"Recent items"

Hi I'm looking for a portlet to list recently added or changed items in a page group.
Does anyone know where I can find a portlet like that?
I know there is a "Recent objects" in the 9IAS portal, but I found that it cannot be altered to do what I'm looking for. :(
Any help or tips appreciated.

Hello,
The Windows Desktop Perfmon and Diagnostic tools forum is to discuss performance monitor (perfmon), resource monitor (resmon), and task manager, focusing on HOW-TO, Errors/Problems, and usage scenarios.
As the question is off topic here, I am moving it to the

  • Why is my "recent items" list not updating properly?

When I go under the Apple menu to "Recent Items," I find that sometimes it does not actually show the most recent documents I have been working on.  I just closed a Microsoft Word document that I've been editing and saving for the past two hours, and it doesn't appear in the list, yet a bunch of other items are documents I had open earlier today (and have since closed).  Excel spreadsheets randomly fail to appear sometimes, then appear other times.  What gives?

The solution - turn cookies back on in Safari.
I'm guessing here, but it seems likely that iTunes uses the same rendering engine as Safari, and perhaps it is also dependant on Safari's use or non-use of cookies.
What I know for sure is this - once I turned cookies back on in Safari, my list of Purchased items was populated, instead of being blank. So, hope this helps others.
(I didn't have to reload my library, or any of the other things that others have suggested.)

  • Getting "open recent" items and "open documents" from an application

How do I ask Textedit (if running) for the list of documents currently open?
How do I ask Textedit (if running ) for the list of "open recent" items?
    Thank you

Thank you. This does the job for "opened documents" in TextEdit and other applications. I wish there were a similar method for "open recent" items. Each application (TextEdit, BBEdit etc) seems to handle the "open recent" items in its own way!
    Thank you again.

  • Is there a way of displaying  the various item in my Downloads folder as icons arranged in order of Date Created, such that the most recent items appear at the bottom, rather than the top?

Is there a way of displaying  the various item in my Downloads folder as icons arranged in order of Date Created, such that the most recent items appear at the bottom, rather than the top? I know this can be done when they are displayed as a list, but I want icons!

    Hi geezer,
when you open your 'Downloads' folder choose 'View'  in the Menu bar and choose:
    'as List'
    'Show View Options'
In 'View options' window you tick:
    'Always open in list view'
    'Date Modified', or
    'Date created'
Now inside the 'Downloads' folder click on 'Date Created' (or 'Date Modified')
column to get items alined from oldest to newest date (or reverse)…

  • Recent items are missing when I do a four finger expose swipe or two finger tap on icon

    Hi,
I used to be able to do a four finger down swipe when in an app which would show any app windows open plus recent items underneath. I'm currently getting the windows showing but no recent items. This goes for any app. I haven't changed anything. I haven't cleared the list either. Any ideas?
    Thanks

    Hello Toraishikuru,
That feature you are describing is called Spaces. What the does is help you organize your workflow. For instance, my workflow is that have Safari in one space and then I have Mail in another so that they are not on top of each other. If you want to remove spaces that you are not using, then open Mission Control and you will see a section towards the top, move you mouse over one of them and click on the X that shows up in the right hand corner of that window. Take a look at the article below for more information.

  • How do I remove "Recent Items" Documents from the apple menu?

I've been searching for an answer to this question for the better part of 3 hours now.  W
Several iterations of osx ago, there was the ability to separately limit how many recent items were shown for Applications, Documents and Servers.  Over the years, I simply installed a newer version of osx on top, and surprisingly my recent items always eliminated the Documents from the list.
I've since done a clean install of mavericks after installing an SSD, and i've lost this small but important part of my work flow.  No matter what I've tried to remove the documents from Recent Items, it always shows up.  I can still boot into my old HDD (which is now installed as a supplementary drive and also updated and running mavericks 10.9.2), and see from clicking on the Apple Menu > Recent Items that it only displays Applications and Servers.
Try as hard as I can, I can't simply figure out how to remove the documents from the recent items menu.  I've tried editing the com.apple.recentitems.plist file, to show 0 items for documnets, but this never seems to work.  (I've since read that this file is simply rewritten on logout.) Strangely, if I go into the old setup System Preferences, Recent Items:  it is showing as None.  I also suspect that maybe I used Tinker Tools or some other utility to change some command line preference (using the gui) several years back.  Not sure how I could investigate what would need to be done to compare files or otherwise figure out how to remove the documents section from the recent items menu.
It's starting to drive me crazy.  Anyone?

The Apple menu is at the top left hand corner of your screen, click on it and about this Mac is the first choice.
Click twice on Version to get serial number.

  • Is this normal to find Servers in "Recent Items"?

While I have been trying to save data on a crashed computer – the Desktop has disappeared and the Finder can't be found – I found something I have never noticed before.
On the menu at the top of the screen, when I click on "Recent Items" I find "Servers". Under "Servers", I find two blue colored drives called "Scan" and "SharedDocs".
I am doing file sharing at the moment but I don't use the names "Scan" or "SharedDocs".
Before my Desktop disappeared and the hard drive got corrupted, I wasn't doing any file sharing. All I was doing was backing up my computer. The backup failed though because the external drive got disconnected from the computer when the lid of the Macbook Air suddenly opened to 180 degrees (the hinge is broken).
I restarted the computer and attempted to backup the computer again but that failed and then the hard drive filled up all of a sudden. I did Disk Repair using the installation disc but that was when the Desktop and Finder disappeared. This is to give some background to what happened. I don't think anyone is spying on me but I don't remember seeing the Servers before under "Recent Items". Maybe they have been there all along but I haven't noticed them.

If I can help set your mind at rest, this is normal. If you look in the Finder preferences (if you can find them -- see below) they are fourth in the list of items to show on the desktop, and I would guess that this may be related.
The names you are seeing my be partitions on the disks you have been connecting to.
It sounds as if you have major disk corruption and the fact that it filled up suddenly suggests the Finder was unable to report the data correctly. If you have the data off (backed up) then you will lose nothing by trying to erase and then reinstalling the OS. If there are any problems during that process, it would indicate a defective hard disk and replacement is the best option.

  • Lost Recent items list in FW

I successfully upgraded FW to 11.1.0.205 some time ago (when I upgraded  CS5 to CS5.5), but I've been experiencing a couple strange behaviors  ever since.  I'm on a pc using Vista.
    (1) FW  now requires admin permission whenever I launch it.  No other program in the suite does that.  It's an annoyance that I can live with, but would rather not have to click CONTINUE every time.  I tried setting the program to run as Administrator, but it made no difference.
    (2) The most annoying issue is that 'Open a Recent item' list is empty every time.  Oh it retains my list if i don't shut off my computer.  But if I do shut down my computer, FW's recent item list is empty at the next launch.  I used to use this feature a lot for picking up where I left off the day before.  Now I have to not only search for the document, but also seek the drive and folder since that information is not retained either.
Is there a solution to either of these problems?  Maybe they are related.
    Any thoughts would be appreciated.

AFAIK, it's the norm. Recent documents only displays ones previously opened, not their current status or whether they still exist.

  • Modify Recent Items list

I open a lot of torrent files that I really don't ever need to open again.
I was wondering if there was a way to prevent these items from cluttering up the Recent Items menu.
I've looked at the com.apple.recentitems.plst but it just seems to be a list.
Is there a way to exclude certain document types from showing up in the Recent Items menu - sort of like you might with spotlight or a smart folder?
    thanks.

AFAIK, it's the norm. Recent documents only displays ones previously opened, not their current status or whether they still exist.

  • Why recent items are not shown in notification center (only unchecked appear)?

    Hi guys,
in notification center (ios 5 iphone 4s) I am able to view only uncheck notification, as unread mail or tweet, events programmed for the next day and so on. It seems strange becouse in setting-->notification center--> you can choose:
1,5,10 unread message for mail and
1,5,10 recent items for other apps.
does anybody know how to make appear recent item in notification center? or should I suppouse that recent items mean unchecked items?
ps: and there's also no notification in notification center for facebook. did anybody fix it?

No, it does not add that reference.

  • Why does my "recent items" show recent applications in duplicate?

    Why does this happen?
Just applications show up in duplicate, not recent documents. All I can do is to clear the recent items list. I'm not sure when this development began, and I can't bring it on at will either.

I was revisiting this situation again and explored into one of the Links that "Limnos"
posted, namely, "X Lab Resetting Launch Services".
    Thanks-Limnos.
    It suggested:
    1. Use a third-party utility, such as Cocktail or Yasu, to rebuild or reset, respectively, the Launch Services database. Be sure to employ a version of the utility that is compatible with the version of Mac OS X you are using.
    OR
    2. Reset Launch Services manually: follow the steps in the order specified for the version of Mac OS X you are using.
I tried the easy way out.
I have had "Cocktail" for a long time (v. 4.4-current for Tiger 10.4.11) and let it rebuild the Launch Services database.
Then after a restart The problem seemed to be cured.
    Cleaned it all up nicely
    So far so good.
    No duplicates at all.
I was afraid I would have to re-associate everything in my system all over again, but no, it seems to be behaving nicely.
    I'll re-post if the problem re-occures , thanks.

  • My recent items list appears again after restart. How do I delete it for good?

When I turn on the computer, the recent items list still displays the documents and applications I worked with a few days ago. I delete it, and after restarting the computer, it displays the same list again (not a new list, but the exact same items over and over again).  Any tips?

Select the iPod shuffle in the iTunes sidebar (under DEVICES).  If this is a current 4th (or 3rd) gen iPod shuffle, you should be able to see the contents of the shuffle by type, intented under the shuffle's name (still in the sidebar).  Select Music or Audiobooks (not sure where those items from the library will be listed).  The items will be listed to the right, for each category.  Find the items, select, and delete.
It's on page 20 of the manual
    http://manuals.info.apple.com/en_US/iPod_shuffle_4thgen_User_Guide.pdf
NOTE:  If this is an 1st or 2nd gen iPod shuffle, select the iPod shuffle in the iTunes sidebar (under DEVICES).  Over to the right, go to the Contents tab, where the items are listed.  Select and delete them from this list.
I find it more convenient to make a playlist in iTunes with things I want to put on the shuffle.  I then set up automatic syncing (or use autofill) to have iTunes load the shuffle from that playlist, automatically.

  • WORD document not showing up in Apple Recent Items Documents

I work on a certain WORD document every day, maybe serveral times a day. I edit it each time, making numerous cuts, copies, pastes and saves. I remember when I first got the computer, it would show up in my Apple list of recent documents and as such was handy when I relaunched it every day. Now it isn't showing up there at all. WORD will be listed as a recent application but not the document itself. I have to access it by first launching WORD, not by clicking on it in the Apple menu as I did before. I have "Number of recent items" in the System Preferences set to 15 documents. I tried saving this document with another name to see if that would work. It didn't. Then I thought maybe there was a glitch in the particular WORD document so I opened a new one, typed a line, saved it, quit the program and then looked under the Apple menu. It was not there either. So, is this a problem with some kind of WORD preference setting or with my computer? I've recently repaired my permissions and verified my disk and there appear to be no problems.

OK, I may have resolved this but not in a way that I like. If I put the document in the "Documents" folder in my User folder then it shows up. But I prefer to organize my stuff in my own way, make my own folders and put them where I want to, as I did with system 9. Is this not possible on OSX? It's going to be a disorganized hodge-podge if I have to do it the way it seems to be set up to do - stuff is going to be all over the place and I will not feel in control over anything. What also doesn't make sense it that the Apple menu lists other items in recent "documents" that are not in the home user>documents folder at all. One is something from User>Sites and the other is the Appearance.prefPane.

  • Can "recent items" in the Finder be chronological, not alphabetical?

I'd like to display them chronologically (by last used) rather than alphabetically, since if you're looking for a recent item that would tend to be the way you'd look for it......isn't it?
Is there any way to do this?

I couldn't find a preference to control the order, so I think it is hard coded, but could be wrong.
