Recent items tab is locked

I changed users on my ibook. I imported the appleworks preferences and user data from the old user to the new.
Now when I open Appleworks the Recent Items tab in Starting points has a paddle lock icon. I assume that I cannot add or delete items to this Tab. Any way to unlock it?
The other problem I'm having in the new user account is that I cannot save a document anyplace in the new user window. When I try to save a new document to the desktop, I get an error message that says volume not found.
I can save just fine in my administrator account and its recent items tab has no lock icon.
All suggestions appreciated.

Hi Waring,
Welcome to Apple Discussions and the AppleWorks forum.
This is probably a permissions issue—your current User account doesn't have read-write permission for the folder holding Recent Items.
In the Finder, go to HD > username > Documents > Appleworks User Data > Starting Points > Recent Items.
Click on the folder, then press command-I to Get Info.
Show Details in the Owner and Permissions section of the Get Info window, then set all three menus to Read and Write. This may require an admin password, or may need to be done from your Admin account.
Regards,
Barry

  • Appleworks crashes when "recent items" is selected

After upgrading to 10.5 recently, Appleworks (v. 6.2.9--yeah, upgrade it) when I select the "recent items" tab, I will hear the drive accessing for 13 seconds then the app disappears. After another 12 seconds I get the "quit unexpectedly" alert box.
Files will open if clicked on. Appleworks that is on a 10.4.11 partition still works as expected.
    PROBLEM RESOLVED
While checking on behavior for details while making this post, I found the cause of the problem. When I added an external drive and moved most of my data files to a new location, none of the aliases of "recent items" could link to the new location. When I deleted all of the recent aliases in the AppleWorks folder there is no longer a crash. Previously, when a link couldn't be found, it was greyed out. Guess when none of the links worked, Works had a nervous breakdown.

This is a very old bug described for years.
It strikes also when "Recent items" is not selected!

  • My recent items list appears again after restart. How do I delete it for good?

When I turn on the computer, the recent items list still displays the documents and applications I worked with a few days ago. I delete it, and after restarting the computer, it displays the same list again (not a new list, but the exact same items over and over again).  Any tips?

Select the iPod shuffle in the iTunes sidebar (under DEVICES).  If this is a current 4th (or 3rd) gen iPod shuffle, you should be able to see the contents of the shuffle by type, intented under the shuffle's name (still in the sidebar).  Select Music or Audiobooks (not sure where those items from the library will be listed).  The items will be listed to the right, for each category.  Find the items, select, and delete.
It's on page 20 of the manual
    http://manuals.info.apple.com/en_US/iPod_shuffle_4thgen_User_Guide.pdf
NOTE:  If this is an 1st or 2nd gen iPod shuffle, select the iPod shuffle in the iTunes sidebar (under DEVICES).  Over to the right, go to the Contents tab, where the items are listed.  Select and delete them from this list.
I find it more convenient to make a playlist in iTunes with things I want to put on the shuffle.  I then set up automatic syncing (or use autofill) to have iTunes load the shuffle from that playlist, automatically.

  • Preview doesn't show 'open recent' items

When Preview is open, File-->Open Recent shows only 'clear recent'. Checking all different values for 'recent items' in System Preferences makes no difference in Preview. Some other apps work with 'Open Recent' (eg Pages) but not all (eg TextEdit behaves as Preview). Anybody see something similar, or know a fix? Thanks!

Triple-click the line below to select it:
    ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.Preview.LSSharedFileList.plist
Right-click or control-click the highlighted line and select
    Services ▹ Show Info
from the contextual menu.* An Info dialog should open.
Does the dialog show "You can read and write" in the Sharing & Permissions section?
In the General section, is the box labeled Locked checked?
    What is the Modified date?
*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C). Open a TextEdit window and paste into it (command-V). Select the line you just pasted and continue as above.

  • Recent Items:- Sort by date?

    Hi everyone,
has anybody figured out a way to sort recent items by date order rather than alphabetically. I'm totally frustrated at being unable to do this. i look forward to your replies

    Hello
    I already passed this script.
Using it, you will be able to select a «Recent Item» from a chronologically sorted list.
    -- [SCRIPT Choisir1récent3]
    Supprime les alias récents "orphelins"
Trie les éléments restants par ordre chronologique.
Permet alors de choisir celui que l'on veut ouvrir.
    • Remove orphans recent items aliases
    sort them by modification date
Allows us to choose one to open it.

  • Prevent .ichat files in Recent Items

    Hey all...
Just started using iChat over Adium. So far, so good... but I'm noticing in my "recent items" (under Apple menu), it's filled up with .ichat files.
Is there a way to preclude .ichat files from showing up in Recent Items? I rarely need to go back to a particular chat, but often need to reopen a recent application file.
    Thanks!
    Charlie

    Hi,
There is nothing in iChat that controls this.
Where does Adium keep saved Chats ?
iChat keeps them in a folder called iChats in the Users Document folder (Hard Drive/Users/(your account/little house icon)/Documents/iChats) by default.
If Adium does not keep them in Documents (even in a sub folder) then it may pay to change the iChat Location.
I have not tried to change the location in iChat for some time as it did not work that well in iChat 2 and 3.
It is set in iChat Menu > Preferences > Messages and the "Save Chats Automatically To (Drop Down)"
I just tried this in iChat 4 using the "Other" Option in that Drop down that lets you navigate away from the Documents folder and Create a new folder if required.
I created a new one on the Desktop (Called iChatDesktop to prevent naming issues).
However this still put them in the Recent Items list of the Finder
I had thought the Appearance Settings effected apps as well as th Finder > Recent Items lists
But reducing the System Preferences > Appearance to 5 Documents only reduced the Finder's list and not iChat's own list - even with a restart of iChat.
(On Checking I may have done that with Tinker Tool)
Tinker Tool does not offer any exclusion list either under the Finder or General sections/icons/tabs.

  • Can't specify number of recent items in Excel Jump List (from taskbar)

Hi ... I've read a large number of posts about this, and all seem to point to the same general solutions. However, the posted solutions aren't working for me.
My problem: right-clicking Excel and Word in my taskbar shows me my pinned files; but the memory for recent items only ever lists the most recent three. I recently bought a new computer; I'm running Windows 8 and Office 2010. I'd love to have my recent items
list 10 or a dozen items. I've tried deleting the AutomaticDestinations file; I've toggled the Taskbar/Properties boxes for storing recently opened items; in Excel and Word, on the File tab, I've clicked "Quickly access this number of recent docs, and
    set it at 10.
I'm at my wit's end. It's how I've come to navigate both programs, and I access a few files quite often at once, which makes this option very handy ... if I can get it above three!
    I'd love some help! Thanks.

    Hi,
I got the same result on my machine as Keith's. Once I remove all pinned items, the Jump List will work well. So it might has something to do with the number of pinned entries you have.
Setting the number of recent items to a higher value does increase my recent list, so please have a try.
Also, the option of "Quickly access this number of recent workbooks" on File>Recent page doesn't control the
Jump List on taskbar. Jump List is a Windows feature, I would suggest you check in the forum of

  • How do i delete "recently closed tabs" and "recently closed windows"?

I simply can not get rid of cache with recently opened tabs and recently opened windows.

Delete the files sessionstore.js and sessionstore.bak and any existing files sessionstore-##.js with a number in the left part of the name like sessionstore-1.js .
    See http://kb.mozillazine.org/Session_Restore
You can (temporarily) set the pref [http://kb.mozillazine.org/browser.sessionstore.max_tabs_undo browser.sessionstore.max_tabs_undo] to ''0'' to clear the ''Recently Closed Tabs'' list.
Use the ''Reset'' context menu item to re-enable ''Undo Closed Tabs'' with the default value if you want to re-use that feature.
You can clear "Recently Closed Windows" if you restore a window and open a blank tab (Ctrl T) and close all other tabs with a middle click.
If you close the window with only that empty tab then that window is removed from the list.
To avoid that make sure that you close all tabs before closing a window.
Set the pref '''browser.tabs.closeWindowWithLastTab''' to ''false'' on the about:config page to prevent closing the last tab from closing the browser.

  • Where is the 'History Recently Closed Tabs' menu in Firefox 29

There used to be a 'Recently Closed Tabs' in the old orange Firefox 28 menu. Now it seems version 29 only has a 'Restore Closed Tabs' menu item in its 'History menu'. There seems to be no option to restore individually closed tabs. I'm always closing a tab by accident, and the old method was very fast and easy.
Another person asked about this, but it seems his only solution was the 'Undo Closed Tabs Button' Add-On:
    https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/997285?esab=a&as=aaq
In the old menu, you had access to your recent history, 'Clear Recent History', 'Restore Previous Session', 'Recently Closed Tabs', and 'Recently Closed Windows' in one easy to access spot. Now all that is buried, or doesn't seem to exist anymore.
Is there any way to re-configure the new menu to include at least the 'Recently Closed Tab's menu again?

You can click History in the 3-bar Firefox menu button on the Navigation Toolbar to see the sections for recently closed tabs and recently closed windows.
You can also unhide the menu bar and open the History menu.
*Press the F10 key or tap the Alt key to bring up the hidden Menu bar.

  • When Firefox crashes, tabs aren't saved, and Recently Closed Tabs/Windows are grayed-out

Although I had "Show My Windows and Tabs from Last Time" set in Options, my tabs aren't being restored after a crash. I also had my Home Page set to my Yahoo Mail page upon opening a new session. I then changed my Home Page to a blank page, but that hasn't worked to restore my open tabs after a crash. To make matters worse, under History,Recently Closed Tabs and Recently Closed Windows stay gray, so I can't restore the open tabs from there, either.

Make sure that you not run Firefox in [[Private Browsing]] mode.
In Private Browsing mode some menu items are disabled (grayed) and some features like visited links and others are disabled and not working.
You are in Private Browsing mode if you see "Tools > Stop Private Browsing".
    See [[Private Browsing]] and http://kb.mozillazine.org/Issues_related_to_Private_Browsing
You enter Private Browsing mode if you select: Tools > Options > Privacy > History: Firefox will: "Never Remember History"
To see all History settings, choose: Tools > Options > Privacy, choose the setting '''Firefox will: Use custom settings for history'''
UnCheck: [[ ] "Automatically start Firefox in a private browsing session"

  • When I go into my mail and select the sent item tab it boots be out. Without letting me view my sent email

When I go into my mail and select the sent item tab it boots be out. Without letting me view my sent email

Another easy thing to try is to quit the mail app completely and restart the iPad.
Go to the home screen first by tapping the home button. Double tap the home button and the task bar will appear with all of your recent/open apps displayed at the bottom. Tap and hold down on any app icon until it begins to wiggle. Tap the minus sign in the upper left corner of the app that you want to close. Tap the home button or anywhere above the task bar. Restart the iPad.
Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.
Did you send an email with a large attachment by any chance?

  • Customise the Recent Items submenu?

Yes, I realise you can choose how many items you want displayed in these menus. But I'd like to go further. I'd like to list the documents first and I'd like to see them in order of when I opened them last, as most applications list them. I don't suppose this is possible just with the options in the Finder.
So is there an app that will allow me to do that? Or failing that, a hack using Terminal? I want loads of items in the menu but I don't want to have to wait for the most useful part of it to load and scrolling down to it past all the applications, which have easier methods of quick retrieval.
In the old days of OS9 I used to put links to the recent items folders, arranged by date modified, into popup folder tabs at the bottom of my screen. It was incredibly useful. I'm still waiting for something similar, fourteen years later!

I was looking at this again, a couple of hours ago and could not find a direct way, but tried the following and it worked:
Open "User Preferences" and set the # of Recent Items to 1 ( a 0 setting is not possible ).
This will leave the last item used in the list. Click any item in your new project to overwrite the last item. Slug or Bars will do if you haven't started importing yet. Reset # of Recent items to whatever you usually use.
Yes, it is convoluted and a simple "Clear Recent Items" button would do the job. But it's all we have for now. Maybe in the next version.

  • Change description of the Excise item tab in MIGO

    Hi,
We have upgraded R3 4.7 to ECC 6.0 now we required in MIGO transaction Excise Item tab Indicator for Material type we need to change the description of this as RAW MATERIAL to INPUT MATERIAL and Consumable to Capital Goods which is in R3 4.7
    Please suggest me any config.
    Thanks
    Shital D

    Hi,
The above material type showing in MIGO screen, as you already declared the material under which material category in J1ID & so then value flowing.
You can not change here  &  you have few options to declared the material under which material categories.
You can keep all raw material as raw material & Consumable as asset.
But if your business needed very much, Just have a discuss with ABAPer for your requirement.
