Recent System Update ate my wireless?

I just got done with the recent system update to 10.3.9 on my PowerBook G4 550. Since the update I've been:
-Unable to connect iTunes (7.0.2) to my Airport Express. I can connect to the wireless network on occasion (see below) but iTunes even after I restart iTunes while connected to the network.
-While trying to connect to my wireless network (Airport Express) my menu bar freezes. The Airport icon is painted blue and will nor respond. When this happens my time freezes as well. It's now been like this for 8 hours. If I go into System Utilities->Network->Airport the system freezes as well.
I anyone else having a similar problem with the recent update?

After the update my G3 iBook can not see the Airport card. I am still troubleshooting and in fact was hear looking for a solution. If I find a fix I will post it.
Okay I repaired permissions and did a restart and now the Airport shows in the profile and I can connect via Airport. I don't know if it was the permission repair, the restart, or the combination of the two, but I will have to hold on buying a MacBook a little longer.

  • Why after a recent systems update, I can't copy text from the internet (every web page) and paste into word?

    MacBook Pro Community,
I need help. After a recent systems update this week, I can not longer copy and paste text from the internet. I have never had this problem before. I have searched through systems preference and google'ed it. Please help!!
    Thank you!

A book is a lot of work and in the end needs to not only be openable, printable, but also be laid out with facing pages amongst other numerous desirable features.
None of which suggest Pages 5 to me.
If you want to persist in Pages 5.5 you will have to laboriously cut and paste the content into one file and hope that will still be usable when you are finished.
Or you could export to Pages '09 or pdf format and assemble it there.

  • Problems with recent system update

All my problems started with the most recent software update. I did the most recent set of updates which required a restart. After restart, I noticed that it was taking a REALLY long time to load up, so I left it over night and came back in the morning. I thought "hmmm 10 hours, maybe it'll take 16", so I went to work. Came home, still hanging at the gray Apple startup screen. Finally, I called Apple and they told me to force shut down, unplug for 15 seconds and retry. Followed these instructions, still got the little logo. Finally the gentleman tells me to force shutdown, and reset the pram (CommandOption+PR). This REALLY screwed things up as now I am stuck at a blank screen with NO Apple logo. I have tried every keyboard shortcut imaginable, to no avail. Anybody else had this problem? "Guess you have to take it to an Apple genius" is the final response of my phone call. Well, 4 hours to the nearest Apple store isn't something I want to do. Also, considering all was well before the System Update, paying for shipping/repair is also not something that I want to swallow. Any suggestions would be great.

OK you did a SMC reset and then seperatly did a PRAM reset. Now try doing them in this sequence and your system should start OK.
    1. Turn off your iMac and unplug everything from it for 30 seconds.
    2. Plug in the power cord, keyboard and mouse only.
    3. Press the power button and immediately hold down the Option, Command, P & R keys until you hear the second gong then release the keys. Your machine will start up normally, then check for the issues you are having.

  • I used to move an e-mail from my account to a local folder by click and drag which nio longer works after recent system updates but the move to does work.

I'm using Thunderbird (a very good product) on an 8.1 system. I recently performed Microsoft updates and disk maintenance. I no longer can move an e-mail from my Thunderbird account to a local folder using "click and drag". I can't find a solution. The "move to" works just fine.
    Thanks for any help. Jim.

  • After recent system updates iPod Crashes G5

I could not us iPod Updater on that mac since it crashed it every time I would plug into dock. I plugged into my G3 laptop and was able to do reset to factory default, so now when I plug into G5, even though system profiler sees it, it does not go to the do no disconnect mode and nothing sees it. No desktop icon and it does not show up in itunes.

UPDATE /. Last night after getting it to be "seen" by the update program plugging into USB, it still won't connect to itunes or the desktop, and now will not shut off when taken out of the dock/.

  • Battery wont charge after recent system update

My bluetooth device errored and I had to download the drivers again so thought I'd update my system at the same time with some of the latest Lenovo updates - Terrible mistake!
Lenov have changed their power management so that it "may not support batteries that are not genuine Lenovo-made or authorised"  .  What they mean is we're gonna screw you over!
My compatible extended life battery that I've happily used for over 6 months now does not now charge and I use my laptop for business and often on the go so battery is imperative.
My laptop is out of Lenovo warranty so I am utterly disgusted they are trying to force me to pay nearly £200 (which I dont have) for their own batteries when it should be totally my choice. It's monopolisation surely!   It's not that I have bought a non compatible battery that doesn't work, its the change in software through upgrade that they have forced this upon me and I am seething to say the least.
Is it possible to go back a version of power manangement (I presume it's power management software) so that i can live happily ever after?
This is an urgent problem for me so please, anyone?
    Richard

The warning in the power manager have said so for ages, and doesn't mean that your charger won't charge third-party batteries. It just means that Lenovo doesn't take responsibility for third-party batteries, and can't guarantee that charging will work with third-party batteries.
If it suddenly doesn't charge at all, there's probably something else wrong - it's not the power manager update.

  • No connection to home wireless after system update

I'm on OS-X Leopard 10.5.2. After a recently system update last week I can no longer connect to my home wireless network. There have been no other changes made to either the firmware on the ADSL modem or on my MacBook Pro apart from the system update. The odd thing is the airport in the MBP picks up all the other wireless networks in the area apart from my own. My wife also have a MBP and her laptop picks up the home network without any probs (she hasn't applied the same system updates yet - she's on an older generation 12" MBP with IBM CPU). I've rebooted my MBP in safe mode and then rebooted normally. Suddenly everything was OK and I was on my network but when I opened Firefox no traffic was shifting in or out. Page requests timed out and then suddenly I lost all wireless connection. Back to square one. Any advice on how to get around this?
    Regards,
    Kaustav

The first thing to check in this situation is to make sure you are running the most up to date firmware available from your router manufacturer on your router.
Several people with similar issues have updated their router firmware and found it to fix their problems; others have not.
Regardless, it's worth a try and is a good troubleshooting step.

What follows is guesswork on my part...
That 1157 error code translates to:
One of the library files needed to run this application cannot be found.
On the TVSU 5.06 page (here) under software requrements I see:
Microsoft .NET Framework version 1.1 with Service pack 1 or Microsoft .NET Framework version 2.0 is required for System Update to work Correctly. Use Microsoft Windows Update to ensure that Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 or 2.0 is installed on your system.

  • [solved] Pulseaudio doesn't detect sound card after system update

Before a recent system update I had pulseaudio working flawlessly, but after doing a recent system update with pacman -Syu,
pulseaudio no longer sees my sound card and only displays the Dummy audio device.  Among the packages updated that I can
remember off the top of my head are the Linux keneral, udev, kmod, instead of trying to roll back my system I figured I would try
to fix the issue.  The only thing suggested in the Pulseaudio wiki is that a asound.conf directory is overriding the /etc/asound.conf
file which is not the case on my system.
Looking at the output from lsmod I can see where the kernel modules for the sound card is getting loaded
    snd_hda_intel 23375 0
    snd_hda_codec 89160 3 snd_hda_intel,snd_hda_codec_realtek,snd_hda_codec_hdmi

    snd_page_alloc 7153 2 snd_pcm,snd_hda_intel

and looking at the output from the ps command I can see that pulseaudio is getting started
    1190 ? S<l 0:00 /usr/bin/pulseaudio --start
    1195 ? S 0:00 \_ /usr/lib/pulse/gconf-helper

Digging into this further aplay -L gives different output based off of whether or not I ran is as my normal user or with sudo/as root.
As a user (which is how pulseaudio is also being ran):
    > aplay -L
    null
Discard all samples (playback) or generate zero samples (capture)
    pulse

as root it does see both my sound cards when I run it with sudo or as root:
    > sudo aplay -L
    Password:
    null
Discard all samples (playback) or generate zero samples (capture)

Installed most recent system update on a perfectly stable, happy Mac. Since then, any apple app- (mail, safari, update, address book so far) will launch and then immediately quit. I am also getting a "subpubagent unexpectedly quit" pop-up which has never happened before on this machine. Firefox, word etc. all seem fine. Any ideas?

Restore your bootable backup/clone containing your OS before updating. Don't have one? Tsk, tsk. In that case, see http://www.thexlab.com/faqs/multipleappsquit.html

I am having Macbook Pro, I have recently tried updating my operating system to OS Yosemite, but after that its giving problem in connecting to Wifi. The error is "Connection Time out Occurred". Its getting connected by Ethernet cable.

Take each of the following steps that you haven't already tried, until the problem is resolved. Some of these steps are only possible if you have control over the wireless router.
    Step 1
Turn Wi-Fi off and back on.
    Step 2
Restart the router and the computer. Many problems are solved that way.
    Step 3
Change the name of the wireless network, if applicable, to eliminate any characters other than letters and digits. You do that on your router via its web page, if it's not an Apple device, or via AirPort Utility, if it is an Apple device.
    Step 4
    Run the Network Diagnostics assistant.
    Step 5
In OS X 10.8.4 or later, run Wireless Diagnostics and fix the issues listed in the Summary, if any.
    Step 6
Back up all data before proceeding.
Launch the Keychain Access application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Keychain Access in the icon grid.
Enter the name of your wireless network in the search box. You should have one or more "AirPort network password" items with that name. Make a note of the name and password, then delete all the items. Quit Keychain Access. Turn Wi-Fi off and then back on. Reconnect to the network.
    Step 7
You may need to change other settings on the router. See the guidelines linked below:
Recommended settings for Wi-Fi routers and access points
    Potential sources of interference
    Step 8
Make a note of all your settings for Wi-Fi in the Network preference pane, then delete the connection from the connection list and recreate it with the same settings. You do this by clicking the plus-sign icon below the connection list, and selecting Wi-Fi as the interface in the sheet that opens. Select Join other network from the Network Name menu, then select your network. Enter the password when prompted and save it in the keychain.
    Step 9
Reset the System Management Controller (SMC).

  • Wireless connection not working after installed newest Lenovo ThinkVantage System Update programs

    Hi, everyone!
I've installed some newest programs through Lenovo ThinkVantage System Update and just after that my wireless connection has stopped working. Here are the installed programs:
    ThinkPad UltraNav Driver for Windows 32-bit version 15.0.24.0;
    ThinkPad Power Management Driver version 1.60;
    ThinkPad Modem Adapter version 7.80.8.0;

Lenovo ThinkVantage Toolbox (32-bit) version 6.0.5514.61.
    I've got a Lenovo T61 with Windows XP SP3.
Also in Device Manager, there are now the two "Other devices" bellow with a yellow question point and a yellow exclamation point by side:
    Bluetooth Hands-free Audio;
    Bluetooth LAN Access Server Driver.
Does anyone have any idea what can be done to have these issues solved?
P.S.: when I click Fn+F5 it shows only the Bluetooth Radio.

    Hello and welcome,
I've seen something like this on XP machines after updates a couple of times now - my T61, a friend's T400, and his daughter's T61.  I guess that makes 3
_Maybe_  your situation is the same.
The fix in all 3 cases was to go to device manager and uninstall the wifi driver.  Then scan for hardware changes and let it reinstall the driver.  Something about how Access Connections or some other networking mangement thingy was hooking the drivers I guess.
On both of the friend's machines, the wired networking was also b0rked.  Same fix there.
