I open them using the Finder - they do not appear after being saved or opened using Adobe's interface to do. Adobe must be bypassing the standard Open and Save file dialogs used by the operating system and in doing so these file operations are not cataloged by the Finder for the recent items menu.
Do you have the sidebar turned on in your Finder folders? There is a section for custom search results or smart folders or whatever they are being called today - where you can store a search for all InDesign Files created in the past week or month or whatever criteria - could even use a tag in the file name by project to have separate folders for each - and you could even go into your Library folder (under your user name) and take that saved search and make it a shortcut on your doc or using an App such as FruitMenu from Unsanity.com you could even make this a custom item on the Apple menu.
Two pieces of advice for you.
    1. Don't get upset with Apple when the issue is with Adobe's code.
    2. Take any opportunity where the system or an app does not work as you would like it to find a creative solution that works better for you than the built in options.
Also I feel your pain I have been there - and in the process discovered some truly amazing third party apps that suit my needs wonderfully - some of which have even been purchased by Apple and incorporated into the base operating system.

  • My recent items list appears again after restart. How do I delete it for good?

When I turn on the computer, the recent items list still displays the documents and applications I worked with a few days ago. I delete it, and after restarting the computer, it displays the same list again (not a new list, but the exact same items over and over again).  Any tips?

Select the iPod shuffle in the iTunes sidebar (under DEVICES).  If this is a current 4th (or 3rd) gen iPod shuffle, you should be able to see the contents of the shuffle by type, intented under the shuffle's name (still in the sidebar).  Select Music or Audiobooks (not sure where those items from the library will be listed).  The items will be listed to the right, for each category.  Find the items, select, and delete.
It's on page 20 of the manual
    http://manuals.info.apple.com/en_US/iPod_shuffle_4thgen_User_Guide.pdf
NOTE:  If this is an 1st or 2nd gen iPod shuffle, select the iPod shuffle in the iTunes sidebar (under DEVICES).  Over to the right, go to the Contents tab, where the items are listed.  Select and delete them from this list.
I find it more convenient to make a playlist in iTunes with things I want to put on the shuffle.  I then set up automatic syncing (or use autofill) to have iTunes load the shuffle from that playlist, automatically.

  • Is there a way of displaying  the various item in my Downloads folder as icons arranged in order of Date Created, such that the most recent items appear at the bottom, rather than the top?

Is there a way of displaying  the various item in my Downloads folder as icons arranged in order of Date Created, such that the most recent items appear at the bottom, rather than the top? I know this can be done when they are displayed as a list, but I want icons!

    Hi geezer,
when you open your 'Downloads' folder choose 'View'  in the Menu bar and choose:
    'as List'
    'Show View Options'
In 'View options' window you tick:
    'Always open in list view'
    'Date Modified', or
    'Date created'
Now inside the 'Downloads' folder click on 'Date Created' (or 'Date Modified')
column to get items alined from oldest to newest date (or reverse)…

  • Is this normal to find Servers in "Recent Items"?

While I have been trying to save data on a crashed computer – the Desktop has disappeared and the Finder can't be found – I found something I have never noticed before.
On the menu at the top of the screen, when I click on "Recent Items" I find "Servers". Under "Servers", I find two blue colored drives called "Scan" and "SharedDocs".
I am doing file sharing at the moment but I don't use the names "Scan" or "SharedDocs".
Before my Desktop disappeared and the hard drive got corrupted, I wasn't doing any file sharing. All I was doing was backing up my computer. The backup failed though because the external drive got disconnected from the computer when the lid of the Macbook Air suddenly opened to 180 degrees (the hinge is broken).
I restarted the computer and attempted to backup the computer again but that failed and then the hard drive filled up all of a sudden. I did Disk Repair using the installation disc but that was when the Desktop and Finder disappeared. This is to give some background to what happened. I don't think anyone is spying on me but I don't remember seeing the Servers before under "Recent Items". Maybe they have been there all along but I haven't noticed them.

If I can help set your mind at rest, this is normal. If you look in the Finder preferences (if you can find them -- see below) they are fourth in the list of items to show on the desktop, and I would guess that this may be related.
The names you are seeing my be partitions on the disks you have been connecting to.
It sounds as if you have major disk corruption and the fact that it filled up suddenly suggests the Finder was unable to report the data correctly. If you have the data off (backed up) then you will lose nothing by trying to erase and then reinstalling the OS. If there are any problems during that process, it would indicate a defective hard disk and replacement is the best option.

  • JSP doesn't display Oracle varchar2 Items on screen

I recently bought new laptop with windows XP professional with service pack 2. Loaded Oracle 10g Client on it. I have a Dell server with Linux and Oracle database 9i. Accessed the this database through new laptop using SQL plus window and works OK. (With that it is sure that my hosts file updated correct with proper IP address of server and tnsnames.ora files).
I have created a JSP application to access this database. It works perfectly OK in my old laptop with Windows XP home with service pack1. The connections are established through ODBC Data Source Administrator (Control Panel->Administrative Tools->Data Sources) by adding a System Data Source. The application works perfectly OK and displays all fields that I intended and coded for. Only thing is it has Oracle 9i client.
But the same application in the new laptop doesn't work properly. It doesn't display Varchar2 values. It displays only Number and Date data types. This shows it is connecting to the database (oracle 9i). But varchar2 values are not displayed. The connections are established through ODBC Data Source Administrator.
I'm using Tomcat server (jakart-tomcat-5.0.27) on both the laptop. Please help me here.

Suggestion: don't use the ODBC driver to connect to Oracle. I presume you are using sun's JDBC-ODBC bridge?
Oracle have got a reasonably good 100% java JDBC driver which is all you need, and is a lot better than the ODBC bridge. I would recommend using the Oracle thin driver.
Your java code should remain largely unchanged. The only thing you would need to alter would be
    1 - driver class being loaded (oracle.jdbc.driver.OracleDriver)
2 - driver url (default would be something like: jdbc:oracle:thin:@127.0.0.1:1521:ORCL)
3 - You would need the oracle jdbc driver in the classpath (ojdbc14.jar) You can find that in [ORA_HOME]/jdbc/lib
If you've written your database connection using a JNDI datasource, then all you would need to change would be the configuration in your tomcat server.
    Hope this helps,

  • Unknown Servers in Recent Items

I have a small network in my home over a Time Capsule and Airport Extreme. I have the Time Capsule set up as a server to use its hard drive. In my recent servers list under Recent Items, there are a number of servers with what appear to be Japanese characters. What is this?? I don't recognize any of these.

If I can help set your mind at rest, this is normal. If you look in the Finder preferences (if you can find them -- see below) they are fourth in the list of items to show on the desktop, and I would guess that this may be related.

  • Credentials For Servers In Recent Items List?

I've been having one or two minor problems going to items that appear in the Servers section of Apple>Recent Items ...
I tried to use it to mount a share on a Windows XP machine that I had previously opened. I got prompted for credentials and found that I couldn't make it work again until I entered the user name in the format DOMAINNAME\username.
I later tried to mount it again. I was again prompted for credentials. Despite me saving them in my keychain, the system appeared to not be storing the DOMAINNAME part. I suspected a problem with my keychain and found two entries for the server: one with the right credentials and the other without.
Now when I mount the share it just does it without asking for credentials. Is that how it should work?
    Thanks
    IanB

  • In 10.10 the "recent documents" pulldown does not display actual recent items--it shows the same items time after time. How can I fix that?

In previous versions of OS 10, the "recent items" pull down from the Apple icon (top left) actually showed recent items.  In this version, 10.10, the same items display time after time rather than displaying recent items.  How can this be fixed?

Back up all data before proceeding.
Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
    ~/Library/Containers/com.apple.corerecents.recentsd
Right-click or control-click the line and select
Services ▹ Reveal in Finder (or just Reveal)
from the contextual menu.* A folder should open with an item selected. Move the selected item to the Trash. Log out or restart the computer and test.
*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination  command-C. In the Finder, select
              Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar and paste into the box that opens by pressing command-V. You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.

  • How to display 20 Recent Items on Nav bar

    Hi, everyone.
I use CRM7.0.  Recent Items displays 5 on Navigation bar. However, our customer requires to display 20 items on this field. Does anyone have tips about this?
    BestRegards.
    Miki.

    Hi miki,
The user can personalize the amount of recent items he'd like to see. On the homepage, choose personalize, then click Personalize Navigation Bar. Select Recent Items in the dropdown and then set the number of rows. Currently you can select up to 10 entries. If you want to change this, you'll have to enhance component BSP_DLC_PERS. To set the amount from 10 to 20 you'll have to redefine method FILL_DLG_TABLE in view controller ZL_CRM_BSP__RECENTOBJECT0_IMPL (enhanced view controller from CL_CRM_BSP__RECENTOBJECT0_IMPL). Copy the original method. On line 60 of this method you'll find:
    WHILE lv_index <= CL_CRM_BSP__RECENTOBJECT0_IMPL=>GC_MAX_ENTRIES_DDLB.
    Change this in
    WHILE lv_index <= 20.
    Hope this helps!
    Cheers, Roel

  • Why doesn't the "recent items" menu update?

The recent items menus on Final Cut Pro and DVD Studio neve update, cna clearing the menu doesn't help...how can I fix this?

don't know, but there are certain basic troubleshooting steps that might help.  Delete FCP and DVDSP preferences using preference manager (go to digital rebellion's site for free download)
    www.digitalrebellion.com
Do other programs' recent items update?  Does the systems recent items in the apple menu update?  If not, it's probably an os problem rather than an final cut studio problem.  You might try repairing permissions in the diskutility.

  • 'Open Recent' doesn't display recent files

    Hi,
When I open Pages and choose 'Open Recent' it always says Clear Menu. That's it. No names of recent files, no matter how many files I've recently created/worked on. How do I activate it?

What do you have set in System Preferences > Appearance > Number of recent items > Documents? I've read that that setting can affect Pages. I have System Preferences set at 20 & that is what I get in File > Open recent in Pages. Changing it to 5 doesn't affect the Pages list, even restarting Pages doesn't affect it. You may need to restart your Mac for the change to take effect.
