Recently added playlist doesn't reset or update

As the question asks ,
my recently added playlist never changes
cheers
matt

I'm also having the same problem. After I import new tracks into iTunes. They are not showing up in my Recently Added playlist. I checked the smart playlist settings and it is set to Live Updating. I have to quit iTunes and relaunch before the new tracks will show up. Clearly a bug. I've submitted a bug report on their feedback site.
It's not a problem with the settings of the smart playlist. I have never changed the settings of the playlist, and it only stopped updating with iTunes 10. And quitting and restarting makes the new tracks show up.

  • "Recently Played" playlist doesn't update on the iPod?

I know it used to work, on my old (3G?) iPod and some older firmware. Now it's broken.
All I want to be able to do is check my iPhone after a run, look on the device and see "what song played a couple of minutes ago?"
But the "Recently Played" playlist doesn't update on-the-fly like it used to. Instead, it's looking like I have to go back to my computer, and sync, in order to have the information sent back to the computer, and then the "Recently Played" playlist in iTunes shows what played on the iPod.
    But that stinks.
I want to see an accurate "Recently Played" on the iPod itself. Is that no longer possible? Is this a bug that we can hope Apple might address in the future... or is it a feature Apple's decided to abandon?

I've tried these workarounds but they don't seem to work (on any current iPod.)
Lots of discussion regarding Smart Playlist synching on the iPhone here:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1067876
...but none of the suggested workarounds seem to working for me.
There are two issues, it seems.
    1) synching the results of a smart playlist from iTunes to the iPod
    2) updating of smart playlists, on-the-fly, on the iPod itself
#1 is working for me. It's #2 I'm having no success with, and I'm wondering if Apple just abandoned the feature when it broke.
To reiterate. Leave the computer out of the equation for a moment. All I want is a "Recently Played" smart playlist that updates on-the-fly on the iPhone, no synching required. Is this not possible?
If not, that's a step backwards. It used to work on older iPods.

  • Recently Added Playlist Problems

through my own stupidity, i deleted the "Recently Added" playlist from itunes. i found this quite useful, particularly with the size of my itunes library and files not always being tagged properly.
any ideas on how to get that back? doesn't come back when i update itunes.....perhaps a complete uninstall/reinstall?
thanks in advance for any advice or ideas....

Reinstall not necessary. This is simply a smart playlist which you can re-build using the following criteria: "date added is in the last" & you pick the time frame, for example 2 weeks.

  • Messed up Recently Added playlist syncing!

Since I updated my iPhone 3G to 3.1 and iTunes to 9.0 I've noticed that my Recently Added playlist has not been syncing properly. It hasn't been updated on the iPhone since before I updated the software (iTunes + iPhone) even though I've since added more stuff to my library. The weird thing though is that the content that I've added recently does sync to my iPhone because I can find it if I search the phone but it just doesn't appear in the recently added playlist. The old stuff that does appear in my Recently Added playlist is now also in a mixed up order(not the way it appeared in iTunes).
Another thing I've noticed is that some (although not all) podcasts are also in a mixed up order on the iPhone; not ordered by episode number or date! Scrolling through my podcasts has also become slow and "sticky" if you well; not as smooth as it usually is, same for videos(scrolling through my songs or playlists however, is normal).
Have I missed something in the new syncing features in iTunes 9.0 or what's going on here? If I can't fix the problem would creating a new smart playlist with the same settings as the Recently Added playlist fix the problem..haven't tried that yet.
Thanks for any help or guidance!
    Sam

I have the exact same issue. Only, the order is correct, in reverse.
I get the 50 First added songs, instead of the 50 Last added songs... I wonder what went wrong and if Apple will resolve this matter. Did you try to call for support?

  • HT5731 I have an iPhone 4S and when I sync it, the "purchased" and "recently added" playlists do not show up on my phone.

I have an iPhone 4S and when I sync it, the "purchased" and "recently added" playlists do not show up on my phone. For some reason I can't get all the playlists I have set up in iTunes to show up on my phone.

  • I accidently deleted my "recently added" playlist. how do I get it back?

I'm very new to itunes and having trouble getting the hang of it.
I was trying to clean up some playlist files and was attempting to delete songs I didn't want or need. I hit shift-delete and all of sudden EVERYTHING disappeared. the songs I had purchased... stuff I had recently uploaded... everything.
I went to the recycle bin and hit "restore" in the hopes that things would come back, but no luck.
I was able to search my computer and get the songs I needed back, but it was quite frustrating. in addition, one of the things that disappeared that I wasn't able to retrieve was the "recently added" playlist, which was actually quite helpful to me.
I attempted to upload a new CD to see if it would recreate the "recently added" list, but no luck.
how do I get that back and make sure that future uploads are automatically saved to that playlist?
thanks in advance for any help.

In iTunes go to File>New Smart Playlist
    Recently Added:
Match the rule "Date Added">"is in the last">"1">"Days" make the days and the interval to suit yourself, you can have days, weeks or months.
    Check the box "Live Updating"

  • Imported CD does not show in Library, but it does show in Recently Added playlist

Imported a CD but it does not appear in the Library, althouhg it does show in the Recently Added playlist

I seen a few references to things like this in the forum over the past couple of months but no real solutions.  Maybe it's a small bug affecting a few lucky people, but obviously not widespread or we'd see tons of posts.
I suggest using the right+click reveal in Finder command to reveal the actual files. Delete the entries in iTunes without deleting the actual files, then add the files again by dragging them to iTunes.  Let us know if this works because I'm sure others would like to know.
If it doesn't work, I wonder if there is some characteristic like somethng in the labels that is causing iTunes to not enter these in the library.
Another thing you could try first is restarting iTunes and see if it's just a matter of it not properly refreshing its listing.

  • How do I create a 'Recently added' playlist on the ipod that only adds the new songs that I add to my library?, How do I create a 'Recently added' playlist on the ipod that only adds the new songs that I add to my library?

I'm trying to recreate the 'Recently Added' playlist that featured in the old ipods (4th gen.?) where it stored the songs you've just added to the ipod and each time you plugged it in it would replace the songs in that list with the new ones you've just added. The 'Smart playlist' at the moment doesn't replace existing songs with new ones except by manual overide. Any help will be greatly appreciated!
    Thanks!

Best suggestion: Buy some external USB or Firewire drives. Move your Library to one, back it up to another. A lot more reliable than DVD, a lot less work and much more convenient. For a start, you don't have to break up the library...

  • "Recently added" playlist on iPod Touch problem

I don't know what happened but suddenly my recently added playlist on iPod Touch stopped sorting my songs as they were added (by date) they are all random now. It's pretty annoying since sometimes i just want to listen the the previously imported songs and it's impossible to find them.
Now, as for the recently added playlist on my iTunes, they appear sorted the way i like them.
Does anyone know how can I tell my iPod to sort my songs this way?
    Thanks

This is a known bug with the 3.1.x OS. As a workaround, either go into the playlist definition and un-check "Live Updating", or you can add some criteria that intentionally breaks Live Updating (e.g. add the criteria "Playlist Is Music", where "Music" is the general iTunes folder for music items).

  • I accidentally deleted my recently added playlist. How do i get it back?

I accidentally deleted my recently added playlist. How do i get it back?

The default playlists are just Smart Playlists and you can recreate them. In iTunes go to File>New Smart Playlist
    Recently Added:
Match the rule "Date Added">"is in the last">"1">"Days" make the days and the interval to suit yourself, you can have days, weeks or months.
Also check the box "Live Updating"

  • Someone Deleted my Recently Added Playlist, How do I get it back?

Someone else who was using my computer accidently deleted my recently added playlist. How do I get it back? I've already updated to the newest version of ITunes, but I still don't have it.

    File -> New smart playlist.
    Match rule;
Date added is in last 2 weeks (or whatever you want).

  • Lost my recently added playlist

hey yeah so i accidently deleted my whole "recently added playlist" how do i get it back??

    Welcome to Discussions Justina.
Simply create a new Smart Playlist with no rules, but with 'Limit to' set to a number of songs of your choice, and the 'selected by' option set to 'most recently added'. Make sure 'Live updating' is switched on.
You can create this type of playlist by selecting rules as well, but the above suggestion is one fairly simple way of doing it.

  • Deleted recently added playlist how do i add back to playlist and make destination playlist for imports

i deleted recently added playlist and want to add back, and make it destination for imported songs how do i do

    Howdy Mark,
The Recently Added playlist is a Smart Album that has specific settings to automatically add new content to that playlist. It can be recreated manually if accidentally deleted, you can use this article named Archived - iTunes: How to create a Smart Playlist found here http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1801.
Choose File > New Smart Playlist.
To have iTunes add songs that match specific criteria, make sure to select "Match the following rule," then make your selections from the pop-up menus.
For example, you might want iTunes to only add songs that are by a particular artist, or songs with at least a four-star rating.
To add additional matching criteria, click the Add + button.
Here are the parameters to use when you create the new Smart Album:
    1. Check the box that says Match the Following rule:
    2. Change the first set of criteria to Date Added, In the Last, 2, weeks.
    3. Add another line for criteria by clicking the + button
    4. The second set of criteria should be as follows. Media Kind, is not, podcast.
    5. Uncheck Limit To, and Match only checked items, and check Live Updating.
That when that is done you will have a new smart playlist that you can rename to Recently Added by double clicking the smart album name.
    All the very best,
    Sterling

  • I deleted my 'recently added' playlist.  Help!

I'm new to itunes. I have deleted my 'recently added' playlist. I thought I was deleting the content!
Can I get it back so that when I add new stuff it automatically goes into it?
    iMac g5   Mac OS X (10.4.1)

    Hi,
It's just a Smart Playlist, so make a new Smart Playlist called "Recently Added". Set the rule to "Date Added is in the last two weeks" and make sure both "Match the following rule" and "Live updating" are checked. That's the same as the default "Recently Added" playlist...
