Recent Loss of Reception

Greetings! I am hoping that someone here will be able to help me with an issue that I am having. I moved into a new house over a year ago. Until about three or four weeks ago, I have not had a reception problem. Recently, I have been unable to send or receive calls or texts in my house. At first, I thought it was my phone. I had the system updated. My husband is also having the same issue, and we updated his phone's system as well. My family visited me this weekend, and they all experienced reception problems as well. I contacted Technical Support, and they sent representatives out to check the tower nearest to my house. The tech support representatives said there is nothing wrong with the tower. My husband did a bit of research and found the Network Extender for Verizon. When I looked at it tonight, I was floored by the price! I cannot imagine paying nearly $250 to rectify an issue I feel should be rectified by the company. I have been a loyal Verizon customer for over six years, and I do not want to switch providers. I absolutely love the services I am able to receive from Verizon at such awesome prices! However, I now feel as though I am merely forking over money each month while not receiving the services I am paying for. I'm a little frustrated! Will someone please offer me a bit of wisdom on this matter? I would greatly appreciate any help!

  • Loss of Reception/signal on 4S with iOS 6.1.1 update

    Since updating to iOs 6.1.1, I have noticed on my phone and my fiancee's phone there has been a loss of reception/signal. As I thought  this update fixes an issue that could impact cellular performance and reliability for iPhone 4S. But it looks as if it affected it to where I now no longer get all bars of signal as before the update my signal strength was excellent all bars lit up and receiving signal was excellent since the 6.1.1 update I no longer get a full signal, I get between 2 and 4 bars shown never 5 now since update. I think a fix update should be in order to correct the issue as before it was good now it is terrible. I know others also have been compaining about battery drain on iOS 6.1.1 but I have not seen that on mine or my fiancees phone just the signal strength does not go above 4 on either of our phones like as before they would sit at 5 in our house and anywhere we would travel. Has anybody else noticed that if so please let me know so I know I am not the only to see that since updating to iOS 6.1.1. Thanks and have a nice day.

    Hi again, today's journey to the Apple store was worthwhile. Not only did I get a replacement phone,  it was still under warranty, but also an explanation as to what may have caused the problem.
    According to the technician who assisted me, as the upgrade from IOS 5.- to 6.- is quite large, in the transfer of information upgrade, apparently the programming data for wifi and Bluetooth connectivity was lost, which apparently sometimes happens, this being described as a freak occurrence. According to the technician, if this occurs, it becomes a hardware fault and there is no repair, replacement is essentially the only option. Fortunately as I was within the warranty period, on the spot replacement was available, already with IOS 6.- on it, so was informed that the same problem would not occur.
    Upon arriving home, after a minor upgrade to 6.1.2 I was able to put everything back on to the phone so it ran like it did three or so weeks ago. The other advice given was to always hook up to iTunes via your computer to do the larger updates, those that increase in whole number, as those that increase incrementally are usually very minor and are usually an addition of data, not replacement.
    I hope this helps others with their problem, mine in the end was resolved within ten minutes in-store. I dread to think what situation I would have been left in if I was not within the warranty period. Good luck to you all!

It seems that lately when I deleted the videos, they're not removed from the phone's memmory.
    I check form setting/general/usage : all my apps add up to less than 2G. In itune, it shows all memmary is under the catagory "other". Is there any way I can access this "other" memmory to see what's in it and delete the things I don't want to regain the loss memmory?

    You could always try restoring, although maybe someone else on here has a better idea.
    Hopefully by posting this, it will bump up and someone with more iPhone troubleshooting experience might chime in.
    As for the videos - interesting! Do you have the iPhone on one of those window holders, or do you hold it in your hand since that might ironically distract you, unless you've gotten very good at it!

  • Recent loss of embedded QT movies on many page for IE7 using ActiveX object

    I have many pages that allow you to select from 4 video formats including QT .mov. An example is at http://www.cwdjr.net/video4/cancanL.php . The QT object uses ActiveX when on IE only(I use Windows conditional comments) and an ordinary object for most other browsers. Until sometime very recently all of these pages worked when you select the QT file. Now QT works on none of them. I suspected the problem might be due to a very recent Windows XP update which is a large one including .NET updates and other things(K8951847) X 86. I was able to restore to a day before this update, but this did not solve the problem. Of course some portions of some updates can not be removed be restoring to an earlier time, so the result does not prove the update was not at fault.
    The involved pages are mostly written in php on the server, so you will not be able to see very much by viewing the source code. To make the problem more simple to view, I made a test page for QT only and with the ActiveX object only. Thus this test page can not be viewed on most browsers that do not support ActiveX. The test page is at http://www.cwdjr.info/broadbandMedia/formatsAX/qtmovtest2.php . Since I serve pages as valid xhtml 1.1 using the correct mime type application xhtml+xml, no IE browser can view the page, since no IE browser can support xhtml served properly. Thus I have a php include at the very top for header exchange between the browser and server. If this says the page does not support the mime type for xhtml, then php using regular expressions, etc is used to rewrite the page as html 4.01 strict for the outmoded browser. Thus don't be surprised if you find some pages in xhtml and others in html when you check properties.
    The ActiveX object used for QT on the test page is below:

    Once the page comes up on IE7, it is rather slow to respond. Then it gives:
    "Web site wants to install the following ActiveX control: 'Quick Time' from 'Apple Inc'".
    If you do try to install, nothing happens. In contrast to my regular pages, I added the code show above just before the start of the object. Clicking this on will bring up the QT video, but of course it is not embedded on the desired page. This may work as a temporary fix for IE. I likely can hide it from other browsers by enclosing it in Microsoft conditional comments.
    I would be interested if anyone else has had such a problem recently or any ideas concerning this strange response on IE7. I am talking about viewing the page on the server. Since this is a php page it can be viewed locally only if you have a server installed on your computer and I do not. The pages with the first url example given above have operated well on IE7, Firefox, Opera, Safari for Windows, Flock, K-Meleon, Google Chrome and SeaMonkey. There are a few players that have some issues with some of the formats, but this and the fact that some players may not be installed is the reason for offering the video in 4 formats. I sometimes offer high broadband versions as well as low broadband versions.
    It seems I spend more time correcting IE issues than for all of the other mentioned browsers combined.

    Thanks for the reference. I use nearly no JS anymore, since it often causes problems with true xhtml served properly even when you use external script files. Often one can use php script on the server and avoid these problems. When one serves as true xhtml using the correct mime type of application/xhtml+xml, the page is parsed with a very strict xml parser rather than a loose-as-a-goose html parser. (If one serves a page written in xhtml code as mime text/html, as is incorrectly done perhaps 99% of the time, you are using only html, not xhtml, and are fooling only yourself. The page is parsed as html instead of xhtml.) The xml parser has to be very strict to account for any possible xml content. Even a single, or even several, errors often will not prevent a html page from showing, but even a single error on an xhtml page served properly will often get an error report from the xml parser rather than a view of the page. One of the most laughable examples of misunderstanding of this issue is the home page of Microsoft. It claims to be xhtml. However it is served as text/html and thus would be better written in html 4.01 in the first place. Moreover, if you validate the page as xhtml at w3c, you find hundreds of xhtml errors. If Microsoft served their home page properly as application/xhtml+xml it of course would not work on any IE browser, at least through IE7, since none of these IE browsers can handle true xhtml. In addition the page likely would not show up on any browser if served as true xhtml until all of the hundreds of xml and other errors on the page were corrected. Instead, one likely would get a very long error report rather than a view of the page.
    Back to JS, document.write will not work in properly served xhtml, because it easily could produce code with XML errors. For instance it might produce code that contains an unclosed tag, which is a major xml error that can cause an xml device to malfunction. The xml parser thus rightly finds document.write as an error and prevents viewing of the page. However one often can generate the same code as document.write would produce on a browser with php on the server. The finished code is what gets downloaded to the browser, so the xml parser can check everything in the finished code rather than quess what a JS document.write might produce. And don't think you can sweep document.write under the rug by using an external JS file. The very strict xml parser finds it.
    Of course embed has never been a w3c tag, but rather is a bad hangover from the browser war era, a gift of Netscape. No page that includes embed can validate as w3c xhtml or xml of any flavor, at least through xhtml 1.1. However the page may work, despite the error, if server as text/html.
    All I know is that something has happened recently that has caused my problem to surface. It likely has to do with some change in the XP OS or IE browser. I have tried viewing several pages written by others that use many types of code for .mov, and all of them I have viewed that use an ActiveX embed for the benefit of IE now have the problem I mentioned. If anyone else with XP and nearly all updates, including the very recent one I mentioned, and the most recent version of QT has had this problem, I could be more confident that the problem comes from an external source. If not, it is still possible the sudden change could be something concerning a specific issue that has developed in my computer.
    Again, thanks for the JS reference. Some of this likely can translate into php so I can compare how the JS and php server script I am using relate.

    i recenly purchased a new iphone,and had my information transfored from from the old iphone onto the new one. i have either lost,misplaced,or someone else has taken the iphone. the old phone was momentarily out of service, however i had activated the "find my phone" in the settings. i figure the battry has already ran down so if it were in the house i would still be unable to locate the phone.when logging into icloud to try and locate the phone all i can find is the new iphone i recently purchased. does anyone have a few suggestions i might try to locate this phone ,or am i S.O.L. ??????

    If the battery is dead the only way to find it is to physically look for it.

    for the last 3 weeks I have no signal in the house, it was fine before then. No problems when I was with Orange either but was advised to change to EE when I upgraded.

    Hi , Do you have absolutely no signal all day when at home? Or does it fluctuate? I'd take a look at the online coverage checker in the first instance.  Have you tried removing the SIM card and then reinserting it?   • Bumper is only an insulator preventing signal loss not a reception fixer

    Many get confused and start complaining about their reception when the bumper is mentioned, and that it doesn't help them.
    The bumper is only an insulator, as every other case, some better dielectrics than others.
    The bumper will NOT fix your reception problems if you have them. That's why some of those who go out and buy bumpers may not see improvement. Their signal will not change, but their reception will be the same.
    The bumper will help ONLY in cases where you have GOOD reception and then lose it as it gets degraded when holding the phone from the line or just plain pick it up and try to use it.
    Additionally, those who call for Apple to give out free bumpers should take the above into consideration, as they are not for everyone. Why?
    Because A) Many don't need them, and B) They won't help if AT&T or your carrier in your area isn't doing it for you. The bumper is not a signal/network amplifier/helper/fixer. It's just an insulator.
    There are some reporting issues and signal differences between a 3Gs and an iPhone 4 in the same area. I have seen that with my 4 and my 3Gs, occasionally, but for the most part they agree, and seem to work as expected for their particular specs. I mention this because there may still be something to fix there, for both, by Apple, and I have seen it mentioned here too. But, it has NOTHING to do with the bumper, and the bumper won't make a difference.
    Those are my thoughts. Perhaps they will help some get real answers and not fake hopes that their network problems will be fixed by an insulator. I am just trying to clarify the different areas that are being discussed and are currently being lumped together as one, because they aren't.
    Consumer Reports, btw, is ONLY talking about this issue in their recent tests, the signal drop without a bumper issue, not reception problems, not network problems, but the POTENTIAL of dropping a call or having network issues by holding the phone from the line. Nothing more than that! I have more to say on that but, again, I do not want to send mixed messages.

    Funny because she has noted on MANY other posts that she got a bumper and never touches the area where there is a problem, agreeing that there is an issue here, and then turns around and says "i don't need a bumper to use my phone."
    I think she believes that if you have a car whose steering wheel falls off when use your hands that is a non issue, as you can always use your feet. The fact that the OP points to a thread in which you can pretty much divide people into two categories.

    2. Are not having the issue but still sympathise that there is obviously a problem with reception due to touching bare skin to the antenna for some people out there which is rectified by getting a insulating piece of plastic.
    Which is what's funny, the OP started one thread, completely lost control of it because the OP is not willing to listen to any reason or sense towards those experiencing the problem so started a new topic hoping to be in control again.
    The problem is, the bumper does HELP reception, by stopping your conductive hand touching the metal antenna. The signal goes down when touching the metal antennas over the black divider, this is almost certainly because you are bridging the two antennas, as it can be caused by just a paperclip across the two, or the tip of your finger.
    Again, the bumper stops this shorting as it is plastic.
    AKA the bumper does prevent signal loss, which allows for BETTER reception.
    When you touch this point, signal goes down, and call quality drops (aka the reception is lowerd.) In case your still wondering, becuase we all know she will be, lets consult OXFORD.

  • E52 loosing reception like Iphone

    Hi all, 
    I recently changed my operator. The current one does not have very strong network at my house. Usually I have like 4-5 bars of network but the moment I pick up the phone/hold it in my hand, the network drops to one bar.
    The previous operator had a strong network so usually I had full 7 bars and on picking it up used to come down to ~2 so I didn't have any problem on voice calls.
    Anyone else got such a problem with this phone??
    I cannot replicate this problem with the same SIM in other phones.

    Hi, we have a few E52's and one E55 at work but they never behave like that. I remember I had such signal issues with the Samsung galaxy s. - This was a known issue with it, but it wasn't as bad as the iphone 4.
    Do you run it on 3g or GSM? It' should not really matter but try both and check the behavior.
    It could be a faulty antenna, and since the loss of reception is that marked, it looks like it.
    What you could try is to check if there are any updates for your device and try updating it, but I cannot remember seeing any of this problems with older fw versions on our E52/55's.

  • How do I back up music to external hard drive

    Hi!
    The recent loss of some music and the instablity of the iTunes program I have on my machine leads me to believe that I need to delete the program completely and then reinstall.
    Instead of goign through the motion os burning 500+ songs to CD's, I'd like to back-them up to an external hard drive.
    Is this possible? Will the crypto-license protection built in allow for something like that? If so, then how do I do it?
    Did I miss the instructions on the main page as I only saw instructions on how to back-up to CD's?

    plug in your external harddrive via usb or which ever way you connect yours then use the backup facility and it will ask you where you want to back up to then click on the respective drive letter for your external hard drive.
    alternativly you can open my computer double click on the external hard drive ( if only 1 internal hdd and 1 cd rom it should be the "e" drive ) and selct the itunes folder and right click then copy, cllick onto the external hdd and right click in the display window for your e drive and right click then paste it will then copy all the files to your external hdd

  • Mysterious deletion of account

    Having been using my appleId regularly over the last wee while, I went to load a new app yesterday to find my AppleId had been deleted. Not just made safe, but deleted - reason I know this is I was able to set up a new AppleId with the exact same details I had in the old account and as far as I understand it, that can't happen if the old ID has been 'put on hold'
    I'd really welcome an explanation as to how this happened as I assume now that my purchase history has gone too so if any apps need reloading, I'll have to pay twice.

  • Missing sent stuff .

    An inconsistent bother of some vaguely familiar genesis in the
    old Mail App . This reminds me of the recent loss's in the Sent Folder
    of posts containing attachments . The difference now is that instead of
    warning me that something cannot be saved it just gets sent and
    I must wait for a reply for verification and a copy if folks send a reply .
    This is my interest here , specifically , where can I track this sort of

    There are no records of the post I sent , so I am trying to find another
    way of tracking exactly what I have sent . There is no copy in the
    Sent Folder of the post having existed , which was occuring frequently
    with posts containing attachments , but only today manifesting with a
    straight text message . There was a warning however with the attachment
    posts declaring they would not be saved or could not be saved . So
    there was no surprise , I would make a Pages copy . I took your suggestion
    and refamiliarized myself with the Mail preferences and was not
    surprised to see things set to storage on the server . That covers most
    everything I can think of , aside from an idea of how to track the
    missing post . If it was sent it must be somewhere , that is where I want
    to look if I can . Thanks for your suggestion concerning the preferences
    . I would be most interested in discovering the trail of this post and
    understanding how it could be missing from the server thus my Sent
    Folder and still be received at my intended destination . I believe it will
    be received as the snafu with the attachment stuff was always received

  • High noise margins

    Hi all, (nearly) a first time poster and am having SERIOUS issues with BT Broadband.
    I was with Sky for ages but migrated to BT, I had consistant and steady speeds with Sky of 4.5 to 5.5 mb.
    I had a recent loss of connection (towards the end of my 10 day "settling" period) and the full connection went down soon after and 5 days later re-connected me, the line is noisy to the ear, BT have conducted tests and they say all is fine, I even hear the modem noise connecting if I'm on the phone.
    I've checked all sockets, am using the master(there is no test socket in my box, there is no "bell" line connected). I'm on the Hartlepool exchange so don;t know if that has been recently upgraded to the 21CN, if so would this cause any of my problems??
    I've have checked everything at my end that could cause excess noise, have removed phones, Sky+box etc.. and still a crappy connection, any ideas guys n gals?? Thanks

    when you say the line is noisy have you tried the quiet line test preferably with a corded phone in master socket - dial 17070 and option 2 - you should hear nothing
    your exchange has been upgraded to 21CN and you are currently on adsl2 with modulation of 992.3

  • Important-to-me question. Too paranoid to turn on my phone.

    Okay, this will sound weird, but someone very close to me passed away, and before it happened we had a phone conversation. It is on my recent calls list, nothing the length and time of the call. It is important to me that it remain there. I have been out of the country and didn't take my iPhone with me. It has been months since I've turned it on. I'm paranoid to do so now that I'm back, fearing the old recent calls list will be wiped out and replaced by the slew of new ones. I know I have received a lot of calls to this number in my absence and with my phone turned off. I've probably received new text messages, too (and there are a few old text messages I want to save). My questions are, if I turn on my phone now, will my old recent calls list be in jeopardy? And will the new texts wipe out the old ones?
    ETA: I've forgotten exactly which OS I have, but this iPhone is pretty old. I believe the OS is from late 2007 or early 2008.

    Well I am sorry to hear about your recent loss, but to answer your question, I don't know for sure. It is possible that it could be wiped, but not likely. From my experience, the list of recent calls and texts just grow and grow until you clean them up. Worst case, take out the SIM card, turn on the phone, open recent calls and take a screenshot to preserve that memory. To perform a screenshot, press the sleep/wake button on top of the phone and the home button at the same time. You will see the screen flash and it will save the pic into your photo library. The same thing applies to any text messages you may want to keep. Of course put the SIM card back in once you are done. Good luck.

  • Sync Issues - dimmed choices

    I want to manually manage the info on my Touch (gen 1) so I chose that option on the Summary page. I recently purchased an App I want to add to the Touch but that new App is not checked on the App page of the pod (all of the choices are dimmed) and I don't know how to add it any other way.
    How do I resolve?
    Note: Manual update only choice because recent loss of iMac data included homemade family videos that only reside on the Touch. Since these won't reverse restore to the iMac, it is my understanding that an auto Sync would erase those items forever.

    If you want to stick with "manually manage..." you could download and install directly to your Touch via WiFi. You will not be charged again for this.
    You may be able to retrieve your videos from your Touch by using some 3rd party application -
    [Touch Copy|http://www.wideanglesoftware.com/touchcopy/index.html] for example. Google for more options.
