Recent Updates reset my Mac back to defaults (Intel iMac)

On Wednesday (01 Mar) I did ran System Update and installed all updates for my 17" Intel Duo iMac, all appeared to go fine.
I'm not sure what happened today. First of all Safari crashed and I had to do a force quit. After that I ran Front Row for the first since the updates, watched a MPG movie (which took forever to load) and an iPhoto slideshow. Once I exited FrontRow my system was restored to its defaults.
All my iCal data was gone, all my widgets had gone and only the defaults were show. My dock had reverted back to defaults, the menu bar clock and location of icons were reset. Bluetooth was turned on again, when I started iTunes it did the whole you never used this application before and than went and searched my HDD for music.
I'm not sure what went on, my personal files were not deleted I don't think anyway, and all Safari bookmarks were maintained but the tabs and homepage were set back to defaults. I'm currently getting my Mac back to the way I like it. But something very wrong happened and it's a glitch which must be associated with the recent software update. I only got the Mac on Monday so the only software I have installed is what came with it.
Did anyone else experience similar problems?

Hi, I recently updated my IOS and backed up on itunes. In the process I lost all my apps on my phone. If I use the back up option on itunes, will it restore my iphone to my old IOS? Please help!

If it's in recovery mode, the data is already gone. Why did you never back up your important data?

  • I purchased Lightroom on my old Macbook but recently updated to a Mac with Retina display for editing my photos. I don't want to purchase Lightroom again and want to keep my catalog I have been using. Is there a way to access it on my new computer?

I purchased Lightroom on my old Macbook but recently updated to a Mac with Retina display. How do I access Lightroom on my new computer without purchasing it again?

If you created a new Apple ID, you have to purchase the app again. If you can still use the old ID, then you can download it again for free by using that ID. But you will run the risk of locking yourself out of your new Apple ID for 90 days by downloading the app with your old ID and associating the iPad with the old ID.
Is the risk of locking yourself out of your new Apple ID worth not having to pay $.99 again for an app?

  • How to: Resetting install location back to "Default Location..." (Windows 8)

I recently upgraded my PC and added an SSD as my primary drive. Like most people, I also have a secondary drive for most apps and files. In the Creative Cloud App manager, I changed the Installation location to a directory on my secondary drive. The problem was, Some applications I wanted on my SSD for performance reasons and there was no way to change back to the setting "Default location..." Because CC installs both a 32 bit and 64 bit version of some applications, I wanted to make sure that it put them in the correct "Program Files" or "Program Files (x86)" folders. After some poking about in the config files I finally found out how to do it.
(NOTE: The path below is for Windows 8 and possibly Windows 7, for other OS's it will likely be in a similiar path)
Close the Adobe Creative Cloud app (File > Quit)
Open this file in notepad: C:\Users\ExampleUser\AppData\Local\Adobe\OOBE\com.adobe.accc.apps.....prefs
Search through the text untill you find the install location that you set. Mine was "E:\Program Files\"
Delete only that path (leave the <) and then save the file.
Relaunch the Adobe Creative Cloud app
Then check the Install Location in Preferences. It should now be set back to "Default Location..."

For Mac OS X (Yosemite) I found you need to do the following:
    1. Quit the Creative Cloud Application in the title bar.
    2. Open Activity Monitor, find the Process named "Adobe Desktop Service". Click the stop sign icon with an "x" in it and select Quit to stop this process.
    3. Edit the file ~/Library/Application Support/Adobe/OOBE/com.adobe.accc.apps.....prefs
       a. Same as in the Windows case, find the line with "installLocation" and delete everything containing a file path between the following ">" and "<"
    4. Restart Adobe Creative Cloud from /Applications/Adobe Creative Cloud/Adobe Creative Cloud

  • Unable to reset 831 router back to default settings

I need help with setting up my cisco 831 sdm k9 router. It was up running just fine but I ran the write-erase command to start over, little did I know that resting back to complete factory defaults did not work. The router did not go back to as if it where when I recieved it and plugged it in and followed the steps with using SDM.
Does anyone know how to set it back up so that I can configure it?
I have gone through the steps as listed at in the (reset to for mainline 12.3) to reset the router back to factory defaults and still no luck. All I need is to get the router reset back to how it was right out of the box so I can re-configure it.

  • Most recent imac firmware update resets operating system back to snow leopard

I bought this computer when Lion was just coming out, so it still had the snow leopard OS. I have upgraded to Lion OS and updated all my software. This evening I get notice of a firmware update and iPhoto 9.2.1. I just did the install, and my computer is back to Snow Leopard 10.6.8. Just tried the Lion recovery disk I made on a USB not too long ago and that does not launch, and my Time Machine backup is showing the state it was before I upgraded to Lion.
Do I have to do everything over again? App store is showing that I have a Lion 10.7.2 available update.

OK I think I figured out what happened. Before I did do the lion OS update I had partitioned my hard drive, so that I still had a small section for snow leopard. I think the firmware update lost the fact that I had my startup disk set as the Lion one and set me back into the snow leopard one. I just booted into the Lion section and everything is still there, so no data lost.
Now that I have done with using snow leopard, I might as well departition the hard drive, and maybe this won't happen again.

  • Reset printer config back to default, want to reuse ePrint email address

    Hello,
I have an HP LaserJet 200 ColorMFP 276nw that I had associated to an ePrint email address.  I forgot what I set the Admin password to, so I had to reset the printer to default settings (turned printer off, pressed and held on the lower-left part of the touch screen, turned printer on until it read "Permanent storage init.").
Once that was done, I re-installed web services and added ePrint back to the printer.  Now I'm trying to use the same ePrint address that the printer had before, and I keep getting told that the address is already taken.
Is there a way to keep that address, or do I have to use a new one?
    Thanks,
    Michael

    Hello Michael,
Thank you for joining the HP Support community.  I understand that you had to reset your Laserjet 200 and during the process lost your ePrint email address.
That ePrint email address will not become available again, you will need to use/create a new one. I'm sorry if this has caused any inconvenience.

  • HT4528 Is there any way to get rid of the recent iphone upgrade and revert back to default settings? Since upgrading I have experienced nothing but problems with Siri.

Since selecting the prompt to upgrade my iphone4s, I have experienced significant problems.  The "old" Siri disappeared and the new one is slow, ineffective and unavailable much too frequently.  The faded colors on my iphone screen are also troublesome.  I wish that I could revert back to the default settings
on my iphone4s.  Has anyone else experienced the above problems?

Apple does not support downgrading to a previous iOS.
You might first try a reboot:
press and hold the home and power buttons until the Apple icon is displayed, then let go.
    If it doesn't help,  try
    Settings>General>Reset>Reset all Settiings.

  • Reset Order By back to default

When the user logs into the application, if he/she reorders her report by a specific field then exits, the application saves the new order by. When he/she logs back in, the report shows the previous order by rather than the system default. I would like it so that the order by always defaults back to what I specified.
Also, is there a way to get multiple order by's? (Like in sql, we can order by 1,2,3...)
    Thanks,
    Yvette

The multiple order by you can get only if you hardcode it in the SQL.

  • After resetting my MAC to factory default how do I reinstall my Creative Suite 5?

Yes. You have to erase the device in Settings>General>Reset>Erase all content and settings.

  • Just tried to install the recent updates and now Mac won't boot.

Clicked restart and was presented with a screen that said "none of the software updates could be installed, an unexpexected error occured" I clicked OK, was was left wi a blank screen that did nothing. So I powered down, and restarted, now I'm presented with a UnIx screen indicating "unable to find driver for this platform" and a window instructing me to restart.
Restarting in any mode, shift, command, command s, etc will not move me past the Mac OS version not yet set screen.
This is a mess. I installed Lion over the Internet and do not have a startup disk I can use to recover and reinstall to even restore from my Tme Capsule ... Isn't there a way I can install over the Internet?

Holding down Option seemed to get me into recovery mode, where I was able to run disk first aid, to repair the disk and permissions.
It repaired dozens of permissions, and stated the HD was OK, but restored boot drivers.
However, I still cannot startup, getting the exact same message.
At this point should I restore from my Time Capsule, or should I reinstall Lion and then restore from my Time Capsule?
Or is there any other way to recover at this point?

  • How to reset report output back to default language.

    Hello Everyone,
    I am working on 11i to R12 up-gradation process.
I need to move some reports from 11i to R12 and resolve bugs which report faces after shifting.
I am working on one report of output type : PDF named 'Delivery Note Report' in SCM-Order Management,
It is a RDF with template report and not XML publisher(there is no separate RTF).
RDF template is prepared with English text.
In 11i report output comes in EN-US(Standard English) language
whereas in R12 it is coming in Kenyan language.
I need to set output language to default EN-US, how can I proceed ?
    Thanks
    Sudbun

    Hello Experts,
I checked user preferences : it is set to EN-US
I checked concurrent program language details : it is American English
I got to know about a file named : uifont.ali (present in middle tier /ora/R12/apps/tech_st/10.1.2/guicommon/tk/admin)
it contains PDF:subset section in it we can specify the particular language/font in which we want output of our report.
I tried replacing this section with default language and restarted report server, even I tried removing that file from middle tier(just for testing purpose).
Can anyone suggest any other approach as still the issue exist.
    Kindly reply.
    Regards
    sudbun

  • I want to reset new mac to factory default

I am having major printing problems, regardless of the printer when I try to print a single page it prints non stop.
Not sure if there is a corrupt file somewhere, I deleted all printer drivers and downloaded new ones and the issue persists

Sure if you don't have any data on the drive that you want to keep or if you have a Time Machine backup of it what you want to do is fairly simple.
    2 ways.
    1) Use the built in Recovery HD partition, hold down Command+r at startup, and erase the Macintosh HD partition with Disk Utility then Reinstall Mac OS X.
    2) Use the Online Internet Recovery system, hold down the Command+Option/Alt+r keys at startup until you see a Spinning globe in the center of the screen, and then Repartition the drive as One Partition usiing Disk Utility and then Reinstall Mac OS X.
Option 2 will download whatever version of OS X Originally came on that system and then if you have upgrade to a newer version you would need to do that again. So if your Mac came with Lion option 2 would reinstall Lion. If it came with Mt Lion it would install that.
Option 1 will reinstall the current version of OS X that was installed before you erased the drive.

  • I recently updated my iPad and backed it up, then deleted photos to make space for more now when I try to take photos it says "time elapsed" what does this mean and how do I fix it?

I Have an issue with taking photos my iPad mini 2 keeps saying "time elapsed" what's does this mean and how do I fix?

You are using PPPoE but there is no server to authenticate against.. or the modem is already connected and nothing else can join.
    Is this ADSL?
Do you have the modem in bridge?
How does it work with the modem working as router? ie what type of connection does your ISP supply.. eg PPPoE is only one.. PPPoA is another.. IPoA or ETHoA.. and sever other more specialised.. PPPoE can only work where it is supported.
