Recent photos

Question

There's something weird going on with iPhoto '08 in regards to the recently imported photos. I just imported a set of photos called (an Event I guess) "Rice University Bike Ride". On the left hand side of the iPhoto window, under recent, it shows a "Rice", a film roll I imported in the old version of iPhoto about a year ago.
I had to change the name of my new "event" to something without Rice in it, otherwise the old film roll called Rice shows up as the most recently imported event.
Has anybody else noticed a similar issue or is it just me? Is there a fix, or is this a bug that I should report to Apple?

Check that event in the Photos mode with the Event name selected to be displayed like seen in this screenshot. It will display the date range of the photos in the event. Even though all might have been taken on the same day, one might have been edited or copied and the date being used might be the modified date. You can select all of the photos in one of those events and use the Batch Change option to change all the dates to the one you want. Select an appropriate time differential between the photos. I use 1 minute and don't apply it to the original files. That will put that event with just one date and in the right sort order.

TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it.
