Recent upgrade removed my ability to set aspect ratio with LG TV remote
With the upgrade a few days ago, I lost the ability to "Zoom" the aspect ratio on 4:3 programming so that it fills the screen, using the LG TV remote. I don't want to stretch it; I want to zoom it, and I don't care that I lose the top and bottom of the picture. I could do this before; how do I get it back? I have the FIOS settings on 1080 HD, and have the "stretch" turned off. I have an LG plasma.

Try using the # button on the FiOS TV remote instead.

Help with setting aspect ratio
Could someone please help me with an aspect ratio problem. I have just updated to iMovie 6 and want to work with an existing movie project created from iMovie (version before the ilife 5 version). On opening the project in the new version it is in widescreen and I would like to convert back to a regular format (regular display format) I would be most grateful for any help
ThankyouWell, I guess I thought the video in Motion needed to look more rectangle (16x9) than square (4:3). Since it did in FCP. And my FCP sequence setting>Aspect Ratio says NTSC DV 3:2
I am used to working with plain MiniDV 4:3. I shoot with Sony PD150. I don't understand or never had to deal with Aspect Ratios. This project they wanted a widescreen look so I switch the camera to 16x9.
I don't think it is the real 16x9 but like I said I don't know about this stuff or why my camera has 16x9 on in if it is not the real thing.
Feel free to comment, I am trying to learn -
How to fix an error in sequnece setting (aspect ratio)?
Hi,
I have been working for a while on a project in CS4. I have created a sequence in it with an aspect ratio (AR) of 4:3 - worked for hours on it - but I should had the sequence created instead in 16:9. I realised it a bit too late...
So how do I fix it?
Apparently amending the sequence setting for AR cannot be done - please let me know if there is any way of doing this.
Someone suggested editing the PRPROJ file of the project - but when I opened it I was unable to detect under the sequence name (I found a few entries with it) where I can easily change the sequence to 16:9.
So then I found people suggesting I copy/paste all the assets from the sequence into a new one that is correctly configured with 16:9. When I did this - CTRL+A and Copy, then paste into a new sequence in the same project - it copied all the clips and I think also all the transitions. But the key element that it did not copy over were all the changes I have done to the sound - I have been editing via the sound mixer (in Write mode) the sound, and then also made changes to the master track volume levels. These were not copied over.
I really don't want to have to do the mixing all over again. If someone can explain how I can fix the problem in any way I would be most thankful.
While I am here asking - another 2 small questions that have been bugging me:
How I can copy and paste volume keyframes from either the master track or a clip and apply it on another clip/section of the clip that would be very helpful. This would for example be useful if I am able to find a certain volume level that I would like to apply to the desired section without the need to sit and "record" (using the Write function) those settings on the desired area. If there is any means to apply the properties on audio track this way - that would be really useful and time saving.
A best practice hint: when you try and create a sound level for a project - what PC volume level setting do you set in your PC that you use as a benchmark by which we then work out the sound level that would be created in the project? Obviously if I push my PC volume al the way up I would probably mix my sound in the project too low. And if I set the PC volume too low - than I would probably be setting the overall sound level too high and get distortion. As the movies I created would be burnt onto a DVD - what is the volume level on the PC (if there is any means of establishing a standard volume) that I need to match first before I go and figure out what level of sound the finished DVD would have? Of course I can work on say a 50% and then apply gains and volume increases based on that 50% of the max sound my PC plays out. But that sounds pretty much like a random setting and not optimised for other devices.
My system:
Windows 7, 32-bit
CS4, v. 4.2.1
This looks like a fairly basic question but I am unable to find a good answer to it...
Many thanks to the person who shows me how this can be done without me going crazy over the need to start all over again...
Eroka00Hi Ann,
Your tip saved me a lot of time indeed....!
So I created a new sequence, made sure it was 16:9, copy pasted all of the assets, but then had to do the following:
1. Copy/Paste Attributes for all the video clips (these do not transfer);
2. As you suggested used the whole of the old sequence as a nested sequence in the new one, eliminating the video altogether.
I still had a nagging issue that the project would not render or export well - but that turned out to be an issue with rendeiring large files (the video was an uncut clip of almost 10GB, andother of 6GB). Splicing these into 10 minute segments and rendering them separately did the trick.
It's ben amlong Xmas weekend and endless hours spendt on this project. Yaikes!
Thanks for the workaround idea! -
How to set aspect ratio options for Image Dialog
I have a requiment to create a new Aspect Ratio for image crop, besides the only default option of Free Crop
I understand that there was some path where you could set this up in CRX, prior to 5.5, but that path doesn't exist in 5.5. The path was /libs/cq/packaging/components/pack/definition/dialog/items/tabs/item s/tab3/cropConfig
I found this out from this forum question:http://forums.adobe.com/message/4575600#4575600
Where in CQ5.5 Can I set these aspect ratios? I've queried the entire CRX for nodes of similar names as in this path, but cannot find it anywhere.
Thanks guys!Hi,
I have the same problem using CQ 5.6.1. I want to extend the default Ratios:
I found out that this config is located under /libs/dam/gui/content/assets/crop/items/actionbarcontainer/items/default/items/aspectrati o/items.
My question is were and how can I put an extension to these predefined ratios if I don't want to edit them under the libs node.
Thanks, Andreas -
Setting Aspect Ratio when cropping to A3
Hey folks being new to Lightroom 5.6 I'm probably doing something stupid and I am sure there is an easy solution; I just don't know what it is..
I have 23 RAW images in my LR Catalogue that I wish to crop, but I also know that I will be saving them as A3 JPGS at 300ppi. So the first thing I did was go into the Print module and select my Canon Pixma Pro printer so that I can then select a paper size of A3. In the print module, each image then displays A3 on the left hand side of the main preview window. So good job, that bit is successful.
So now I need to crop the images. I had previously tried cropping them to A4 and therefore had typed 8.27x11.69 into the Custom Aspect Ratio setting (yes I know we're talking inches here.... LOL). Well I then reset all the images so that their Aspect Ratio is set to "As Shot" and when I select done, the little crop box in the previews along the bottom of the screen disappears.... Still with me? Oh I hope so
So now the images are back to their original size as if they were straight off the camera, I selected all 23 images and pressed 'R' to enter the crop function. Under the Aspect Ratio, I selected "Enter Custom" and tried entering both 297x420 (mm) and also 11.7x16.5 (inches). On entering each of these ratios, whenever I select <OK>, the Ratio always reverts back to 8.27x11.69, as in A4, which was a custom ratio in the first place!!!!
Any help on how I can set the Ratio correctly for A3 so that i can actually start doing some cropping would be greatly appreciated.
Many thanks....
LewisSean what a wombat!!!! (Me that is, not you..... LOL)
Of course, A3 is two sheets of A4, That would explain why Lightroom kept showing 8.27x11.69.
Many thanks for answering what is really common sense when one thinks about it. Sorry to have wasted peoples time, but thanks once again.

Crash when setting aspect ratio
Consistent and reproducible error when I try to enter custom aspect ratio for crop in the Develop module.
I enter 297x210 (yes, I'm European and print to A4, A3 and such) and hit Enter or push the OK button.
Program crashes. End of story.
I'm at a PC ([email protected] and 12GB RAM, ASUS WS Professional MB) and run Windows 7 Ultimate. No instability. I do have CS5 design standard installed and Lightroom 3.6 as well (I have never understood why I should even consider using Bridge).
Thank you for sorting that one out before it launches.
Best regards,
Espen RosenquistSame for me: LR 4 beta crashes every time i try to set a custom crop ratio.

Wrong aspect ratio with ProRes capture
Capturing tape from a panasonic DVX100A shot 24pAdvanced squeeze. When I capture with the DV/DVCPRO codec (using the anamorphic setting) the footage comes in the correct aspect ratio in the project, and the quicktme clip in the finder is the correct aspect ratio also (16:9). However if I capture with the same NTSC anamorphic setting in the ProRes 422 codec, the clip is the correct aspect ratio in the project, but the quicktime file in the finder still has a squeezed look. I understand that the ProRes codec is much better quality, but it is very inconvenient to have all the quicktime files the wrong aspect ratio. This footage will be shared among many projects, and it could be a problem going forward. Any way to get the ProRes codec to create the quicktime file with the correct aspect ratio?
Thanks. For anyone following the thread, I found this forum from Ken Stone, with a couple folks (including Ken) saying that the DVCPro codec is basically indistiguishable from ProRes. So I will be using that codec on these tapes.
"Before ProRes came alomg, many people transcoded to DVCPRO HD (and DVCPRO 50), from Interframe, long GOP formats and other formats as well. DVCPRO HD is 4:2:2, Intra frame with a bandwidth of 100 Mbits, excellent. The only difference between DVCPRO HD and ProRes is that ProRes is 10 bit and DVCPRO HD is 8 bit, but ProRes has a higher bandwidth of 144 and 220 Mbits (HQ).
Now we have ProRes which is an excellent alternative for HDV and XDCAM EX, etc. Everytime we transcode to a different codec we do lose something, so I would think that because these two formats are so very close I would stay in DVCPRO HD and not 'lose' any quality by transcoding to ProRes.
For me, FCP has always loved DVCPRO HD and runs it like a dream.
My 2 cents.

Quality and aspect ratio with FCE and iPhoto
Project started by importing hundreds of slides shot by different cameras with difference settings. Slides were imported into i-photo where I used the slideshow function to make several segments. As I was choosing the photos and dragging them into slideshows I cropped them all into 16x9 ratio so they would all be uniform. I then sent to QuickTime movie using the built in iPhoto export button and selected “custom export” setting with DV/DVCPRO-NTSC compression with quality set to “Best” and aspect ratio to 16x9.
Then imported into FCE and did serious editing (music, effects, titles, etc.). When finished I tried exporting as both a QT self-contained movie and QT conversion (using DV/DVCPRO and 16:9) but the quality is terrible and when I make a iDVD the picture is squeezed and distorted into a 4:3 ratio despite the fact that the IDVD is set to 16:9. I have spent over a month on this project and have fellow travelers waiting for my “creative” touch. Can anyone tell me where I went wrong on both aspect ratio and quality? Thanks.
PS: Am using MacBook Pro, OS 10.7.4 FCE 4.0.1 and iPhoto-11 9.3.2Hi
I'm not shure - but I can share my thoughts
I tried exporting as both a QT self-contained movie and QT conversion (using DV/DVCPRO and 16:9)
I DO NEVER - Use Export as QuickTime CONVERSION
I DO - Share as QuickTime .mov - straight off
I had problems with 16x9 until I understood that
• I had to select type of project as WideScreen in FC
• Browser Window in FinalCut E and Pro - can extend far to the Right with several Columns. One Column states Anamorphic. When set my material to this. THEN introduced it into TimeLine. Can not be done in after hand.
• Export as above
• In iDVD there are TWO places to set 16x9
- When creating a NEW iDVD Project - SELECT --> WideSrceen
- In iDVD Project / Projectinfo [ Shift+cmd+I ]- ALSO set 16x9

How to preserve aspect ratio with a responsive layout?
Hi,
I have an image that I need to place in the centre of my stage.
The image is that of a ball and has 400px by 400px size.
I want my animations to be responsive so that the image will scale but still maintain the correct aspect ratio.
Currently if I set pixels to % on width and height, the image stretches.
How do you do this in EA?Hi Jahandaniel,
I have tested responsive layout and it worked perfectly. Please check the following adobe tv article and let me know your result.

Changing photo aspect ratio with QT 7 Pro
Can I use QT 7 Pro to change the aspect ratio of my iPhoto pictures so they can be used in HD video?
DavidI guess it would be easyier for me to purchase Graphic Converter to convert all my JPEGs to 16:9 ratio to be used in Final Cut Express.
Again, this depends on what you are looking for in an application. I personally have never used Graphic Converter. If, for instance, it is able to batch process your photos, then it might be worth purchasing if that is what you are primarily interested in. However, any graphic application can change the aspect ratio of your photos—including Preview which, I assume, is already installed on your system. In fact, I recommend you try this work flow with a few sample photos to be sure it is the aspect ratio you really want to change. (I.e., most cameras use a 4:3 or 3:2 aspect ratio and changing the aspect ratio for the frame will introduce a distortion to the photograph subjects.) The more normal approach is to crop the photos to the desired aspect ratio in iPhoto and export the customized photos from iPhoto or import the customized photos directly into the target application.
In any case, simply open one or more photos in Preview, select a photo, open the "Tools>Adjust Size" option, deselect the "Scale proportionately" option, and enter the desired HD dimensions.
Example... This
becomes this...
In this case making the subjects appear fatter than the actually are which usually does not go over well with the women in the picture. -
Changing Pixel Aspect Ratio with Aperture
i was wondering if aperture has a way of changing the pixel aspect ratio from square to DI/DV NTSC or HDV. so far i am using photoshop to do that but would love to do it inside aperture.
Not that I'm aware of. Pixels are pixels to Aperture. You could always crop your images to the right aspect ratio.
If you're looking to burn photos to DVD perhaps iDVD or DVD Studio Pro could resize your images to the proper size. -
Stretch Pixel Aspect Ratio with AME CS5?
I was given some videos that were in the wrong pixel aspect ratio. The videos are 4:3 and they were supposed to be 16:9.
Can I stretch the videos in AME? I tried to adjust the resolution, but when I hit the Output tab to preview the video, it gave me the same 4:3 video withblack bars on the sides.
(I also have Premiere Pro CS5, and if this could be done in Premiere, then I'm willing to do that. But I can't seem to be able to create a 16:9 sequence that is 320 X 180.)In Premiere, you can right click on your footage in the Project Bin. From the context menu, choose Modify then Interpret Footage. In that dialog box, you can tell it to conform the pixel aspect ratio to 16:9.

Correcting pixel aspect ratio with Publish settings
Same old, I know. I'm designing and producing a
Flash site using a Mac, but it will be viewed on a large
touchscreen (1366x768) driven by a PC. The vectors look fine when
going from the Mac 1.1 pixel aspect ratio to the Windows 1.0
display, but the photos look degraded and squashed vertically.
Could I fix with the Publish settings ... such as html- publish at
100% width, 99% height? I can't test easily because my pc's have
such fuzzy old displays, I can't see a thing. Flying blind. The
only time I see how awful it looks on a good PC display is when I
review the work to the client on the client's own PC...ouch.In Premiere, you can right click on your footage in the Project Bin. From the context menu, choose Modify then Interpret Footage. In that dialog box, you can tell it to conform the pixel aspect ratio to 16:9.

Aspect Ratio with Adobe Flash Acces
Hello,
We are experiencing some problems trying to play Adobe Flash Access protected content.
We have 1 video without protection (plain mp4), and another copy of exactly the same video, but with AFA protection.
The aspect ratio of the video is 21/9. If we play the 'plain mp4', the player adds letterbox, which is perfect. But if we try to play the AFA protected one, it doesn't add the letterbox and the image is distorted. Do you know how to fix this?
The player we're using is OSMF
RegardsHi Jordii84,
This sounds like something I've seen elsewhere, but I hadn't made the connection with Flash Access protection. I will have to take a look to see whether or not that could be the issue.
Let me know if you find a solution?
Thanks,

DVCPRO HD 720P: pixel aspect ratios with still images from Final Cut
I am currently trying to get still images from a trailer I am working on with Final cut pro. The footage is DVCPRO HD 720P 24pn and the interlacing and pixel aspect ratios have been giving me a lot of trouble in photoshop. I am able to convert the PAR but it is for preview purposes only...? I need the file to be saved with the converted PAR. How do you do that???
Also, the de-interlacing filter on photoshop doesn't seem to help the quality of the photo.
Anyone have any ideas?
I have searched and searched and only found somewhat related questions, so maybe I am the only one trying to do this...Why are you doing interlace if you have 720p?
