Recent Updates Broke iMovie

I have a number of newer Quad G5s in my facility that I keep updated. For some reason I can't get iMovie to run anymore. I get the unexpectedly quits error whenever I open it. I've narrowed down the cause to a recent batch of Software Updates. One of the following caused the problem:
Quicktime 7.2
iTunes 7.3.1
Security update 2007-006 1.0
Mac OS X Update 10.4.10
Security Update (Quictime 7.1.6) 1.0
I know this because it was working on my last computer until I ran the software update. No matter what I try, I cannot get iMovie to run.
I've tried trashing everything to do with iMovie and reinstalling the program, but no luck.
I've deleted preferences time and time again.
I've tried manually reinstalling Quicktime 7.2 and iMove 6.0.3. This problem has happend on all 4 of my G5s so its not a hardware problem. In a related issue iDVD does that same thing but continues running even though the error comes up. Please assist.

After some research I didn't get very far. The problem also affected iphoto as well, I didn't know this at first because I don't usually use iphoto. I went through the machine and deleted pretty much everything that had to do with the iLife Suite.
I deleted the receipts, preference, and the applications (iphoto, imovie, garageband, and iDVD). I reinstalled the iLife apps and then ran the updates again. They all seem to be working okay now, but I just don't know what caused the original problem.

Recent update broke GNOME Shell drawing?

Hi.
I'm recently working on a theme for GNOME Shell, and in the "popup-menu-item" class I used a style like this: "box-shadow: inset 0 1px 0 #86d1f2;"
It was all good before, but after I update my system yesterday the inset box-shadow property seems to be broken.
With "0 1px [something greater than 0]" it works just fine,
but if I do what I did above, going with "0 1px 0", the shadow (which should've been only 1 pixel high) would cover the whole button.
Not sure if it's just me or it really is a bug.
And I don't know much about all those packages, but I suspect it's gtk or cairo that cause the change.
Please tell me what you think and where and how I can properly report this. Thanks!

Is it something Nvidia-related? No, I don't think so. I'm running on ATI.
But I don't think it's a graphical glitch caused by driver or something like that anyway.
Must be the Shell or whatever it is it's using to draw.
A few thoughts:
1. If someone can check this for me, apply a random third-party theme, and add "box-shadow: inset 0 1px 0 red;" in the ".popup-menu-item" block, ALT-F2 "rt"
then check if it's a red line or covers the whole item.
2. Assume it's caused by, say, Cairo, can I downgrade to an earlier version easily with pacman or yaourt? That way I might be able to find the problem.

I just want to burn my imovie project to a dvd. I have a macbook pro with retina display, the most recent update of imovie and mountain lion.

I can't seem to figure out how to burn my imovie to a dvd. I have an external optical superdrive and blank dvds. Is there a way to do it without downloading lots of other apps/software? I bought a macbook instead of pc because I wanted the video/photo editing, I'll be disappointed if there isn't a convinent way to turn them into a hard copy dvd to share with family and friends.

FAIL2BAN .... Broken by recent update [SOLVED]

A recent update broke fail2ban. I installed the "community-testing" version and fail2ban is back up and running on my system.

The daemon won't start since it is missing the /var/run/fail2ban dir.
My solution:

haha, so now i'm thinking. I'm learning the terminal as fast as i can but there are several lines of codes and commands in there that throws up red flags to me that i don't fully understand. It just looks fishy too me. It would be highly appreciated if someone could just check this out just to tell me that i don't need to worry about it. Or point me in the right direction. Burning IMovie slideshow to a disc - still possible after recent update?

Greetings, I've used IMovie to put stil photos and some video into an IMovie slideshow. Previously, I'd used IDVD to burn the slideshow to a DVD, but since the recent update to Mavericks, IDVD is apparently no longer supported by Apple. Question: How does one now burn their IMovie slideshows to a DVD? Also, with friends in Australia and New Zealand (where PAL is the format) to whom I'd like to share the DVD, is PAL format possible? In iDVD 1-3, there was good quality up to 60 minutes, fair quality from 61 minutes to 90 minutes. Starting in iDVD 4, you could get movies up to 120 minutes, but the quality degrades with increased running time, starting at about 70 minutes. The quality at 120 mins is still better than the old version's 61-90 minute projects.
To get two movies on the same DVD, start by preparing the first movie the normal way. Then drag the second movie's small .mov file into the iDVD window. You will now get another button for the second movie. Be sure to select "Best Quality" in iDVD first.

Delete both apps using this utility > Download AppCleaner for Mac - Uninstall your apps easily. MacUpdate.com
That will delete the apps and all associated files.
Then re download the apps. That will download the most recent version updates included.
How to re download apps from the Mac App Store:
Open the App Store. From the menu bar click Store > Sign In
Click Purchases from the top of the App Store window.
Select which apps you want to re download. Then right or control click where you see Installed then click Install.
Make sure and use the same Apple ID used for the original purchase.

System crash after recent update

Hi all,
As of yesterday, my laptop has started crashing after a little while open (sometimes right away, sometimes ten minutes in, sometimes right after bios). I believed it was to do with the recent alsa-utils update and I downgraded that package which helped for a little bit. When it updated again and the core dump from the previous update disappeared, I upgraded and the problem starting happening again. Then I downgraded and no change.
So I think it is not to do with alsa anymore...but I can find no information at all in dmesg or journalctl. There seem to be no errors, warnings whatsoever. I have tried chrooting in and looking at all the logs but to no avail.
The update that broke my system installed the following:
alsa-lib alsa-utils gcc-libs gcc isl kmod libcdio-paranoia pyalpm namcap
I have since downgraded both isl and kmod and it looks my laptop is running okay so far. After this update I also updated the kernel, but running from the fallback initramfs did not change the issue so I don't think it was that either.
I have trawled the forums for recent problems with recent updates .ut did not find anything apart from the alsactl core dump.
Does anyone know if there are any problems with the above packages? Or if there are other important logs other than journactl, dmesg, and pacman.log I can try looking at to troubleshoot this? I apologise for not being able to provide much more information, as I said I can't seem to find anything out of the ordinary in the aforementioned logs.
Any help would be appreciated.

I cannot install updates for iMovie, or iPhoto. It keeps telling me "You have updates for available for other accounts. To update this application sign into the account you used to purchase it." The thing is, I am logged into the only Apple ID account that I have.
What do I need to do to fix this?

No I did not. These apps came with the MacBook Pro I recently purchased. I merely logged into the AppStore and checked for updates. Updates for iMovie and iPhoto both showed up and I clicked on update all and I got the message "You have updates for available for other accounts. To update this application sign into the account you used to purchase it."

Compiler errors with most recent update

I just ran the SoftwareUpdate utility and it installed QuickTime 7.1 and Apple Security Update 2006-003. Now when I compile, I get the following errors:

This error used to be "[blahblahblah] referenced from Quicktime epected to be defined in ApplicationServices" not QuartzCore. I looked at /System/Library/Frameworks/QuartzCore.framework/Versions/A/QuartzCore and sure enough, it has a modifcation date of today.
The previous error was caused what appears to be QuickTime 7.0.4 being developed/compiled on Tiger and then distributed to Panther users like myself via Software Update.
I can't figure out whether the QuickTime update or the Security Update changed my QuartzCore, but I'm having trouble figuring out a solution to this problem.
Find a copy of the old QuartzCore framework? Figure out some way to add a dummy library that will define these symbols? Make sure Apple developers compile stuff on Panther when delivering code for Panther? I had to downgrade from Quicktime 7.0.4 to 7.0.1 to compile, which broke my iTunes 6.0.4. Now that won't even help, because the Quicktime 7.0.1 downgrade package doesn't contain QuartzCore.

I can't compile anymore after the recent update on PowerMac G5 1.8GHz.
It still works on iBook G4 1GHz.

Shuffle icon from most recent update rendered next to useless !!

I love my 64g touch very much. I do construction work & it is vital to the work day. Well since the most recent update which i downloaded & installed like 2 weeks ago the "shuffle" icon is a choice between either shuffle or repeat 1 song over & over for eternity. Before the it was a choice between loop album (?)(which is what i need to get again), loop 1 song, or shuffle. Before this most recent update i was able to click a very small icon that sat above the displayed album cover & set "shuffle" to my liking by clicking the icon, NOW I CANNOT !! Now i get 1 of 2 settings, either the repeat 1 song for eternity setting (which has got to be the most useless setting ever) or the completely random shuffle of which i have no control or desire to use. I SIMPLY WANT TO LOOP THE ENTIRE ALBUM THAT I AM LISTENING TO LIKE I USED TO BE ABLE TO DO JUST 2 WEEKS AGO (but then my 2 year old son messed with my ipod & i lost the setting that i liked))!!

Ok, just to help anyone else who might face tis situation:
I was wrong!! The blue or white loop selection icon is still there. Take your iPod & hold it so the longer side is standing up vertically, get it so that you can see an album cover while a song is playing, underneath the second counter on the left side of the screen there will be a loop (either white or blue), tap it. This will give you one of 3 settings, here are there descriptions:
Full Blue Loop: Continuous loop of current album or playlist
Full Blue Loop with a small 1: Loop 1 song
White Loop: Loop is now off.
I hope this helps someone out there !! I broke down & went to the apple store & got help, i couldnt find the answer here (or so i thought lol!!).

Problem with recent update (1.6.0_19-b04)

Since the recent update to the Java installation (yesterday morning), my application started having problems when trying to unmarshall (JAXB) a XML file I'm using, and now I get the following exception:
tried to access class com.sun.xml.internal.bind.v2.runtime.reflect.opt.Const from class pt.global.parser.nodes.ContratoType$JaxbAccessorF_valorInicialContrato

The application works normally if I use the 1.6.0_03 version. Can someone give me an hint on what the problem might be?

It also broke my application which is using JAXB
The way JAXB behaved before is if you for example have a field of type int, and an invalid int value in input file, JAXB would invoke a setter with a value of 0, and now it will throw an exception it would of course stop processing of whole file.
Interestingly, with type of Integer, old behavior if still kept - (setter is invoked with a null value in case of invalid input)

[solved] updates broke gnome

i know this is a stupid and noobish title, but i really couldn't think of a better one.
after a recent update, lots of things broke, and i'm not even sure if they're related to one thing or just issues of their own.
1, after the upgrade, i couldn't log in with slim (i use the inittab method). i tried going to runlevel 3 and starting slim as a daemon, same effect. right after logging in, the hard drive stops and i only have a cursor. tried starting gdm as a daemon, same thing. the funny thing is that i can start gnome with 'startx'.
2, gnome-panel says the clock applet is broken, but i've seen topics on that.
3, nm-applet asks for a password (probably because i started the session with 'startx'), but upon entering it, the dialog freezes.
i only have one response: wtf?! i'm not a complete noob, but i really can't do anything about this.. is anyone getting these problems? is there a fix/workaround?
