Recently Edited Files

Tonight,PSE3 froze up on me requiring a Force Quit on my Mac - a rare but not unknown occurrence. However on checking File / Recently Edited Files when I opened it again, I couldn't find any listing of the files I had been working on in the last week, all the files shown were at least a week old. I haven't lost any files just the record of them being recently edited.
Anyone come across this anomaly ?

It's because the sort order is based on 'date taken', the date and time when the picture was shot (if the camera is correctly set for the time...)
Edit:
There is no way to select pictures based on the last editing time (nothing in the Find menu, either by metadata or history). That information is only stored in Windows explorer.
If you want to keep track of your recently edited pictures, the only workaround I can see is to apply a keyword like 'new edit' each time you edit a picture. I suppose that such info is no longer needed after your editing batch, so you can select all those files and delete the keyword from all of them. The keyword is still available for the next editing batch.
Generally, people interested in seeing the  most recent edits use the editor to see the recent edits. You can set the preference to up to 30 recent files in edit/preference menu, file recording option.

  • How do I clear the recently edited files in the file menu?

How do I clear the recently edited files in the file menu? (ie. cache)

I don't have PSEv.13, but in my current version, and in the two that I had before, the behavior is/was identical.
As far as I know, the only way to purge an entry in the list of recently edited files via the File menu, is to delete the picture file or send it to the recycle bin.
Perhaps someone will come along with additional information.
"The File option dose not have an option for FILE-MORE-PURGE CACHE. as Adobe suggested."
Where is this referenced suggestion?? On-line? In a book or manual?

  • Recently Edited Files not Showing in Organiser PSE11

My recently edited files do not show in the editor.  All the repairs, optimise etc have been done.  Photos have been saved as Jpeg and PSD and the check box to save in Organiser also ticked. Timeline does not show anything saved today and untagged media is not picking up anything.    Please  can someone help.  Many thanks

  • How to remove Recently opened files?

Is there a way to remove Recently opened files (File>Open Recently Edited File)?

Reset the preferences. in PSE version 10 and older quit the editor (quit PSE in PSE 8 and lower on a mac) then restart it while holding down ctrl+alt+shift (command+option+shift on a mac). Keep the keys down till you see a window asking if you want to delete the settings file. You do.
In PSE 11 and 12, go to the editor preferences>general and click this button, then restart the editor:

  • Why do my recently edited RAW files lack sidecars?

I've asked about this recently and now can describe the problem better. My previous question (Aug. 1 "Bridge Thumbnails & Preview no longer indicate edit") received answers suggesting deleting cache, which had no effect on the problem. I've now noticed that those edited RAW files lack sidecar files, although they open normally in RAW, displaying their edited state in both the image and the panels sliders.
    I'm using a MacPro 2 X 2.8 GHz Quad-core Intel Xenon, running version 10.6.8, Photoshop CS6 13.0.5
This problem only affects recently edited RAW files (August 2013), with their thumbnails in Bridge showing the edit symbol (upper right), but  no evidence of any editing. When I open these files in RAW, the image and the panel sliders show all of my edit correctly. Although the edit is displayed,  the sidecar files are missing from the respective RAW file on my HD. Both RW2 and RAF filles are affected. When I convert these files to DNG, the thumbnails in Bridge then correctly show evidence of the edit.
Where are those missing sidecar files?

That's not what I said.  Let's try again:
Now you have to go to each folder in Bridge and go to the Tools menu >Cache > Build and Export Cache to create the missing XMP files.
Note that we're talking about different commands in the Tools menu, different menu items.
Did you restart Bridge after changing the cache preferences and before selecting the command to Build and Export Cache?

  • Where are my edited files located?

I recently needed to make room on my PC so I transferred my entire Pictures folder onto my external hard drive. Apparently any photos I had edited in CS5 then saved in Lightroom were moved and I cannot find where they are saved to locate in Lightroom. When I click on them in Lightroom it just says "This folder cannot be found". Its only for photos edited in both Lightroom and CS5, any that were only in Lightroom can be found on my external hard drive where I backed them up, I'm only looking for files with "edit" in them (e.g. _DSC6181-edit.tif). Any help in finding these files that were apprently moved would be great, thanks!

There are no edited files. Lightroom stores all the adjustments in the catalog. It applies those adjustments to the image whenever you choose that image in Lightroom. Since you moved all of your images to the external hard drive, that is where they are located. And you are going to have to go through the process of linking everything up again.

  • How to Increase the # of Recently Opened Files in DW CS6 ???

Can anyone please give a detailed instruction on how to increase the number of Recently Opened files in Dreamweaver CS6? I have read the forums everywhere and do not see a solution here that works. For me there is no: Menus/MM/File_RecentFiles.htm
I mean I have a "Menus" directory but no "MM" directory inside that... also, if I create one... I still need a sample "File_RecentFiles.htm" to copy. Or maybe someone knows another solution?

I don't have DWCS6, just DWCS4 and DWCC. When I go to Program Files(x86) > Adobe >  Adobe Dreamweaver CC (or Dreamweaver CS4) > configuration > Menus > MM > and then open the file named "File_RecentFiles.htm" at either location, this is the code...

  • Missing Edited Files

Last evening I edited about 30 RAW files and today I can not find the edited files either using Bridge or the basic Windows file structure. Also, a Google desktop came up with nothing. When I now open previously edited files in ACR the previously made edits do not appear.  My system is Windows 7/CS5.
I initially opened the undedited files in ACR, made edits, then opened in CS5 and made final edits. Edited files were saved as jpg.
Also, today in Photoshop CS5 the edited files do not show up when I click "Open Recent." They are simply not there.
As a check, I have made edits today and they do show up, as they should.
    Thanks in advance.

You're saying the JPEGs you saved are just gone from where you thought you saved them?
Photoshop's Save As dialog is notorious for changing the folder to someplace else unexpectedly.  I think I save files in the wrong place with Photoshop more often than with any other app.  You have to select the file type first, THEN the folder to minimize this.
Try looking in the folder from which you opened the files, or any other folders you might have been working in.
Don't trust searches to find your files.  I don't think one has ever been made that's 100% all-seeing.  Google is all about fuzzy logic, and Windows Search is anything but a Search.  I've had good luck with a geeky tool called grepWin finding stuff, but it can take quite a long time to search the entire hard drive.

I edit them in Lightroom. Then the little symbol appears in the bottom of the thumbnail in the film strip at the bottom of the LR screen. Then, a few minutes later, the symbol is gone. I then click on one or more of the thumbnails and the image opens in the main screen. However, all of the sliders on the right are at their defaults, and the image is back in its unedited state. Last night, for a while, the edits reappeared, but tonight they were gone again. I just recently downloaded Camera Raw 8.5. I wonder if that is the problem.
What little symbol?  Do you mean the up-arrow symbol that appears top-right of grid or film strip images?  This indicates that the image has been edited by another program.
Or do you mean the "+/-" symbol that appears bottom right?.  This appears after editing, but if it disappears subsequently without you doing anything, it sounds like something nasty is happening to the catalogue or image xmp file on disk.
Lightroom doesn't use ACR (8.5 or any other version) - it has the same functions built-in.  ACR is used only by Photoshop.  Are you opening the images in ACR in Photoshop?

  • Weirdness editing files in singleuser mode

    Here's an odd one.
We recently lost the root password for one of our boxen (probably a caps-lock incident when changing it or something), so I booted the host in single user mode from Jumpstart (boot net -s), and mounted the disk (c0t0d0s0) on /a
I edited /a/etc/shadow to remove the root password hash, edited /a/etc/vfstab to change the root disk device from /dev/md/dsk/d10 (SDS mirror) to the hardware disk (/dev/dsk/c0t0d0s0) in order to cleanly remirror the changes later on.
Rebooted using the hardware device of c0t0d0s0 as the boot device. Still couldn't get in as root.
Booted again from Jumpstart, only to find the contents of /etc/vfstab in /etc/shadow .
I have looked at the console history, and I'm utterly sure I didn't accidentally save vfstab in shadow.
Anyone seen anything like this before? It's happened to other files too while booted off CD and Jumpstart in previous incidents.

    Hi,
Only weirdness I've encountered while editing files in SingleUser is terminal gets crazy unless I do this first:
    TERM=vt100
    export $TERM
Haven't ever had any system -- from SS1 to E15K -- hammer one file with another different file which I was editing. If that continues, maybe you should open a service call with Sun....?

I am using both PSE 13 and Lightroom 5.  When I use Lightroom as an external editor and save the photo, it shows up in PSE13 as an edited file but does not look any different.  Why doesn't it appear edited?

People who have Photoshop, but don't have Lightroom, need ACR so that they can use Raw files. Without ACR they could do nothing with those (they may also like having ACR so that they can work on other kinds of image using the same kinds of adjustments and techniques, as are used with Raw files).
People who have Lightroom, can get access to Raw files regardless whether ACR is present or not. They can use Lightroom on other kinds of image also, using the same methods. LR can pass images directly into Photoshop without passing via ACR (or else does so transparently, which amounts to substantially the same thing).
ACR does not, strictly speaking, even need to be installed for this external editing to happen. In fact, not even PS needs to be - since a different image editor can be used instead, while still retaining the Adobe Raw conversion etc.
Lightroom "subcontracts out" specialised external tasks, in this workflow, but is still your "main contractor": the image is otherwise located, viewed, managed, adjusted/presented and output entirely using LR.
So IMO we can divide image processing into:
operations that involve pixels and layers and layer masks and adjustment layers etc (of the kind done inside Photoshop)
operations that involve parametric edits (of the kind done in ACR where you are not using a Lightroom based workflow; otherwise, done inside Lightroom)
When PS is called in, that's because those tasks are impossible or unsuitable to do in Lightroom. But those tasks can't be done in ACR either - by definition, since LR and ACR have exactly the same image processing "feature set".
Lightroom is irrelevant to the Bridge + ACR + PS workflow. This workflow requires both your PS and your ACR to be current enough, to support your Raw format etc.
ACR and Bridge are irrelevant to the LR + (image editor) workflow. It is in this case, only LR which needs to be current enough to support your Raw format etc.

  • HT202879 I am stumped - trying to open a recent Pages file but error message says that I need a "newer version" of Pages.  My software updates show that there are no updates available.  I recently updated Pages but it is not consistent.

I am stumped - I am trying to open a recent Pages file (created with a newer software that I thought was correctly installed recently) but error message says that I need a "newer version" of Pages.  My software updates show that there are no updates available. Pages 09 version 4.3 shows as my current version.

You have 2 versions of Pages on your Mac.
Pages 5 is in your Applications folder.
Pages '09/'08 is in your Applications/iWork folder.
You are alternately opening the wrong versions.
Pages '09/'08 can not open Pages 5 files and you will get the warning that you need a newer version.
Pages 5/5.01 can not open Pages 5.1 files and you will get the warning that you need a newer version.
Pages 5.1 sometimes can not open its own files and you will get the warning that you need a newer version.
Pages 5 can open Pages '09 files but may damage/alter them. It can not open Pages '08 files at all.
Once opened and saved in Pages 5 the Pages '09 files can not be opened in Pages '09.
Anything that is saved to iCloud is also converted to Pages 5 files.
All Pages files no matter what version and incompatibility have the same extension .pages.
Pages 5 files are now only compatible with themselves on a very restricted set of hardware, software and Operating Systems and will not transfer correctly on any other server software than iCloud.
Apple has not only managed to confuse all its users, but also itself.
Note: Apple has removed over 95 features from Pages 5 and added many bugs:

Archive/trash Pages 5, after exporting all Pages 5 files to Pages '09 or Word .docx, and rate/review it in the App Store, then get back to work.

Is there a way to edit files in iTunes? What I would like to do, in one or two cases, is keep half a file.

That's helpful, thanks. Is there a way of getting rid of the unwanted portion, so as to save memory?

  • Boot Camp And Viewing\Editing Files From Windows

I just ordered Leopard and I'm going to putting it on my 20 Imac next weekend. My plans are to install Windows Vista home premium through boot camp. Is there a way to access files from Windows on Leopard and vice-versa? I have MS Office for Mac and Windows and I do photo editing and it would be nice to access and edit files as needed whatever OS I'm without having to reboot. Some kind of third party software available for this? Parallels is OUT OF THE QUESTION for me. I tried it a few months ago and it was nothing but a nightmare. Left me with a really bad taste for it.
    Thanks.

    Thanks Kappy,
I did a quick look at MacDrive and looks like what I was wanting. Will download the trial after my transition. Another question: When I install and setup Boot Camp will there be an option to format the partition in NTFS or does it do it by default?
Thanks again for the tip on MacDrive. I've only had this Mac for about 6 months and just learning what is probably old news to you.
