Recently downloaded new ITunes.  Can't get my 3rd generation iPod shuffle to load songs in order.  Help????

Recently downloaded new iTunes.  Now I can't get my 3rd generation iPod shuffle to load songs in order.  Never had trouble with the old iTunes format.

I love the new version of Grid view but some of the other changes feel like they still need some fine tuning. And I miss cover flow even if I didn't use it that often...
You can restore much of the look & feel of the previous version with these shortcuts:
Ctrl-B to turn on the menu bar.
Ctrl-S to turn on the sidebar (your device should be listed here as before).
Ctrl-/ to turn on the status bar.
Click the magnifying glass top right and untick Search Entire Library to restore the old search behaviour.
Use View > Hide <Media Kind> in the cloud or Edit > Preferences > Store and untick Show iTunes in the cloud purchases to hide the cloud items. The second method eliminates the cloud status column (but perhaps it does more)
If you want to roll back to iTunes 10.7 first download a copy of the 32 bit installer or 64 bit installer as appropriate, uninstall iTunes and suppporting software, i.e. Apple Application Support & Apple Mobile Device Support. Reboot. Restore the pre-upgrade version of your library database as per the diagram below, then install iTunes 10.7.
See iTunes Folder Watch for a tool to scan the media folder and catch up with any changes made since the backup file was created.

  • Can I connect my 3rd generation iPod shuffle to external speakers

Can I connect my 3rd generation IPod shuffle to external speakers? When I plug it into an external speaker, it stops playing and I don't hear any music. The controls eg. Volume, play etc is on the earplug cord. Thanks

Not for more than 10% off the price of a new one. You're better off selling it to a third-party.

  • I can't get my 2nd gen. ipod shuffle to charge on my new computer.

I can't get my 2nd gen. ipod shuffle to charge on my new computer.  I can prompt itunes, sync, and add/delete songs, but not charge.  I've tried to restore but that didn't work.  Advice?

Without telling us what computer models and OS versions, as well as how you're trying to update, not much help can be given.  It has nothing to do with the number of computers you have.
This question should be posted in the iTunes forum, not the iPhone.

  • Just updated to itunes 10 and now I can't manually get podcasts to play in my music line up on my 3rd generation ipod shuffle

I just updated to Itunes 10 and now when I drag a podcast to play on my 3rd Generation Ipod Shuffle, the podcasts won't play as as part of the music list.  I know you must add the podcasts manually by dragging them and dropping.  I did do that.  I know that you can only use the Ipod in order not random.  So, it must be a problem with the new software?
    Thanks.

Do you have any better luck with that if you update to iTunes 10.6.1.7?
From the notes for the release:
iTunes 10.6.1 provides a number of improvements, including:
    • Fixes several issues that may cause iTunes to unexpectedly quit while playing videos, changing artwork size in Grid view and syncing photos to devices.
    • Addresses an issue where some iTunes interface elements are incorrectly described by VoiceOver and WindowEyes.
    • Fixes a problem where iTunes may become unresponsive while syncing iPod nano or iPod shuffle.
    • Resolves an ordering problem while browsing TV episodes in your iTunes library on Apple TV.

  • ITunes does not recognize my first generation iPod Shuffle

iTunes does not recognize my first generation iPod Shuffle (512MB).  Windows 7 sees the iPod as an empty external drive although the iPod has music on it.  The iPod plays the music fine.  iTunes does recognize a similar first generation iPod Shuffle.
What can be wrong with the iPod Shuffle?   How can I fix?
    Thanks,I

  • How can i use my 3rd Generation iPod as a portable harddrive for files...

now that i have a brand new 5th Generation 60Gig iPod, i want to use my old 3rd Generation iPod as a portable storage devise for files and whatever else. not for listening to music anymore. what do i have to do to make this so?
i can just go ahead and use the firewire cable that came with it right? and will i actually be able to upload files to it, and then download them again? like word documents and photo files or spreadsheet or whatever?
will it be cross platform then? meaning will i be able to take it to my friends pc (i use a mac) and download my resume or spreadsheet or whatever else to his machine (of course i would have to use the usb cable then).
know what i mean? i want to use this think like an external harddrive.
    please advise.
iBook and Macbook Pro   Mac OS X (10.3)   and OSX 10.4 on the MBP

i think ipods are generally set to enable disc mode, so you can use it as a storage device, by default (if yours isnt, plug your ipod in, and go into options to select enable disc mode). just connect the ipod with whatever cord it came with to your computer, then look into the m.. is it called "my harddrive" or "harddrive"? and you should see the ipod connected there on the left side of the window with "network" and "music" etc. if you click on the ipod icon, you can drag and drop files into your ipod just as you would any other folder and use it as a harddrive.
the tricky thing is using it for both pc and mac. i think if its formatted for a pc, you can use it on both macs and pcs. but if you have it formatted for a mac, then only macs can read it.
so if you want to use it on your friends pc as well, format your ipod on a pc first so you can use it on both platforms.

  • ITunes & iMac do not recognize 1st generation ipod shuffle

My 1st generation ipod shuffle does not show up in either the desktop or itunes. It does however light up the orange or green light when connected to the computer.
It also seems to knock out the usb connection that it was plugged into. After I unplug it I try to put the keyboard in the same usb slot that the shuffle was in and it does not work. But it does work in other usb outlets. I reset the PRAM and NVRAM and then the all usb connectors work again.
Also, to add to the confusion I have 2 first generation ipod shuffles. The other one works fine.
I cannot restore the shuffle because I can not see it anywhere.
Is there anything that can be done?

Here in Brazil if the technicians solve the 1418 iPod problem with "magic softwares" provided from Apple just for assistence services, they are charging the iPod users about U$40.
But if the problem is classified as a hardware problem, and if its under warranty, they give you another new or a refurbished (yek!).
If its not under warranty, you can have your iPod and pray for fix...
Is it fair that a problem probably cause by a software provided from the own manufacturer should be solved by Apple's costumers? I dont think so...
Do you any idea about what can we do?

  • Can I update my 3rd generation ipod to ios 7?

  • New itunes can't get my head around it

    Hello.
Recently downloaded the latest version of itunes and I honestly have tried to get my head around it with plenty of good will but it just doesn't work for me. So i was wondering am I the only one or are there others? would love to hear about what you like and what you don't like here is my comments:
    genius playlist:
why can't i see full list of previous songs played? if I would like to hear a specific previous song in the list I cannot just click it
why can't i access song sub-menu? old itunes you could right click on the song and search for the file location for example?
why do I need seperate windows to open when opening specific items such as downloads or genius why can't they just feature in the main screen?
but my biggest gripe with it  is that it just generally feels overcroweded. the previous version was so clear and easy on the eye with enough information to know what was listed but not too much to make you lose focus on what you are after. This one offers so much information on everything that I cannot seem to focus any more (maybe not bright enough )
but seriously as an example of overcrowding, it now lists all the TV series I have previously purchased and removed as already watched. Although no longer on my main hard drive it comes up as available through iclouds. I specifically stored them in a seperate hard drive to not overcrowed my itunes now they are back. and the fact that you can select to only show the non viewed TV episodes doesn't help as it shows series I have bought but haven't downloaded yet .
am I the only one and starting to become a grumpy old man? should I just accept and adapt? looking forward to hear other peoples thoughts

  • My NEW Iphone 4 'restored' to my 3rd generation Ipod touch. How can I get the old settings back?

Please Help! I just got an IPhone 4 today from work and I wanted to 'sync' my IPod touch apps to the Iphone and it 'restored' to my OLD 3G Ipod Touch settings! How can I get it back to what it was when I received it from work? My work email account is completely GONE and it was already all set up when I recieved the phone. I am extremely worried that I won't be able to go back to what it was! PLease please tell me I can restore it back to how it was....with my email account all set up and everything. I would appreciate any help I can get...I just can't believe I did this!!! THANK YOU!

Unless the device was backed up prior to restoring the backup from the iPod Touch, there is nothing to restore.
Just set up the email account again... it's not difficult, but you may need information from your corporate IT dept to set it up.

  • ITunes 7.7 can't detect old 3rd generation iPod

I have an old 15gb 3rd gen iPod -- the kind with the touchwheel, 4 buttons, and dock connector. Up until last week it still worked reliably. Then I updated to iTunes 7.7. Now when I connect my iPod to my Mac it won't show up on my list of devices. Nor does it show up on my desktop (even though I have disk mode enabled). Is this a bug in 7.7? Anybody know any fixes?

Never mind... seems to have fixed itself. Weird.

  • Itunes 8 not compatible with 1st generation ipod shuffle

I have had a **** of a time tonight trying to get my ipod shuffle working with itunes 8 and finally gave up after trying to restore it via itunes 8 which totally screwed it up because it wouldn't finish the restore so I had to unplug the ipod. Got a zillion ipod busy errors when trying to restore. Used disk utility to format it for apple hfs.... still wouldn't restore.... ipod busy b.s. error messages... tried formatting it for fat on itunes 7.7.1 and finally got it so that itunes could get it restored and working. Problem is... now I have to try and switch back to itunes 7.7.1 which means deleting my computer from apple tv and using disk utility to backup my older 7.7.1 over my itunes 8 in order to get back to some kind of workable solution. Plus my itunes 8 library is more up to date than my backup. So that means more messing around. Fortunately I was able to restore most, not all of the files by plugging in my ipod 80gb. For some reason it didn't copy all the new movie files over.
I've had so many problems with compatibility, crashing, locking up etc that it is no longer worth my time to try and use itunes 8.
Not only can't I change album artwork in itunes 8... it basically doesn't want to work my my old ipod shuffle either.
This is one version of itunes that was not tested properly before putting it on the download server.
