Recently Bookmarked at bottom of List
I don't know what I did, but recently bookmarked is at the bottom of the bookmark page How do I get it back on top?
I tried the about: config and did that correctly..That must be for if the folder is gone..
Does anybody know how I can get recently bookmarked back on top??
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Do you mean that you have moved this folder to the bottom of the Bookmarks Menu list?
You can open the Bookmarks Manager (Library) and select the Bookmarks Menu folder in the left pane and drag or use Cut and Paste to move this folder to the top of the Bookmarks Menu folder or to the Bookmarks Toolbar folder if you want it to appear there.

I asked this question yesterday. The response was to update Firefox. I tried that but the update failed. So I downloaded and reinstalled Firefox. Still no "recently bookmarked" link in my list of bookmarks.

Until a recent update in Firefox, I could always save a new bookmark to the folder of my choice by using the drop down list in the gray box that comes up when I chose to bookmark a site. Now only a few of my folders - probably most recents - show up and I can't seem to access the whole list. I now have to go to "recently bookmarked" and drag the bookmark from there to the folder of choice. Any way to restore the ability to make it a one stop save to my folders like I used to? Thanks.
No, I see the three areas at the bottom of the Bookmark area that you refer to, but that also highlights an issue. When I want to save a story to my Reading List and click on Share then "Add to Reading List" then go back to look at what is stored in the Reading List, my recently-saved item is not there.
I looked thru the History tab and the Reading List tab and have been in the Bookmark tab. But even when I Save a Bookmark, that newly-saved Bookmark does not show up in the Bookmark area.
But then again, the next day (and actually just in the last half-hour) all of the functionality came back. When I look at the Bookmarks, suddenly, again, all of the Bookmarks that are on my Safari browser on my iMac are now there, and I can now Save a Bookmark.
It keeps coming in and out and that is what is driving me a little nuts.
Thanks. -

What happened to the drop down list that said recent bookmarks?
On Firefox to the right side of the page, there is a little star, and when you move your mouse on it, it
will say, bookmark this page. Next to the star is a little icon, that says show your bookmarks.
So, when I use to click on that icon, it would say most recent bookmarks, along with bookmarks toolbar, and unsorted
bookmarks. I would like to know what happened to the icon that said, most recent bookmarks, or recently added bookmarks.
I would appreciate any help in this matter.
Many thanks.
Enjoy your day!See:

On updating from FF3.5.10 (good :-) to FF3.6.6 (bad :-( ): No session-restore option; no menu drop-down "Recently bookmarked" list. (Sys=winXP sp3)
1. can a non-techy fix this? :-(
2. how do I recover to FF3.5.10? - I liked it very much ! - thanks to all at Mozilla :-)Make sure that you not run Firefox in [[Private Browsing]] mode.
In Private Browsing mode some menu items are disabled (grayed) and some features like visited links and others are disabled and not working.
You are in Private Browsing mode if you see "Tools > Stop Private Browsing".

sorry for the repeat but I forgot to add my os.

Just to be sure that you understand how it works:
* Clicking the star in the location bar will bookmark the page in the "Unsorted Bookmarks" folder and the star turns yellow (blue on Mac) to show that.
* The "Unsorted Bookmarks" folder shows in the sidebar and the Library, but not in the Bookmarks menu drop down list.
* Bookmarks > "Bookmark This Page" (Ctrl+D) will bookmark the page in the Bookmarks Menu folder (you need to confirm that).
* If the URL in the location bar is bookmarked (star at the right end is yellow/blue) then click the star or use the Bookmark > Bookmark This Page (Ctrl+D) menu entry to edit the properties of the bookmark (name, location) and move it to another folder or remove the bookmark.
* Click the star at the right end of the location bar once to bookmark the current site and click the highlighted star a second time to open the "Edit This Bookmark" window and move the bookmark to another folder or edit the name.
* Click the Remove button in the "Edit This Bookmark" window to remove a bookmark.
* Click the arrow at the far right of the Folder field in the "Edit This Bookmark" window to access the complete folder list. That full folder list also opens if you click the drop marker in the Folder field and select the "Choose" item. That window also has a button to create a "New Folder" (look for a button with "New Folder" or a "+" under the folder list).
* Use the "Edit This Bookmark" window to locate a bookmarked link (bookmarks have a yellow/blue star) from the location bar drop down list. Do that in Offline mode ("File > Work Offline") to avoid the link from opening.

You should change firefox, or at least have a warning box when deleting "recently bookmarked". I decided to clear that folder out, and then when I went to use a bookmark.. I didn't have any bookmarks in ANY FOLDER at all. I did manage to restore the booksmarks, but easier to just warm people, or just let them clear out the recently bookmarked. It had bookmarks from over a year ago that I had deleted in other folders, but still manage to hang out in the "recently bookmarked" folder. Oh, and if I delete a bookmark in a folder, please have it delete the bookmark in the "recently bookmarked" also.

== Cleaning up my bookmarks"Recently Bookmarked" is a so called [[Smart Bookmarks folders|Smart Bookmark]] that shows the result of a place query in a list.
"Most Visited" and "Recently Bookmarked" are examples of the so called [[Smart Bookmarks folders]] and are not real existing folders.
Such smart folders show a list created by a query of the places.sqlite database that stores the bookmarks and the history in Firefox 3.
The bookmarks that show up in such smart folder listing are stored elsewhere in another folder and any changes made are applied to the real bookmark or history item.
Such lists show a maximum of 10 entries by default and you add a new bookmark or visit a website then a new item is added at the top and the entry at the bottom disappears from that list.
The items that are removed from the list are not gone, but merely do not show up anymore in that list.
Any actions like copy & paste or delete that you perform on bookmarks in such a list are done on the original bookmark.
If you do not want a specific list then remove that query (right-click: Delete), but do not delete the content that is displayed in such a list. -
Trying to delete bookmarks in recently bookmarked
I'm trying to delete the bookmarks in the "Recently Bookmark" folder without deleting said bookmarks from the folders that I moved them to.

This folder was not one I created, but it appeared to be a part of the bookmark area. It save all recently saved book marks and was called "Recently Bookmarked". I used this feature last night and this morning when I went to use fire fox, it is gone.
I tried restarting Firefox and it still has not fixed the problem. My question is, How do I get this feature back or how do I create a folder where everything I book mark goes into the folder until I can sort the book marks into the proper folders? thank you for your helpSee:

Bookmarks save only in 'recently bookmarked' folder & can not be moved to other folders
I can no longer save bookmarks to a designated folder - they go only to 'recently bookmarked' folder and can not to moved to other folders- when attempting to move them to another folder, they appear in the designated folder list but when I return to the main browser page, they are not listed. They are still in the 'recently bookmarked folder' only. I have attempted to save bookmarks many times since, with no success.
Those bookmarks should be located in one of the root folders.

How to increase the limit of 5 recently bookmarked folders
Hi, I saw this issue was raised several times over many years, but no solution as yet. When one adds a bookmark, firefox shows a very useful menu of the most recently added folders in the bookmark tree. It shows the last 5, but it would be wildly more useful if it could be tweaked to show 10 or 20.
Its not an about:config option due to a design decision by Mozilla, as far as I found out. And none of the bookmark addons do exactly that. There is a patch here,
"Makes the number of recent bookmarks folder to be an about:config option. "
https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/attachment.cgi?id=571412&action=edit
from the thread:

But I don't know how can I use this piece of code? does it require recompliation of Firefox? I use Version 27 on Windows 7, 64 Bit. Will this mean I will have to recompile and re-integrate the fix every time I upgrade FF? thanksThank you, but it doesn't seem to work - I don't see any faint arrows and the expanded bookmark window that comes with this addon still only shows 5 most recently added folders (attached immage to clarify - I want a larger list of recently added folders, not an expanded bookmark tree)

When I click the star to bookmark a site it goes into the recently bookmarked area of the library. I then drag or cut or copy and past it into a folder I already have in the bookmark library, but it doesn't disappear from the recently bookmarked. If I delete it from the recent, it also gets deleted from the folder in the library.
What can I do to keep it in the folder but remove it from recently bookmarked? No, currently there is not a way to do this.

I asked about automatic backup of bookmarks and received the following answer:You can make Firefox 3 create an automatic HTML backup (bookmarks.html) when you exit Firefox if you set the pref [http://kb.mozillazine.org/browser.bookmarks.autoExportHTML browser.bookmarks.autoExportHTML] to true on the about:config page. That backup is created by default in the profile folder as bookmarks.html, but you can set the file name and path via the pref [http://kb.mozillazine.org/browser.bookmarks.file browser.bookmarks.file] on the about:config page. I went to about:config page and toggled browser.bookmarks.autoExportHTML to “Yes” and it’s working. However, I want to change the file location, but I can’t find browser.bookmarks.file in the list.
The browser.bookmarks.file preference does not exist by default. Right-click in about:config and select "New > String" to create it.
